    Kogi Governor Wada sets up transition committee

    •Vows to challenge result

    Kogi State Governor Idris Wada yesterday announced the setting up of a transition committee to facilitate handover to a new government.

    Wada, who lost his bid for a second tenure, will hand over to Alhaji Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who won last Saturday’s poll.

    The governor, whose four- year term will end on January 26, vowed to challenge the result of the election.

    He said the committee, to be headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede, is expected to manage the process leading to the hand over on January 27.

    The committee, Wada noted, is to work with a

    similar committee by the APC to ensure a smooth transition.

    He also set up a steering committee to be headed by Deputy Governor Yomi Awoniyi.

    Wada said he would challenge the result of the election in court.

    He was addressing Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) stakeholders at a meeting in Lokoja.

    Wada said he wanted to seek interpretation of the law and relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act in connection with the election.

    We are ready for questions on handover notes – Sambo

    Vice-President Namadi Sambo has expressed the readiness of members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to clarify any issue in the handover notes.

    He made the remark on Monday while presenting copies of the handover notes to the Ahmed Joda led All Progressives Congress (APC) Transition committee at the State House, Abuja.

    He said the report comprises the activities of the Federal Government between 2011 and 2015.

    He said: “The handover notes of the Federal Government of Nigeria of this administration between 2011 and 2015 have been properly articulated and printed.”

    “The Permanent Secretaries of each ministry have signed each page of this report to authenticate it and it is our pleasure to present it to you and pray that it will guide you, guide the incoming administration towards the achievement of positive objectives, development and progress of Nigeria.”

    “And I want to add that all of us are always available, after this report between now and May 29, anytime you need to meet with us. We are ready to come and sit down and clarify it.”

    “All the (Ministries, Departments and Agencies) MDAs will also be ready to meet with you, give you any additional information or clarification that you would want to have on this report that we are presenting.”

    He thanked members of the two transition committees for their support and contributions.

    Speaking at the ceremony, Joda said his committee would examine the report before final submission to the incoming administration.

    He said: “It is my honour and privilege to receive this comprehensive set of report from the government transition committee which was chaired by the vice-president.”

    “It appears that nothing has been left out. It is now our challenge to give careful study and examination of what is contained in these volumes.”

    He said his committee is duty bound to ensure continuity in government, governance, for the general progress of the nation.

    Transition committee in Ogun

    Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has inaugurated a transition committee.

    The committee  has seven sub-committees, including media, programme content, protocol, entertainment, logistics, security and venue management.

    It also has a coordinating committee headed by the Deputy Governor-elect, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga.

    Secretary to the State Government Taiwo Adeoluwa, Head of Service Mrs. Modupe Adekunle and Chief of Staff are members.

    The governor, who performed the inauguration in his Oke-Mosan office, urged the members to leverage on their professional capacity to come up with a ceremony that will be a reference point.

    He said the ceremony would not be elaborate because of the economic situation in the country.

    “It should be of Ogun standard and reflect on our selfless service.”

    The heads of the committees are Remi Adetayo (Media); Mrs. Oluwande Muoyo (Programme Content); Mrs. Yewande Amusan (Protocol); Mrs. Funmi Ajayi (Entertainment); Alhaji Teju Kareem (Logistics); Lekan Adegbite (Venue Management) and Olayinka Balogun (Security).

    Ahead of the May 29 swearing-in date of a new administration, the governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji, has inaugurated a 15-man transition committee that will usher in the incoming government of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, with a charge to be thorough in the discharge of its  duty.

    Speaking while inaugurating the committee in Umuahia, Governor Orji said they are expected to supervise the transition that will bring in the new government.

    Orji said that the elections are over, adding that the next step for his administration is to ensure that there is a smooth transition that is devoid of rancour for the even development of the state and its people.

    He noted that the administration has kept faith with the people.

    “This administration has succeeded in the accomplishment of ensuring that there is equity, justice and fair play through having a governor of Ukwa/Ngwa extraction.”

    The governor said that the transition committee, which has one woman, Mrs Chinedu Brown, is to be headed by the Secretary to the State Government [SSG] Prof Mkpa Agu Mkpa , stressing that they should ensure a smooth transition.

    The governor urged the committe to be thorough in the execution of its assignment, saying  “Every one of you has all it takes to do a good job for the state and its people before the handover date.”

    Speaking on behalf of the members,  the chairman of the committee, Prof Mkpa, thanked the governor for finding them worthy for the task, adding that all the members are competent for the job they have accepted.

    Mkpa assured that the committee will do its job very well, promising not to disappoint the government. He, however, pleaded with the governor to urge his commissioners, including the governor’s office to avail the committee with facts necessary for a successful work.

    President elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Wednesday inaugurated the much awaited transition committee with a warning to members not be on a fault finding mission, but to study the hand over notes and advise him on how to avoid the mistakes of the past.

    The 19 -member committee headed by a retired Permanent Secretary and elder statesman, Alhaji Ahmed Joda has as members, the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun,, Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi and former Abia State governor, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who will serve as the Vice Chairman.

    Other members are – former Kaduna State governor, Brig. Gen, Lawal Ja’afaru Isah, former Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh, former Petroleum Resources Minister, Prof. Tam David West and former Chairman of the National Population Commission, Chief Festus Odimegwu.

    Also included are – National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Director of Organisation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Boss Mustapha as well as Dr. Doyin Salami, Adamu Adamu, Chief Wale Edun, Mrs. Bola Adesola, Mrs. Nike Aboderin, Senator Ahmadu Serika, Alhaji Abubakar Malami, Mohammed Hayatudeen and  Barrister Solomon Dalung.

    Speaking while inaugurating the committee, Buhari told them to bear in mind that they were not in a fault finding mission, but to go for the facts as what has been done in the past cannot be undone,

    “I thank you all collectively and individually for accepting to serve on this committee at a very short notice. The change from one government to another always involves complicated operational challenges and we all know that government is a continuum.

    “But the incoming government needs to know where the previous government stopped so that it can know where to continue. Luckily, you are all outstanding men and women of competence and experience in different fields.

    “This assignment, onerous though, it is well within your ability to accomplish. You are enquired to assess the information provided to you and advise me on its quality and accuracy,” the President-elect told the committee members.

    May 29: Transition committee begins work

    To facilitate smooth handing over of government on May 29th from the incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan (Peoples Democratic Party) to the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (All Progressives Congress), the Transition Committee on Monday started its assignment.

    Jonathan had conceded defeat to Buhari in the March 28th Presidential election.

    The maiden meeting of the committee chaired by Vice President Namadi Sambo started few minutes past 12noon on Monday at the Vice President’s conference room.

    Among those at the meeting are the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, Head of Service of the Federation, Daniel Kifasi.

    Others include the Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda and the Minister of Police Affairs, Jelil Adesinyan, NAFDAC DG, Paul Orhii.
