Tinubu greets Adamu Mu’azu at 70

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday congratulated former Governor of Bauchi State , Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, on his 70th birthday. He also praised his contributions to public service and the nation’s democratic development.

“We were governors at the same time between 1999 and 2007, a trying period for our new beginning,” Tinubu said, hailing Mu’azu’s legacy in education, health, and infrastructure in Bauchi State.

He also hailed Mu’azu’s role in the peaceful transition of power in 2015, saying: “Though your party lost the election, you upheld democratic values above party interests.”

President Tinubu wished Mu’azu continued good health and peace in the years ahead.

Wike: Tinubu’s performance has shattered coalition gang up

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s performance has dismantled the gang-up by opposition politicians to form a coalition against him.

Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesome Wike said this yesterday during the inauguration of Arterial Road N16 in Katampe District, Abuja.

It was the second day of the inauguration of projects undertaken by the FCT in two years.

The President inaugurated the completed stretch of Shehu Shagari Way, linking the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway to Wole Soyinka Way through Katampe and adjoining districts.

The project, which includes a major interchange and access roads, is part of the Abuja master plan stalled for years before being revived under Wike’s leadership.

President Tinubu emphasised that his administration will continue to prioritise service delivery and national development over political grandstanding.

He said: “We will continue to build; we will continue to serve the people, no matter how much the naysayers pursue their politics.

“We did not ignore this project. We did not worry about protests. The government has played its part.”

Describing the project commissioning as a milestone, President Tinubu added: “This project represents more than a stretch of asphalt. It affirms our commitment to urban transformation under our Renewed Hope Agenda.

“What was once missing as a link is now a modern, functional and durable infrastructure.”

He praised Wike’s leadership and collaborative approach to delivering the project.

President Tinubu stressed: “Once again, I commend Wike and his team. He could not achieve this alone without collaboration as a team builder and a team player. You have proved that teamship is the hallmark of good leadership,” President Tinubu said.

The President said he would deploy infrastructure as a tool for national growth, social inclusion, and economic transformation.

He said: “Infrastructure is not a luxury; it is a necessity. It is the bedrock of national competitiveness, growth, social integration and economic opportunity.”

President Tinubu noted that Nigeria’s future lies in its ability to connect cities, communities, and industries with world-class infrastructure.

He added: “There is no way industrialisation will flourish without good roads. The government is also investing in roads, rail, power, healthcare, education and digital infrastructure.

“This corridor was underdeveloped for years, despite its central role in the Abuja master plan. Today, that narrative has changed.

“This road will ease traffic congestion around Central Abuja and improve connectivity to developing districts.

“It will stimulate housing and business growth while serving as a foundation for future city integration.”

President Tinubu urged residents and stakeholders to take ownership of the new road and preserve it as a community asset.

He said: “The road belongs to the community and citizens of Abuja and us as the federal government. I urge you to protect it and use it wisely.”

The President thanked the FCT community for its cooperation during the road construction, including those who were relocated to make way for the project.

He said: “Thank you very much for the cooperation. We thank the Minister of FCT too for relocating your community with peace and good compensation.”

    Wike: coalition killed

Wike said President Tinubu’s infrastructural development has killed the coalition moves by the opposition.

He vowed to continue to support Tinubu’s Administration.

Wike said: “Some people, whatever you do, will not be happy; many of them were born not to be happy.

“Under Tinubu, contractors now have confidence in the government. Your good work has killed the coalition in Nigeria.

“Mr. President, let me first of all convey the happiness and appreciation of the people of the city. I’m sure that when you came down from the vehicle, you saw how people were happily praising you.

“That’s to tell you they appreciate and recognise the good work you are doing. There are some people, whatever you do, they will never be happy.

“They were born not to be happy, and so there is nothing you can do about it. But those who appreciate, who are happy, you can see how elated they are.

“Let me let you know that this road was awarded by your administration. It is not one of those projects that were inherited.

“Having worked with you for a few years, I’ve seen how passionate you are about contracts and abandonment of contracts.

“This job was awarded by the Federal Executive Council last September, and we flagged off this project in October.

“I told the contractors, listen, I don’t want to hear complaints. Whatever it takes you to do your job, do it. If I pay you during the rainy season, you must work during the rainy season.

“If I pay you in the dry season, you must work in the dry season. I don’t want to hear that, oh, the rain was too much.

“Return the money so that we can keep it. After the rain, we can pay you. You can’t keep our money when we have paid you, then you say it is raining, no. Send our money back.”

The minister added: “I’m quite elated. Initially, I was sceptical about the contractor CGC until you appointed us sometime in August 2023.

“The road from the Presidential Villa to Asokoro, that interchange, I couldn’t believe that we can have it and it was done by the CGC. Everybody saw how that place was. So I started having that confidence in them.

“I told CGC, are you sure that Mr. President will commission this (N16) road project in his second year in office? They said yes. I said: Are you sure? They said yes.

“Should I include it as part of the project to be commissioned? They said yes. I said, see, don’t look for my problem. Now you have made a promise, you have to keep to the promise.

“Let me tell you one thing you have done Mr. President, that has created confidence in contractors today. This road stopped somewhere.

“As I speak to you now, companies and contractors are competing among themselves for us to just award the job.

“Most of them have gone and started without even giving them the initial mobilisation. That is confidence-building. And that’s what we’ve created.

“I want to thank the management of CGC. Not one contract that is awarded under the FCT would be abandoned.

“By the time you do your third year in office next year, you will see that virtually all the contracts awarded under you as the president and the chairman of the Federal Executive Council will have been completed to the glory of God, and no contractor will be left unpaid. They know that in my dictionary, there’s no variation. So if I don’t have the money, I tell them, hold on! No pressure.

“So I’m happy. This road again leads to all the judges’ quarters, the Court of Appeal, the Federal High Court, and the Federal Capital Territory High Court. By the grace of God, I don’t know the particular day where that will be commissioned. But I know that they have finished it and the judges’ quarters are almost ready.

“Your Excellency, we cannot thank you enough to have the opportunity to be part of this goings-on in the country. I hardly watched some stations but sometimes, I don’t know how spiritually I was touched to just tune and start watching. This morning, I was touched and was watching. I didn’t know that people can be in pain. I didn’t know. And now I know there are such people that are pained. My duty now is to make sure to continue to give them high blood pressure. As ‘e dey pain them, e go dey sweet us’. As e dey sweet us, e go dey pain to them. That’s my job. I’ll be happy every time, moving, laughing. And then they will be there fighting and shouting and killing themselves.

“So, Mr. President, we want to thank you that we are part of this, what is going on, the revolution that’s going on. Your good work has killed the coalition. I was thinking that truly, there would be a coalition. So, I told my people, make sure that every national television must hook in so they can see what’s happening every day.

“If they turn to ADBN, they’re watching Mr. President. If they turn to TVC, it’s Mr. President. If they go to Channels, Mr. President. If they go to NTA, Mr. President. Even the one I don’t watch, Arise, it’s Mr. President.

“So, they have no choice, and they must watch it and watch it for 17 days. There is nothing they can do.

“Sir, Abuja people say I should tell you, please, they are happy. Coalition is bound to fail, and it has failed.”

    President woos Wike to APC

President Tinubu invited Wike to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said the ruling party would welcome him into the fold with open arms because of his impressive performance as a member of FEC.

“We have somebody in Nyesom Wike. He’s not a member of my party—not yet. But the day he changes his mind and registers with the progressives, we will welcome him. Because we will enjoy him in singing, ‘as e dey pain them, e dey sweet us,’” President Tinubu said.

Wike, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, served as governor of Rivers State between 2015 and 2023. He was appointed as minister by the President in 2023.

President Tinubu has publicly showered praises on the minister for fighting the huge infrastructure deficit in Abuja.

    ‘Tinubu, a beacon of democracy’

Former House of Representatives member from Ikwuano/Umuahia South/North Constituency, Mr. Sam Onuigbo has described President Bola Tinubu as an indisputable beacon of Nigeria’s democracy.

He commended Tinubu’s bold and patriotic sacrifices during the days of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) in the fight for democratic governance.

Onuigbo said this in an interview in Abuja ahead of the Democracy Day.

The ex-rep, who is also the member representing South East in  the North East Development Commission (NEDC), lauded Tinubu for sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.

He said: “Tinubu is an indisputable beacon of democracy. He joined NADECO and made sacrifices to restore Nigeria to democracy.

“In 1999, he was elected governor of Lagos State and he brought hope and transformation through democratic leadership and positioned the state as a mega city in the whole world.”

Onuigbo said that Tinubu sustained efforts in building blocks to build democratic platforms that benefitted other states of the nation.

He said that Tinubu’s role in entrenching democratic tenets remained unequaled.

Onuigbo commended Tinubu for working tirelessly to enthrone successive democratic governments not just at the state but at the Federal level.

  • Tinubu: The difference is leadership

    Tinubu: The difference is leadership

    By Abdul’Aziz Abubakar Yari

It’s been very interesting keeping tabs on some of the conversations stoked by President Bola Tinubu’s scorecards in two years in office. The engagements have been quite entertaining to say the least. The supporters, the critics and the cynics – all have established their respective but differing positions with justification.

While one could see where a genuine critic is coming from since the basis for constructive criticism is to make one get better at what one is doing, no individual can do any good in the sight of cynics, even when in the estimation of any right-thinking person, the basis for his cynicism is flawed.

But an honest supporter, not sycophant, is the only one who will goad you on in the face of challenges, tells you what is wrong without making a public show of it and provides you the shoulder to lean on and as well guides you through the many difficult phases.

Nigeria, no doubt, is a blessed country. Her natural endowments – human and material – are almost limitless through sheer grace. Yet, she is the most difficult country to govern because of the many tendencies and palpable fault lines.

Interestingly, the last two years of President Tinubu has confirmed one thing – a long agreed problem of the country – leadership! It is the only distinguishing difference between him and many of his predecessors.

Whether you are a critic, cynic or supporter – one thing you cannot deny President Tinubu is his leadership of purpose, characterised by vision, determination and the willpower to make hard choices and to also excel where many feared to fail.

It will be foolhardy, therefore, for anyone, the supporters especially, to not admit that there’s an evident room for improvement or see that there are areas we can actually do better than we are currently doing. After all, President Tinubu didn’t create any of the problems he’s fighting hard to solve for our collective good.

Other than that, there’s no debating the fact that the last two years of his administration have birthed good for Nigeria and this is to no other factor than LEADERSHIP!

Shall I start by reminding everyone that the removal of fuel subsidy, has saved the government over $10 billion in 2023 alone? It not only reduced fiscal strain and helped to redirect funds to other sectors, it halted the inherent fraud in the initiative.

By unifying the foreign exchange market and naira’s floatation aimed at addressing distortions in the currency market, it has boosted foreign reserves to $38.1 billion by 2024 and achieved a trade surplus of N18.86 trillion for the country.

Under the Tinubu administration, Nigeria’s annual inflation rate fell to 23.71% in April 2025 from 24.23% in the preceding month. The most significant component of the inflation basket remained elevated but moderated to 21.26% from 21.79%

These figures signify stabilisation, albeit as a process, the immediate impact has been pivotal, too. The government’s cash transfer programme, which provides funds to the poorest households and benefits over 5.7 million households, is one outreach that even the enemies cannot down play.

The Tinubu administration, as it currently stands, has recorded over 900,000 beneficiaries in the Presidential Loan and Grant Scheme; there’s been over 600,000 beneficiaries of the Students’ Loan Scheme, NELFUND; N70,000 minimum wage, and the NYSC monthly stipend increase from N33,000 to N77,000.

The free CNG kits distributed to thousands of commercial drivers across Nigeria with CNG buses rolled out in partnership with state governments, have led to a major drop in transport costs.

The President Tinubu administration also cleared over $10 Billion FX debt, federal account allocation to states growing by 60%, enabling more local development projects, N50 billion released to end the perennial ASUU strikes, and over 1,000 PHCs revitalised nationwide with an additional 5,500 undergoing upgrades.

So far, the administration has disbursed N75 Billion in palliative funds to states and LGs for food distribution and cash transfers. Over 150,000 youths are being trained in software development, tech support and data analysis under the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) project.

Also,  over 20,000 affordable housing units under construction in the Renewed Hope Cities programme launched across Nigeria, with N200 billion in Loans to farmers and agro-processors.

Speaking further to facts and figures, over two million Nigerians are now connected to new digital infrastructure and community broadband hubs and public WiFi projects, 3.84% GDP growth in Q4 2024 (highest in 3 years).

Over $50 Billion in new FDI Commitments, Net Foreign Exchange Reserves up from $3.99 Billion (2023) to $23.11 Billion (2024), over $8 Billion in new oil and gas investments unlocked, and over $800 million realised in processing investments in solid minerals in 2024 and inflation as of April was down to 23.17%. These are statistics.

In enforcing fiscal discipline, the administration has reduced the nation’s fiscal deficit from 5.4% of GDP in 2023 to 3.0% in 2024, and the debt service-to-revenue ratio dropped from nearly 100% in 2022 to under 40% by 2024.

The government also recorded over N6 trillion in revenue in Q1 2025, partly due to removing Ways & Means financing and fuel subsidies. These have not only shown fiscal discipline, they have become some tangible reliefs for the Nigerian people.

The administration is not oblivious of the scourge called corruption and has taken steps against it, including suspending former Humanitarian Affairs Minister, Betta Edu, in January 2024, over alleged fund diversion, signalling some commitment to accountability.

Tinubu woos Wike, says APC will welcome ex-Rivers governor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday extended an open invitation to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), praising his performance in office and declaring that Wike would be welcomed with open arms.

President Tinubu also recommitted his administration to sustained investment in infrastructure, declaring that no amount of political pressure or opposition will derail his development agenda under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We have somebody in Nyesom Wike. He’s not a member of my party — not yet. But the day he changes his mind and registers with the progressives, we will welcome him. Because we will enjoy him in singing, ‘as e dey pain them, e dey sweet us”, Tinubu said during the commissioning of the Arterial Road N16 in Katampe District, Abuja

The lighthearted yet politically charged remark came as the President formally inaugurated the completed stretch of Shehu Shagari Way, linking the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway to Wole Soyinka Way through Katampe and adjoining districts.

The project, which includes a major interchange and access roads, is part of the Abuja Master Plan and had stalled for years before being revived under Wike’s leadership.

Tinubu emphasised that his government will continue to prioritize service delivery and national development over political grandstanding.

“We will continue to build, we will continue to serve the people, no matter how much the naysayers pursue their politics,” the President said. “We did not ignore this project. We did not worry about protests. The government has played its part.”

President Tinubu hailed the completion of the project as a milestone that goes beyond physical construction.

“This project represents more than a stretch of asphalt, it affirms our commitment to urban transformation under our Renewed Hope Agenda. What was once missing as a link is now a modern, functional and durable infrastructure”, he said.

He praised Minister Wike’s leadership and collaborative approach in delivering the project.

“Once again, I commend the Honorable Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, and his team. He could not achieve this alone without your collaboration as a team builder, a team player. You have proved that teamship is the hallmark of good leadership,” Tinubu said.

The President reiterated his administration’s broader vision to deploy infrastructure as a tool for national growth, social inclusion, and economic transformation.

“Infrastructure is not a luxury, it is a necessity. It is the bedrock of national competitiveness, growth, social integration and economic opportunity”, he stressed.

Tinubu noted that Nigeria’s future lies in its ability to connect cities, communities, and industries with world-class infrastructure.

“There is no way industrialization will flourish without good roads,” he said, adding that the government is also investing in “roads, rail, power, healthcare, education and digital infrastructure.”

Since assuming office in May 2023, the Tinubu administration has pursued a strategy rooted in reform and regeneration.

According to the President, Wednesday’s commissioning is tangible proof that the strategy is yielding results.

“This corridor was underdeveloped for years, despite its central role in the Abuja master plan. Today, that narrative has changed. This road will ease traffic congestion around Central Abuja and improve connectivity to developing districts. It will stimulate housing and business growth, while serving as a foundation for future city integration”, he said.

President Tinubu also called on residents and stakeholders to take ownership of the new road and preserve it as a community asset.

“The road belongs to the community and citizens of Abuja and us as the federal government. I urge you to protect it and use it wisely,” he said.

The President closed his remarks by thanking the FCT community for their cooperation during the road construction, including those who were relocated to make way for the project.

“Thank you very much for the cooperation. We thank the Minister of FCT too for relocating your community with peace and good compensation,” he noted.

As he formally declared the road commissioned, President Tinubu once again reaffirmed the central mission of his administration: “To the glory of God, I declare this road commissioned for the benefit of humanity. May God bless Abuja Capital Territory, bless Nigeria, and keep our troops safe.”

Meanwhile, speaking earlier, the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, said President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructural development has killed the coalition moves by the opposition.

He vowed to continue to support Tinubu’s administration.

He stated, “Some people, whatever you do, will not be happy; many of them were born not to be happy.”

“Under Tinubu, contractors now have confidence in the government. Your good works have killed the coalition in Nigeria. Mr. President, let me first of all convey the happiness and appreciation of the people of the city. I’m sure that when you came down from the vehicle, you saw how happy people were praising you.

  • Tinubu-Sanwo-Olu reconciliation: President an exemplary father, says Idimogu

Tinubu-Sanwo-Olu reconciliation: President an exemplary father, says Idimogu

A former Lagos lawmaker, Jude Idimogu, has described President Bola Tinubu as an exemplary father, following his reconciliation with his political godson, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

It will be recalled that several rep[orts pointed at the rift between Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State governor, over some matters.

A video showing the President snubbing the governor at a public function also went viral, affirming sharp differences between the duo.

But, the exact cause of the feud between them remained a subject of conjecture.

However, on Sunday, the Governor Advisory Council (GAC) led the governor to broker a truce.

During the meeting in Lagos with the President, GAC Chairman, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, who welcomed Tinubu to Lagos, pleaded with him to forgive anyone who might have offended him, especially the governor.

Responding, the President reportedly declared, “It’s all over now. All is forgiven.”

Idimogu, a deputy leader of Ndigbo in Lagos APC, said on Wednesday that the President had shown examples for others to follow, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The President Bola Tinubu has shown up again as an exemplary father in this matter, not minding whatever that might have gone wrong between him and the performing Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

“This shows truly that Asiwaju is a great leader with a large heart. The President as a leader is humane and God-fearing.

“Using the opportunity and essence of Eid-Kabir celebration to forgive and reconcile with his political godson, Sanwo-Olu tells us that the President is god- fearing.

“Mr President, we thank you for welcoming back your political godson. Whatever that might have caused this disharmony would not arise again,” Idimogu said.

The former lawmaker said that now that the rift was over, the governor’s mind would be at rest to continue working and make life better for the residents of Lagos.

“We must also commend Sanwo-Olu’s rare humility and tenderness. The governor has been soft spoken, intelligent, quiet, and he has been doing well excellently.

“Sanwo-Olu has the fear of God and whatever offences he might have committed cannot be deliberate.

“Sometimes, we don’t know when we offend people but when we get to know, a good leader must apologise. I am happy he did.

“We must put this behind us and move forward as we approach the 2027 election which the President will win by the Grace of God,” he added.

Idimogu reiterated his strong conviction that Tinubu would emerge victorious in 2027 for second tenure no matter the collusion, alliances and coalition of opposition parties.

“He (Tinubu) is appointed by God to repair Nigeria and we know God wants him there.

“He will finish his second term strong and in good health in the interest of all Nigeria,” he said.

Idimogu called on the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC) led by Prince Tajudeen Olusi, for stepping in to find solutions to the problem in wisdom.

He commended Lagos State APC leaders for having a good mechanism to always resolve issues internally without allowing it to degenerate.

He called on Nigerians especially the Northern leaders to support the President.

Idimogu prayed to God to give the President long life, strength and wisdom to steer the ship of the country to restoration.

According to him, the President has been doing his best to reposition the country and his efforts have been yielding results for the country.

Similarly, Idimogu urged the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, to also forgive whoever had offended him in the recent saga in the House.

He said that this was important to move the state forward without inheritance.

“To err is human. We offend God and he forgives us of all our sins always, and grants us many more opportunities,” he added.

June 12: Bode George urges Tinubu to reinstate Fubara

Former PDP Deputy National Chairman Chief Bode George has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to, in the spirit of the June 12 anniversary, reinstate suspended Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers.

George made the appeal on Wednesday in an open letter to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the June 12, 1993 election.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN)reports that the  presidential election  was won by  late Chief M.K.O. Abiola, but was  annulled on June 23, 1993 by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida,

NAN  recalls that Fubara was suspended by Tinubu on March 18 due to political tensions in the oil-rich  state.

Meanwhile, Fubara visited Tinubu in Lagos during Sallah celebration.

George said: “If Tinubu could forgive Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, then he should extend same gesture to Fubara.

“On June 12, we will be celebrating Democracy Day. This is a reminder of the true meaning of democracy – the will of the people.

“Since Tinubu has forgiven Sanwo-Olu, then it makes a lot of sense, spiritually, to also forgive Fubara and let him return to office. I am talking as an elder”,he said.

George noted that  Tinubu was in the forefront of those who fought the military, seeking a return to civilian rule.

The PDP chieftain said Tinubu was passionate about returning to civil rule during the military era, aspiring for top political positions in Lagos.

“He later joined NADECO to fight for democracy. Some of those who fought alongside him for democracy have died. It is not of his making that he is alive today.

“So, he should thank God, honour the memory of those who fought alongside him for democracy and return Fubara to office immediately.

“I also appeal to him, in the spirit of my maternal grand uncle who founded the first political party in Nigeria in 1922, Herbert Macaulay, to please reinstate Fubara.

“Tinubu should listen to, and honour this appeal in memory of all those who died in the journey to our democracy,” George said.

  • Tinubu calls on African nations to adopt policies that promote eco-friendly tourism

Tinubu calls on African nations to adopt policies that promote eco-friendly tourism

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Wednesday, called on African countries to adopt policies that promote eco-friendly tourism and preserve cultural heritage across the continent.

The president made the call in Abuja while declaring open the 68th meeting of the UN Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF).

Tinubu also charged the continent to come up with practical solutions and alliances that would boost investment in tourism infrastructure, deepen the sector’s role in actualising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on the African continent.

He said the target is to make sure Africa becomes the heart of global discourse in terms of how to harness tourism’s full potential to boost the continent’s economy.

Tinubu, who was represented at the event by his deputy, Vice President Kashim Shettima, declared Nigeria’s support for adopting sustainable tourism practices across Africa, which he said reflect the continent’s unique challenges.

He said, “By collaborating with regional bodies, such as the African Union, ECOWAS and UN Tourism, Nigeria encourages other African nations to adopt policies promoting eco-friendly tourism and preserving cultural heritage.

“This collaboration includes sharing best practices, tourism training, developing joint marketing campaigns for sustainable tourism and improving infrastructure to support intra-African travel. Through these regional initiatives, Africa can foster a continent-wide movement toward tourism that benefits both the people and the environment, driving long-term prosperity for Africa.”

Tinubu pointed out that tourism goes beyond “travelling or visiting historic sites, waterfalls, mountains, and parks,” just as he maintained that the sector “is an engine of local economies, a catalyst for social understanding, and a bridge that unites cultures.

“The advent of technology and creativity has transformed tourism and its opportunities. Therefore, it is appropriate that this conference highlight the impact of AI, Innovation, and Creative Industries on the tourism sector,” he added.

Highlighting the role of Nigeria’s creative industries in global tourism, which encompass music, film, fashion, literature and digital arts, President Tinubu said the sector has “emerged as a powerful driver of economic growth, making significant contributions to the country’s GDP, job creation and economic diversification.

“Nigeria’s Nollywood is one of the largest film industries in the world, generating substantial revenue from domestic and international markets. Similarly, the music and fashion industries have propelled Nigeria’s global cultural influence and generated income and employment opportunities,” he further stated.

“As we chart a new course for tourism in Africa, one thing is clear: the government cannot build the sector alone. It needs a partnership with the private sector. The sector’s growing complexity and opportunities demand this strategic partnership.”

While declaring the regional meeting open, the Nigerian leader implored participants “to focus on practical solutions and collaborative strategies that will strengthen intra-African travel, boost investment in tourism infrastructure, empower local communities, and deepen tourism’s role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and making African tourism the heart of the global conversation.”

Earlier, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, in her speech, urged African nations to leverage innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), and creative industries to unlock the continent’s vast potential in global tourism.

Expressing her deep conviction in President Tinubu’s vision for Nigeria, Musawa stated, “I am passionate about Nigeria and the mission and commitment of President Tinubu. I believe in it because of his vision for Nigeria, which I believe will enable the country to take a seat in the comity of global nations as a developed nation. I pray the same for every African nation, and urge us all to rise together.”

The minister noted that President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” is the guiding principle for Nigeria’s sectoral transformation, emphasising that “Africa stands at the forefront of change. The 21st century demands that we build economies not just from the ground but on people-powered prosperity, through tourism, culture, the creative economy and the arts.”

Musawa said the event’s theme, “Boosting Social Impact and Education in Tourism via Innovation, AI, and Creative Industries in Africa,” highlights that the future of Africa’s prosperity depends on how boldly and broadly it uses technology to empower people.

She pointed out that while the global industry is valued at over $11 trillion, Africa accounts for less than 5% of global tourism revenue and under 1% of global creative exports. “This is not a deficit or talent scarcity. Today, Nigeria invites Africa to close that gap,” she said.

On his part, the Secretary-General of UN Tourism, Amb. Zurab Pololikashvi commended the Tinubu administration for supporting the transformation of the tourism industry in Nigeria, which, according to him, will impact the rest of Africa.

Underscoring tourism as the future of Africa, he said the continent is indeed the new frontier in world tourism, given its huge potential and limitless opportunities for innovation and creativity.

Amb. Pololikashvi urged leaders on the continent to address issues related to connectivity across the region by reviewing existing visa regimes in a bid to ease the movement of tourists across Africa and beyond.

On her part, the Senator representing the FCT at the National Assembly, Sen. Ireti Kingibe, encouraged stakeholders across Africa to think boldly, as Africa is not just participating in the digital future of tourism.

She said Africa is shaping the digital future of tourism and Nigeria, with immense creativity and cultural wealth, stands ready to lead, adding that the culture and resilience of Africans, when combined with emerging technology such as AI and immersive media, can redefine Africa, especially how it is experienced, studied and valued.

“Today’s gathering is an opportunity to amplify the stories of home-grown innovations that attract tourists from the grassroots to the global stage. Let us use this space to exchange best practices, build cross-border collaborations and generate actionable strategies that place communities, especially women and youths, at the heart of our development agenda,” she added.

2027: Anti-Tinubu’s coalition will fail, Wike declares

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the viability of any coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, saying it is “bound to fail.”

Wike made the remarks on Wednesday during the inauguration of Arterial Road N16 to Arterial Road N20 and other key roads in the Katampe District of Abuja.

According to the former Rivers State governor, the President’s performance has effectively dismantled any serious opposition alliance.

“Your good work has killed the coalition. I was thinking that, truly, there would be a coalition. The coalition is bound to fail, and it has failed,” Wike said.

He also thanked President Tinubu for approving a 10-day window for project commissioning across the FCT, a gesture he described as a strong endorsement of infrastructural development in the capital.

June 12: Tinubu a beacon of Nigeria’s democracy – Onuigbo

Former House of Representatives member for Ikwuano/Umuahia South/North, Sam Onuigbo, has described President Bola Tinubu as an indisputable beacon of Nigeria’s democracy.

He commended President Tinubu’s bold and patriotic sacrifices during the days of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) in the fight for democratic governance.

Onuigbo said this in an interview in Abuja ahead of Democracy Day, slated for June 12 (tomorrow).

The ex-rep, who is also the member representing South East in the North East Development Commission (NEDC), lauded Tinubu for sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.

He said, “Tinubu is an indisputable beacon of democracy. He joined NADECO in making sacrifices for Nigeria to restore democracy.

“In 1999, he was elected governor of Lagos State, and he brought hope and transformation through democratic leadership and positioned the state as a megacity in the whole world.”

Onuigbo said that Tinubu sustained efforts in building blocks to build democratic platforms that benefited other states of the nation.

He said that Tinubu’s role in entrenching democratic tenets remained unequalled.

Onuigbo commended Tinubu for working tirelessly to enthrone successive democratic governments not just at the state level but at the federal level.

“This is a man who worked for the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari and some state governors and patiently waited till 2023 to ascend the presidency,” he stated.

The former federal lawmaker urged the Southeast in particular, and Nigerians at large, to ensure continuity by re-electing Tinubu in 2027.

He expressed satisfaction with Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying they are hinged on enduring and long-term effects.

Onuigbo, who reiterated the need for Tinubu’s re-election, said it was necessary for him to continue his good works.

He explained that the removal of fuel subsidy was now yielding results, with increased revenue being injected into the economy.

Onuigbo expressed gratitude to Tinubu for creating the South East Development Commission (SEDC) aimed at addressing the devastation of the civil war.

He described SEDC as a panacea to age-long-standing marginalisation of the Southeast since the civil war.

The lawmaker, however, advised the leadership of SEDC to judiciously manage their resources to develop the zone.

He added: “There is a need to reposition our agriculture, and a need for an integrated railway line for the entire Southeast to boost commercial and entrepreneurial activities.”
