  • New lease of life for Toyin Subair

It is harder to find a more poignant modern version of the hero-to-zero tale than the case of Toyin Subair. He is the enterprising dude who emerged from nowhere with indigenous pay TV company, HiTV, which became an overnight sensation and almost sent its major competitor, DSTV, to the morgue. Sadly, the romance was not to last, as the company soon sank without a trace in a sea of debt.

Following the incident, Toyin, who was once the toast of event organisers and blue chip companies, vanished into thin air, leaving broken hearts and out-of-work staff in his wake.

The handsome dude has since resurfaced in London where he is said to be putting the pieces of his life together again. At a time where a new local pay TV outfit, TSTV, has appeared on the scene to a cacophony of controversy, its operators would do well to learn from the tale of Subair and HiTV whose rise and fall were both unexpected and ultimately tragic.

  • Where is Toyin Subair?

Does the name Toyin Subair ring a bell? Yes, he is the guy who emerged from nowhere to take the Nigerian pay television space by storm with HiTV, which for a time gave DSTV a run for its money and almost ran the South African satellite television company out of business.

In those happier times when HiTV was at the height of its fame, Subair became the toast of the Nigerian celebrity space. He was one of the most sought after personalities around as people literally begged him to give speeches at their events.

All that changed when HiTV lost the rights to broadcast the English Premier League, the proverbial cash cow which had been the reason for the explosion in its subscriber base. This development began the downward spiral which culminated in the company’s winding up and subsequent extinction. Since then, Subair, a seasoned lawyer, became as scarce as rain in harmattan period.

He was said to have left the shores of the country for greener pastures in the United Kingdom. The handsome dude is said to be putting finishing touches to a project he has been working on for some time.

ALTHOUGH he might not have known it, Toyin Subair, the owner of the defunct pay television station, HITV, provoked a debate in social circles with his sudden disappearance from the social scene. Not a few people had been wondering his whereabouts. But it has come to light that the popular socialite has since left the shores of Africa and relocated to London, United Kingdom.

He left Nigeria a few years ago, after his private cable television business collapsed. But he is gradually staging a comeback.

He was sighted at the Steam Bar of Paddington Hilton Hotel in London with a beautiful lady penultimate Friday. They had an interesting time in each other’s company until the wee hours of that day.

Contrary to the popular belief that things are not really looking up for him, we have it on good authority that the well connected dude is doing very fine.

Toyin Subair, Lagos socialite and owner of defunct HiTV was sighted in London recently at a photography exhibition in celebration of Nigeria’s centenary. The event, which was sponsored by the Kola Aluko Foundation, paraded prominent Nigerians and friends of Nigeria based in the UK.

Although Subair strolled into the venue without an air of the flamboyance for which he was known in the past, he still was able to command the attention of many at the occasion.

In recent years, Toyin has been lying low in social affairs. He is hardly seen in public, contrary to his former ubiquitous self in the days of yore when he had the world as his oyster. He was not only a darling of political bigwigs, his signature was also highly sought after by top guns in the corporate world. His car park paraded top of the range SUVs.

Toyin lived life to the fullest until his pay television broadcast business hit the rocks less than five years after it started. He currently lives in London where his closeness to billionaire businessman, Kola Aluko, appears to have given him a new lease of life.

It is said that in London social circle, no A-list event is complete without his presence, and he mostly attends events in Kola Aluko’s company.

Subair relocated abroad after the pay TV company ran into trouble waters with one of the financial institutions in the country.
