     Experts discuss sustainability development

    The eighth Sustainability Table Series (STS) is to address policy-related issues crucial to sustainable development, including advocating fiscal policies to encourage businesses to adopt circular economy principles.

      Holding on Thursday in Lagos, it will parade policymakers, entrepreneurs, and sustainability experts.

    This year’s theme: “Navigating Challenges, Leveraging Opportunities in a Reforming Economy to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” underscores the need for collaborative solutions to address Africa’s sustainability challenges, while creating pathways for sustainable economic growth, decarbonisation, and climate resilience.

    Organised by Avant-garde Sustainability Foundation, STS 2024 will discuss practical approaches to achieving UN’s SDGs. The series has become a leading platform for fostering cross-sector partnerships and driving impactful initiatives to address sustainable development’s social, environmental, and economic dimensions.

    Expected are Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Frank Eggmann, consul general of Switzerland in Lagos;  Dr Oreoluwa Finnih, special adviser to Sanwo-Olu on Sustainable Development Goals; Mohamad Darwish, chief executive officer of IHS (Nigeria); and Olufolake Abdulrazaq, Kwara State governor’s wife.

    Joining them are Etemore Glover, chief executive officer of Impact Investors Foundation; Senator Yunus Akintunde, chair of Senate Committee on Environment; and Ayaan Adam, senior director at Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and  chief executive officer of AFC’s wholly owned subsidiary, AFC Capital Partners.

    Convener, Temilade Denton, said: “As we face challenges of economic growth, social responsibility, and environmental preservation, we need a bold approach and action to chart a sustainable future”.

    STS 2024 offers an opportunity for changemakers to share knowledge, and create solutions that drive progress and safeguard future of our communities and planet.

    This year’s STS will feature launch of 2023 Sustainability Table Discourse Series Monograph: “MobiliSing Finance for Sustainable Development Goals: The Significance of Expanding Green Finance in Times of a Global Crisis.”

    This monograph captures insights, best practices, and actionable strategies discussed in previous sessions of the Sustainability Table Discourse Series. It delves into the critical role of green finance in achieving the SDGs, particularly in the context of global economic uncertainties. By exploring innovative financing mechanisms, case studies, and policy recommendations, the monograph serves as a valuable resource for stakeholders, policymakers, and organizations committed to advancing sustainable development efforts.
