    For years, New Year’s Day in Nigeria’s capital city has often been marked by little more than quiet gatherings and church vigils, leaving residents with few entertainment options to kick off the year in grand style.

    However, that narrative is about to change as popular comedian Koboko Master partners with Transcorp Hilton Abuja to introduce a refreshing twist to the city’s festive calendar.

    The duo is set to host “1st 2 LAFF”, an electrifying entertainment event designed to redefine how Abuja residents celebrate the first day of the year.

    Combining comedy, music, and good vibes, the show promises to light up the Federal Capital Territory with laughter, rhythm, and unforgettable moments.

    The maiden edition of 1st 2 LAFF will not only serve as a celebration but also a thanksgiving experience for those spending their New Year’s Day in Abuja. The goal is to create a new annual tradition that residents and visitors can look forward to every January 1st.

    The star-studded lineup for the event includes some of Nigeria’s most celebrated comedians such as Kenny Blaq, MC Edo Pikin, Mr Patrick, and Dan the Humorous, among others. Guests will also enjoy live music performances, a live band, and the energetic mixes of DJ Romie, ensuring a night filled with laughter and nonstop entertainment.

    Koboko Master has described 1st 2 LAFF as “a dream born out of the need to give Abuja residents a reason to smile and celebrate the new year memorably.”

    The highly anticipated show will take place on January 1, 2026, at the prestigious Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, starting from 5:00 PM.

    With its exciting blend of comedy, music, and a touch of class, 1st 2 LAFF promises to be the beginning of a new entertainment tradition in the FCT, one that turns New Year’s Day from a quiet affair into a day of pure fun and laughter.

    The management of Transcorp Hilton Abuja on Tuesday hosted leading media executives to an evening of networking and appreciation, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining a strong and mutually beneficial relationship with the media.

    The event, themed “Media Cocktail Reception,” brought together prominent journalists, senior editors, and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, led by its Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike.

    In his welcome address, the General Manager of Transcorp Hilton Abuja, Mr. Zarybnicky, expressed deep appreciation to the media for their consistent support over the years through reportage and positive coverage.

    He described his experience in Nigeria since assuming duty in August as “remarkable and deeply rewarding,” commending Nigerians for their warmth, hospitality, and continued patronage of the hotel.

    “This is definitely the leading hotel in Africa, and we are very proud of this brand. For over thirty years, Transcorp Hilton has been the pride of Abuja,” he said.

    “In just three months in Nigeria, I have found this country amazing — the people’s sense of humor, the food, and the culture. We at Hilton appreciate everyone and look forward to deepening our relationship with the media,” he added.

    Mr. Zarybnicky reaffirmed the hotel’s commitment to maintaining an open and collaborative relationship with the media, emphasizing that such partnerships are vital to growth and innovation in the hospitality sector.

    He assured that the doors of Transcorp Hilton Abuja “will always remain open to the media for enquiries, engagement, and partnership opportunities that highlight the hotel’s exceptional services.”

    During the event, the Communications and Marketing Manager, Mrs. Ijeoma Osuji, made a brief presentation showcasing the hotel’s innovative hospitality offerings and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

    According to her, in 2025 alone, the hotel recycled over 15,000 kilograms of waste through eco-friendly processes and supported hundreds of individuals, including persons living with disabilities, through its CSR projects.

    Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Immediate Past President of the NUJ, Comrade (Chief) Chris Isiguzo, MFR; Deputy Managing Director of Arise News, Mr. Bayo Awosemo; NUJ FCT Council Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike; Council Secretary, Comrade Sandra Udeike; and Council Auditor, Mrs. Rosemary Ukoko-Tega, among others.

    Recognised as one of sub-Saharan Africa’s leading five-star hotels, Transcorp Hilton Abuja boasts 670 luxury rooms, eight restaurants and bars, a 670-capacity event hall, and extensive recreational facilities, including a casino, golf course, tennis courts, and a health club.

    Transcorp Hilton, NUJ-FCT pledge to strengthen strategic partnership

    In a move to bolster strategic partnership, a delegation from Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, visited the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Federal Capital Territory (NUJ-FCT) Council on Friday, August 1, 2025.

    The Commercial Director, Betty Aguiyi-Ironsi, accompanied by Ijeoma Osuji, the E-Commerce Manager—both the first women to hold their respective positions at Transcorp Hilton Abuja—expressed their satisfaction with the ongoing relationship between the hotel and the NUJ-FCT Council.

    The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ-FCT), Comrade Grace Ike, described the visit as a step in the right direction and expressed her delight at women taking centre stage. 

    She also praised the hotel as a key media partner in championing development.

    She said, “I want to appreciate Transcorp Hilton Abuja for graciously hosting the NUJ FCT 2025 Press Week Public Lecture. We do not take this for granted.”

    “No doubt, the hotel is known for its hospitality, and we look forward to more collaborations.”

    “Journalists in the FCT look forward to Hilton reviving the annual cocktail party—bringing together reporters and top senior editors after a year’s hectic work,” she added.

    Earlier, the Commercial Director, Betty Aguiyi-Ironsi, disclosed that their visit was to strengthen relations between the NUJ-FCT and Transcorp Hilton Hotel.

    While appreciating the role of the media as the watchdog of society, Aguiyi-Ironsi described journalists as frontline workers for national development, noting that their role cannot be overemphasized.

    “We are simply here to appreciate the media and pledge to continue our strategic relationship with the NUJ-FCT.”

    “Your publicity in ensuring we get the visibility we deserve cannot be taken for granted because we see the media as partners in progress,” she added.

    Miss Ijeoma Osuji expressed appreciation for the media support the hotel has received from the NUJ-FCT Council, reiterating that all media partners are valued, as the hotel’s relevance is largely credited to the media.

    Transcorp Hilton Abuja has consistently won awards on travel tours, including the NUJ-FCT Hospitality Award.

    The event was attended by members of the NUJ-FCT Executive Council, including Vice Chairman, Comrade Yahaya Ndambabo; Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle; Assistant Secretary, Sharon Emephia; Treasurer, Comrade Sandra Udeike; Financial Secretary, Comrade Henry Daniel Abimiku; and Internal Auditor, Comrade Rosemary Ukoko-Tega.

    Transcorp Hilton Abuja has been celebrated for its remarkable 24-year partnership with JCI Aso, earning a Partnership Appreciation Award during the 2024 JCI Aso Convention and Investiture.

    The organisation said the hotel has been a long-time partner in its mission to empower young leaders and foster sustainable community development.

    The award was presented during the 2024 JCI Aso Convention and Investiture, where the hotel’s commitment to youth development, leadership, and impactful service was celebrated.

    JCI Aso President, Amb Yetunde Adebisi, highlighted Transcorp Hilton’s pivotal role in advancing the organisation’s leadership, community service, and social impact initiatives.

    According to her, the hotel’s support has spanned key programs, including seminars, leadership training, and community outreach projects, all geared toward nurturing young leaders and driving societal change.

    She said: “Transcorp Hilton Abuja has been more than a partner; they have been a cornerstone of our success.

    “Their consistent support over the years has helped us grow as an organization and impact the lives of countless young people.”

    She also said the partnership has facilitated numerous events, such as JCI Aso’s Annual Convention and Investiture Ceremony, providing platforms for leadership development and collaboration.

  • Transcorp Hilton gets first indigenous Operations Director

    Transcorp Hilton Hotel Plc Abuja said it has promoted Mrs. Ebikaboere Seimodei to the position of Director of Operations. By this, she becomes the first Nigerian to occupy the position. She will lead the Operations Team of the 670-room hotel to deliver consistent services.

    Until her promotion, Ebi was the hotel’s Operations Manager.  She started her hospitality career over 25 years ago when she joined Transcorp Hilton Abuja as a Reservations Sales Agent on the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC). She rose through the ranks and held several positions including Reservations Manager, Front Office Manager, Quality Manager and Operations Manager.  A graduate of Sociology from the University of Jos, Ebi has been on various Hilton leadership programsl including the Kaizen Institute of Africa also certified her as a Kaizen Manager.”

  • Miss Ambassador for Peace Nigeria crowns winners

    It was a night of glitz and glamour as the Peace Achievers Award and Miss Ambassador for Peace Nigeria which held last Saturday at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

    The pageant saw contestants showcasing their talents and intellectual abilities as they entertained guests with dance performance and quiz.

    Nene Alagimenlen emerged the winner of Miss Ambassador for Peace Nigeria; while Williams Ugochi Testimony emerged as Miss Ambassador for Peace Africa.

    The Project Director, Miss Ambassador for Peace Agency, Mr. Kingsley Amafibe, appreciated guests for identifying with his project, while pointing out why his agency  targeted at building peace and humanitarian aids through the Peace Education Project.

    “Our society has been driven into a stage of abject poverty because of the extensive lack of proper education. Educating the youth on Peace Education has been our primary interest. We have set up outreach peace programmes in various schools to lend our voice to the Nigerian youths to acquire proper knowledge.”

    There were performances by singers Styl Plus, Faze and others while comedians Acapella and Ajebo also entertained the audience with jokes.

    Highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to distinguished recipients such as His Excellency, Aminu Bello Masari, represented by Alhaji Abdulkadir Karfi; Dr. Mrs. Elisabeth Jack-Rich Tein Jr and others.

The hotel was honoured with the prestigious award at a ceremony hosted by Kulm Hotel St. Moritz in Switzerland. Awards on the night were bestowed on luxury properties that excelled within their service delivery areas on a country, regional, continent or global level.

The 5-star hotel’s Asian specialty restaurant, The Oriental, was also recently honoured with the World Luxury Restaurant Award 2017 prize in the Asian cuisine category for African continent.     Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, has received the Signum Virtutis (Seal of Excellence) in the Hotels and Resorts Category of the 2017 Seven Stars Luxury Hospitality and Lifestyle Awards, the second of such award, having received similar one last year.

    This year, Transcorp Hilton made it double, as it was also conferred with the leader in luxury hospitality innovation in Nigeria, given the $100m renovation project , which has successfully delivered world-class experience in some of its floors with over 60 per cent of work done. The Award Gala event took place at the exclusive private members’ country club in Greece, the Ecali Club, last weekend.

    Transcorp Hilton wins five World Travel awards

    Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, has won five awards at the 23rd World Travel Awards for the second consecutive year.

    The hotel, which is owned by Transcorp Hotels Plc, the hospitality subsidiary of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria, won the prestigious World Travel Awards for Africa’s Leading Business Hotel, Nigeria’s Leading Business Hotel and the Nigeria’s Leading Hotel.

    Others are Nigeria’s Leading MICE Hotel and Nigeria’s Leading Hotel Suite (the Presidential Suite).

    The awards were announced at the Africa and Indian Ocean Gala ceremony 2016 hosted by Diamonds La Gemma Dell’est on the northern tip of Zanzibar, Tanzania with hundreds of industry leaders in attendance.

    General Manager, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, Etienne Galliez, described the awards as great honour.  ”It is a great privilege and honour to receive World Travel Awards in five categories for the second year in a row. We are delighted that our efforts at delivering world class experiences consistently are recognised and appreciated by our discerning guests.
