Ndume: Fifth columnists working to sabotage Tinubu’s administration

Former Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, yesterday, accused fifth columnists of working hard to sabotage the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ndume said the persistent rise in the prices of fuel, food, essential goods and services is becoming unbearable to average Nigerians and the poor that form the majority.

Ndume, who made these assertions in a statement in Abuja, said bad elements were trying hard to pitch the people against the administration of President Tinubu by pushing for harsh reforms and bad policies instead of controlling inflation and exchange rate that are making life unbearable for Nigerians.

He said those who are bent on making the President look bad will stop at nothing in inflicting pains on Nigerians through the “so-called reforms until things get out of hand and the blame will be on President Tinubu.”

He claimed that many families can barely meet up with daily demands in their houses as a result of the hyper-inflation caused by incessant increase in the prices of essential goods and services.

Ndume said: “I personally believe President Bola Ahmed Tinubu means well for Nigeria and Nigerians. I know this because I know what he stands for. But some of his advisers who don’t mean well for the people of this country give him wrong advice.

“I’m appealing to him to resist these bad people who want to pitch the people against his administration. The hardship these people are inflicting on Nigerians is becoming  unbearable. I’m currently in Borno, and I know what I’m talking about. People are really suffering, hungry, frustrated and angry.

“In Borno State here, many families can’t even feed anymore. The untold hardship of these frequent increases in the prices is unimaginable. Farmers cannot even move their farm products anymore because of the high cost of transportation.

“Those who can still do this add the cost of transportation to the prices of food items they sell, and that’s why many people can’t feed again. People can’t travel anymore. To travel by road from Abuja to Maiduguri, for instance, is a fortune. How many of our people can afford that?”

Protest: ‘Tinubu’s administration working tirelessly to set Nigeria on path to sustainable devt’

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Chief Adeniyi Ismail Oluwatosin, has stressed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is working tirelessly to set Nigeria on a path to sustainable development.

Ismail who is the Bobaselu of Kajola-Ajaba Federal Constituency, called for patience and unity amid the planned August 1 nationwide protest in Nigeria.

In a statement, he said: “I write to you today not only as a fellow citizen but as someone deeply committed to the progress and prosperity of our beloved nation.

“Recent developments indicate that there are plans for nationwide protests from the 1st to the 10th of August 2024, fueled by frustrations over the current skyrocket of fuel price and the high cost of living. While these concerns are valid, I urge us all to carefully consider the potential consequences of such actions.

“We find ourselves in challenging times, with economic difficulties affecting every facet of life. The price of fuel has skyrocketed, leading to increased costs in transportation, goods, and services. The ripple effects of this are felt most acutely by the everyday Nigerian, who is struggling to make ends meet.

“However, it is crucial to recognize that these problems did not arise overnight. We are dealing with the compounded effects of decades of mismanagement, corruption, and economic policies that have not always been in the best interest of the people.

“The current administration, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is working tirelessly to correct these wrongs and set Nigeria on a path to sustainable development. Let us take a moment to reflect on the 2020 EndSARS protests.

“What began as a peaceful call for justice and reform tragically escalated into violence and destruction. Over the course of the protests, we witnessed the loss of innumerable lives, the destruction of properties worth billions of naira, and a general atmosphere of fear and unrest that gripped the nation.

“The aftermath of these events is still with us, and the scars, both physical and emotional, have yet to fully heal. The destruction and chaos that followed served only to deepen our collective pain and slow the progress we all seek.

“As a nation, we must learn from the past and ensure that history does not repeat itself. The losses we suffered during the EndSARS protests were not just in terms of lives and property, but also in the trust and unity that binds us as a people. The impact of those events is a stark reminder of how quickly things can spiral out of control when peaceful protests are overtaken by elements of violence and lawlessness.

“The planned protests in August carry similar risks. While the intent may be to express dissatisfaction and demand change, the potential for these demonstrations to spiral out of control is high. We must consider the lives that could be lost, the businesses that could be destroyed, and the impact on our communities and economy.

“The cost of violent protests is always too high. We cannot afford to further destabilize our nation, especially at a time when unity and cooperation are more necessary than ever.

“I urge our youth, who are the bedrock of our nation, to resist the urge to delve into actions that could disrupt the peace of our country. Sixty-two years of rot cannot be fixed in just two years of any administration, no matter how well-intentioned or hardworking. Real change takes time, effort, and the collective will of the people.

“Let us channel our energies into constructive dialogue, community building, and supporting initiatives that contribute to the greater good. The current administration is aware of the challenges we face and is committed to addressing them. Already, there are signs of progress, and with continued support and patience, we will see even greater developments before the end of President Tinubu’s first tenure.

“As we move forward, it is essential that we, as a people, remain united in our purpose and steadfast in our resolve to see Nigeria thrive. The challenges we face are not insurmountable, but overcoming them requires our collective effort and undying allegiance to peace and stability.

“We must remember that every great nation has faced trials and tribulations, yet it is through resilience and unity that they have emerged stronger. Nigeria is no different. We have within us the strength, the ingenuity, and the spirit to rise above our current difficulties.

“I understand that patience can be difficult in the face of hardship. However, it is important to trust in the process of governance. The current administration, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is implementing policies aimed at economic recovery and development. While the effects of these policies may not be immediately visible, they are designed to lay a solid foundation for long-term prosperity.”

He said: “This could range from simple identity theft through compromise of social media, to hacking through malicious malware attacks on businesses. No one can be said to be immune anymore.

“Recently a serving governor’s phone was attacked and his unsuspecting friends and associates paid billions to criminals.

“That is why we are working hard and collaborating with concerned agencies to raise awareness and collectively forge a way forward”.

“On the 6th and 7th of August, the Centre for Cohesion and Development in collaboration with the Nigerian Police Force, and National Cybercrime Centre will be organizing the Abuja Dialogue on Cybersecurity.”

The group has reportedly finalised plans to take the dialogue to the six geopolitical zones in the country.

The summit condemned what it called organised systematic attack on traditional rulers and eminent sons and daughters of Yoruba land by suspected herders.

It resolved that Yoruba race should take full control of their forests, homelands and farmlands, observing that the herdsmen attacks have been largely responsible for food scarcity in the South-West.

“That the Yoruba, especially the traditional rulers should make recourse to their natural resources including natural powers to combat banditry and kidnapping; that Yoruba Obas should not jettison traditional values.

“That government at all levels should recognize the roles of traditional rulers and factor them into the national security architecture.

“That the entire Obas in Yorubaland should work in unison to ward off the evils of banditry and kidnappings as each of the states could only succeed in chasing the marauders to another state.

“That any Oba who is disinterested in Yoruba culture and customs should abdicate his throne for anyone who is deeply versed and interested in Yoruba tradition,” communique said.

It called for the strengthening of the Amotekun Corps in terms of motivation, finances, training and retraining of personnel and equipment.

The summit charged local, state and Federal Government to employ the use of drones and other appropriate technology for the effective surveillance of forests and roads.
