  • Gov Ayade, Femi Kuti, Tiwa, D’Banj, Wizkid to honour Mandela at Global Citizen Festival

Some of the world’s biggest artistes and advocates are heading to South Africa next week, to celebrate the life, legacy, and unfinished business of Nelson Mandela.

Tagged Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100, organisers say the festival will be a historic event and the largest campaign for the United Nations’ Global Goals that the world has ever seen.

Nigeria’s talents like Femi Kuti, Tiwa Savage, D’Banj, and Wizkid are expected to perform alongside international stars like Beyoncé & JAY-Z, Cassper Nyovest, Ed Sheeran, Eddie Vedder, Kacey Musgraves, Pharrell Williams & Chris Martin, Sho Madjozi, and Usher.

Following the campaign launch in July, Global Citizen started a digital campaign encouraging Nigerian governors to prioritize water and sanitation.

Wizkid, the Nigerian singer and global superstar also lent his support to the campaign, inviting governors to join him at the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100, to be hosted by the Motsepe Foundation, on December 2, 2018 in Johannesburg.

In a series of tweets, Wizkid called on governor of Lagos, Akinwunmi Ambode, to invest in “eliminating barriers for Nigerians,” which starts with quality education and proper sanitation for everyone.

Promoters say, since the launch of the campaign, more than 145,000 Global Citizens have taken action, while urging Nigerian state governors to invest in sanitation. “Currently, 70% of Nigerians do not have access to a toilet, which often causes life-threatening diseases, decreased school attendance, missed work days, and poverty,” they said.

Governor of Cross River State, Professor Benedict Ayade, and his counterpart in Ondo State, His Excellency Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu have both heard Global Citizens’ calls to action and promised to announce commitments to sanitation at the festival.

“I will be personally there to speak strongly for Africa and to speak on that international platform,” said Professor Ayade. “Open defecation for us in Cross River State is a thing that we find unacceptable, particularly in urban centres, because of the close accommodation,” he said. “But we do know that the greater challenge is not in advocacy; the greater challenge is the infrastructure.”

A lack of sanitation disproportionately impacts girls and women. It is a leading barrier for girls who want to access an education. It stops them from enrolling in school and their inability to manage their periods at school causes them to miss a significant number of days.

Study says open defecation does not only cause social stigma but it is also a factor contributing to violence against young girls and women. One-quarter of women defecating in the open in slums in Lagos had either first- or second-hand experience of harassment, a threat of violence, or actual assault in the previous 12 months, and over two-thirds felt unsafe using a shared or community toilet in a public place, according to a study sponsored by Water Aid in selected slums in Lagos.

Cross River’s and Ondo’s investment in sanitation is a big step in the right direction.

Storm appears over for Tee Billz and Tiwa

At midnight, sometime in April 2016, music star Tiwa Savage granted an interview in which she declared that her less than two years marriage with former manager, Tunji Balogun who is also known as Tee Billz, was over. She narrated her husband’s infidelity, wanton spending of her money and substance abuse. On his part, Tee Billz accused his wfe of sleeping around with Dr Sid, 2Baba and her label boss, Don Jazzy.
Tee Billz reportedly attempted suicide but was ‘rescued’ from jumping off a bridge by his friends. Social media feasted on their private issues and disagreements and both Tiwa and Tee Billz felt it was over. And their Dubai fairy tale wedding seemed all but over.
However, fast-forward several months later, things have changed.
Before that, family members of the couple waded into the matter and made efforts to reunite the couple. Also, R&B singer, Banky W, a close friend to both Tiwa dn Tee Billz. In fact, it was rumoured that Tee Billz had sought refuge in Banky W’s house in the early days following the public and messy break-up. In August, the EME Boss reportedly revealed the possibility of the duo’s comeback.
“I haven’t commented on the Tiwa and Teebillz situation because I think that some things are better worked out behind closed doors,” Banky W said.
“One of my problems with the world is that we comment too much. I am a strong believer in not letting the world see or discuss your dirty laundry.”
After Tee Billz went abroad to seek help, in the latter part of 2016, another set of rumours, this time, of a come-back between the duo, was in the offing. It was also rumoured that Tee Billz was back in the country, living with Tiwa and their son, Jamil.
But, on December 30, 2016, Tee Billz and Tiwa savage finally put to rest the rumour of their reunion when they appeared together at the traditional wedding of Stephanie Coker and Olumide Aderinokun in Lagos. It was the first time the couple would be seen together since their messy break-up in April 2016.
Meanwhile, both Tiwa and Tee Billz are yet to confirm their reunion formally.

Artistes react to Tiwa, Teebillz marital issues

The dust is yet to settle over the Tiwa Savage/Teebillz saga as celebrities have continued to weigh in on the matter. While the public seem to be divided along even lines, a couple of artistes have called on both parties to tread with caution.

Veteran singer, Charlie Boy, aka Area Fada, decried a situation where celebriaties wash their dirty linens in public stating that it is sad, especially if they are amongst stars that he admires and love.

TeeBillz and Tiwa Savage una fall my hand no be small. Una no know say MUTUAL RESPECT IS NON-NEGOTIABLE for marriage? Why yeye una self for public like this.

Una no know say competition na for business no be for marriage,” he admonished.

In his words, artistes are more fragile than normal people; however they must understand that they are role models to millions of people.

No marriage can escape bad weather even my own, I dey sometimes see Oba for the matter but like I say, “marriage is not about being compatible but how couples deal with their incompatibility. Make I no hear una problems for loudspeakers again, joor.

AreaFada done talk him own,” he wrote.

One of those who was at the receiving end of Teebillz’ rant was Tuface Idibia, but it appears he is more bothered by the wellbeing of both parties. The entertainer took a swipe at those who have been making disheartening comments about Tiwa and Teebillz’ marital issues. “I’m so disgusted at some people that have been making distasteful jokes out of people’s real life heartbreaking predicament. GOD forgive u,” he tweeted.

Cool FM presenter, Freeze, who had earlier blamed Tiwa Savage for escalating the issue, made a u-turn after having a lengthy chat with the songstress. Describing his earlier post as ‘being bit insensitive’, the OAP said that it’s too late for regrets now. According to him, we all have to stop blaming either party and focus on praying for both of them.

Teebillz and Tiwa are both at a fragile state, and it is so unfortunate that this matter has been brought before a fanged public ready to tear us all up for their amusement. Like @official2baba said, don’t make jokes about a serious matter, instead, remember them in your prayers. I love you Tiwa, I love you Billz, there is a light at the end of this tunnel, GOD is your strength and he will see you through this,” his latter post read.

In a simple tweet, and perhaps speaking from his own recent experience, Paul Okoye of Psquare fame advised the couple; “Don’t ever go to the public to solve a private matter… It will only get worse!!! You are only entertaining people. And they are having fun.”

Meanwhile, statistics show that Tiwa Savage broke Youtube records with her all-revealing interview, emerging one of the fastest to reach 300,000 views in 24 hours.

  • Tuface, Tiwa Savage sing for The RockStar

Tuface, Tiwa Savage sing for The RockStar

AS more Nigerian brands continue to identify with music and other forms of entertainment, the flagship of Nigerian Breweries, Star, Wednesday night evolved an alluring cellophane wrap, which producers have branded around the musical sensation.

In an unusual ballroom setting, guests of the organisers at the Federal Palace Hotel fraternised with music artistes: Tuface Idibia and Tiwa Savage. The artistes set the mood for what, initially, many thought was a replica of the company’s recent mid-week makeshift club parties, until the company’s Marketing Director Walter Drenth, while running through the over 60-year history of the brand, unveiled the new Star bottle, called The Rockstar.

The first in Nigeria, the new-look limited edition 60cl bottle came after weeks of speculations from teasers, through a highly publicised digital campaign on social media platforms with the catch phrase: Musicinabottle. The product is expected to be sold within the next 60 days, coinciding with the Yuletide season.

“The new limited edition Star Music bottle comes in full body sleeves that promises to excite and engage our consumers who always stand out and are true ‘rock stars’!” The bottle is a worthy addition to the Star Music family – our premium music and lifestyle platform- and a major achievement for us. We know that our consumers will cherish and appreciate it always,” said Drenth.

Other guests at the event include DJ Xclusive, Kelechi Amadi Obi, Yaw, Toke Makinwa, Ebuka Obi Uchendu, OC Ukeje, Kelvin Orifa, Toni Kan, Bez, Tunde Ednut, Uru Eke, Efa, Dr Sid and Beverly Naya.

  • Tiwa Savage Copy her look

    Tiwa Savage Copy her look

THIS season has been a busy one on the red carpet. The R&B songstress star Tiwa Savage looks hot in these cute pieces.

Wearing a white mesh designed top, pleated pink skirt and off white pumps, the A-list diva proves that you don’t need to be head-to-toe in designer to make a fashion statement and she proves that the days of pleated skirt are still much around.

She completes the red carpet-worthy look with a slick of tinted lippy and gliding wavy hair-do.

What do you think of Tiwa Savage’s charming look? Steal her look!

Basic pieces to style with a pleated skirt

    Tank tops and camisoles

These tops serve as the perfect foundation for any look and work well with pleated skirts. Choose tops that fit closely to the body rather than loose-fitting ones.

    Mix different fabrics

For an individualised and stylish look, mix different fabrics that complement one another, such as a jacket/plain shirt over sequined camisole or tank top. Then, choose a pleated skirt that complements the fabrics worn up top. Consider experimenting with prints.

    Scarves

Scarves have been making a comeback in the fashion scene in a big way. And it is a good thing because scarves can be worn many different ways depending on the look desired. An important factor to consider, however, is the length of the scarf. If it is too long, it may be too much of a contrast. Tie the scarf in such a style so that it looks appropriate and attractive with the pleated skirt and the rest of the outfit.

    Belts

Belts are popular accessories today, and their purpose is not limited to simply holding pants or skirts up. Rather, belts are used as accompaniments to an outfit. Skinny or thick, belts of all widths can be combined with an outfit to pull off a variety of looks. Choosing coloured belts can also add a splash of flair to a muted pleated skirt and top. The size of the pleats will determine the most appropriate belt design.

    Shoes

When sporting the pleated skirt outfit, pay close attention to the shoes worn because they really bring the entire outfit together.
