Lagos prince writes CP over threat to life

A Lagos Prince, Yusuf Olarinde, has petitioned the Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayode, over alleged threat to his life by persons described as professional litigants, whom  he said, were bent on dispossessing him of his house built on their family land and other property valued at over N25 million at Oguntedo Village, Satetllite Town.

The petitioner, through his lawyer,  Femi Akinyemi of Falana and Falana Chamber, alleged that the professional litigants conspired with and made CSP Chike Otti, the former D.P.O of Satellite Town Police Station, Superintendent Edo of the Anti-Robbery Unit, Area E Police Command, Festac Town, and ASP Ogbeshigidi Ayodele of the defunct Federal SARS tools for oppressing and intimidating him and his family over claims to the land.

The petition stated that “ there was a tussle over the land at Oguntedo Village, Satetllite Town,  Lagos and that judgment was entered by the court as far back as 1989, where it was held that the disputed land is a family land and belongs to our client – Olarinde family. The judgment was enforced as both Form O and a warrant of possession were issued and executed in favour of our client and his family.”

“It is on this same land that our client has his properties to wit: a warehouse, blocks of shops, and a two-storey buliding where he resides with his family and tenants.”

Prince Olarinde, through his counsel, Akinyemi urged CP Fayode to help him get rid of the hoodlums, armed thugs, and any other persons invading his residence and unlawfully impeding him from entering and using his estates.

They also requested CP Fayode to help recover and restore all that has been stolen from Prince Olarinde, including the accumulated sum of  N26 million extorted from him and his vehicles stolen allegedly by ASP Ogbeshigidi Ayodele, Supo Edo, and CSP Chike Oti.

They also urged him to investigate a correspondent of a  Lagos television station (names withheld) to determine the ownership of the vandalised vehicles displayed and reported by her, and to prosecute any erring person(s) and reprimand the police officers for defying the judgment of the High Court and for other professional malpractice.

Akinyemi stated that on many occasions, his client was invited and he made statements regarding the said land where he resides, and that due to the incessant harassment and intimidation of his client, he instituted a Fundamental Human Rights Application, which is pending before the High Court of Lagos State, Ikeja Division.

“Notwithstanding the pending suit instituted against CSP Chike Oti and his cohort, CSP Chike Oti, on Saturday, 26th October 2019, at about 3 am, led men from Satelite Town Pokce Station and men of the defunct Federal SARS to assail our client at his residence at Oguntedo Village, Satellite Town, Lagos.

“They broke into his residence and wilfully stole his valuables: two bags, one containing several vital documents belonging to our client and the other containing tne sum of N867,000.00, including his two mobile phones.

“Shortly after the aforementioned attack, our client authorized a legal practitioner to petition the office of the Chairman of the Police Service Commission in respect of the wrongful conduct of CSP Chike Oti and his co-travellers.

“Consequent upon the complaint letter, our client was invited by Supo Shola and Inspector Philip Diugu of the X-Squad, a police section attached to the office of the DCP SCID Panti, Lagos. Our Client briefed us that he honoured the invitation and detailed the X Squad police officers in his written statement about the whole incident, while CSP Chike Oti was equally summoned for necessary interrogations.

“However, CSP Chike Oti, instead of cooperating, further arranged with his sponsors (the professional litigants) to dispossess our client of his residence. They sponsored some thugs (names withheld) who on 18th July 2020 assailed our client at his residence shooting with their guns, brandishing machetes damaging his vehicles and attempting to murderhim, but he narrowly escaped death.

“After our client’s escape, he noticed the arrival of some police officers and approached them to complain about the prevailing attack. To our client’s chagrin, rather than responding to his lethal situation, CSP Chike Oti, for his selfish interest and premeditated plans to cover up his prior atrocities committed against our client, which were under investigation at the X-Squad SCID Panti, Lagos, arrested our client.

“Our client was eventually transferred to the office of the former Commissioner of Police, “Rtd AIG Hakeem Odumosu,” O/C Kehinde, and ASP Ogbeshigidi Ayodele of the defunct Federal SARS, where they used their privileged police positions to fabricate criminal charges of murder against our client and other prominent family members, resulting in our client’s remand in custody.

“Remarkably, during our client’s remand, ASP Ogbeshidi Ayodele, CSP Chike Oti, and Supol Edo of Festac “Area E” Police Command anti-robbery section raided our client’s house and apartments and willfully stole his three vehicles: a Volkswagen Touareg Jeep with registration number BDG 386 FB, an unregistered fairly used 2014 Ford Edge jeep (blue colour, Chassis 2FMDK3JC6EBB12227), and a Toyota bus.”

He stated that the correspondent of a Lagos television station reversely misled the public by falsely reporting on the vandalisation and ownership of the aforementioned vehicles belonging to our client Lateef Olarinde” as vehicles belonging to alleged victims of our client and his family.

“It is significant that  CSP Chike, Supol Edo and ASP Ogbeshoigidi Ayodele, for greed and personal aggrandizement, without a court aided and abetted the aforementioned hoodlums (names withheld) adding that  they criminally ejected his family and some of his tenants, stealing over N25,000,000.00 worth of property belonging to our client and his family.”

“The hoodlums, formed a criminal gang to invade their client’s house and extort about N26,000,000.00 from their client’s estate, including blocks of shops. “

He claimed that they pulled down and stole the entrance and exit gates of his residence, maliciously damaging and demolishing parts of our client’s estate.  The petitioner said they  also raided our client’s warehouse.

“After our client’s release from remand custody, he approached us indignantly and instructed us to request the sum of N867,000 00, including his mobile phones, which were carted away on 26th October 2019 by the policemen led by CSP Chike Oti.

“We wrote and addressed a letter to the DCP SCID Panti, Lagos accordingly. However, only the two mobile phones and the sum of N568,000.00 were released to our client out of the total sum of N867,000 00 and other valuables that were carted away by the police

“Our client also lamented how the aforementioned hoodlums and thugs still invaded his estates, threatened his life, and impeded him from entering and using his properties”, the petition stated.

Davido in multiple claims of cyber-bullying, threat to life

American-Nigerian music star David Adeleke aka Davido is currently battling a multiplicity of claims bordering on cyber-bullying and threat to life.

At least three Nigerians including Sophie Momodu, the mother of Davido’s first child and daughter, have made official complaints of cyberbullying and threat to life against the singer. Others, who have made the same claims are award-winning songstress Tiwa Savage and Nigerian sports topshot, Amaju Pinnick.

In the last quarter of 2023, Pinnick had alleged that Davido refused to show up at a concert which he had been fully paid for by Brown Hill investment. The issue degenerated into an online back and forth with Davido calling out Pinnick and making counter-claims.

Following the ugly incident, Pinnick petitioned the police against Davido for alleged criminal defamation of character and cyberbullying.

The Nigeria Police Force Panti Division was reported to have sent a letter inviting the musician for a response regarding the criminal defamation of character and cyberbullying but he’s yet to respond, hence, Pinnick has resorted to the court to settle their differences.

In the early days of 2024, the media went on a frenzy after Tiwa Savage filed a petition against Davido, over an alleged threat to her life.

In the petition addressed to Lagos State Commissioner of Police Fayoade Adegoke, Savage claimed that Davido threatened her in response to a social media post she made which featured one of Davido’s babymama, Sophie Momodu.

Tiwa recounts Davido’s messages warning her and alleging disrespectful behaviour. She emphasised their past friendship, including support during his challenges. Tiwa concludes by stating her concerns of online and offline harassment and holds Davido responsible for any harm to her or her family.

Also on the list of individuals that have filed complaints against Davido is the mother of one of his four children, Sophie Momodu.

Shortly after Tiwa Savage’s official complaint to the police, Sophia Momodu instructed her lawyers to write an official complaint against the father of four, accusing him of cyberbullying, harassment, and threats to her life.

Through her legal representatives, Momodu issued a cease and desist order against Davido, dated January 10, 2024. The document outlines allegations of cyberbullying, harassment, and threats, asserting that the singer paid blogs to disseminate false statements about her.

31-year-old Davido, a Grammy nominee, who earnestly seeks to win a Grammy in February 2024, is being represented in the court by Mr. Norris Quakers (SAN).

  • Ogun APC spokesperson petitions IGP over threat to life

The Publicity Secretary for Ogun State Executive Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tunde Oladunjoye has petitioned the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu over the growing insecurity in Ogun State and threat to his life. Oladunjoye said the recent threat messages received by him and political violence targeted at APC members in the state calls for concern and investigation. He also said the Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun should be held liable if anything happens to him.

This is contained in a petition dated 23rd January, 2019 titled; ‘Growing insecurity   in   Ogun   State   and   threat   to   my   life:   a request for police protection and investigation.’ The petition reads: “You will recall that recently, precisely, December 19, 2018, I was appointed as Publicity Secretary for Ogun State Executive Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC). You will further recall that due to growing incidences of political violence in Ogun State, our party, APC, demanded that the Inspector General of Police should set up an independent panel to investigate increasing political violence in our once peaceful state.

“We continue to receive reports of violent attacks against members of our party in different parts of the state, our campaign materials and planned attacks against leaders of our party. I also have information to the effect that I am one of the prime targets to be mowed down, for reasons I am yet to know.”

Giving details of some of the threat messages received, Oladunjoye said: “At exactly 07.31 PM, 13.01.2019) I received a phone call from an MTN line.   The caller speaking in Yoruba language, Identified himself as “Segun”. He warned me seriously that I have been marked down for attack between “today and Sunday”, and begged me not to take his information with levity: “e da movement yin ru mo won lo ju, e ma fi oro yii sere o, ma tun peyin pada (confuse them with your movement, don’t joke with this information, I will still call you).

For those who   intend to harm   our body, or   kill us, let   them   be told  that   our soul  is definitely beyond their reach.”

  • Senate President alleges threat to life

Senate President Bukola Saraki is alleging threat to his life and those of his family in Ilorin, Kwara State.

He accused thugs allegedly sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the police as the brains behind the alleged move to eliminate him and his family.

Addressing reporters in Abuja yesterday, Saraki  who doubles as  the Director General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation, claimed that on Thursday, APC thugs “shielded by policemen went to my family quarters in Agbaji in Ilorin and vandalized houses, shops and inflicted wounds with matchetes  on three people.”

He said: ”All these destructions took place in the presence of policemen who came with them but watched without any care, as the APC thugs and supporters unleashed violence on our people.

“For me, personally, I believe the decision to attack people and properties in my family ancestral compound is a direct affront and attack on my person.

“And whatever signal these APC elements with support from the police believe they are sending is definitely sinister, uncivilized and unfortunate.”

The Senate President said the police continued to show undisguised hostility towards him and his supporters in the state.

The former Kwara State governor said reports of the attacks were filed in relevant police stations in Ilorin, but expressed doubts that anything tangible and constructive would come out of the reports.

He stated further that as part of the plot, the police, under the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, on Thursday, commenced the transfer of Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) out of Kwara State.

Saraki called on Nigerians and the entire world to hold the IGP responsible should anything untoward happen to him and members of his family.

“While the police are free to take decisions on the deployment of their personnel, we found the postings in Kwara State strange and more than a mere coincidence,” he said.

“It should also be noted that IGP has posted three different Commissioners of Police to Kwara State in the last six months. In fact, the previous and current Commissioner of Police in the state got strict instructions from the IGP not to relate or engage with the Senate President”, Saraki added.

According to him, the usual practice has been that the Commissioner of Police personally ensures the security of the Senate President whenever he visits his home state.

He said all his predecessors in office were accorded that security cover whenever they visited their home states and that he also enjoyed it in his first year in office from 2015 to 2016.

Saraki expressed apprehension over his personal safety as the ward to ward electioneering is about to begin across the state.

He said: “We need to make it clear to the entire world that now that ward to ward campaign is about to begin in the state and I am set to participate in that grassroots campaign, as I have always done, nobody is sure what instructions Mr. Idris has given to the police command in the state.

“Thus, the entire world should hold the IGP responsible if anything untoward happens to members of my family and myself”.

  • Ifite Oraifite union members petition IGP over threat to life

Members of the Ifite Oraifite Progressive Union (IOPU) Lagos chapter have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP )Ibrahim Idris over alleged threat to their lives.

They include rights activist/social commentator Comrade Bonny Okonkwo, Chief Chuks Okonkwo, Elder sam Ajuluchukwu, Jerry Okwuosa, and Mr Ebele Obinna.

In the petition signed by their lawyer Bartholomew Ajagbo, they urged the IGP to investigate three members of their community who threatened their lives.

They also accused the suspects of criminal trespass, malicious damage of property, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

According to them, the three suspects engaged in unlawful assembly, gangsterism, criminal terrorism, unlawful harassment and intimidation.

The union members said the suspects unlawfully used the Police, with the backing of a powerful Anambra politician and oil magnate, to terrorise them.

The members said their lives were seriously being threatened by the persons who allegedly broke into the union’s property at Irede Beach, Teddi Village, opposite Trade Fair, Lagos State.

“They illegally broke the gate of the property and started having unlawful assembly, terrorising members of the public, including our clients,” the petition reads.

Okonkwo, who is the union’s immediate past chairman and its board of trustees member, complained about how those he described as rogues boasted that no policeman could arrest them.

“True to their words, when policemen from Alagbon went to arrest them, they resisted. Till this moment, the Alagbon officers have not done anything to bring them to book, meaning that they can carry out their threats to kill and nothing will happen.

“It is a mystery that the Alagbon policemen could not carry out the instructions of the IGP to arrest the culprits.

“I am appealing to President Buhari and the IGP to use their good offices to find out why Alagbon police disobeyed constitutional orders,” he told our correspondent.

The union members also accused the suspects of brandishing dangerous weapons and making anonymous threat calls to them.

They said the suspects boasted that they would use their financial powers and Police connections to frustrate the case if reported at any police formation.

“It is against this development that we implore you sir to use your good offices to order discreet investigation into our client’s complaint in the interest of justice.

“We appeal and urge you to bring the criminal perpetrators/criminal terrorists and disgruntled elements to book in line with your current drive to rid the society of criminal elements,” the lawyer wrote.

  • Amosun’s ex – campaign director, Mustapha, alleges threat to life

•Petitions Police, DSS •Abiodun to Gov: Imbibe spirit of sportsmanship

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), in Ogun State, Chief Olabode Mustapha, has dispatched a petition to the police and the Directorate of State Security (DSS), alleging threat to his life by unknown persons for supporting the party’s Governorship candidate for 2019 general elections, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

Mustapha, former Director General (DG), Sen. Ibikunle Amosun Campaign Organisation (SIACO) for a second term, said in separate petitions to the state director of DSS and the Commissioner of Police, that the alleged threats to his life followed his recent remarks in which he called for the liberation of the state from tyranny, and support for the emergence of the Abiodun as the next governor of the state.

He spoke as the media team of Abiodun Campaign Organisation (ACO)  urged Amosun to allow the supremacy of the party to prevail on the nomination of  Dapo Abiodun as the APC governorship candidate.

Mustapha in his October 19, 2018 petition said the threats came via “phone calls and visits to my private home and office” by unknown people.

He pleaded with the police to urgently fish out the brains behind the threats and save him from elimination before it is too late.

He said:”Trouble started shortly on Sunday, 14th October 2018 after I made the short remarks where I expressed my support for Prince Abiodun and representatives of invited media organizations [electronics and print] that were in attendance carried the report in their publications the following day on Monday, 15th October 2018.

“It is evident in my speech in Iperu that I am one of the main backers/supporters of Prince Dapo Abiodun who the APC National Working Committee has confirmed as party’s governorship candidate in Ogun State.

“As a law abiding citizen of Nigeria and a staunch member of the APC in Ogun State, I am entitled to express my freedom of association and expression as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.

“I have come under scathing attacks by unknown persons who have been doing the bid of their paymasters and have resorted to threatening my life hurling verbal abuses at my humble self.

“I am therefore calling on your good office to quickly wade into the matter and unearth the perpetrators of these dastardly act and also ensure the safety of my life and that of my household members.”

ACO to Amosun : Imbibe spirit of sportsmanship, embrace Abiodun

Abiodun’s  media team also advised Amosun to face the reality that his preferred man, Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade, has  lost the party’s ticket, and join hands with Abiodun to serve the larger interest of the party and the people of the  state.

It said: “We have again received the news credited to the Governor of Ogun State, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun where he vows that he has not accepted Prince Dapo Abiodun as the winner of the APC gubernatorial primary.

“It is no more news to the good people of Ogun State that Abiodun is the APC gubernatorial candidate in the State having polled the highest number of votes in a freely and fairly contested direct primary election as announced by the Electoral Panel sent in by the National Working Committee of the party.

“The committee was led by Mr Muhammed Indabawa, a retired Commissioner of Police with a distinguished record of service.

“With the general elections fast approaching, the governor has failed to unite the party in preparation for the huge task ahead.

“This is because his preferred successor lost the party’s ticket. The spirit of sportsmanship and party politics demands that losers accept their losses and join hands with the winner to serve the larger interest of the party and the society.

“There have been efforts on the part of state and national leaders of the party to forge a common front in preparation for the victory of the party at the general elections but the governor has consistently made attempts to frustrate the reconciliatory efforts of the party leaders because he wants to install his successor by all means.

“It is on record that national leaders of the party including President Muhammadu Buhari, have convened series of meetings to appease the governor to move on and accept the rightful winner of the party’s ticket.

“The governor in his own volition and wishes refuses to yield to the party’s directives to accept the decision of the NWC in line with the constitution of the party, APC.

“We cannot turn down the people’s will having elected Dapo Abiodun as their flag bearer and it is time we move on in preaching the gospel of Abiodun to the good people of Ogun State who have all been yearning to see him in the exalted seat.

“Abiodun as an entrepreneur who has provided over 10,000 direct and 250,000 indirect jobs to the people has become the toast of many residents of Ogun State and they can’t wait to have him as their next governor.”

  • EFCC key investigator petitions IG over threat to life

EFCC key investigator petitions IG over threat to life

A key investigator of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), Mr. Abubakar Aliyu Madaki has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris over threat to his life by a businessman, Alh. Abdulhamid Mahmud Zari.

He said since Zari was arrested by the EFCC on March 2017, he has been under intimidation and threat to life.

Madaki, who raised the alarm in a petition through his counsel, M.A. Mahmud (SAN) said he is in danger because the businessman alleged that he was the brain behind his invitation and investigation by EFCC.

But Zari through his counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome(SAN) said he was detained by the EFCC beyond the constitutionally guaranteed period.

He said he had already sued the EFCC and Madaki with an application before the Court of Appeal.

He said Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court had accused the EFCC of taking laws into its hands by sealing off his property without an order of a court.

The January 15, 2018 petition of Madaki however reads in part: “Zari was arrested by the EFCC sometime in March 2017 for some alleged offences. However shortly after his release on bail by the EFCC, he accused our client(Madaki) as the whistleblower that reported him to the EFCC.

“He openly vowed to some people that know Madaki that he would fight him by exposing him as a corrupt EFCC official.

“ Zari fabricated various online publications against our client, alleging that our client owns various piece of land in Gunduma village of Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State worth about N10billion only and two houses in Abuja worth N650million only.

“Following the publication of Alhaji Zari’s allegations against our client, the Chairman of EFCC constituted a team that investigated the allegations.

“At the end of the investigation, the report cleared our client and two other operatives accused by Zari. However, Zari was not satisfied with the investigations which cleared our client.

“Notwithstanding the outcome of the investigation, Zari went about accusing our client in the entire Gunduma Village and beyond.

“At the behest of  Zari, our client was arrested on the eve of Sallah at his house in Keffi by the Police from Nasarawa State Police Command and taken to Lafiya where he was later released the next day in the evening. Nonetheless, Zari was still not happy that our client was eventually released on bail by the Police.

“He openly boasted to our client after his release on bail that he would eliminate him if he ( Zari) does not succeed in sending him to jail.

“He even boasted to our client that he is very rich and has many jobless young men that he can use to ferment trouble in Gunduma and deal with our client.

“Our client’s life is now seriously threatened by Alhaji Zari on the mere suspicion that our client is the brain behind his invitation and investigation by the EFCC.

In view of this threat, we are appealing to your good self to look into this complaint with a view to directing an investigation of our allegations against Zari and averting the threat to our client’s life and possible breakdown of law and order in Gundulma Village.

“In this regard, we will appreciate if the Inspector General will direct a special crack investigation team from Force Headquarters, Abuja for this matter.

“At the moment, our client lives in constant fear of threat to his life as  Zari boasted to him after his release on bail that he would eliminate him if he (Zari) does not succeed in sending him to jail.

“He also boasted to our client that he has many jobless young men that he can use to ferment trouble in Gunduma and chase out any indigene that he considers-as a threat.

“Sir, this is a clear case of “corruption fighting back” as our President and commander-in-chief once remarked. Our client is now being threatened by a person who is under investigation on the mere suspicion that our client is the brain behind his invitation and interrogation by the EFCC.

“Therefore, we are appealing to your good self to look into this complaint and direct an investigation of our allegations against Zari with a view to prosecuting him and averting his apparent threats or possible elimination of our client’s life and the breakdown of law and order in Gunduma Village.

“Sir, we will also appreciate that the investigation of this petition and any allegation by Zari be consolidated and carried out by the office of the Inspector General of Police”.

But Zari through his counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome(SAN) said he was detained by the EFCC beyond the constitutionally guaranteed period.

He said he only went to court for the enforcement of his Fundamental Human Rights.

In an application before the Court of Appeal, Zari said a Federal High Court presided over by Justice Binta Nyako “found and held that the EFCC cannot seal a person’s property without order of court and that evidence shows they have done so, thus taking the laws into their hands. And this they are not permitted to do as they ought to operate only within the confines of the law.

“Zari had already been detained beyond the constitutionally guaranteed period before the alleged bail was granted to him by the Respondents(EFCC and Madaki) and the trial court did not take the constitutional breach into consideration in her judgment.

“The EFCC and Madaki acted in contravention of the law by sealing Zari’s business and residential premises.

“Section 35 (6) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria(1999) make provisions for compensation and public apology from the appropriate authority or person found to have acted illegally and unlawfully as has been done by EFCC and Madaki in this case.”

Olokun is pressing charges against Kashamu over alleged unlawful arrest, continuous threat to life, harassment and infringement on fundamental human rights.

Olokun, a legal practititioner, who filed the application at the Federal High Court in Abuja, alleged that Kashamu was making murderous threats to his life through phone calls.
