Let your results speak for you, Tinubu urges Governors

President Bola Tinubu has called on the 36 Governors to focus on delivering tangible results to their people, asserting that performance, not popularity, is the true test of leadership.

Speaking during a two-day working visit to Katsina State, the President charged Governors to “let the people be at the heart of your programmes,” while dismissing distractions from what he termed “armchair critics.”

“Your hard work and concrete achievements will answer any criticism. Ignore distractions — your results will speak for you,” Tinubu stated at the commissioning of major infrastructure projects.

Among the projects unveiled during the visit was the 24-kilometre Eastern Bypass Road, which stretches from Dutsin-ma Road through Kano and Daura Roads to Yandaki in Kaita Local Government Area. The project was completed in just 18 months under the administration of Governor Dikko Radda.

Tinubu also inaugurated the Katsina Agricultural Mechanised Centre, a key initiative aimed at boosting farming productivity and transforming agriculture in the state.

Commending Governor Radda’s performance across sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and infrastructure, Tinubu said, “Significant progress has been made in less than two years.”

The President acknowledged the insecurity challenges facing the region but praised the Katsina governor’s courage and resilience. “We have decided for peace and stability. I know you face terrorism and banditry attacks in the state, but you have shown determination and courage to move Katsina State forward. You will not walk alone. The Federal Government will be with you,” he assured.

Tinubu emphasised that hunger and poverty remain the most urgent threats to national stability, underscoring his administration’s commitment to agricultural development. “The economy is sailing in the right trajectory. We are witnessing an effort to banish hunger. Small and large-scale farming will be encouraged. Once we liberate ourselves from hunger, we will appreciate peace and harmony,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of adopting modern methods, the President stated: “The old style of agriculture is gone. We must invest in mechanisation and water management. Agriculture is the heart of our progress and must be for all.”

He also revealed plans to revive the Bank of Agriculture to provide accessible financing for farmers across Nigeria. “The Bank of Agriculture is being revitalised. When resuscitated, the bank will make funds available for large, medium and small-scale farming,” he said.

Calling on other States to follow Katsina’s lead, Tinubu noted: “You have introduced a great, progressive movement in Katsina State by just tilling the land and putting it to use. Farming will be our source of prosperity and growth. We must remove ourselves from reliance on oil and commit to agriculture.”

He concluded his visit by thanking former governors Ibrahim Shema and Aminu Bello Masari, along with other political leaders in the state, for their warm reception and continued contributions.

“Thank you for the great honour you have given me. Your coming to the airport to receive me made me feel so welcome. I am your son, and I am one of you. This is homecoming, and Katsina is home — home to progress, development, and freedom for good,” Tinubu said.

Tinubu vows security overhaul to reclaim forests from bandits

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed commitment to investing in advanced technology to reclaim ungoverned spaces, particularly forests, from terrorists and bandits, pledging a coordinated response involving all tiers of government.

Speaking during a State dinner hosted in his honour at the Government House in Katsina on Friday night, the President declared that enhanced surveillance and security technologies would be deployed to neutralize threats in rural and forested regions across the country.

He emphasised the persistent insecurity in parts of the country, particularly the Northwest, was not only a local or regional matter but a national concern that required a united front involving federal, state, and local governments.

According to a statement on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said technological solutions would play a key role in dismantling criminal strongholds and restoring confidence among investors.

Tinubu acknowledged that security remains one of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges, noting that without addressing it comprehensively, economic growth and foreign investment would remain elusive.

He explained that banditry and terrorism have created an atmosphere of fear that deters both local and international investors, describing investment as “cowardly” in the face of persistent violence.

Earlier in the day, the President addressed troops and personnel of the armed forces during his two-day working visit to the state, assuring them of full government support in the ongoing fight against insurgents and criminal groups.

The President’s visit to Katsina, one of the states most affected by rural insecurity, comes amid growing calls for decisive federal action to curb attacks on farming communities and transport routes.

“On the issue of security raised by former Governor Aminu Bello Masari again this evening, yes, I agree that security is a challenge for the country. I addressed the men and women of the armed forces earlier today and assured them that we will do everything to fight terrorism and banditry.

“We will invest more in technology and take over the forests. Security is a national issue, not just at the local or regional levels. If we genuinely need investment in Nigeria, we must address security.

“Investment is cowardly, and it will not go where there is banditry and terrorism. We will solve the problem together with the states and local councils,” he said.

Tinubu highlighted encouraging signs of economic recovery, attributing recent positive growth indicators to bold policy decisions.

The President said the Federal Government will consider upgrading the airport in Katsina State to create jobs and expand the economy.

Tinubu also assured that victims of terrorism will receive support to pick up their lives.

The President thanked Aminu Bello Masari for his role in ensuring that he got the endorsement of the North West and emerged as the APC presidential candidate.

The President also thanked the Governors who honoured the invitation of their Katsina counterpart Radda for the commissioning of projects and his daughter’s wedding.

The Governors were those of Kaduna, Jigawa, Borno, Benue, Yobe, Sokoto and Kwara States.

Tinubu acknowledged the leadership roles of Katsina indigenes and described President Muhammadu Buhari as a man of integrity who contributed significantly to Nigeria’s development.

In a bid to boost morale and foster goodwill, renowned Hausa musician Dauda Kahutu Rarara delivered a captivating performance of his latest song “Omo Ologo” (Child of Glory) in honor of President Bola Tinubu during his two-day working visit to Katsina state.

The visit, which aimed to address the rising insecurity and launch development initiatives in the region, saw Tinubu engage with stakeholders and local leaders on key issues affecting the state.

Katsina, a state that has been grappling with banditry and kidnappings, has been in dire need of effective security measures and economic stimulus.

During his visit, President Tinubu commissioned the new Katsina Agricultural Mechanised Centre, a project aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and creating jobs for the teeming youth population.

  • Labelling Tinubu’s administration ‘Yoruba government’ attempt to scuttle second term – Afenifere

Labelling Tinubu’s administration ‘Yoruba government’ attempt to scuttle second term – Afenifere

The National Organising Secretary of the Pan Yoruba Socio Political Organisation Afenifere Abagun Kole Omololu has said labelling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led administration ‘Yoruba government’ by some was to stir embers of division among Nigerians to deny the President a second term in office.

He said the Tinubu’s government is not running a Yoruba government but an all inclusive administration.

A statement by the Afenifere chieftain said Tinubu did not became President by tribal inheritance but by democratic choice through result of votes by Nigerians of every tongue, creed and religion.

According to him, to label Tinubu’s administration as “Yoruba” is not only dishonest but a vile act of tribal opportunism.

He said: “When President Muhammadu Buhari held office for eight years, no one branded his leadership as a “Fulani government. No tribal coalition was formed to deny him a second term on the grounds of ethnicity.

“He was allowed to serve out his mandate in full and rightly so. The same principle of equity and continuity must apply now. Let no one demand justice only when it suits them, but deny it when it is owed to others.”

He stated thad Tinubu shall be re-elected as by Nigerians under the watch of the Constitution.

“Nigeria is not a personal or tribal empire. Our nation will not bow to tribal blackmail. It will not bend to invented narratives. And it will not break under the weight of conspiracy. Let all patriots rally to the defence of truth, justice, and constitutional order. Let us remember that nations fall not only when tanks roll through streets but also when lies, repeated often enough, begin to sound like truth.

“We have come too far to be dragged backward by petty ambition disguised as activism. Let us reject the agents of sabotage not because they threaten one man, but because they threaten all of us.

“We have taken due note of the recent expose by Dr. Sandra Duru, detailing her conversation with the suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, particularly her shocking admission of a clandestine plot to sabotage the administration of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which the conspirators have stereotyped as a “Yoruba government,” and thereby stir the embers of division to deny him a second term.

“This is no light accusation. It is a revelation that demands reflection from patriots and repudiation from all who still hold Nigeria dear.”

He saluted Duru for her uncommon courage for speaking truth not only to power but to conspiracy.

“Her voice is a reminder that integrity still walks among us, and that silence, in the face of wickedness, is not an option for those who love this country.

“Furthermore, we condemn in the strongest terms the campaign of calumny and false allegations against the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio a man whose only crime, it appears, is that he dares to cooperate and collaborate with the President in the spirit of statesmanship and progress.

“We reject the weaponisation of false allegations as political tools especially when such weapons are aimed at innocent men, families and private lives.

“Politics has its place but it must never trespass the boundaries of human decency. To smear a man’s name, fabricate charges, and unleash innuendo on his children, his home, and his honour that is not politics. That is malice in its rawest form.

“We strongly decry the internationalisation of fabricated domestic issues by those who authored the falsehood in the first place. This is akin to setting fire to your own seat in a cinema and running out crying “Fire! Fire!” not out of alarm, but out of selfish ambition.

“It is selfishness that seeks to burn down the image of the nation to satisfy the ego of one person who believes that except she has her way, the country should not have peace.”

  • Dr John Ekundayo’s mirror on Tinubu’s trajectory to Nigeria’s presidency (1)

Dr John Ekundayo’s mirror on Tinubu’s trajectory to Nigeria’s presidency (1)

Nigeria’s 2023 general elections was one of the most critical, eventful and competitive contests in the country’s electoral history. It was a contest in which the the country’s three major ethnic groups, the Hausa-Fulani, Igbo and Yoruba, had three formidable candidates in the race – now President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abubakar Atiku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP). President Tinubu ‘s tortuous and epochal path to his eventual victory presents a vivid scenario where reality unfolding before our very eyes often seemed stranger than fiction.

His path was laden with mines. Granite boulders were hauled in his path by forces determined to abort what the tenacious political gladiator obviously saw as his manifest historical destiny. A number of books have already been written on Tinubu’s singleminded pursuit of his purpose, his deft side stepping of booby traps and delicate manouvering to dodge poisonous arrows aimed at destabilizing, knocking him off course and  cutting short his dream. And many works both on the historic contest and the man, Tinubu, by contemporary and future writers from diverse specializations and perspectives will continue to be turned out.

Not many analysts can confidently and honestly aver that they envisaged Tinubu’s victory both at the APC presidential primaries and the election proper on February 27, 2023. But in his book on the election titled ‘Tinubu: Trajectory to the throne’, published in 2022, a year before the election, Dr John M. O. Ekundayo, obviously wrote with the confident expectation that the incumbent President would prevail in the fierce battle. Spanning 262 pages, the book is divided into three major parts, which are further subdivided into 25 chapters and seven annexures. Given the author’s variegated educational background, cross-cutting, disciplinary intellectual nurturing and enriching professional experience, it is not surprising that he brings fresh and unique perspectives to bear on his interrogation of what he calls ‘Tinubu’s trajectory to the throne’.

This book is part historical narrative of the various events, incidents and episodes culminating in Tinubu’s eventual electoral triumph; it is part political analyses which x-rays the assorted political factors, variables and dynamics at play in the diverse power struggles in which Tinubu has been involved in his political career and evolution; it is part psychological investigation of the kind of steely disposition and determined mindset that propelled and motivated Tinubu to victory against phenomenal odds; it is part study of organizational politics and dynamics particularly with regard to Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007, a period that was a critical phase in Tinubu’s systematic political evolution; it is part philosophical dilation on the purpose and essence of leadership and also part audacious spiritual, prophetic projection of a Tinubu victory that the author envisaged but which had not manifested at the time he was setting down his thoughts in writing.

The author, Dr Ekundayo, obtained a B.Sc degree in Civil engineering from the then then University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU and holds Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Organizational leadership from universities in Singapore and Malaysia. His academic interest in the dynamics of leadership -follower relationship substantially informs his study of President Tinubu’s politics and leadership and makes this book a unique intellectual offering and not another hagiogaphic sycophancy. Although a serious and rigorous work particularly in the essentially theoretical first part, Dr Ekundayo writes in the breezy, readable style of a seasoned columnist. His scientific cast of mind is evident in his clinical systematization and methodical dissection of his subject matter.

In the first two chapters of the book, Ekundayo explores various definitions of leadership while systematically guiding the reader through the assorted leadership models and styles identified in the literature on organizational and managerial leadership. These leadership typologies he discusses include transformational leadership, teansactional leadership, exemplary leadership, servant leadership, and situational leadership. He then goes on to focus on the elements of strategic leadership offering enriching insights into the processes of developing and nurturing appropriate driving visions on the part of leaders, motivating followers, charting a steady course, setting and achieving set targets, the essential nuggets of strategic planning and the psychological dimensions of organizational and political leadership.

Examining leadership as a dialectical “relationship between those who aspire to lead and those who choose to follow, he succinctly defines leadership as “the process of influencing and facilitating an individual or group, within a context, to understand what what needs to be done to accomplish a mutual goal”. In the words of the author, one of the aims of the book is to provide “a window to learning strategic leadership as simplified and exemplified in practice by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in steering the ship of State in Lagos, especially in the adept and adroit manner he employed and exploited a robust combination of financial engineering and information communication technology (ICT) to shore up the economy of Lagos”. This theoretical framework offers the context within which the author goes on to examine in the book Tinubu’s navigation of the delicate pathway of power and politics in Nigeria’s complex polity.

Tinubu administration not ‘Yoruba government’, says Afenifere

Pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has rejected the tagging of the administration of President Bola Tinubu as a ‘Yoruba government.’

It said the administration remained a Nigerian government that did not ascend to the presidency by tribal inheritance but by democratic choice.

Afenifere said Tinubu emerged from votes cast in faith by Nigerians of every tongue, creed, and religion.

It noted that to ‘label this administration as “Yoruba” and weaponize that label as grounds for sabotage is not only dishonest, but a vile act of tribal opportunism and sedition. We reject it utterly.’

National Organising Secretary of Afenifere, Abagun Kole Omololu, in a statement, said the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari was not branded a “Fulani government,” adding that no tribal coalition was formed to deny Buhari a second term on the grounds of ethnicity.

The statement hailed Dr. Sandra Duru for speaking truth to conspiracy. Her voice is a reminder that integrity still walks among us, and that silence, in the face of wickedness, is not an option for those who love this country.

Afenifere condemned what it termed campaign of calumny and false allegations against President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

He declared that in no distant time, the gains would begin to manifest for the citizens’ good and the good of the nation.

Mohammed stated these yesterday in Benin in his speech to NABTEB’s staff to commemorate Workers’ Day.

He said: “Dear colleagues in the noble workforce of our great nation, it is with a heart full of gratitude for the work you have done and optimism in the awesome work you will continue to do for our nation, that I and the management of NABTEB felicitate you.

“I like you to know that today, as always, you are the bedrock of NABTEB – and the bedrock of any organisation (that is, the team) is its individuals. We will not bow to fear, terror, Tinubu warns

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has warned Nigeria “will not bow—not to fear, not to terror, and not to treachery.”

His warning comes amid ongoing attacks by terrorists and bandits in the North-Central and Northeast regions, including recent waves of violence in Plateau and Benue States that have left scores dead and thousands displaced.

Addressing frontline troops in Katsina State on Friday during a morale-boosting visit, Tinubu emphasised that the enemies of Nigeria, whether “domestic collaborators or foreign agents,” would not succeed in breaking the nation’s resolve.

“To those who seek to destabilise our nation, be they domestic collaborators or foreign agents—hear this: Nigeria will not bow. Not to fear. Not to terror. Not to treachery,” the President declared.

His remarks followed recent statements by Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia, who alleged that foreign mercenaries were responsible for repeated attacks on Benue communities, echoing a growing concern about the transnational dimension of insecurity in the region.

In his address to the troops stationed in the front lines of Katsina, Tinubu praised the Armed Forces as the “shield of Nigeria” and honored their sacrifices in the face of persistent threats.

“You are the brave sons and daughters who stand between our people and the forces of terror. Every inch of ground you hold, every terrorist you neutralise, and every community you secure is a victory for justice, freedom, and the future of our children,”he said.

The President emphasised that the battle against insecurity is not merely a territorial contest, but “a battle for the soul of Nigeria.”

He hailed the military’s resilience and described their patriotism as “the highest form,” lauding their commitment to serve without expectation of material reward.

“My dear soldiers, this is a defining moment in our history. The threats of terrorism, banditry, and insurgency have persisted for too long. Nigerians are counting on us and on you to end this menace and reclaim every inch of our territory,” Tinubu charged.

He assured the troops that their welfare remained a top priority for his administration, announcing that improvements were underway in housing, healthcare, insurance coverage, family support, and prompt payment of allowances.

“We are taking bold steps to equip you with advanced equipment, superior intelligence, and robust logistical support not only to defend this nation but to dominate and defeat every adversary,” Tinubu said.

Tinubu also rallied the troops with a call to action, asking, “Let me hear you loudly: Are you ready? Are you committed to ending this insecurity once and for all? Let your resolve echo through every valley and forest.”

The President reaffirmed unwavering support for the Armed Forces, promising to match their courage with investment and leadership.

“You, the Nigerian military, are the spearhead of this fight. With your valour and discipline, peace shall prevail,” he said.

Tinubu inaugurates new boards for River Basin authorities to tackle food insecurity

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the Governing Boards and Executive Management Teams of Nigeria’s 12 River Basin Development Authorities (RBDAs) as part of efforts to combat food insecurity and drive rural development.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Abuja, was presided over by the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, who described the appointments as a significant step in advancing the government’s strategy to promote irrigated agriculture and improve water resource management.

Utsev noted that the move aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at ensuring food sustainability and inclusive development across the country.

“With this inauguration, we are unlocking the potential of the River Basin Authorities to become engines of food production, job creation, and poverty alleviation.

“The President’s approval of partial commercialisation for the RBDAs is a strategic step to attract private sector investment and improve operational efficiency,” Utsev declared.

The minister challenged the appointees to immediately begin implementing key initiatives such as the Songhai Integrated Farming Model, youth empowerment programmes, and large-scale irrigation expansion to drive all-season farming and rural economic transformation.

He urged the Boards and Executive Management to foster synergy, embrace innovation, and uphold integrity in public service, warning that performance will be closely monitored and underperforming agencies held accountable.

He said, “The Ministry is putting in place performance metrics and reward systems to ensure results. We expect nothing less than a total overhaul in how the RBDAs contribute to national development.”

On behalf of the new appointees, Chairman of the Lower Benue RBDA, Dr. Amos Yadukso, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the minister, pledging full commitment to delivering tangible results in the shortest possible time.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Richard Pheelangwah, also hailed the development, describing the retreat as a strategic milestone aimed at realigning the RBDAs with the government’s reform agenda.

The retreat continues with technical sessions on governance, funding, and implementation strategies, as the Tinubu administration intensifies efforts to harness Nigeria’s water resources for sustainable development.

  • Records on Tinubu not ready, say FBI, DEA

Records on Tinubu not ready, say FBI, DEA

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) yesterday said their searches for investigative records on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu were ongoing.

They hope to complete the process in 90 days and submit a joint report on or before July 31.

It was anticipated that the agencies would release the records today as ordered.

A United States District Court for the District of Columbia ordered both agencies to release the records following a Freedom of Information (FoI) request by an American, Aaron Greenspan.

Judge Beryl Howell on April 8 ordered the FBI and DEA to release documents connected to a 1990s investigation of a drug case that allegedly involved President Tinubu and others.

The judge rejected the agencies’ use of “Glomar response”—a legal provision allowing them to neither confirm nor deny the existence of certain records.

The court found the justification for the non-disclosure lacking in merit.

But, in a joint status report yesterday signed by Greenspan, U.S. Attorney Edward Martin, Jr. and assistant attorney M. Jared Littman, the parties stated that the report was not ready.

The joint status report proposes a schedule to govern further proceedings.

It reads: “Pursuant to the court’s order…, the FBI and DEA have initiated their searches for responsive, non-exempt, reasonably segregable portions of records requested by plaintiff and anticipate completing their searches in ninety days.

“Based on the years-long delay already caused by defendants, and the fact that many responsive documents have already been identified, plaintiff proposes that the FBI and DEA complete their searches and productions by next week, or at least that the FBI and DEA produce unredacted versions of already-identified documents by next week, and the remainder of production in 14 days.

“Defendants provide no rationale whatsoever as to why their search for documents should take 90 days.

“Plaintiff intends to request his costs (the filing fee of $402.00 and $38.22 for Certified Mail postage, for a total of $440.22).

“Defendants propose that the parties submit a joint status report on or before July 31, 2025, to apprise the court as to the status of the case following the agencies’ search for responsive, non-exempt, reasonably segregable portions of records requested by plaintiff.

“Plaintiff proposes that they submit a joint status report on or before May 31, 2025.”

The Presidency had clarified that the investigative records are not new.

Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had said there would be nothing revealing in the 30-year-old report.
