    Tinubu observes Jummah prayers at Lagos Central Mosque

    • Muslim community demands unrestricted access to Obalende Eid prayer ground

    President Bola Tinubu, yesterday, joined other Muslim faithful to observe the Jummah prayers at the Lagos Central Mosque on Nnamdi Azikiwe Street in Lagos Island.

     President Tinubu was accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamilla, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and other senior government officials, to the mosque.

     During the sermon, the Chief Imam of Lagos Central Mosque, Sheikh Suleiman Abu Na’Allah, urged the faithful to exhibit kindness to both Muslims and non-Muslims.

     He emphasized the need for Muslims to emulate the Prophet’s good character, highlighting the Prophet’s impartial treatment of individuals regardless of their status, religion, or tribe.

     The Chief Imam also stressed the importance of maintaining law and order, advocating for passion and discipline in the country.

     Prayers were offered for President Tinubu, members of his cabinet, and the nation, seeking Allah’s blessings for peace and tranquility.

     After the prayers, Alhaji Sikiru Alabi Macfoy, Bashorun Musulumi of Lagos and the Vice Executive Chairman of Lagos Central Mosque, appealed to the President to direct the authorities in Dodan Barracks to grant unrestricted access to the Obalende Eid Prayer Ground for the Jama’atul Muslimeen Council of the Lagos Central Mosque.

     Alabi-Macfoy recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari had established a Special Committee to investigate and address conflicts between the Lagos Muslim Community and Federal Government Agencies, particularly those stationed at Dodan Barracks, concerning the management and control of the land.

     The committee, led by Professor Ibrahim Gambari, concluded its assignment with a presidential directive recognizing that the Obalende Eid Prayer Ground legally belongs to the Jama’atul Muslimeen Council of the Lagos Central Mosque.

     Former President Buhari also directed an end to the desecration of the Obalende Eid Prayer Ground, stopping its profane use as a dumpsite, and ordering the removal of all containers and debris from the prayer ground.

     Acknowledging President Tinubu’s role in resolving the matter during the immediate past administration, Bashorun Musulumi of Lagos appealed for the President’s intervention to ensure that Jama’atul Muslimeen Council has full access to the prayer ground.

    Christians pray for President Tinubu at Christmas Carol

    Christians from different denominations have gathered to celebrate the Christmas season with prayers for the success of President Bola Tinubu‘s administration.

    The Annual Christmas Carol tagged: Created to Manifest His Glory, taken from Mathew 5: 15, was organised by Asiwaju Project Beyond 2023 and held recently in Ikeja Lagos.

    It featured top gospel artists who thrilled the people with melodious songs in praise to God to celebrate the Christmas season.

    Some of the artists include Evangelist Esther Igbekele, Evangelist Segun Ajidara, Omotola Jaiyeola, popularly known as Gberra, and a host of others.

    Speaking at the event, The National Women Leader of Asiwaju Project Beyond 2023, Mrs. Toyin Aroyewun, said that the carol was aimed at appreciating God for the success of the 2023 elections that led to the emergence of President Tinubu and also to commit him to God’s hand that his administration will succeed and Nigerians will be happy again.

    She said that 2023 was like a woman who was labouring, noting that the New Year 2024 will bring forth great tidings, ease, and abundant blessings from God for Nigeria.

    In his words, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Asiwaju Project 2023, Lagos State, Hon Lanre OLaide said that they gathered to celebrate “our leader and mentor, President Bola Tinubu who God has destined to be the President of this country and we are also offering praises to God to celebrate the season.”

    Olaide, the convener of the Christmas Carol said that in 2022, the group engaged in ceaseless prayers to God for President Tinubu to win the 2023 election, God answered our prayers. We are not resting on our oars but we are committing his administration to God’s hand that God will perfect everything that concerns him.

    He posited further that the group will embark on numerous humanitarian gestures to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable and hapless Nigerians at this Christmas season, appealing to Nigerians to be patient with the present administration as we will soon experience a sign of relief.

    “President Bola Tinubu has a lofty agenda that will help to address numerous challenges facing the country. I believe that as he rolls them out, things will normalise and we will all smile again”, he said.

    Traditional Rulers in Abia state on Friday, December 29, conferred on President Bola Tinubu the traditional title of Omezeri Igbo 1.

    The conferment took place at the grand civic reception for the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu and the unveiling of the Peace in the South East Project in Bende, Abia state.

    The title was recieved on his behalf by Vice President Kashim Shettima who was conferred with Enyioma Ndigbo by the chairman of the Abia state council of traditional rulers, Eze Linus Mbah. 

    The Senate president, Godswill Akpabio was also conferred with the traditional title of Dike Ndemamba. 

    Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen was given the traditional title of Onunekuroha by the traditional rulers.

    Tinubu hosts son’s family, bonds with grandchildren in Lagos

    President Bola Tinubu on Thursday, December 28, shared precious moments with his grandchildren while hosting his son, Seyi and daughter in-law, Layal at his residence in Lagos. 

    Seyi took to his Instagram account to share a video clip of their visit. 

    Captioning the post, he wrote: “Lord, we thank You for Your faithfulness and love. We praise You for all the blessings You have given us this year, both big and small.

    “We ask that You would continue to watch over us and guide us in the coming year.

    Recall that Seyi and Layal tied the knot in 2016 and their union has since then produced two kids, a girl and a boy.

    Nigeria’s progressive movement must deliver on quality education for all, jobs for youths – Tinubu

    President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, December 28, said committed to sustaining an ideologically-determined democracy, aimed at defeating poverty through the provision of job opportunities for youths and quality education for all Nigerian children.

    According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu stated this while receiving members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives’ Congress (APC) in Lagos.

    The President also expressed support for the establishment of the National Institute of Progressive Studies by the party. 

    He noted that the Institute is expected to conduct diligent research and educate all party members on the principles of democracy and good governance while providing a distinct identity for the party. 

    ”Democracy has faced challenges in the past, but I believe in a promising future for our country. We will deliver it. I am committed to supporting a strong and ideologically-determined democracy that is progressive, inclusive, and focused on eliminating poverty while providing quality education for our children. 

    ”Collaboration with various government arms is crucial, and I commend the leadership of our party for working hard to promote these essential ideals,” the President stated. 

    The President called on the leadership of the party to target more youths and women in its e-registration and digital membership validation exercise scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2024. 

    ”I stand solidly with you in the advancement of the progressive ideological stance of our party and we will pursue it with vigour,” he stated.

    President Tinubu thanked members of the party for the overwhelming show of support to him during the campaigns, the electoral victory, and with the affirmation of his presidency by the Supreme Court. 

    ”It has been a while since we have had the opportunity to come together, especially since the Supreme Court ruling. I had hoped for a gathering, but the demanding tasks of my office that we fought for have called for increased focus, dedication, and time,” the President said.

    Expressing concern on the alarming figure of out-of-school children in the country, President Tinubu declared: ”We must address this issue by establishing more schools, recruiting teachers, and providing at least one meal a day for the school children, aligning with the progressive ideology we aim to pursue.” 

    The national chairman of the All Progressives’ Congress, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje informed the President that plans are being put in place by the NWC to ensure the success of the party in the coming bye-elections into National and State legislative houses in February 2024.

    ”We assure Your Excellency that under our leadership and with your consent, strategies have been put in place to win the support of our people and secure all the seats available for the electoral contest.”

    President Tinubu spoke on Thursday, December 28, when he, alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, hosted Asisat Oshoala, Super Falcons striker and 2023 CAF Women’s Player of the Year, in Lagos.

    The moments with Oshoala was narrated in a statement by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

    President Tinubu and the First Lady had congratulated the Barcelona Femeni star on winning the best African female footballer of the year for the sixth time.

    The President and the First Lady commended Oshoala for distinguishing herself in the sport, applauding her significant contributions to women’s football on the continent.

    “Nigerian women will always have a pride of place in the world.     Cognizant of the feats of star sprinter, Tobi Amusan, and the presence of multiple Nigerian women on the Forbes’ ‘2023 World’s 100 Most Powerful Women,’ List, including media mogul, Ms. Mo Abudu, and Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the President and the First Lady assured Oshoala of the nation’s continued support for her and other Nigerian women striving for excellence in their chosen paths.

    Speaking to journalists after the warm reception, Oshoala said: ”I want to appreciate the President and the First Lady for giving me the opportunity to present the award to them. During the last World Cup, we had a couple of issues, and they intervened and have been very supportive to the girls, even after the competition.”

    Senator Ibrahim Geidam, the minister of police affairs, has expressed sympathy to the families, government, and people of Plateau State over the bandits’ Christmas Eve massacre in the state, calling it a tragedy that affects everyone.

    Noting that the heinous conduct was carried out by the nation’s adversaries, the minister stated that President Bola Tinubu has ordered that every effort be made to capture the key suspects and accomplices in this crime against humanity.

    In a statement he signed, Geidam said: “I write to express my deepest condolences, on behalf of the Ministry of Police Affairs and the entire police ecosystem, to the family, government, and the good people of Plateau State.

    “Our hearts are heavy with grief as we join you in mourning the callous and mindless killings perpetrated by heartless criminals.

    “The loss of innocent lives is a tragedy that touches us all, and we stand united with the people of Plateau State during this difficult time.

    “The actions of these enemies of the country have caused immense pain and sorrow, and we extend our sympathies to the affected families and communities.

    Nigeria is in good hands, Tinubu assures citizens

    President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, December 27, reassured Nigerians that their country is in good hands under his watch.

    President Tinubu gave the assurance at the State House in Marina, Lagos State, on Wednesday, during a town-hall meeting with traditional rulers, chairpersons of Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and other political-office holders in the state.

    According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President also said  his administration will not stop working tirelessly to revamp the nation’s economy and create viable opportunities for young people to meaningfully participate in an inclusive, labour-intensive economy where businesses can thrive.

    The president said Nigeria, under his Renewed Hope Administration, is undergoing a process of financial re-engineering and appealed to citizens to be patient and supportive of the ongoing reforms which are bound to transform the economy for the better.

    ”The financial re-engineering of our country is ongoing. We are determined to deliver Nigeria safely through the tunnel of hope, stability, and economic prosperity.

    ”Nigeria is in good hands. The team is working, and we will work hard to give you the best economy and the best opportunities that you can imagine,” the President stated.

    Acknowledging the concerns raised at the meeting, the President explained that the complexities of state matters have limited his opportunities to frequently interact with some of his long-time friends and constituents in Lagos.

    ”For those having difficulty seeing me, kindly note that this job is monumental. It is not a one-man job. It is a collective task, and you have to be able to listen, decipher, tolerate, and sometimes what you do not expect will happen.

    ”As I was getting ready this morning to come here, news of the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredeolu of Ondo came in, as well as the passing of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na’Abba.

    ”Power is transient. Only Almighty Allah gives power, and only him will take it. There is the value of life and the goodness in what we do. The salt of goodness is a multiplier of other good things that we must cherish. Not necessarily for us, but for our children and grandchildren,” the President affirmed.

    Reflecting on his tenure as the Executive Governor of Lagos State, President Tinubu recounted the challenges faced and the successes achieved at the time.

    ‘‘To turn the ship around from cascading into turbulence and making it work was not easy. But we went through it, and today, Lagos still remains the most viable state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and it will continue on the path of glory. I thank you all,’’ he concluded.

    The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, thanked President Tinubu for his leadership and for being the pathfinder of “the modern Lagos State”.

    ”The legacy and blueprint that you created more than 20 years ago and bequeathed to us is still a working and living document that will continue to guide us in delivering quality service to the people,” the Governor said. 

    In his remarks, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, called for a constitutional amendment that recognizes the role of traditional rulers.

    Oyo APC chieftain seeks support for Tinubu

    A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and the Asiwaju of Irokoland, Hakeem Alao, has urged Nigerians to continue to support and pray for the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

    He said the country would overcome its challenges with prayers and commitment.

    Alao, an engineer, said although Nigerians are passing through a lot of difficulties, they should not stop praying for the nation and its leaders.

    “In togetherness, the country will overcome the challenges,” he added.

    In a statement, Alao rejoiced with Christians in Oyo State on the occasion of Christmas, wishing them a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year in advance.

    “These are values that unify people’s common humanity in a feast of love. It is important for the people to use the season to appreciate the mercy of God on them as individuals and the country as a whole,” Alao said.
