    JUST IN: Two drown, many injured in Third Mainland auto crash

    Two passengers have reportedly drowned after they fell into the lagoon from a commercial bus on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.

    Other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries from the incident, The Nation learnt.

    The crash occurred on Eid-el-fitri when Muslims are celebrating the end of Ramadan.

    The Nation learnt that the driver of the 20-seater bus with number plate FKJ 872 YA was trying to avert plunging the vehicle into lagoon when the passengers fell off.

    Southwest Coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Ibrahim Farinloye.confirmed the incident. 

    He said a rescue team has commenced search-and-rescue operations.

    Potholes endanger motorists on Third Mainland Bridge

    Barely four months after the last repairs carried out by the Lagos State Government on some of its failed sections, potholes are the latest menace on the Third Mainland Bridge.

    The Nation reports that the potholes are prominent on the Obalende to Adekunle stretch of the bridge and while approaching the bridge from Ebute Meta.

    The about 11.8km facility, owned by the Federal Government, starts from the Oworonshoki end of the Mainland and ends at the Adeniji Adele Interchange on Lagos Island.

    In April, Lagos State diverted traffic from one lane to another at several failed asphaltic sections, but more potholes have since sprung up with motorists fearing for their safety while using the bridge.
