A civic group, The Citizens Project, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration may be setting a new record as the most documented president in Africa by citizens and organisations.

Its Chief Facilitator/Co-Convener, Dr.Sam Okey Nwosu in a statement revealed that since Tinubu’s assumption of office on May 29, 2023, the organisation has been closely tracking his policies, reforms, appointments, and major decisions, adding that unlike traditional government records, the initiative is entirely citizen-led and focused on transparency and accountability.

The project according to the group has produced The Reform Index™, a growing collection of records that highlight key actions taken by the Tinubu administration, which include the removal of fuel subsidies, currency reforms, regional development efforts, and major judicial appointments.

Nwosu said initiative operates across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, stressing that its goal is to make governance more visible and measurable — not to praise or criticize the government, but to ensure democracy is active beyond just elections.

“This isn’t about praise or criticism, it is about making governance visible and reminding everyone that democracy thrives when people are not just voting, but also watching.

Ndigbo intellectuals applaud Tinubu for launch of South East investment company

The Ndigbo Intellectuals Development Organization (NIDO), a sociocultural think tank committed to the advancement of Igbo values, prosperity, and regional development, has appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approval of the South East Investment Company (SEIC), hailing it as a groundbreaking initiative that signals a new dawn for the South-East and for inclusive development across Nigeria.

NIDO, formally incorporated with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on May 30, 2025, commended the Federal Government for aligning national policy with the urgent economic aspirations of the South-East region.

In a press statement by Dr. Afulike Christian, PhD, Director of Communications, and Pharm. Ikeagwuonwu Chinedu Klinsmann, Director of Diaspora Affairs, the group described SEIC as “a visionary step with the potential to catalyze real economic transformation, attract massive private investment, and reenergize the development legacy of the South-East.”

With a projected blended capital base of over ₦150 billion, SEIC is a wholly owned subsidiary of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), strategically structured to function as a public-private partnership. It will deploy innovative financial instruments such as hybrid bonds, equity participation, and callable capital frameworks to attract funding from state governments, development finance institutions, the private sector, and the Igbo diaspora.

NIDO emphasised that the establishment of SEIC marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s development trajectory, noting that the initiative not only aims to unlock the South-East’s untapped potential but also presents a scalable model for inclusive, region-driven economic growth in other parts of the country.

“This is more than a company – it is a coordinated vision to close infrastructure gaps, build indigenous capital, support entrepreneurship, and foster regional economic competitiveness in a way that does not depend solely on annual federal allocations,” Afulike stated.

Klinsmann echoed these sentiments, adding that “with SEIC, the South-East now has a structured platform to amplify its entrepreneurial energy, attract foreign direct investments, and strategically invest in sectors like agro-development, manufacturing, power, and innovation. This is how regional economies are built – by leveraging both local intelligence and global financial frameworks.”
Under the stewardship of Mr. Mark Okoye, Managing Director/CEO of the SEDC, the SEIC has already received its Certificate of Incorporation, and preliminary frameworks are being finalised to launch the company’s first pilot investments in Q4 2025.

“Mr. Okoye’s leadership – driven by precision, reform-mindedness, and youth dynamism – is exactly what the South-East and Nigeria need at this time,” Afulike saidm

“He brings technocratic experience, integrity, and a deep connection with both government and grassroots stakeholders, which has been critical in giving SEIC a strong foundation.”

Key initiatives lined up under SEIC include the South-East Regional Economic and Industrial Program; the South-East Agro-Development Program targeting 50,000 hectares for agricultural productivity; the South-East Venture Capital Fund with an initial $50 million to support MSMEs and startups; and the SEGRID program focused on grassroots recreational and youth development infrastructure.

These projects, NIDO emphasised, will have direct impact on local communities by creating jobs, improving access to capital, and addressing long-standing structural inequalities.

The industrial corridor of Aba in Abia State, for instance, stands to benefit immensely from targeted infrastructure and capital interventions. “SEIC’s work will not only revitalise Aba as Nigeria’s indigenous manufacturing hub, but will also stimulate economic activities across Enugu, Onitsha, Owerri, and beyond,” Klinsmann added.

NIDO commended SEIC’s planned adherence to global best practices. The company’s governance structure provides for independent fund managers, custodians, auditors and compliance with global accounting and investment standards.

This, according to the organisation, is crucial to de-risking investments, attracting long-term capital, and insulating SEIC from political interference. “This kind of corporate structure gives confidence to the diaspora and international investors that the South-East is finally open for serious business,” Afulike noted.

Tinubu’s decision to greenlight the SEIC also drew particular praise from the organisation. NIDO acknowledged the President’s political courage and inclusive development mindset, noting that “this bold action is a reaffirmation of his Renewed Hope Agenda as not just a slogan but a working roadmap that is capable of real results.”

The statement praised Tinubu for “restoring the template of the Eastern Nigeria Development Corporation (ENDC), which once powered the region’s industrial advancement,” and noted that “by reviving and modernizing that model through SEIC, Mr. President is rekindling hope in a generation that has been yearning for inclusion and opportunity.”

In the broader national context, NIDO said SEIC’s success could serve as a blueprint for other regional economic commissions, showing how public-private partnerships, if properly structured, can drive equitable growth, reduce dependency on oil revenue, and deepen national cohesion. The initiative, according to the group, is already drawing interest from global partners such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), signaling strong alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The statement revealed that the roadmap for SEIC involves initial pilot programmes in late 2025, followed by major PPP engagements and investor outreach in 2026.

The 2026–2028 phase will focus on infrastructure delivery, SME support, and agro-industrial development. By 2035, the vision is for the South-East to become one of Africa’s top five investment destinations, growing its regional economy from $40 billion to $200 billion, with landmark projects in agri-tech, health, education, and green manufacturing.

Calling for unity and cooperation among all stakeholders, NIDO urged South-East governors, federal ministries, the National Assembly, DFIs, private investors, and diaspora networks to rally around SEIC’s mission.

“From Lagos to Johannesburg, New York to Nsukka, this is the time for the sons and daughters of Igbo land to invest – financially, intellectually, and spiritually – in the economic future of our people,” Klinsmann declared.

The statement concluded with an appeal for sustained political support, especially from President Tinubu, to ensure that SEIC is not only fully operationalized but protected from the bureaucracy and delays that have undermined previous initiatives.

“This is our generation’s moment to rebuild the economic infrastructure of the South-East, to chart a new path, and to deliver prosperity that lifts all,” Afulike said.

NIDO reaffirmed its readiness to work hand-in-hand with the leadership of SEIC and SEDC in galvanizing diaspora support, engaging development partners, and sustaining public awareness on the opportunities the company presents.

“We believe that SEIC can become the single most impactful economic project of this decade in the South-East,” the organization declared. “With the right political will, private sector participation, and diaspora investment, this initiative will usher in a new economic renaissance for our people.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday called on Nigerians, especially the Yoruba nation, to unite and uphold the enduring legacy of the late Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who passed away on July 13 at the age of 91.

Speaking at the eight-day Fidau Islamic prayers held in honour of the late monarch at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode, President Tinubu extolled Oba Adetona as a principled, fearless, and dignified leader whose reign defined an era of truth, integrity, and cultural pride.

“Today marks a great day in the history of Nigeria and in the particular history of the Yoruba race. You cannot find a better definition of our culture than in the life and legacy of the Awujale. He brought pride, dignity, and honour to the Yoruba people. I am extremely proud of him”, President Tinubu declared.

Urging unity among Nigerians, the President said, “We have to be more united, bonded in the spirit that he left behind. Let us cherish his legacy and appreciate him in death. His legacy will endure—it is left for you and me to reflect the values he represented.”

President Tinubu highlighted Oba Adetona’s quiet but impactful role in Nigeria’s democratic journey, describing him as a steadfast supporter of the June 12 struggle.

He recounted personal moments of support from the late monarch, including his prayers and blessings during the 2023 presidential election campaign.

“He was resolute in support for the reversal of the June 12 annulment. During my campaign, I came to him, and he blessed me. He told me, ‘You will win that election and you will win another one.’ Today, he is no more, but he lived to see the calendar as a 91-year-old and was honoured with the Grand Commander of the Niger. I am proud to have shared that journey with him,” Tinubu said.

Delivering the Islamic sermon, Professor Kamaldeen Balogun emphasised the importance of living a life anchored in faith and justice.

“The day we must fear most is the day death comes. Oba Adetona ruled with the fear of God. He came into the world with Islam, and he left with Islam”, he said.

Arewa groups demand inclusion, transparency in Tinubu appraisal by Ahmadu Bello Foundation

A coalition of northern youth groups has called for greater inclusiveness and transparency in the upcoming appraisal of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, being organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna.

Speaking under the banner of the Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders Forum, the group warned that any engagement conducted in the name of the North must reflect the voices of all key stakeholders, including youths, women, traditional and religious leaders, and civil society organisations.

“We are not against the idea of appraising the government,” said Muhammad Isah Imam, Secretary of Media and Public Affairs for the Forum, during a press conference in Kaduna over the weekend. “But we cannot accept a process that excludes the very people it claims to represent.”

Imam criticised the Foundation—despite its reputation—for allegedly acting unilaterally without consulting the broader coalition that spearheaded the historic 2022 Northern Presidential Engagement.

“That 2022 forum was a collective effort,” Imam recalled. “All northern groups came together to demand clear commitments from presidential candidates. How then can one foundation now assume the mandate to evaluate the President’s performance on behalf of the entire North?”

The Forum warned that the initiative risks losing legitimacy if it continues as a closed-door affair, calling instead for the event to be expanded to accommodate a wider array of voices, particularly those directly affected by federal government policies.

Imam stressed that northern youths would not tolerate being sidelined. “We are demanding inclusion, not out of entitlement, but necessity. Any engagement that fails to involve youth voices is fundamentally flawed.”

The group demanded that the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation immediately make public the event’s objectives, agenda, and participant list to assure the northern public that the initiative is transparent, inclusive, and not politically manipulated.

“Is this truly an independent appraisal of Tinubu’s government, or is it being shaped by external political interests?” Imam queried. “We deserve to know who’s involved, what will be discussed, and how outcomes will be measured.”

The group also questioned why other original conveners of the 2022 engagement have been left out of the process and called on respected northern elders to intervene and ensure the region is not misrepresented.

“If the North is to speak, let it be a united voice—not a selected few behind closed doors,” Imam declared. “We must protect the integrity of our platforms.”

While reaffirming its respect for the legacy of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the coalition said true honouring of the Sardauna’s memory lies in transparency, inclusion, and grassroots participation, not elite-dominated initiatives.

“The North is watching, and we will not allow anyone, no matter how well-meaning, to hijack our collective voice,” Imam warned. “We are ready to engage, but only through a process that is open, honest, and people-driven.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday joined other dignitaries in Ijebu-Ode to pay his respects at the eighth-day Fidau prayers held in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who passed away recently after an extraordinary 65-year reign on the throne.

In a message posted on his verified X handle, @officialABAT, the President described the late monarch as more than a traditional ruler, calling him “a confidante, a guide, and a man of truth” whose counsel shaped decisions and provided clarity in moments of uncertainty.

“Last Sunday, within hours, I lost two men I held in the highest esteem: my dear predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari, and Kabiyesi, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona Ogbagba II, the Awujale of Ijebuland, who joined his ancestors after over 65 remarkable years on the throne,” Tinubu wrote.

Reflecting on Oba Adetona’s legacy, President Tinubu hailed his reign as one of “rare dignity, candour, and courage,” noting that the monarch consistently placed the interests of his people above all else.

He praised the Awujale’s deep sense of duty and described his voice as one that carried weight across Nigeria’s traditional institutions.

“Kabiyesi was more than a royal father to me. He was a confidante, a guide, and a man of truth whose wisdom never failed to steady those who sought it. His voice, leadership, and generosity will echo far beyond Ijebuland”, the President stated.

President Tinubu, who made the journey to Ijebu-Ode specifically for the prayer session, said he came to honour the Awujale’s enduring legacy and to stand with the people of Ijebuland in mourning a monumental figure.

OPC cautions Asari Dokubo over outbursts against Tinubu

Oodua People’s Congress( reformed) leader, Chief Dare Adesope  has sent a strong warning to former Niger Delta militant leader, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, for calling the Yoruba as betrayers.

The ex-militant leader, during a live broadcast circulating on the internet had recently accused Tinubu and Yoruba of being betrayers.

Dokubo also vowed to form an alliance with the north to work against Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Adesope, in a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday, said the former militant leader should speak for himself and not ruin the good relationship that co-exists between the Yoruba and the Ijaw people.

Adesope said that Asari Dokubo didn’t represent the Ijaw people in his recent outbursts and he should be ignored and left to stew in his juice.

The OPC leader also said it would have be difficult for the ex-militant to be where he is today without the help of Tinubu as he had earlier admitted in an interview he did on line in 2023 that “Tinubu bought him his first car on his return from prison and he also pay his children school fees, feeds his family and even give his wife a house.

According to the OPC leader, Asari is a selfish two faced character who after visiting President Bola Tinubu two years ago promised to do all in his power to stop oil theft in the Niger Delta region thinking the pipeline contract would  be given to him.

He said, Dokubo is only grieved that his brother Tompolo is the one benefiting the pipeline surveillance contract, reason he turned around to pass insults on Tinubu.

“Asari cannot point to any of his followers he has empowered because he is a self-centered leader, let him mind his choice of words where Yoruba people are concerned  or else we will restrict his movement in Yorubaland.

“This is how he pushed Fubara bragging that if Wike removed him something would happen, but nothing happened except the state of emergency and he has not done anything since then. So, the Ijaw Nation I know can never descend so low to the point of requiring Asari Dokubo to lead it because his utterances are immature and unstable,” Adesope added.
