    TGI gets kudos for intervention in nation’s industial growth

    Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC),Aisha Rimi, has commended Tropical General Investment (TGI) Group for its role in Nigeria’s industrial growth and sustainability.

    During her tour of TGI’s WACOT Rice Argungu Limited in Kebbi State and WACUB and WASIL factories in Sagamu, Ogun State, Rimi lauded the company’s efforts in food production, enhancing food security, and creating jobs.

    Accompanied by Attahiru Maccido, chief of staff to Kebbi State Governor, Rimi was received by TGI’s senior management, including Sadiq Kassim, director of Corporate Affairs; Jayant Chandrashekar, chief Operating officer of WACOT Rice; Umar Muhammed, head of Human Resources and Administration at WACOT Rice;

    Others are Rafiat Gawat, head of Corporate Communications; Habiba Suleiman, head of trategic Partnerships; Aliyu Suwaid, Strategy and Business Development manager; and Oluwadamilola Olorungbade, Corporate Strategy and Business Development officer.

    The team briefed her on WACOT Rice’s advanced operations and sustainable practice.

    “The adoption of sustainable rice production methods, which reduce reliance on external energy and mitigate carbon emissions, is exemplary,” said Rimi. “WACOT Rice’s efforts are a step towards boosting Nigeria’s rice production and ensuring food security.”

    In Sagamu, Rimi, with Dr. Olu Aikulola, permanent secretary in Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment, was introduced to innovative capabilities of WACUB and WASIL. They were welcomed by Kassim Chakrabarti, managing director of WASIL, and Alvic Yap, director of Manufacturing and Projects at TGI.

    Rimi emphasised the commission’s role in fostering investments in Nigeria. “A robust investment promotion agency is crucial for attracting investment. TGI Group’s dedication to industrial growth and sustainability sets a benchmark for other investors,” she said. “We at NIPC are committed to supporting such efforts and ensuring a conducive environment for their success.”

    ‘‘TGI is committed to sustainability, which is a core element of our HR strategy as well’’, said Akinpelu.

    ‘‘Our teams work on projects, from afforestation and water management to energy-saving initiatives. TGI Group is also growing in digital transformation. We employ world-class solutions to overhaul our processes’’, Akinpelu explained.

    Highlighting TGI’s approach, Akinpelu showcased the group’s efforts in generating renewable energy. ‘‘Our 250,000 metric tonnes rice plant in Argungu, Kebbi State, operates without fossil fuels. Also, we recycle rice husks to generate power. By 2025, more factories will tow the same line, thereby reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner air’’.
    Some panellists; Olas unkanmi Adenuga, managing director of Workforce Nigeria; Afiz Oluwatoyin, director general of Industrial Training Fund (ITF); Vanessa Phala, director of International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Abuja; Eugene Itua, managing director of Natural Eco Capita; and Emmanuel Okeleji, chief executive officer of Seamless HR, stressed the role of green and digital jobs in economic development.
    TGI Group is in the forefront of this movement, demonstrating that economic growth can go hand-in-hand with environmental stewardship and digital innovation.

    TGI seals deal with women’s club to tackle hunger

    Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group yesterday said it entered a “strategic collaboration” with Cosmopolitan Women’s Club (CWC) to reduce hunger.

    It noted in a statement the partnership, aimed at tackling hunger and fostering entrepreneurship, is part of its corporate responsibility.

    The group said the deal would be executed through its foundation, TGI Cares, adding it would support CWC’s outreach through food donations.

    According to the statement, Rafiat Gawat, head of Corporate Communication at TGI Group,  hinted this at the investiture of Dame Marie Fatayi-Williams as president of CWC, on April 28, at Metropolitan Club, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    She said: “As part of our contribution to CWC’s impactful work, we announce our monthly donation of food items from to their food bank project, through TGI Cares Foundation.

    “This gesture reflects the alignment between our foundation’s goals and CWC’s humanitarian mission.”

    Gawat noted TGI Group’s business values, saying: “Food is at the heart of our portfolio, and foundation, TGI Cares is dedicated to addressing existential and situational hunger while promoting empowerment.”

    She emphasised the organisation’s global reach, showcasing its extensive food product line, including Big Bull Rice, Terra Seasoning Cubes, and Golden Terra Soya Oil.

    Fatayi-Williams hailed the partnership, saying: “We are delighted to collaborate with TGI Group on this mission to provide hope. The partnership exemplifies a shared commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment. “
