The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has warned roadside mechanics to desist from repairing vehicles on the Owode-Ijako and the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, to reduce gridlock in the area.

The TRACE Corps Commander/CEO Mr Seni Ogunyemi, spoke through Ota Divisional Commander Adekunle Ariyo Ajibade while controlling the hectic traffic in Owode-Ijako, along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, Ogun State.

Ogunyemi noted that the warning had become necessary as the activities of the roadside mechanics contributed to gridlock in the area, adding that the agency would no longer tolerate such activities including any other obstructions that could hinder free flow of traffic movement along the express. “It has also been discovered that their activities narrowed the road and this is contributing immensely to traffic jams in the area.

“May I also implore motorists to refrain from parking indiscriminately on the roads as they are also compounding the problems on the Owode-Ijako road and its environs,’’ he said.

The TRACE boss further warned commercial drivers to desist from obrstructing road through picking and dropping passengers along the axis to ease the free flow of traffic.

Ogunyemi urged hawkers and street traders on the roads, especially at the Sango-Ota toll-gate, to look for affordable shops where they could display their wares, to stem loss of lives.

He charged motorists to collaborate with TRACE officials on the Owode-Ijako axis and its environs, to enhance free-flow of traffic on a round-the-clock basis.

Ogunyemi also enjoined motorists to desist from reckless driving, especially driving against traffic, during the rainy season.

The Corps Commander/Executive Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Olaseni Ogunyemi, has said the Corps would no longer tolerate drunk driving.

According to him, the menace had taken the led to incessant road crashes. He added that any driver, especially heavy duty drivers, who tests positive to alcohol in an accident, will be prosecuted and the vehicle impounded.

Ogunyemi, who addressed reporters at the scene of three accidents yesterday, said: “Only today, we’ve had three different truck crashes at different locations due to heavy dose of alcohol in the drivers. Why must these people be drunk and still drive, ending up destroying people’s lives and property?

“We, in the TRACE, will show them the way to the court once they are apprehended. It’s not all about paying fine, but strict obedience to traffic laws. Life is sacred; it must be protected and not wasted.
