Teyana Taylor celebrates first Grammy nomination after 20 years

American singer, songwriter and actress Teyana Taylor has expressed gratitude and reflected on her two-decade journey to her first GRAMMY nomination.

In an emotional post on Instagram, Taylor shared that she signed her first record deal on November 7th, nearly 20 years prior and has now received her first GRAMMY nomination on the same date in 2025.

Taylor described the journey as one of “highs, heartbreaks, reinvention, revelation” and thanked her support system, including her family, team, and label, for standing by her through the ups and downs.

Taylor wrote: “Nearly twenty years ago on November 7th I signed my very first record deal. And on November 7th, 2025… God said “remember when I told you the weight/wait wasn’t punishment? I told you it was preparation for what I already had written for you?? Baby girl, it’s your time.”

“Two decades of chapters —highs, heartbreaks, reinvention, revelation, rooms I prayed to enter, rooms I had to walk away from, and rooms I had to build myself. Every tear. Every closed door. Every whispered prayer at 3am in the studio. Every moment I wondered if what I carried would ever be seen…It all mattered.

“To finally receive my first GRAMMY nomination after 20 yearsssssss whew, my heart can barely hold the gratitude. To be seen this way. To be acknowledged for something I created from pure truth and obedience…It feels like God saying, “I never forgot you.”

“To my family, my team, my label, my day-one supporters & my prayer warriors..you held space for me when I couldn’t hold space for myself. You believed in me when I was tired…when I was empty… when I was ready to let music go. You gently guided me back to my gift”.

She also acknowledged the talented women who contributed to her project, Escape Room, and credited God for guiding her through the process.

Teyana Taylor to undergo emergency vocal surgery

American singer and actress Teyana Taylor has announced that she’d be taking a break for vocal surgery after being diagnosed with a noncancerous growth on her vocal cords.

Speaking on it via her Instagram story, she said the growth has been affecting her voice and causing discomfort.

According to her, it’s treatable but needs time to heal, forcing her to step back from some upcoming appearances, including a podcast taping with Michelle Obama at Martha’s Vineyard.

Teyana expresses her disappointment but reassures fans that her new project, “The Escape Room,” will still be released on August 22.

She wrote, “I’ve been quietly dealing with some vocal challenges for a while now, and after a lot of back and forth with my doctors, I’ve been told I need vocal surgery immediately. They found a noncancerous growth on one of my cords that’s been messing with my voice and causing real discomfort.

“Thankfully, we caught it & it’s treatable-but it does mean I need to pause and give myself time to fully heal. Because of this, I have to step back from some upcoming appearances, including Mrs. Obama’s podcast taping at Martha’s Vineyard this weekend, and that honestly breaks my heart.

“I don’t take lightly what it means to show up for y’all. I’ve poured so much of myself into this next chapter-especially the escape room, which is still dropping August 22! So no worries there it’s the most personal body of work I’ve ever created. And the timing… it’s not lost on me. Just as I was getting ready to finally share this with you, life handed me my own unexpected “escape room”-one I didn’t ask for, but one I now have to find my way out of with patience, rest, and faith. This moment hurts.

“I wanted to give you everything, the full vision. But please know I put my whole heart into this music, this film, this rollout. And when I return, it’ll be with even more fire, more purpose, and the best version of me. Thank you for rocking with me through it all. For the grace, the love, and the space to heal. I can’t wait to be on the other side of this stronger, softer, and singing again”.
