ADC candidate makes case for people-centred leadership

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has emphasised the need for people-centred leadership as the foundation of good governance ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State.

The party’s governorship candidate, Mr John Chuma Nwosu (JCN), has been delivering this message directly to the grassroots through a door-to-door campaign that spans communities, markets, and villages across the state.

During his engagements, Nwosu consistently highlights transparency, accountability, and inclusion as the pillars of leadership that serve the people, urging voters to demand leaders who listen to and act in their best interests.

From the bustling streets of Onitsha to the neighbourhoods of Nnewi, Awka, Ekwulobia, and Ihiala, Nwosu’s message has continued to resonate with ordinary citizens — traders, artisans, students, and transport workers — who say they identify with his calm, approachable style.

Observers note that while the ADC may not yet be one of the dominant political forces in Anambra, Nwosu’s grassroots-driven approach has given the party a growing presence and credibility among everyday voters.

His Chief of Staff and former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ben Chucks Nwosu, said the ADC candidate’s strategy of direct engagement and consistent community visits had made him “the candidate of the streets.”

“His calm but consistent engagements with the people and visible presence across communities have made him stand out,” Ben Chucks Nwosu said. “He’s not just campaigning; he’s connecting.”

A youth leader in Ogbaru echoed the sentiment, describing Nwosu as a relatable and accessible candidate.

“We see JCN not just as a politician, but as one of us — sincere, humble, and focused on the people,” he said.

As the election draws nearer, Nwosu’s campaign continues to stress that true leadership must be people-centred — focused on service, integrity, and the everyday welfare of citizens. “Our message is simple,” Nwosu often tells supporters. “Leadership must return to the people. Governance should be about empathy, not entitlement.”

Though still building its structure across the state, the ADC says its campaign reflects a movement rooted in grassroots participation and citizen-driven change, which it believes will redefine politics in Anambra.

Kaduna ADC warns ex-governor against alleged plot to hijack party

The local chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State has kicked against what it called described clandestine attempts by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to infiltrate and destabilise the party.

ADC leaders in the state told reporters at a news conference that El-Rufai, who has never formally registered with the ADC, was working underground to hijack the ADC for personal ambitions.

They accused the former governor of using remnants of his old political structure in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to undermine the ADC.

The accusation came on a day a group accused the ADC National Chairman, David Mark and others of using the party’s platform to gain political relevance.

Reading a prepared text  yesterday, Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, said that the ADC would not be a “willing tool in the hands of any individual,” stressing that the party remains focused on building a credible, people-oriented alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said: “We are open to all Nigerians who believe in our values. But we will not allow our party to be turned into a political vehicle for anyone’s personal project. El-Rufai’s subversive moves are unacceptable and will be strongly resisted.”

Mustapha noted that while the party encourages healthy competition and legitimate aspirations, it would not condone any behaviour reminiscent of the “destructive tendencies of the old parties” that have stifled Nigeria’s development.

The party leaders accused El-Rufai of attempting to create a faction within the ADC through “acts of subterfuge and alignment with rival political interests,” warning that such actions were a direct threat to the unity and internal democracy of the party.

They called on the former governor to immediately desist from any activity capable of undermining the integrity of the ADC, urging him instead to respect the rules of engagement and allow due process to prevail.

Reaffirming their support for the Senator David Mark-led executive, the party restated its commitment to mobilising the people for a just and progressive political future, vowing not to be distracted or derailed from its mission.

Also yesterday, the political group – Benue Concerned Democrats (BCD), condenmed the hijacking of the ADC by Mark and others under the guise of a purported “Coalition for 2027”.

In a statement issued in Abuja yesterday by its Convener Idoha Audu Anuga, the BCD accused the one-time Senate President and his allies of attempting to manipulate the ADC to return to political relevance in a scathing

Condemning what he termed “recycled opportunism” masquerading as leadership, Anuga noted that Mark’s return to politics through the ADC under a new coalition is a dangerous attempt to relaunch what he described as a failed and authoritarian political playbook.

The statement reads:  “Nigerians must not forget who David Mark truly is. He is no democrat. His anti-democratic credentials are etched in history, beginning with his shadowy support for the discredited Association for Better Nigeria (ABN).

“We – the Benue Concerned Democrats – reject David Mark’s attempted reincarnation in whatever form. Nigerians deserve a clean break from yesterday’s men. David Mark represents the rot of the past, not the hope of the future.”

The party notes that President Buhari will be remembered for his indelible imprints on Nigeria’s political history as an elder-statesman and above all, as a great patriot.

In a statement yesterday by ADC and Opposition Coalition spokesperson, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, on Sunday, the party stated that the former military ruler and president was a towering figure who typifies humility, integrity and zero tolerance for corruption.

“The party prays for strength for his loved ones and, Nigerians at this moment of grief, and that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings and grant him Aljana’ah firdaus,” it said.

Stop deceiving Nigerians, Bauchi man tells ADC leaders

A northern youth leader and staunch supporter of President Bola Tinubu, Khamis Darazo, has accused leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of deceiving poor Nigerians by posing as their champions without any meaningful impact to show.

Speaking to journalists in Bauchi, Darazo said after critically evaluating the contributions of opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai in the areas of education and poverty alleviation, it became clear to him that none of them could match President Tinubu’s performance.

Citing the Rochas Foundation — where thousands of underprivileged children reportedly receive free education — Darazo challenged ADC leaders to show similar gestures of compassion in their respective constituencies.

“They claim to have formed a coalition to defend the poor,” he said. “I’m placing ₦100,000 on the table for anyone who can present just one photo of a school built by any of them where poor children are educated free of charge, the way Rochas did across the country.”

He urged Nigerians to stop falling for ’empty political promises’ and instead interrogate the true motives of these politicians.

“If El-Rufai hadn’t fallen out with President Tinubu, would he even be talking about any coalition? It’s all self-interest,” he added.

Darazo warned that the current wave of opposition politics could end up as a repeat of 2015, calling on Nigerians to stay focused and allow President Tinubu to continue what he described as the “good work” already underway.
