2014 World Cup: Eagles’ defence not good-Babangida

    From Segun Ogunjimi, Abuja

Former Super Eagles right wing attacker, Tijani Babangida has raised alarm over the competence and readiness of the Eagles defence line to curtail as well as ward off red-hot attackers Nigeria would be meeting at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The Chairman of Taraba United Football Club said urgent solution is needed in Eagles defence line so that quality and result oriented players are invited to beef up the team’s defence well on time before the World Cup slated to commence in six months time.

“I have not always been comfortable with how the current defenders have done the job so far. That area needs a lot of attention because it is very vital for the team that is aspiring to do well at the World Cup. The coaching crew have to really work on getting the right pair in the last defense line, I have observed that they have really been alternating the players and have not gotten the right pair for now,” he pointed out.

Babangida urged the Eagles handler to consider extending invitation to other Nigeria defenders with a view to giving those in the team now a stiff competition for the position.

“I think there are still some defenders out there that can be invited to give some fight to those in camp already, because once they know that if they fail to perform there are players on ground to take over their position,” he said.

He concluded by saying as a matter of fact that the team has quality players to do the nation proud at the World Cup if the grey area noticed is corrected on time.

“I am very comfortable with the Eagles attack and I know they can cause any defense in that group serious problem. It is just for the team to work hard because playing at the World Cup is not an easy one,” Babangida stated.

  • Babangida eyes big signing for Taraba FC

Taraba FC Chairman, Tijani Babangida, is hoping to reinforce his team with some more experienced Nigerian Premier league players before the kick-off of the new season.
The former Ajax Amsterdam wing wizard who had fulfilled his mandate by promoting Taraba FC to the Nigerian Premier League believes that with four or five more experienced players , the team will settle well in the top league and plead to the government to back the team for more successful campaigns.
“When you have the opportunity to compete in the big league, all you need to focus on is to settle well and try to remain in the league for another season. Our focus again now is to sustain the momentum in the top league so that we can dream of more ambitious campaign,” said Babangida.
“I think signing more experienced players at various positions will be more ideal to our dreams. We have bigger dreams but only motivation and diligence can really help us. I believe if we are really motivated, we will remain in the league because there are no ways we will not be playing better. FC Taraba will be a team to learn in the premier league.”
Taraba FC have clinched promotion to the Nigeria Premier League with a hard-fought 1 – 0 victory over the already promoted Giwa FC on the final day of the National League.
