Party chieftain, colleagues mourn Ogun APC spokesman Oladunjoye

In an outpouring of emotions, party chieftains, colleagues, and associates have mourned the passing of Comrade Tunde Oladunjoye, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ogun State chapter.

Oladunjoye died in the United Kingdom after a brief illness, aged 58.

The state chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi,  expressed sadness over the demise of the Publicity Secretary, Com. Tunde Oladunjoye, describing him as a “pragmatic and loyal party man.”

Announcing his death on Saturday morning, Chief Sanusi said that the late Oladunjoye was always ready to stretch himself beyond the convenience threshold to achieve the party’s goal. He lamented that his exit was a great loss to APC, his family, and Ogun State at large.

He prayed to the Almighty Allah to grant the deceased Aljanah Fridaus, bless and prosper the family that he left behind and also fortify the party leadership and followers against untimely death.

Sanusi said: “With total submission to the will of Almighty God,  I announce the sudden departure of our State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Tunde Oladunjoye.

“I can recall that our paths crossed in 2018 when our party leadership appointed him, Mr Ayo Olubori, and my humble self as Caretaker Committee for Ogun APC. Ever since then, I have known Tunde to be an irredentist, pragmatic, and loyal party man who is ready to stretch himself beyond the convenience threshold to achieve the party’s goal.

Also, the Publicity Secretaries of APC in the Southwest have expressed deep sadness over the sudden passing of their colleague, Alhaji Tunde Oladunjoye.

The conference in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Alex Kalejaye, described the news of his demise as shocking and devastating because he looked healthy and sound during our recent meeting.

”The departed politician and administrator was a successful journalist, courageous democrat, and loyal member of our great Party whose transition at this critical time has left a void that will be difficult to fill.”

”The conference expressed appreciation to the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Dapo Abiodun, for making frantic and sincere efforts aimed at saving the life of our colleague.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his immediate family, the Government and people of Ogun State, and the Muslim community, where he served with uncommon zeal during his lifetime,” Kalejaye said.

The zonal group, which comprises Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, and Ekiti States, further prayed that Allah would overlook the late Oladunjoye’s errors and grant his soul eternal rest.

In a tribute entitled ”How not to say goodbye” posted on his social media handle, a friend and classmate of the deceased, Barrister Austin Oniyokor wrote: ”How can I put my thoughts together when a part of me is gone? My friend, brother and benefactor, Comrade Ambassador Tunde Ayinde Oladunjoye (CATO) is gone the way of all mortals! But, how could this have happened so soon and suddenly? Yes, the surprise element may be like death. But, it should not have been CATO!

”Yes, he was a part of me. Ours was a relationship formed about 28 years ago at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba-Ikeja, Lagos. Although I was a year ahead of CATO at NIJ, I was attracted to him by his activism, brilliance, and bluntness.

”During the struggle for the accreditation of the programmes, you brought to bear your contacts in the human rights community such that Mr. Femi Falana, SAN; Mr. Nurudeen Ogbara, Mr. Olalekan Ojo, and others handled our matter pro bono.

”Since then, we have been together as brothers and friends, sharing a lot – personally and professionally. Even when we belonged to different camps or disagreed on issues and our approach to them, we always knew where to draw the lines such that our relationship, which was formed long ago as young student-activist, was not affected.

‘’You were always there for as many whose paths crossed with yours. It was not that you were rich in naira and kobo. Indeed, you showed that being generous is not a function of how rich you are in naira and kobo. Rather, it is a function of how compassionate you are. You were ever giving, always willing and ready to put smiles on people’s faces.”

  • Ogun APC to banks: don’t approve Amosun’s loan requests

The Ogun State Chapter of All Progressives Congress ( APC ) has warned banks and other financial institutions not to yield to threats and pressures from the out – going Governor Ibikunle Amosun to obtain last-minute loans, overdrafts and other financial instruments barely two months to the end of his tenure.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday by its publicity secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, the party warned that any institution that grants such requests “does so at its own risk”.

The press statement reads: “It has come to our notice that the outgoing governor has been exerting pressures on banks and financial institutions to grant frivolous loans, overdrafts and other instruments immediately Prince Dapo Abiodun was declared Governor-Elect.”

“We are equally aware that files and other sensitive governments’ documents are being moved out of government offices on the order of the outgoing Governor, His Excellency, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.”

“It is therefore important to let it be known to the concerned public officers that it is part of their duties to protect public properties, including files, documents and information at their disposal.

“As anything contrary to this will be running foul of the laws and their oath of office. The allegiance of the civil servants is to Ogun State and not to any individual, no matter who.

“As for the banks, we want to state categorically that the incoming administration believes so much in the rule of law and due process. Therefore, the administration will not honour any obligation that did not follow due process or any loans that did not receive the prior approval of the State House of Assembly.

“According to the Federal Bureau of Statistics, Ogun State’s Internally Generated Revenue has increased by 590 per cent in eight years totaling N74, 835, 979, 000.51 (seventy four billion, eight hundred and thirty five million, nine hundred seventy nine thousand naira and fifty one kobo).

“Why the outgoing administration still wants “injury-time” loans despite those already incurred, beats one’s imagination and leaves much to be desired. The incoming administration will not honour such shady loans.”

  • Amosun’s suspension long overdue, says Ogun APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC), in Ogun State has hailed the suspension of Governor Ibikunle Amosun, by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), describing it as a thing that is “long overdue.”

In a press statement in Abeokuta on Friday by the APC Ogun Caretaker Committee’s Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, the party stated that it received the suspension slammed on Amosun wholeheartedly.

The statement reads: “we received the NWC’s decision wholeheartedly and we say it is long overdue.

“Governor Amosun’s actions constitute a huge demonstration of ingratitude and party disloyalty.

“We are calling on the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party to go ahead and expel Governor Amosun from the party without further delay.

“This will teach him a lesson and serve as deterrent to people who may want to follow his inglorious path.”

  • Amosun deserves our sympathy – Ogun APC

The Ogun State Chapter of the  All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday said outgoing  Governor Ibikunle  Amosun deserves  pity and prayer over alleged recent  anti – Prince Dapo Abiodun comment, which the party added, portrayed the Governor as one suffering from exit fear.

The Governor had reportedly claimed the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate, Abdulkabir Akinlade, would defeat his party gubernatorial candidate, Dapo Abiodun, in the March 2019 governorship polls.

Reacting through a statement by the Publicity Secretary to the Ogun APC State Executive Caretaker Committee, Comrade Tunde Oladunjoye, and made available to The Nation, APC said Amosun actually deserves sympathy and not condemnation, stressing that he has lost touch with political reality in the Gateway State.

    The statement reads in part:

“But for the fact that the reported outbursts of the governor were reported by a credible online medium, we would not have taken him serious; and for the fact that friends in the media have been asking for response, we would not have reacted.”

“However, rather than exchange words with the governor, we would call on members of the public  to please sympathize with the governor and pray for him, as he is obviously manifesting outgoing syndrome resulting from political amnesia, loss of touch with reality and fear of life after office.

“For an individual to attempt to play God, and assault the collective intelligence of the well informed people of Ogun State by telling them who the next governor of Ogun State will be, as if he has already written the results, shows that such person deserves our pity; we don’t need to exchange words with him, but to actually sympathize with him on his present state of paranoia on Prince Dapo Abiodun.”

“The constant, unceasing and monotonous attack on Dapo Abiodun by the governor and his minions shows that our candidate is the leading contestant and his imminent victory is only a matter of weeks.

“We challenge the governor to publish the recent survey he commissioned and which he read to some leaders in his house last week, wherein it was revealed that his preferred governorship candidate will not only lose the election, but also lose in the governor’s hitherto strongholds of Ifo, Ewekoro and Ado Odo Ota local governments.”

“Our party and candidate will remain focused, maintain decorum and continue to sell out policies and programmes to the good and discerning people of Ogun State, even as we are sure of victory.

  • No comment on Jonathan’s letter, says Obasanjo

No comment on Jonathan’s letter, says Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has foreclosed any reaction to President Goodluck Jonathan’s reply to his highly controversial open letter.

Dr. Jonathan replied Obasanjo’s letter on Sunday, denying the claims made by the ex-President in his December 2 letter.

Among the allegations by Obasanjo is that 1,000 Nigerians are on a political watch list and that snipers are being trained ahead of the 2015 elections.

Apart from denying the allegations, Dr. Jonathan said he had referred the matter to security agencies for probe.

Yesterday, Obasanjo said though he had been inundated with enquiries, “he does not wish to make further comments beyond the contents of his last letter”.

He spoke through the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2011 governorship polls in Ogun State, Mr. Tunde Oladunjoye.

Obasanjo said: “Since the publication of the letter written by the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, which was in response to the letter earlier written by revered former President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, we have received several requests from local and international media, asking to know Chief Obasanjo’s reaction to Mr. President’s response.

One, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, acknowledges Mr. President’s letter/response.

“However, Baba, as he already indicated in his letter of December 2, 2013, does not wish to make further comments beyond the contents of his last letter to Mr. President or react to the said letter/response from Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

“Let me quote from page 14, paragraph two of Chief Obasanjo’s letter to Mr. President dated December 2, 2013 and titled Before It Is Too Late: ‘I will maintain my serenity, because by this letter I have done my duty to you as I have always done, to your government, to the party, PDP, and to our country, Nigeria.’

“Two, let me reiterate here, that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has tremendous respect for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Finally, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo sincerely appreciates all of you, my cherished colleagues; gentlemen of the media profession, who have been very upright, ethical and robust on the subject matter.”
