    Troops neutralise five terrorists, 44 surrender in Borno

    The Nigerian Army said its troops have in a series of coordinated counter-insurgency operations neutralised five terrorists, while 44 others surrendered to the troops on Monday in Borno.

    The Nigerian army made this known in a post on its official X Handle on Tuesday.

    It said the troops also recovered bombs, arms, ammunition, and rustled cattle as well as apprehended some criminal suspects during the operations.

    According to the post, troops had on Monday conducted a raid operation on an Islamic West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists’ enclave in the Bama Local Government Area(LGA) of Borno.

    “In the operation, troops neutralised five terrorists and recovered two Rocket Propel Gun (RPG) bombs, two dane guns and one RPG bomb charger.

    “Also recovered were: One AK-47 Rifle Magazine, 23 rounds of 7.62 x 54 mm ammunition, six motorcycles and assorted medications.

    “Meanwhile, following sustained offensive operations against terrorist groups in the North-East Theatre, 44 Boko Haram terrorists and their families have surrendered to troops at Bama, Dikwa and Gwoza LGAs of the state,” it said.

    The post also revealed that the troops apprehended a notorious cattle rustler, Malam Maawuya Shuaibu, at Mararaban Kantom in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau.

    It said the suspect had been on the watch list of the security agencies in connection with criminal activities in the general area of Barikin Ladi, Riyom and Mangu LGA of the state.

    Army said the suspect was nabbed when the vigilant troops responded to credible intelligence on the suspect’s illicit activities and recovered 32 rustled cows from him.

    In Bayelsa, it said the  troops conducted raid operations into suspected criminal hideouts in Korokorosie Community of Southern Ijaw LGA, and apprehended one Mr Donald Emason.

    According to the post, troops recovered one revolver pistol, and two locally fabricated guns concealed by the suspect.

    In Oyo State, the post revealed that troops deployed to Akinyele LGA apprehended a suspected gun runner, Mohammed Bello (33).

    According to the post, the suspect, who was picked up from his hideout, confessed to be one of the couriers supplying arms and ammunition to Bello Chikidawoje’s kidnap syndicate operating in the general area.

    “These successful operations demonstrate the Nigerian army’s commitment to combating terrorism, criminality and other security challenges across the country,” it added. (NAN)

    In a bid to stamp out economic sabotage in the Niger Delta, troops of 6 Division, Nigerian Army have intensified the war against illegal oil activities in the Niger Delta.

    It was gathered that the troops carried out a clearance operation at the fringes of the Imo River, a thickly forested area known to be a haven for illegal bunkering activities.

    The Acting Deputy Director 6 Division, Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, confirmed at the weekend that the area, where the operation took place, is a border between Abia and Rivers States.

    He said the place was concealed from air reconnaissance as criminals engaged in large scale economic sabotage without being detected easily.

    Danjuma said the intelligence-led operation was conducted by 29 Battalion in conjunction with other security agencies.

    He said the operation led to the successful deactivation of over 13 illegal refining sites, with massive dugouts.

    He said seven of the dugouts were filled with over 250,000 litres of stolen crude, 10,000 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), as well as other associated products.

    Danjuma also confirmed that troops of 2 Brigade, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a Toyota Bus with Reg No UYY 962 MJ, at Abeapo Community along Road Onna – Eket in Onna LGA of Akwa Ibom State.

    “The bus was conveying over 20 bags of products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil, estimated to be over 1000 litres. Three suspects have been arrested in connection to the crime and are currently being interrogated,” he said.

    He added: “The General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Jamal Abdussalam, commended troops for the successes recorded.

    “He called on the criminal elements in the region to embrace legitimate means of livelihood or be ready to face the full wrath of the law. He also called on them to shun any act capable of sabotaging critical national infrastructures and assets.”

    Troops uncover massive facilities for storing illegally refined products in Rivers, Bayelsa

    Troops from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army have confiscated a large storage facility with 200,000 litres of illegally refined petroleum products in Bayelsa and Rivers states.

    In Bayelsa, Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, acting deputy director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, reported that the discovery was made at Dasaba Creek.

    Danjuma explained that at the creek, one Illegal refining site, one oven, and a massive metal reservoir containing products suspected to be stolen crude oil estimated at over 110,000 litres were uncovered by the troops.

    In Rivers State, the troops intercepted the siphoning of 33,000 liters of crude oil.

    “The operation was painstakingly conducted by troops, who traced an interconnected hose to a tank far behind the fence in the bush.

    “Several items were also recovered from the sites. These include two pumping machines, a long hose, and eleven drums used to perpetrate criminality in the general area”, he said.

    Danjuma said troops of 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, while on routine patrols, successfully intercepted trucks ladened with products suspected to be stolen crude in Delta State.

    He said: “The arrest was made at Seplat Energy Nigeria Ltd trunkline, Mosogar. During the operation, the truck was discovered to have over 30000 litres of stolen products. The truck has been handled in line with the subsisting mandate of OPDS in the NDR region”.

    He said troops of 16 Brigade, Nigerian Army, intercepted a truck with Reg No Delta UDH 983 XR along the road of Elebele-Emeyal in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

    He said: “The truck was also ladened with over 30000 litres of products suspected to be stolen crude. Also, troops deployed at Cawthorne Channel 1, in conjunction with other security agencies successfully deactivated one illegal refining site with over 5500 litres of products suspected to be stolen crude. The site was located close to Well Head 8, behind Glisten Community in Degema LGA, Rivers State.

    “The breakthroughs recorded are in addition to other seizures made within the general area. Four suspects have so far been arrested along Udoni Obiafu in Onne LGA.

    “The suspects are, Freedom Effiong, Behaviour Power, Timothy Onyebuchi and Lovetg Ifeanyi. They will be handed over to relevant agencies for prosecution.

    “These feats are results of the renewed effort by troops to effectively clamp down on economic saboteurs and their collaborators.

    “Accordingly, members of the public are please enjoined to provide actionable intelligence on the activities of these economic saboteurs in their vicinity to security agencies.”

    Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF)’s Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) have clamped down on many illegal bunkering sites in the forests of Delta and Rivers states.

    The operations, which led to some discoveries, were said to be in line with the Federal Government’s orders to security chiefs to end economic sabotage, especially oil theft.

    In a statement, the Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, said the illegal sites were uncovered following credible intelligence.

    Danjuma said the operatives identified and destroyed three sites at Odagwa in Etche Local Government Area (LGA).

    “The operation led to the confiscation and subsequent destruction of over 30,000 litres of stolen and illegally refined products,” he said.

    He said at Akaso field down to Cawthorne channel, around Well 9, troops clamped down on one illegal refinery, three  receivers and massive connecting pipes traversing the terrain to convey stolen crude to the site.

    Danjuma said other items were also confiscated and destroyed at the sites in line with the mandate of OPDS.

    He said: “Similarly, in Bayelsa State, troops of Sector 2, while conducting routine operations in the creeks, waterways and rivulets along Dasaba Creek in Nembe LGA, confiscated over 12,000 litres of stolen and illegally refined products.

    “Other Items recovered at the IRS include one fibre boat, five ovens, several metal drums as well as massive reservoirs used as storage facilities for this illegal venture.

    “While commending troops for the renewed vigour, the General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander, Maj.-Gen. Jamal Abdussalam charged them to redouble their efforts in denying these criminal elements free of action in the NDR.

    The troops of the land component, Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), have clamped down on many illegal bunkering sites located in the forests of Delta and Rivers states.

    The operations, which led to some discoveries, were said to be in line with the federal government’s marching orders to security chiefs to end all forms of economic sabotage, especially oil theft.

    Troops neutralise 572 terrorists, apprehend 790 suspects in July – DHQ

    The Defense Headquarters says Troops neutralised 572 terrorists and rescued 479 kidnapped hostages across the country in July.

    The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, made this known in a statement in Abuja yesterday.

    The troops, according to Buba, recovered 440 weapons, 10,589 ammunition comprising 232 AK-47 rifles, 93 locally fabricated guns and 82 Dane guns.

    He added that troops also recovered 32 pump action guns, 5,041 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 2,768 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 659 cartridges, 63 assorted arms and 2,259 assorted ammunition.

    In the North East, the Director of Defence Media Operations said troops of Operation Hadin Kai, neutralised 254 terrorists, arrested  167 suspects and rescued 80 kidnapped hostages as well as surrendering 3,976 surrendered BH/ISWAP terrorists combatants and their families.

    He added that a total of 106 AK47 rifles, 36 fabricated rifles, 29 dane guns, 17 assorted arms, 1,644 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 968 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 1,379 assorted ammunition were recovered.

    In the North Central, Buba said the troops of Operation Safe Haven neutralised 50 terrorist/ violent extremist, apprehended 135 suspects and rescued 80 kidnapped hostages within the month.

    He added that the troops also recovered 32 AK47 rifles, 28 fabricated guns, 27 assorted arms, 773 rounds of 7.62mm special, 200 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 178 assorted ammunition.

    Under Operation Whirl Stroke, he said the troops neutralised 24 terrorists, apprehended 56 suspects and rescued 59 kidnapped hostages, as well as recovery of cache of assorted arms and ammunition.

    In the North West, Buba said the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji neutralised 152 terrorists, apprehended 102 suspects and rescued 144 kidnapped hostages in July.

    He added that the troops also recovered 48 AK47 rifles, 24 fabricated guns, five assorted arms, 1,462 rounds of 7.62mm special, 1,079 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 94 assorted ammunition.

    Under Operation Whirl Punch, Buba said the troops neutralised 66 terrorists, arrested 76 suspects and rescued 97 kidnaped hostages as well as recovery of 24 AK47 rifles, 737 rounds of 7.62mm special, 281 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 45 assorted ammunition.

    In the South-South, Buba said the troops of Operation Delta Safe, apprehended 137 suspected crude oil thieves, recovered 3.6 million litres of crude oil, 625,518 litres of AGO, 450 litres of DPK and 1,230 litres of PMS.

    In the South East, Buba said the troops of Operation UDO KA, neutralised 26 terrorists, apprehended 117 suspects and rescued 19 kidnaped hostages.

    According to him, troops recovered 18 AK47 rifles, 29 pump action guns, 372 rounds of 7.62mm special, 178 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 504 live cartridges, 26 assorted arms, 475 assorted ammunition and 49 other equipment.

    Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have recovered arms and ammunition from communities in the Fann District of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

    Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Third Division, Nigerian Army, Major Aliyu Danja, who led reporters to the community, said seven suspects were also arrested during the operations.

    It was learnt that an attack on operatives of the OPSH, which led to the killing of an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration, Christopher Luka Agwom, on July 10 was the incident that provoked the raid on the community.

    Maj. Danja said: “The arrest and recovery of the cache of weapons followed an operation conducted by a tactical team drawn from the 3rd Div. of the Nigerian Army and OPSH troops.

    “Our tactical team conducted an operation to recover arms from a gunrunners’ hideout at Sangasa community in Fann District, but we were attacked by the suspects in the early hours of July 10.’’

    He added: “3 Division and Operation Safe Haven, in pursuance of one of its core operational mandates of mopping up illegal arms and ammunition from the hands of unauthorised persons conducted operations at Fann District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State from July 10-16.”

    “It would be recalled that a tactical team of 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven while conducting an operation to recover arms from a gunrunner’s hideout at Sangasa Village in Fann District was attacked in the early hours of July 10.’’

    Troops on operation against oil thieves and other maritime crimes in the Niger Delta region have recovered 1,l25,440 litres of stolen crude oil, 213,539 litres of illegally refined diesel, and 1,230 litres of petrol.

    The troops also destroyed 57 illegal refining sites and arrested 26 oil thieves.

    The Director of Defence Media Operations Maj-Gen Edward Buba announced this in a statement on Thursday, July 11, during a press briefing at the Defence Headquarters Abuja.

    Speaking on military successes in other theatres of operation in the past week, Buba said troops killed 187 terrorists and arrested 183 suspected criminals

    He said troops rescued 109 kidnap victims and recovered 128 assorted weapons and 3,300 assorted ammunition.

    The weapons recovered, according to the Defence spokesperson, include one PKT gun, 80 AK47 rifles, 15 locally fabricated guns, 15 dane guns, two FN rifles, five pump action guns, two single barrel guns, four locally fabricated pistols, one fabricated barretta pistol, one locally made double barrel gun, 2 hand grenades, two primed improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) and materials.

    He said the ammunition included: 1,941 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 729 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 377 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm, 191 rounds of 5.55mm ammo, 199 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammo, 16 rounds of 9mm ammo, 26 live cartridges, 26 empty case of cartridges, and 26 AK47 magazines, among other items.”

    • Body of wanted ‘abductor’ recovered

    Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with other security agencies, have arrested three kidnappers and rescued two of their victims in Lau Local Government Area.

    They also discovered the body of one of the “most wanted  terrorists that operated in Southern Taraba”.

    In a statement, its Spokesman of the Brigade, Lt. O. Oni, said the operation “was based on thorough intelligence gathering and surveillance” and “after a gunfight that forced the gang to flee, abandoning their hostages at their hideouts at Adamu Katibu Mountain in Lau Local Government Area, Taraba State.

    The statement identifies the suspects as Haruna Buba (20), Hassan Kakale and Hussaini Kakale (both 28) and the rescued victims as Hauwa’u Alh.aji Umaru and Asma’u Alh Umaru, who were abducted on July 7, 2024.

    They are being interrogated and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution while the troops continue to trail terrorists’ groups. The victims were also taken to headquarters of the  Brigade for support and handed over to their families.

    The statement reads: “During the handover of the victims to their families, Brig.-Gen Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander 6 Brigade/ Sector 3 OPWS, commended the troops for their bravery and precision. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to the safety and security of Taraba State residents.”
