Ex-Niger Delta agitator urges Tinubu to intervene in rivers political crisis

Former Niger Delta freedom fighter, General Endurance Amagbein, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing political dispute between Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to restore peace and unity.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Amagbein warned that the crisis could escalate if urgent steps are not taken, stressing the need for timely political reconciliation to prevent further instability.

He said the Rivers political situation has reached a stage where only President Tinubu can broker an amicable resolution that would allow the parties to reconcile and work together ahead of the 2027 elections.

Amagbein, popularly known as “Adaka Boro the Second,” also appealed to Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to set aside their differences and adopt a reconciliatory approach in resolving the crisis.

He argued that the rift is being exploited by individuals pursuing personal interests, diverting public attention and resources away from governance and development in Rivers State.

According to him, resolving the impasse would help refocus attention on critical sectors of the state and curb actions that may undermine public interest.

“Wike and Fubara should join forces to promote President Tinubu’s 2027 agenda, and not to allow crisis-mongers to destabilize Rivers State.”

“Some of these crisis mongers are not from Rivers State, but they have infiltrated the system and positioned their agents in the politics sector of Rivers State, whom they are using to add fuel to the fire.”

“It’s about time critical stakeholders stepped in to preach peace to all the parties involved in this war.”

“I also want to call on King Asari Dokubo and King Ateke Tom to be vigilant and study the situation keenly and not allow anybody from another state to destabilize their domains,” he said.

Amagbein also cautioned Ijaw youths against taking sides with either Wike or Fubara, as their differences can be resolved, but rather support the interest of Rivers State for the overall good of the people.

He said supporting one side of the divide against the other will not result in any good because the impasse is a mere misunderstanding between a father and his son.

According to him, “Some persons are planning to use this crisis as an avenue to frustrate Tinubu’s chances of winning the 2027 presidential elections in Rivers State, and so Wike and Fubara should reconcile and come to terms to put the enemies of the Tinubu Government to shame.”

Amagbein said for some people, the only way they benefit from any government is through crisis, and that is very common in Rivers State.

He said the crisis has lingered because of people who don’t mean well for both Wike and Fubara, who are close to them, giving them evil counsel, rather than preaching peace.

He also urged the Rivers State House of Assembly to give peace a chance for the overall good of the citizens.

President seeks global support to tackle climate-induced mobility

•3,500 Nigerians for repatriation from Cameroon this week

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for global collaboration to address climate-induced mobility issues.

The President noted that most of the mobility challenges emanate from droughts, floods, rising temperatures, and land degradation.

President Tinubu said climate change is undermining food security, access to water, public health, education, and decent work opportunities.

He noted that no country can address climate-induced mobility in isolation.

President Tinubu spoke yesterday at a special event on climate-induced mobility convened at the instance of the senior officials’ meeting of the Rabat Process.

The President highlighted Nigeria’s experience with severe climate shocks, including the 2022 floods that affected over 4.4 million people and displaced 2.4 million.

President Tinubu, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, listed some actions that Nigeria took to address the challenges posed by climate change.

He said: “For Nigeria, climate-induced mobility is neither abstract nor distant. It is deeply rooted in our history, geography, and lived realities. Movement has long been part of how communities adapt to environmental and economic change.

“However, the scale, frequency, and intensity of climate-related pressures in recent years have fundamentally altered this dynamic.

“Nigeria has experienced some of the most severe climate shocks in recent history. In 2022, unprecedented flooding affected over 4.4 million people nationwide, with approximately 2.4 million persons displaced across more than thirty states.

“Entire communities were submerged, several homes were destroyed or severely damaged, millions of lives and properties lost including hundreds of thousands of hectares of farmland inundated, with lasting consequences for food security and livelihoods.

“These floods were not an isolated event, as recurrent flooding has continued to displace populations in different parts of the country, disrupting livelihoods, overwhelming host communities, and placing sustained pressure on already fragile social infrastructure.”

The President announced that along Nigeria’s coastline, rising sea levels and coastal erosion threaten livelihoods, housing, and economic infrastructure.

He highlighted some efforts his administration was making to confront the challenges posed by climate change.

President Tinubu said: “We have moved from reactive approaches towards proactive climate disaster preparedness through the launch of the Global Flood Disaster Management Project (GFDMP), a multi-year initiative aimed at enhancing early warning systems, strengthening flood-resilient infrastructure, and improving disaster coordination and community engagement across Nigeria.

“Through this programme, real-time forecasting and digital alert systems are being scaled up to ensure that citizens and government agencies have the information needed to prepare for and respond to extreme weather events.”

“Equally, my government has developed the Climate-Resilient Livelihoods Empowerment Programme for Displaced Populations; CLEP4DPS – a transformative 10-year, U.S.$250 million initiative built on one revolutionary premise: economic empowerment is climate adaptation.”

Also, the Federal Commissioner at the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Tijani Ahmed, stated that over 140,000 Nigerians are living in Cameroon due to climate-induced mobility and other issues.

He said 3,500 of them would be repatriated to the country this week.

Explaining how climate change is inducing mobility, Ahmed said: “We had a very bad experience in the last four years, where we had a very serious displacement as a result of climate change.

“Not less than 6.7 million Nigerians have been displaced between 2022 and the present day due to climate change and other factors, such as banditry, Boko Haram, and farmers’ herders crises.

“We have not less than 140,000 Nigerians living in Cameroon being displaced as a result of climate change. We also have some of them in Niger and Chad. The government of Nigeria is making efforts to ensure that those who have left this country and become refugees elsewhere will be returned to the country, and as it is today. Nigeria, being led by the agency, is repatriating 3,500 individuals from Cameroon and they are on their way back to the country between now and the end of this week.”

He said the commission will soon unveil lasting solutions to cater to the needs of displaced individuals in and out of the country.

Tinubu’s ambition to build one trillion dollars digital economy not rhetoric, says Minister

The Minister of Communications, Innovations and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, on Wednesday reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of President Bola Tinubu towards building a one trillion dollars digital economy, saying that the commitment of the government was not a mere rhetoric.

Dr Tijani said President Tinubu’s administration has remained clear, consistent and deliberate about its vision of achieving shared prosperity for Nigerians, including the ambition to build a trillion dollars economy.

He said the government has within a short period built strong institutions with regulatory powers to support the commitment, stressing that the Nigerian Data Protection Commission, (NDPC) was one of such institutions with capacity for data protection and building digital trust as key pillars for Nigeria’s digital transformation and economic growth.

The Minister made the remarks on Wednesday in Abuja while delivering his address at the Global Privacy Day 2026 Press Conference, held at AATC Hotel, Abuja.

Dr Tijani commended the Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC) for its leadership in driving conversations around data privacy and protection, noting that although the Commission has existed for less than three years, it has emerged as a strong institution within government and society.

According to Dr Tijani, technology remains central to achieving the goal of a one trillion dollar economy as it enables economic growth, infrastructure development, job creation, and improved public services.

“Our responsibility at the Ministry is to ensure that digital technology serves as an enabler of shared prosperity, not just prosperity for a few, but for every Nigerian,” he said.

The minister highlighted several flagship projects under the Ministry, including the Bridge Project, which aims to deploy 90,000 kilometres of fibre optic infrastructure nationwide, and MilCAP, an agro-connectivity initiative targeting the deployment of about 4,000 telecommunications towers in rural areas.

He also disclosed plans to procure two additional communication satellites for the country through NigComSat, noting that Nigeria is currently the only country in West Africa with a functional communication satellite.

On human capital development, Dr Tijani said Nigeria runs the largest technology talent accelerator in Africa, designed to build a workforce capable of competing and creating value in the global digital economy.

However, he stressed that increased connectivity comes with increased responsibility, especially in protecting citizens’ data.

“Data protection and privacy are the foundation of trust. Without trust, our digital economy cannot succeed,” he said.

In his address, the National Commissioner/CEO of NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, outlined the achievements of the Commission within the past three years, saying over 5.2 billion naira has been generated through the Commission into government coffers.

According to him, no fewer than 23,000 jobs have been created within the data privacy ecosystem, while the value of the data protection ecosystem now peaked at about 16.2 billion naira.

He said the Commission has carried out and concluded investigations 246 data protection and privacy breaches by various institutions, while appropriate sanctions have been meted out to the affected institutions.

According to the NDPC boss, about 8155 compliance audit returns have been filed by the Commission, while training programmes have been organised for various categories of Compliance Officers across the country.

Dr Olatunji also said that the NDPC launched the Youth Data Protection Awareness & Training Program in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to empower 5,000 Nigerian youths with digital literacy and data privacy skills.

He added that more collaborations are still ongoing with the governments of Bauchi, Benue, Ondo and Ekiti states for awareness creation and training programmes on data protection and privacy.

    • …warns against sabotage

The leaders and people of Ogoniland have urged President Bola Tinubu to protect and sustain the ongoing dialogue process to restore peace to the region.

They said for the first time in many years, there is genuine hope that justice, peace, and development may finally come to our land.

The leaders said this under the auspices of Conscience of Ogoni People (COOP, formerly known as Ken Saro Wiwa Associates), a collective of concerned Ogoni sons and daughters committed to peace, justice, and long-term stability in Ogoniland and the Nigerian state,

The group expressed strong support for the ongoing Federal Government-Ogoni dialogue and peace process currently being facilitated by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

In a statement signed by its Leader and Spokesman, Chief Gani Topba, COOP, the leaders warned of any attempt to sabotage the process.

The leaders urged Tinubu to call the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike to order over alleged attempts to sabotage the ongoing dialogue aimed at resolving the decades-long Ogoni crisis.

According to the statement, the roots of the alleged sabotage lies in a long-standing compensation dispute involving the Ejama Ebubu community in Ogoni and the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), arising from environmental devastation claims successfully litigated and won by the community.

The Ogoni leaders noted that during Wike’s tenure as governor, the Rivers State Government became deeply involved in the matter, which has remained controversial and unresolved in the court of public opinion.

In a petition, the COOP urged Tinubu to mandate relevant security and intelligence agencies to investigate the allegations and prevent any actions capable of destabilising Rivers State.

They noted that the current dialogue process is worth salvaging because it “has been widely welcomed by the generality of Ogoni people as the most sincere, inclusive, and structured effort ever, which seeks to achieve: lasting peace in Ogoni, environmental remediation and restoration, economic reintegration of Ogoni into the national and gas economy, and the safe and legitimate resumption of oil production in OML II, which would significantly boost national revenue, foreign exchange earnings, energy security, and employment.”

“We also appeal to the President to ensure that no individual, regardless of status, is allowed to undermine national interest for personal or sectional gain, and to continue to support a transparent, inclusive, and lawful pathway to the resumption of oil production in Ogoniland, for the benefit of all Nigerians,” the statement said.

COOP expressed confidence that President Tinubu’s intervention at this critical moment would not only safeguard peace in Ogoniland but also reaffirm the authority of the Nigerian state and the President’s commitment to justice, national unity, and economic recovery.

…highlights Nigeria’s floods, Lake Chad crisis as proof no nation can tackle climate-induced mobility alone

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for stronger international cooperation and people-centred policies to address the rising challenge of climate-induced mobility, describing climate change as one of the most significant drivers of human movement in the world today.

The President made the call on Wednesday while delivering the opening statement at a special event on Climate-induced Mobility convened under Nigeria’s chairmanship of the Rabat Process.

The event marked Nigeria’s final official meeting as Chair and brought together senior officials and international partners to deliberate on the nexus between climate change, migration, development and security.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, President Tinubu said hosting the event at this time was both deliberate and symbolic, reflecting Nigeria’s conviction that climate change now has profound implications for peace, security, development and human dignity across Africa, Europe and beyond.

According to a statement issued by Special Adviser to the SGF on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, Tinubu stressed that for Nigeria, climate-induced mobility is neither distant nor abstract but deeply rooted in the country’s history, geography and lived realities.

While mobility has traditionally served as a coping mechanism for communities adapting to environmental and economic change, he noted that the scale and intensity of recent climate pressures have fundamentally altered migration patterns.

According to the President, mobility is not inherently negative and, with sound policies, legal protection and adequate investment, can serve as a legitimate adaptation strategy that enhances resilience and preserves human dignity.

Highlighting Nigeria’s experience, President Tinubu recalled the devastating 2022 floods that affected over 4.4 million people and displaced about 2.4 million across more than 30 states, with entire communities submerged, homes destroyed and livelihoods disrupted.

He added that recurring floods continue to displace populations, placing sustained pressure on host communities and fragile infrastructure.

The President also cited the Lake Chad Basin, where decades of environmental degradation have undermined fishing, farming and pastoral livelihoods, forcing communities to migrate, as well as Nigeria’s coastline, where rising sea levels and erosion threaten housing and infrastructure.

Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, he said his administration has shifted from reactive responses to proactive climate disaster preparedness, including the launch of the Global Flood Disaster Management Project to strengthen early warning systems, flood-resilient infrastructure and disaster coordination nationwide.

He also announced the Climate-Resilient Livelihoods Empowerment Programme for Displaced Populations, a 10-year, $250 million initiative aimed at empowering displaced persons through climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy entrepreneurship, green value chains and targeted women and youth leadership tracks.

President Tinubu said climate-induced mobility is a transnational challenge that no government can address alone, calling for shared responsibility, strengthened international cooperation and sustained solidarity.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to advancing evidence-based policymaking and inclusive partnerships within the Rabat Process and beyond.

He thanked Switzerland, the European Union, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development and other partners for their continued support, expressing hope that the discussions would translate into concrete collaboration linking climate action, migration governance and sustainable development.

Tinubu seeks reforms to expand Court of Appeal, Federal High Court, strengthen health institutions

President Bola Tinubu has asked the House of Representatives to amend the Court of Appeal Act to establish an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre at the appellate court for the adjudication of appellate matters.

The President is also seeking amendments to the Court of Appeal Act and the Federal High Court Act to increase the number of Justices and judges from 70 to 110 for the Court of Appeal, and from 70 to 90 for the Federal High Court.

In addition, Tinubu has proposed comprehensive amendments to the laws establishing 24 federal health institutions and regulatory agencies to strengthen their operational capacity.

The Speaker of the House announced that the President transmitted three separate bills requesting legislative amendments affecting the judiciary and the health sector.

One bill seeks to amend the Court of Appeal Act 2004 to expand the number of Justices to 110, while another proposes changes to the Federal High Court Act 2024 to raise the number of judges to 90. The third communication contains 24 bills aimed at revising legal frameworks governing federal health institutions nationwide.

The proposed Court of Appeal (Amendment) Bill, 2026, is designed to enhance the institutional capacity, efficiency, and effectiveness of the appellate court in line with constitutional provisions and current justice sector demands.

Beyond increasing the number of Justices, the bill also seeks to restructure provisions on the composition, precedence, and ranking of Court of Appeal Justices, including the status of the President of the Court and the determination of seniority. It further provides for the conduct of court proceedings through electronic and audio-visual platforms.

In addition, it seeks to establish an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre within the Court of Appeal, to which appellate matters may be referred for settlement, while empowering the President of the Court of Appeal to issue regulations and practice directions for its effective operation and also seek to introduce several procedures and administrative amendments to improve operational efficiency and legal certainty in appellate practice.

The President explained that the bill also seeks to update terminology and definitions within the Principal Act, including the recognition of virtual hearings and modern correctional nomenclature, and consolidates interpretative provisions to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with the current legal and institutional framework.

According to him, these amendments are timely and necessary; they respond to the growing demands on the appellate justice system, seek to reduce delays in the administration of justice, strengthen access to justice for litigants across the Federation, and reinforce public confidence in the judiciary.

For the Federal High Court, the president, while the original act provides for 50 judges for the court, the number was increased to seventy (70) by the Amendment in 2005, and remains the current strength of the Court.

President Tinubu said, “It is noteworthy that the Court now bears a substantial and expanding responsibility for the prosecution of terrorism related offences, transnational organized crimes, and other matters touching directly on national security.

“The House is invited to note that the proposed increase of the Federal High Court Justices from 70 to 90 will significantly improve the Judge-to-ration, enhance the speed and quality of adjudication, and allow for greater judicial specialization in technically demanding areas such as terrorism, financial crimes, taxation, intellectual property, maritime law, and election-related litigation.

The President is also seeking the approval of the House to amend 24 Health Sector Acts.

He said, “The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice in coordination with the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, following the directive of the Federal Executive Council, engaged in a review of the enabling laws of the Health Sector Institutions for the purpose of streamlining the over-bloated membership structure of their Governing Boards to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery and have concluded the following twenty-four Health Sector Bills”

The bills are University Teaching Hospitals (Reconstitution of Boards, etc.) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the National Hospital for Women and Children, Abuja (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Federal Medical Centres (Amendment) Bill, 2025; the National Specialty Hospitals Management Board (Establishment) Bill, 2025, the Orthopedic Hospitals Management Board (Amendment) Bill, 2025; The National Eye Centre (Amendment) Bill, 2025; the National Hospital for Women and Obstetric Fistula (Establishment) Bill, 2025 and the National Ear Care Centre (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

  • 2027: Why north will back Tinubu for second term, by NYF

2027: Why north will back Tinubu for second term, by NYF

The Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF) has declared that northern Nigeria will overwhelmingly support President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

It also cited his reforms, commitment to national unity, and adherence to Nigeria’s power rotation principle.

In a statement issued on behalf of the group, the chairman of NYF, Sama Musa, on Wednesday said the North remains resolute in its support for President Tinubu, describing his administration as pivotal to stability, inclusiveness, and progressive governance since the return to democratic rule in 1999.

Musa noted that Nigeria’s zoning and rotation arrangement has played a critical role in promoting equity, representation, and harmony among the country’s diverse regions, adding that President Tinubu’s leadership reflects the spirit and intent of that system.

He said, “Since the inception of our democratic journey in 1999, Nigeria has witnessed a significant evolution in its political landscape. The rotation system, a framework designed to promote inclusivity and representation among the diverse ethnic and regional groups, has emerged as a cornerstone of our democratic process.

“This system has not only provided a platform for equitable power distribution but has also served as a bulwark against potential discord and division among the various segments of our society.

“President Tinubu’s tenure has exemplified the essence of this rotation system, reinforcing the belief that leadership should resonate with the aspirations and needs of all Nigerians, particularly those in the North. His administration has initiated a plethora of reforms aimed at addressing the socio-economic challenges that have long plagued our region.

“From infrastructural development to educational advancement and security enhancements, President Tinubu’s policies have laid a solid foundation for sustainable growth and progress.

“As we look toward the future, it is crucial to ensure continuity in these laudable reforms. The progress made thus far must not only be preserved but also expanded upon. Re-electing President Tinubu for a second term will guarantee that the momentum of his transformative agenda continues unabated.

“His vision for a prosperous Nigeria, characterized by economic resilience and social cohesion, aligns seamlessly with the aspirations of the Northern Nigerian populace. Moreover, the re-election of President Tinubu is paramount for the preservation of national unity. In a nation as diverse as Nigeria, it is essential to cultivate a sense of belonging among all citizens.

“The President’s commitment to fostering dialogue, promoting inclusivity, and bridging divides has been instrumental in nurturing a collective national identity. His leadership has demonstrated that unity is not merely a lofty ideal but a tangible reality that can be achieved through concerted efforts and shared vision.

“The Northern Youth Frontiers recognizes that the challenges facing our nation are multifaceted and require a leader who possesses the acumen, experience, and dedication to navigate them effectively. President Tinubu’s track record speaks volumes; his ability to engage with various stakeholders, his pragmatic approach to governance, and his unwavering resolve to uplift the lives of ordinary Nigerians make him the ideal candidate to lead our nation into the future.

“One of the most significant recent developments is the decamping of Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State, from the New Nigeria) People’s Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This shift is a critical indicator of the North’s potential voting patterns in the upcoming 2027 presidential elections. The move confirms that the North will overwhelmingly support Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The NYF called on Northern youths and stakeholders to mobilize at the grassroots level in support of Tinubu’s re-election, urging active participation through community engagements, town hall meetings, and political advocacy.

He added, “We call upon all citizens of Northern Nigeria to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as we embark on this journey toward the 2027 elections. Let us embrace the spirit of unity, cooperation, and collective responsibility as we advocate for the re-election of a leader who has consistently prioritised the welfare of the Nigerian people.

“As we mobilise our grassroots networks, we encourage engagement at all levels – from community meetings to town halls, from social media campaigns to traditional outreach. It is our collective duty to ensure that every voice is heard and every vote counts.

“Together, we can demonstrate that the Northern region is not only a vital part of Nigeria’s political space but also a beacon of hope for a united and prosperous future”.

Reaffirming the group’s position, Musa said supporting Tinubu’s second-term bid goes beyond partisan politics, describing it as an endorsement of continuity, unity, and democratic values, adding that, “By voting for continuity, we are not merely endorsing a candidate; we are championing a vision for a Nigeria that thrives on unity, progress, and democratic values. Let us stand together, as one North, in our commitment to a brighter tomorrow.”

Nigeria’s economy is gradually taking a clearer and more hopeful direction as the Tinubu Media Force has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s investment drive, describing it as a practical and people-focused strategy that is already restoring confidence in the country.

Speaking on the impact of the President’s international engagements, the National Coordinator of the Tinubu Media Force, Hon. Gbenga Abiola, said the administration has moved beyond promises to actions that are yielding visible results across the economy.

According to Abiola, strategic partnerships with countries such as India, the United States and key European nations are bringing in investments for infrastructure, manufacturing and energy.

He explained that these investments are creating jobs, supporting local industries, and helping businesses operate more efficiently, benefits that ordinary Nigerians can feel in their daily lives.

He highlighted that the Middle East, including Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, has also become a strong partner in boosting agriculture, food production and trade.

Abiola said that better farming support and modern practices are helping farmers increase yields, while improved trade and aviation links are opening new markets for Nigerian products and creating opportunities for small businesses and young entrepreneurs.

According to him, cooperation with Türkiye in construction, manufacturing and security will attract more investments, improve safety across communities and support long-term national growth that touches the lives of ordinary citizens.

In conclusion, the Tinubu Media Force encouraged Nigerians to continue to support the uncommon leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that sustained public support is crucial for consolidating ongoing reforms, attracting further investments and securing a more prosperous and stable future for the average Nigerian.
