Beware of el-Rufai’s antics, APC chieftain warns Buhari

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Timi Frank has warned President Muhammadu Buhari to beware of the antics of the likes of Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai whom he said has a record of betraying all his benefactors.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, Frank said the President must be careful in dealing with the governor, pointing out that his claim of being a member of the “Buharist’s group” amount to deservice to some other Nigerians who truly love the President.

Frank who was reacting to a statement credited to the governor over comments attributed to the Women Affairs Minister Aisha Jummai Alhassan, declared that what the Minister said was out of conscience, honesty and not disrespect for President Buhari, saying the woman did not mean any arm.

He said President Buhari is a man of the people and knows the people who are truly his own and when people are talking of loyalty, El-rufai should keep quite because he is not known to be one. A serial betrayal like this governor has no record of loyalty to anybody.

He dismissed the claim by the governor that his group was asking President Buhari to seek re-election in 2019, pointing out that the governor does not have any electoral value and credibility to force the President to contest the 2019 elections, adding that “Buhari is in best position to take such decision by himself.”

He said the antics of the governor was aimed at blackmailing the President into endorsing him for a second term bid or endorse him to run for the President if the President refuse to seek re-election.

Frank who is also the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC reminded the Presidency that “when Nigerians were busy praying for safe return of Mr. President from his medical leave to London some months back, it was alleged that the likes of El-rufai were busy scheming on how to become the Vice President.

“El-rufai is known for singing sycophantic praises whenever he is in government. He did it to former President Olusegun Obasenjo and later abandoned him. He did it to Atiku, who brought him to the limelight, and letter became his enemy. He has even repeated this same act against President Muhammad Buhari, who El-rufai said that he would never become President. The record is there for everybody to see. He will do it again once Buhari leaves government.

“May be, El-rufai was expecting Mama Taraba to become selfish, self-centered, arrogant and turn Judas like him, and turn her back against Atiku Abubakar who will always stand by her again and again politically,” he said.

On the statement credited to the former Vice President which is generating reactions, Frank urged the President to look at the comments and the good intention aimed at adding value to his government and not otherwise.

Frank also recalled that the same El-rufai had late last year wrote a lengthy lamentation letter to the President which was later made public.

Apologise to Nigerians rather than cast aspersions, Timi Frank tells Anenih

The suspended Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank said yesterday that the former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, Tony Anenih should apologise to Nigerians for the damage he and other did the Nigerians  rather than casting aspersions on  Nigerians.

Frank said in a statement in Abuja that Chief Anenih should tell Nigerians one good thing he will be remembered for as a politician, adding that he also helped to destroy his own party, the PDP.

Chief Anenih, who served as the Minister of Works and Housing between 1999 and 2002, had said in his book, titled ‘My Life and Nigerian Politics,’ which was presented in Abuja, at weekend, that Atiku became too ambitious during the build-up to the 2003 presidential election in which Obasanjo was seeking a second term.

He said Chief Anenih lied on his 2003 account, adding that more than 22 PDP governors were strongly behind Atiku to contest the Presidency but choose to stepped down for his boss because of his loyalty.

He said it was out of place for Chief Anenih to described the former Vice-president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as a ambitious politician “when he himself was more desperate than Atiku who had opportunity to become President in the past but remained loyal to his boss. “

He said: “it is high time Chief Anenih should also tell the world the kind of legacy he is leaving behind in all his years in politics. Baba Anenih’s desperation to remain in the corridor of power made him to force former Goodluck Jonathan to run again in 2015 when he knew he (Jonathan) couldn’t win.

“Chief Tony Anenih has lost the moral right to talk about  former Vice President Atiku Abubarkar or any other Nigerian for that matter seeing that he is one of the reasons Nigeria and especially the Niger Delta region  is where we are today.

“What has Anenih done for the Niger Delta where he comes from? Instead of using his position to help the Niger delta and Nigeria at large to find lasting solutions to its numerous challenges, he choosed to support third term agenda.

“Under his watch as Minister of Works, 300 Billion Naira disappeared into thin air. As NPA chairman, what positive contribution did he make for the benefit of Nigeria? Even in the South-South where Anenih comes from, Atiku a Northerner has touched people’s lives positively in terms of job employment more than Anenih will ever do in his life time. Anenih is not called Mr fixer for no reason, he helped put Nigeria and Nigerians in the fix we find ourselves today.

APC awaits court’s verdict on Timi Frank

THE National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said yesterday that it will not take any further action against suspended Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Timi Frank, pending the determination of the suit he instituted against the party in court.

The party said it was fully ready for this Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State, congratulating the PDP candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, for his victory at the Court of Appeal.

Its Deputy National Secretary, Obi Ngofa, told reporters at the end of the National Working Committee meeting that by the provisions of the party’s constitution, Frank technically stands expelled from the party by virtue of the case he instituted against the party.

Ngofa said while the zonal executive has the power to carry out such investigation, the responsibility of the NWC was to take the recommendation of the zonal committee to the National Executive Committee meeting for ratification.

Ngofa told reporters at the end of the NWC meeting that the party was conscious of the case instituted by Timi Frank, which he said, contravened the provisions of the party’s constitution.

He said: “The position of the National Working Committee of the party on the issue of Timi Frank is that we have accepted the recommendation of the zonal committee that sat on it after reviewing the report they gave to us yesterday. “Timi Frank did not appear at any of the sittings. He has rather gone to court, our position is that we will not jeopardise the matter that is in court now. As a law abiding political party, we will wait until the court decides.

On Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State, the party said it was ready to take over power from the PDP in Ondo state.

He said the APC was battle ready to dethrone the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), irrespective of the candidate they present, adding that the APC remain the only party ready for the election while other parties were busy calling for postponement.

He maintained that the entrance of Jegede into the race would make the contest more competitive and interesting, saying: “It is okay. No table has turned against us. I can say we are prepared.”

  • APC suspends Timi Frank

    APC suspends Timi Frank

The South South zonal Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday announced the suspension of the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Timi Frank from the party.
Announcing the suspension, the National Vice Chairman in charge of the Zone, Ntufam Hilliard Eta said the zonal leadership of the party will recommend the expulsion of Comrade Timi Frank from the party to the National Executive Committee in accordance with the party constitution.
Eta said: I received the report of the disciplinary committee setup to look into the allegations of embarrassing utterances and anti-party activates by Mr Timi Frank, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of this party. Incidentally, he’s from Bayelsa in the South South zone.
“In furtherance of satisfying the provision of the constitution of the APC, I had to call for this emergency meeting of the zone and after very exhaustive deliberation, the zone has arrived at the confirmation of the disciplinary committee’s report that one, Mr Timi Frank be suspended from the party forthwith in line with article 1 (d) and (f). Having been accepted by this house, Mr Timi Frank hereby stands suspended by this party.
“Number two, this zonal committee shall recommend to the National Executive Committee for the expulsion of Timi Frank from this party in line with Article 21 D, H (2 and 3) of our constitution. This is the resolution of the South South Zonal Executive Committee.”
Eta dismiss claims that the zonal executive committee was hasty in suspending Timi Frank inspite of efforts by the APC Governors forum to reconcile the warring parties.
He said “the tenet of our party’s constitution stipulates that petitions should be swiftly treated. Concerning what the Chairman of the governor’s forum is doing, it is not in conflict with the party maintaining discipline within its ranks and file, it is not running at opposite direction. We are attempting to grow our party, it does not therefore mean that we’ll not be alive to our responsibilities with regard to maintaining a disciplined membership of the party.”
On whether the party may reverse its decision if the man in question apologise, he said if that is provided for in the party’s constitution, the zonal executive committee may be compelled to look at that matter from that perspective.
He said further that despite Frank’s claim that the zonal executive committee lacks the constitutional power to prosecute him, he cited the Article 21 of the party’s constitution saying “the party shall have power to discipline party members, the power shall be exercise on behalf of the party by the respective executive committee of the party at all levels.
“Timi Frank is a member of the NEC, a member of the ZEC and a member of Local Executive Committee and State Executive Committee and World Executive Committee, any of these executive committees can look into petitions against any member including myself.
“This constitution is radically different from the constitutions of parties that have preceded us. A lot of Nigerians assume that all political parties have the same constitution, ours is not the same as operated by the PDP, APGA or any other party out there so you must internalize the content of this constitution.I have heard him (Timi Frank) make some assertions but I know they are not in our constitution.”

Timi Frank fails to appear before APC disciplinary panel

All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Publicity Secretary Comrade Timi Frank yesterday failed to appear before the five-man disciplinary committee set up by the party’s Southsouth zonal leadership to investigate a petition against him.

It was not clear whether the committee sat yesterday, but sources at the party secretariat said its members came to the secretariat in the morning, met briefly and left.

Frank had said that he would not appear before the committee, which he alleged was set up by the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, describing it as a kangaroo committee.

Dismissing the committee, he said: “I am not aware of any committee until now. I have not been served with any letter. If that is true, I am waiting to receive a letter from such committee. I don’t know who set up that committee. I don’t know whether it is a committee approved by the party structure or appointed by the National Chairman…

“What is happening now is as a result of my recent resolve to embark on a rescue mission to expose the internal wrangling within the party by visiting party leaders.

“I want to make it clear that I will not be intimidated by anybody in this party. I am a loyal party member; I believe in this party and will do everything I can to rescue this party because the party is in a total mess today under the leadership of Odigie-Oyegun.”

Chairman of the committee Solomon Edoga told reporters last week that the members have sent a letter by courier to Frank, expressing confidence that he would honour the committee’s invitation, which he said was set up in accordance with the APC constitution.

He said the petitioner, one Aniekan Okon, has appeared before the committee and provided them with additional information and has promised to supply more information to the committee.

  • Timi Frank’s strange loyalty

SIR: Going by the interview broadcast on Channel Television featuring the deputy National Publicity secretary of APC, Mr Timi Frank where he shared the genesis of his grouse with the National Chairman Chief John Oyegun, one begins to wonder what Frank’s philosophy of party politics is and his orientation of loyalty.

Timi Frank did not find it self-indulgent and egocentric to attempt to pull down the house and remain in default mode of nebulous fault lines because he was not allowed to act as substantial publicity secretary.

What is more worrisome is Timi’s chemistry of loyalty which he didn’t consider deserving of his party but of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

One rarely hears Timi Frank defend his party except to amplify every perceived differences among members to the pedestal of party implosion.

What are Timi’s thoughts on critical national issues like anti-corruption programme, Chibok girls’ captivity, National Assembly crisis and other issues demanding the intervention of an executive party member of Timi’s standing.

Femi Fani-Kayode does not seek any position in PDP for him to defend his party and articulate his opinion on pressing national issues.

As long as Timi Frank’s interests are neither nationalistic nor party-centric, it remains precariously trite and should be treated as mere rouble-rousing.

  • Timi Frank to Odigie-Oyegun: publish ‘undoctored’ APC NWC minutes

Timi Frank to Odigie-Oyegun: publish ‘undoctored’ APC NWC minutes

ALL Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Publicity Secretary Timi Frank has challenged the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, to publish the minutes of the National Working Committee (NWC), where the party rejected the report of the Ondo State Primary Appeal Panel.

In a statement in Abuja, Frank wondered why it took the national chairman two weeks “to prepare lies as responses”.

According to him, the situation in the party as well as the accusation and counter-accusation have got to a stage where Odigie-Oyegun must publish what he described as “the undoctored minutes of the meeting, if he does not have any skeleton in his cupboard”.

He said: “Unknown to the national chairman, the last two NWC meetings were properly recorded and the record shows the contributions of each and every member of the NWC at the meetings.

“Chief Odigie-Oyegun should tell the world why he brushed aside the suggestion of the National Youth leader Dasuki Jalo, who suggested that the party should submit an interim name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pending the time a political solution will be found to the matter.

“But Odigie-Oyegun and few others, who benefited from the corruption that produced Rotimi Akeredolu as governorship candidate did not see wisdom in what the national youth leader said.

“Chief Odigie-Oyegun’s few responses to the many allegations raised by our leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, can never hold water. For example, the chairman and his cohort contradicted themselves when Odigie-Oyegun said there was no voting, but he forgot that the National Vice Chairman Hilliard Eta told reporters that there was voting, which is in agreement with the position of the party’s Southwest National Vice Chairman Chief Pius Akinyelure, who also said the NWC members actually voted on the Ondo State Governorship Appeal Panel Report.”

He quoted Odigie-Oyegun as saying in his response that “voting on the issue became unnecessary and never took place in view of NWC’s rejection of the Appeal Committee’s report, while the Southsouth Vice Chairman Hilliard Eta had said before we met on the last day for the submission of name to INEC, we had met three days earlier. In that meeting, there were two reports before the NWC. That of the appeal committee was voted on. That day, we were 14 in number, not 11 as we have it in the media.

“After that, we mandated our national chairman and secretary to go out and do wider consultations so that we can have a political solution to the heated environment the situation has caused the party”.

He asked: “Now, who is deceiving who? In another clime, Chief Odigie-Oyegun would have voluntarily resigned as the national chairman of APC to allow someone else correct the damage he had done to the ruling party.

“But it is not too late. Our National leader Tinubu has spoken that Odigie-Oyegun should step aside, and that is the opinion of larger percentage of leaders and members of APC. It is expected of our national chairman to do the needful before the evidences of many evils done to the party will be made public.”

He asked all lovers of APC “to disregard Chief Odigie-Oyegun’s “made-to-believe-lies” because the true position of what transpired at the NWC meeting had been revealed by the National Vice Chairman (Southwest) Chief Pius Akinyelure.

“It is surprising that Odigie-Oyegun made mention of party constitution in the process of removing the national chairman, but the same Odigie-Oyegun has never obeyed the party’s constitution in calling for NEC meeting as expected and by allowing the deputy national officers to act in absence of their bosses. My case is a perfect example. Odigie-Oyegun must go!”

  • Party chief’s position on Bayelsa, others personal, says APC

Party chief’s position on Bayelsa, others personal, says APC

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed a statement by the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Timi Frank.

Frank had alleged that Minister of State for Agriculture Heineken Lokpobiri bribed ex-Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva to become minister.

But APC’s National Secretary Mai Mala Buni, in a statement in Abuja, said: “The bogus and misleading allegations are distractions to the party’s resolve to support the President deliver on the promises made by our party to the electorate.

“The APC national leadership remains united and committed to the task of bringing cohesion to the party at all levels.

“Recently, the APC held its national caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings where positive and far-reaching decisions were taken by the party’s leadership to drive the party forward.

“The party will not deny anybody or interest the right to seek justice where he feels this has been denied him. However, we appeal that we play by the rules in our engagements and be guarded in our utterances.

“The public is advised not to misinterpret or confuse Frank’s personal opinions to be the official position of the party or the true reflection of what is happening inside the party.

‘’For the umpteenth time, only the APC national chairman and national secretary are authorised to speak for the party.”

The party’s deputy national publicity secretary, made the allegations yesterday while speaking on issues affecting the party at his residence in Abuja.

He urged the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, David Babachir Lawal, not to jeopardise his office by accepting nominations from Sylva to occupy political positions meant for the state.

But the SGF said the leadership of the APC in Bayelsa State should leave him out of their problem and find a way of resolving their internal crisis.

When contacted on phone, the SGF said: “I want to reiterate that Timi Sylva is a  good friend of mine. That notwithstanding, it is not the SGF that does appointment. It is the President that does appointment.

“In any case, l don’t know what they are talking about concerning Sylva and appointments because Chief Timipre Sylva is also a friend to the President and l am sure he doesn’t need to pass through me to get anyone appointed.

“By the way, l don’t know these people, so let them go and fight the Bayelsa battles and leave the SGF out of it.”

  • My life under threat, says APC spokesman

My life under threat, says APC spokesman

ALL Progressives Congress’ (APC’s) Deputy National Publicity Secretary Comrade Timi Frank was detained yesterday by men of the Directorate of State Security at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on arrival from France.

Following his experience with the DSS agents, he said: “As I speak, this is a very serious issue. My life is under threat and it is very important to let you know that if anything happens to me from today, the Nigerian security agencies must be held responsible.”

Frank told reporters that he was detained for over one hour by the security agents at the airport’s Immigration point and later released without anybody saying anything to him.

The APC chieftain said he decided to share his experience with Nigerians, since as the nation gets closer to next year’s elections, “there is a form of crackdown on some opposition leaders by the security agencies, including the DSS, who are now being used to harass and intimidate opposition leaders.”

He explained that his detention was another strategy the agency had adopted to intimidate opposition leaders.

But he assured that no amount of intimidation from the DSS or any other security agency will stop him from speaking out.

His words: “I arrived at the airport at about 5pm on Tuesday on my way from Paris, France. At the Immigration point where they normally stamp the passport, I was stopped by a lady who walked to me with three others in mufti. As soon as I dropped my passport, she ceased the passport and asked me to move aside. I asked why and she said it was an instruction which I must obey.

“As a law abiding citizen, I obeyed and moved aside. Without telling me anything, she took me to where other security agents were sitting and said that I should sit there, and asked the other SSS people there to keep me in their custody until she gets further clearance.

“I asked the man sitting beside me shy I was being treated like a member of Boko Haram?

“So, I have decided to let Nigerians know that as we get closer to the 2015 elections, there is a form of crackdown on some opposition leaders by the security agencies, including the DSS, which is now being used to harass and intimidate opposition leaders in Nigeria.

“This maybe the first step. For me, it may be a small one, but I can assure you that this is another strategy they have adopted to intimidate opposition leaders. Let me also assure you that no amount of intimidation from security agents will stop me.

“Despite being the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, I am also an activist. I have been talking and fighting for the right of Nigerians. I have been fighting against corruption in this country.

“No amount of intimidation from the DSS or any other security agency will stop me from speaking and not even the Presidency.

“As I speak, this is a very serious issue. My life is under threat and it is very important to let you know that if anything happens to me from today, the Nigerian security agencies must be held responsible. The job of the SSS is to protect Nigerians and not to harass Nigerians or the opposition.
