    Traffic diversion plan announced

    Lagos State Government has unveiled a comprehensive traffic diversion plan ahead of emergency repairs on Oworonshoki/Third Axial Bridge, set to begin on May 6.

    It will be concluded on September 23, spanning 110 days.

    A statement by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the repairs would be executed in eight phases, covering both lanes of the bridge.

    The statement added: ‘’Phases 1 to 4, from May 6 to July 14 (50 days), will focus on the inbound stretch toward the Third Mainland Bridge, while phases 5 to 8, from July 15 to September 23, (51 days), will address the outbound stretch.

    ‘’Motorists heading for Oshodi or Victoria Island via Oworonshoki/Third Axial Bridge will be diverted to a lane approximately 50 metres from the work zone, regaining full access 50 metres beyond to continue their journeys.”

    Lagos announces traffic diversion on Island for road rehabilitation

    Lagos State Government has announced a comprehensive traffic diversion plan, to ensure technical checks, duct calibration and land route repairs at designated locations on Lagos Island.

    Transportation Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi said the repair would begin on January 17 and end on January 31.

    He said this in a statement yesterday, highlighting the affected locations and alternative routes, to minimise disruptions.

    “The designated locations include Bonny Camp Underbridge to Eko Atlantic Sales Office, Eko Hotel Roundabout, Officer’s Mess inward Independence Bridge, Ajose Adeogun to Ligali Ayorinde and Ligali Ayorinde to the end of Landmark,” Osiyemi said.

    He assured motorists that measures had been taken to ensure minimal traffic impact.

    “Bonny Camp Underbridge to Eko Atlantic Sales Office will be repaired between January 17 and 31, focusing on the road median, which will have no impact on traffic,”

    Osiyemi said for Eko Hotel Roundabout, scheduled for January 19, “motorists from Eko Hotel moving towards Adetokunbo Ademola will be diverted into two lanes around the roundabout, which should be maintained for safe and efficient work operations,”

    Construction of Mile 2 interchange hub: Lagos announces 15-month traffic diversion

    The Lagos State Government, through its Ministry of Transportation, has announced a planned traffic diversion at Mile 2 to facilitate the construction of the new Multi-Model Interchange Hub. This project aims to integrate rail, bus, water, and non-motorized transport modes, simplifying travel and improving connectivity to other parts of Lagos.

    The diversion will affect traffic on Loop 1 (Apapa-bound lane) and Loop 4 (Badagry-bound lane) of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, beginning on Monday, November 11, 2024, and is expected to remain in effect until Monday, February 16, 2026.

    In a statement, Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi explained that the government had arranged alternative routes to minimize disruption for motorists as follows:

    Motorists heading to Oshodi from Apapa – Direct passage will be available.

    Motorists heading to Badagry from Apapa – Continue on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, turn onto Akinwande Road, connect with Coker, and access the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

    Motorists heading to Lagos from Badagry – Direct passage will be available.

    Motorists heading to Apapa – Divert to Durban Road, link Amuwo Odofin Estate, and rejoin the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.

    The Commissioner assured the public that all diversion routes would be clearly marked, with signage guiding motorists.

    Lagos announces three months traffic diversion at Mile 2

    The Lagos State Government has announced that traffic will be diverted at Loop 1 on the Apapa bound lane and Loop 4 on the Badagry bound lane at Mile 2, for about 15 months for the construction work of the Transport Interchange Terminal that will integrate Rail, Bus, Water and Non–Motorised Transportation.

    Commissioner of Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists yesterday, said the construction will commence on Monday, November 11, 2024, and completed on Monday, February 16, 2026.

    Consequently, a number of alternative routes have been provided for motoring public to use; motorists heading to Oshodi from Apapa will have through traffic and vice versa.

    Motorists heading to Badagry from Apapa will continue their journey on Apapa – Oshodi Expressway and take a turn into Akinwande Road to link Coker and access Lagos – Badagry Express Way to continue their journeys.

    Motorists heading to Lagos from Badagry will also have through traffic and vice versa.

    Motorists heading to Apapa will be diverted into Durban Road to link Amuwo Odofin Estate and connect Apapa-Oshodi Express Way to continue their journeys.

    Assuring that the diversion routes have been well marked with signs to assist motorists navigate their destinations, Osiyemi also confirmed that officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be on ground along the affected routes to oversee traffic flow. He further advised motorists to cooperate with the interventions put in place to minimize inconveniences.

    Lagos announces traffic diversion for city marathon

    The Lagos State Government has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the yearly Access Bank Lagos City Marathon coming up on Saturday between 5.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m.

    The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said this in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

    Osiyemi said some routes would be temporarily unavailable to motorists during the marathon.

    He listed the routes as Funsho Williams Avenue from Stadium, Surulere, Ikorodu Road to Anthony, and Gbagada to Third Mainland Bridge.

     “Others are: Third Mainland Bridge (inbound and outbound), Dolphin Road to Alfred Rewane Road, Falomo roundabout to Bourdillon Road, Lekki Bridge to Freedom Way, Akin-Adesola to Ahmadu BelloWay,” he said.

     He said the alternative routes available during the marathon are: Apongbon Bridge inwards Eko Bridge through Costain Roundabout, Iponri and Bode Thomas for a desired destination or utilise Eko Bridge through Costain Roundabout and Apapa Road to link Oyingbo/Jebba to access Herbert Macaulay for a desired destination.

     “Motorists can equally go through Victoria Island to link Independence Bridge and CMS bridge to access Apongbon inwards Ijora-Olopa to Iddo and Oyingbo to connect Herbert Macaulay Road to continue their journeys.

     “For motorists trying to navigate the Third Mainland Bridge; the bridge will not be available to motorists from 12.00 tonight till the end of the marathon,” he said.

     Osiyemi further hinted that all outbound journeys from Ikorodu Road, Funsho Williams Avenue en route Lagos Island would be exempted from the diversion.

     He added that officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be deployed to the diversion points for seamless traffic flow and the safety of motorists.

     Osiyemi, however, advised motorists who had no serious business along the marathon diversion routes to avoid the areas.

     He added that movement on the 3rd Mainland would return to status-quo immediately after the marathon.
