PDP State chairmen back Turaki-led faction

The Forum of State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thrown its weight behind the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee(NWC) of the party elected at the National convention in November.

In a statement in Abuja, the Forum drawn from 30 States of the Federation, said despite the judgement of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, the Turaki led Executive remains the legal leadership of the party, pointing out that the judgement was only one of several distractions the party is facing and will soon overcome.

The statement was signed by the

Chairman of Forum of PDP State Chairmen &

Chairman, PDP in  Edo State, Tony Aziegbemi and the Secretary of the Forum and Chairman of Kaduna State Chairman, Chief Edward Masha

The statement reads: “The Forum of State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), comprising the Chairmen of the Party in 30 States of the Federation, has carefully reviewed the judgment delivered today by the Federal High Court, Ibadan, as well as the official position of our great Party as articulated by the National Chairman, His Excellency, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.

“We wish to unequivocally express our total solidarity and unflinching support for the National Chairman and the entire National Working Committee (NWC) as constituted by the Ibadan National Convention.

“The Forum notes with concern that the judgment in question declined the relief of mandamus sought by the Party, while proceeding to grant reliefs that were neither prayed for nor canvassed by any of the parties before the court.

“We further note that the said judgment stands in material conflict with subsisting judgments and orders of courts of coordinate jurisdiction on the same subject matter.

“It is therefore reassuring that the Party has already exercised its constitutional right of appeal and filed the appropriate motions for stay of execution, in line with established legal principles and democratic norms.

“We align fully with the position of the National Working Committee under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) that this judgment represents only one step in an ongoing judicial process, especially as the substantive issues are already before the Court of Appeal for determination.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Forum of PDP State Chairmen affirms that the National Working Committee produced by the Ibadan Convention remains the lawful, recognised, and operational leadership of our Party, and continues to enjoy the confidence and loyalty of PDP structures across the 30 states of the Federation.

“We urge all party members, supporters, and stakeholders nationwide to remain calm, focused, and united. There is no vacuum in the leadership of our Party, and there is absolutely no cause for panic.

“The PDP has weathered difficult moments in the past and has always emerged stronger. This moment is no exception. What we are witnessing is merely one of the judicial turns in our democratic journey — not the destination itself.

“The Forum remains fully committed to the REBIRTH and rebuilding of the Peoples Democratic Party, and we reaffirm our collective resolve to strengthen party unity, deepen internal democracy, and reposition the PDP as the credible alternative capable of rescuing Nigeria.

“As we have always known, facts may be distorted, but truth is constant- and it will surely prevail. We stand firmly with the National Chairman, the National Working Committee, and the millions of Nigerians who continue to believe in the ideals of our great Party”.

PDP leadership dispute: Court to hear Turaki-led faction’s motion for stay Jan 23

A Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled a hearing for January 23 on the application for stay of further proceedings filed by the Kabiru Turaki-led leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against a suit by a faction of the party loyal to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik chose the date after she turned down a request by the plaintiffs’ lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), to be allowed to reply on point of law orally.

The judge said it was not her practice to take lawyers’ submissions on long hand and ordered Ikpeazu to file a formal response.

The other faction of the PDP and its acting National Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, alongside Senator Samuel Anyanwu, had filed the suit.

They are seeking, among others, an order of injunction, restraining the Turaki-led leadership (fifth to 25 defendants) from parading themselves as representatives of the PDP in any capacity whatsoever.

The plaintiffs also prayed the court to stop the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Department of State Services (DSS) from allowing Turaki-led leadership access to the party’s national secretariat at Wadara Plaza in Abuja.

They also sought an order of injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting any other office address or any other address from the Turaki-led leadership as PDP’s office address other than as already contained in the commission’s records, among other reliefs.

The plaintiffs seek an order declaring that INEC, the police, and the DSS are constitutionally bound to enforce and give full effect to the decisions of the Federal High Court in the earlier judgments and rulings delivered by Justice James Omotosho and Justice Peter Lifu (also of the Federal High Court, Abuja) on the last national convention of the party held in Ibadan.

At the last proceedings on December 5, Justice Abdulmalik ordered parties not to take any action pending the hearing and determination of the suit, a decision the Turaki-led PDP appealed against at the Court of Appeal.

When the case was called yesterday, Ikpeazu reminded the court that the matter was adjourned for the hearing of all pending applications.

Lawyer to the Turaki-led faction of the PDP, Chris Uche (SAN), told the court that his client had appealed the court’s decision on December 5 and that the appeal had been entered, records transmitted, and an appeal number assigned.

Uche said: “We filed an appeal against my lord’s decision, and we have a duty to report to your lordship that the appeal has now been entered in the Court of Appeal numbered: CA/ABJ/CV/1770/2025.

“We have also filed an affidavit of facts of entering the appeal to bring to your knowledge the entry of the appeal.

“Records have been fully transmitted and the plaintiffs are very much aware and have taken steps to file processes in the appeal,” he said.

Uche, who said the processes were already before the court, added that a motion for stay of further proceedings in the suit pending the appeal had also been filed.

According to him, it is trite and beyond dispute that once an appeal has been entered, the trial court is ceased to take further proceedings or further hearing in the suit.

He prayed the court to stay proceedings pending the determination of their appeal and urged the court to adjourn the matter sine die (indefinitely).

Ikpeazu argued against Uche’s request for a stay of further proceedings.

He urged the court to continue with the proceedings, having earlier made an order to take all the pending applications.

When the judge asked him if he had been served with the application for stay and whether he had filed a response, Ikpeazu said he was only served the previous day.

The lawyer chose to reply orally on the point of law, a choice the judge rejected, and ordered him to file a formal response.

Justice Abdulmalik adjourned till January 23 for the hearing of the application for stay of proceedings.

    • Commission: we won’t make changes in party’s leadership now

Few days after it met with the rival factions in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declined a request by the Tanimu Turaki-led faction for recognition.

But the Turaki-led faction accused the electoral umpire of colluding with those bent on killing the opposition party.

INEC told the faction through a memo that it would not make any change in the leadership of the party until all cases in court challenging the national convention have been determined.

At a meeting on December 19, the commission told both factions that it would await the outcome of the cases in court before recognising any group laying claim to the leadership of the party.

The electoral body followed its stand with a December 22 memo signed by its Secretary, Dr. Rose Oriaran-Anthony.

In the memo, INEC told the Turaki-led faction it would neither recognise nor post online the list of “national officers” who emerged from the November 15-16, 2025 national convention in Ibadan.

The commission said any move to accept factional executives with the pending court cases would breach the subsisting judgments it is bound to respect, hence, the resolve to await the courts’ decisions.

In the letter addressed to Akintayo Balogun & Co, PDP’s counsel, the commission said the issue of the party’s leadership remains sub-judice and therefore cannot take any administrative action that may pre-empt the outcome of the legal processes.

The commission said it would not update its records to reflect any change in the party’s national leadership pending the outcome of ongoing court processes challenging the convention.

The memo reads: “In the light of the above pending suits, your request is prejudiced and cannot be acceded to until the determination of the pending appeals,” the letter reads.

“In the circumstances, and in obedience to the rule of law and subsisting court orders, the commission is unable to accede to the demand to recognise or update the list of the national officers said to have emerged from the PDP national convention of 15th- 16th November 2025.”

    INEC bias

The Turaki-led faction swiftly reacted to the INEC position, accusing it of bias in the crisis rocking the party.

Its National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong accused the electoral umpire of working closely with those who wants to kill the party.

In a statement, Ememobong alleged that the commission failed to, or refused to file documents that were in their possession and within their knowledge, obviously to aid those who are bent on killing the PDP and truncating democracy.

He reminded the commission of the recent Supreme Court judgment in the case of Social Democratic Party (SDP), which provides that the commission has no business in the internal affairs of political party, including their leadership.

The statement reads: “The leadership of the PDP reiterates that in law and fact, there is no faction in the PDP. This reiteration is necessary in the light of the INEC letter explaining their inability to recognise and upload the data of our legitimately elected leadership at the convention in Ibadan due to judgments of the Federal High Court.

“The said judgments have been appealed and an application for the stay of execution filed against the judgments, and very soon the Court of Appeal will hear and give judgment in the matters.”

“While that is being awaited, it is needful to state that INEC monitored and participated in the National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings where the convention date and venue were unanimously agreed and was also in receipt of the notice of the convention- a fact the commission has unconscionably suppressed in court in several cases.

“Furthermore, the primaries in Ekiti and Osun were duly monitored by INEC, with communication emanating from the Turaki-led NWC. While we appreciate the monumental pressure that INEC has come under (after all he who pays the piper dictates the tune), we remind them that their constitutional responsibility is primarily to Nigerians and in the defence and protection of democracy.

“While INEC claims to be neutral and is awaiting the Judgement of the court on the matter, we hope that they are mindful of the judgments of the Supreme Court, especially in the SDP case, being the latest delivered last week, barring INEC from interfering in the internal leadership affairs of political parties.

“The truth remains that there is no faction in the PDP as all the legitimate organs and the administrative structure of the party are under the control of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN).

“In the past one month, the Board of Trustees, Governors Forum, State chairmen, Senate and House of Representatives Caucuses, former governors and ministers and many other notable stakeholder groups have all met with and acknowledged the leadership of the current National Working Committee, led by Turaki SAN.

“INEC must remember that democracy is hinged on majority rule, so the committee of friends of Wike and Anyanwu cannot be validly referred to as a faction of the PDP.

“Finally, having held a meeting with the commission last week, and our correspondence, thereafter, further explaining relevant issues relating to the current situation, we should ordinarily not respond to this letter, except to point out the hypocrisy and consistent bias that has completely coloured the action of the electoral umpire.

“INEC has continuously shown bias in this matter, even in the court, where they failed or refused to file documents that were in their possession and within their knowledge, obviously to aid those who are bent on killing the PDP and truncating democracy.

“If INEC, under the leadership of Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN knew the matter was in court, what was the rationale for the contrived meeting of Friday last week? Except to paint a false perception of faction to justify their actions and inactions.

“We, therefore, urge all Nigerians, particularly our members, to remain calm, resolute and continue to support the rebirth and renaissance moves of the party, as we reposition the party for electoral success in the coming elections.”

…says commission working with those who wants to kill party

The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of bias in the cup crisis rocking the party.

Reacting to a letter from the party explaining why it would not recognise the leadership of the faction, National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong accused the electoral umpire of working closely with those who wants to kill the party.

2027: Turaki, Aliyu, Jang, others hold closed-door meeting with Obasanjo in Abeokuta

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by its chairman, Alhaji Taminu Turaki, on Saturday paid a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, in a move linked to consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Turaki arrived at Obasanjo’s residence alongside former governors of Niger and Plateau states, Alhaji Aliyu Muazu Babangida and Senator Jonah Jang.

The delegation, which arrived at about 11:40 a.m., proceeded into a closed-door meeting with the former president at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta.

Other party chieftains also accompanied the leaders for the meeting.

Turaki-led NWC: PDP governors free to dump party

    • ‘We’re not begging any governor not to leave’

The Taminu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it never begged any of its governors or members not to leave the party, but was reaching out with a view to rebuild the party.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said this on a national television programme last night.

Ememobong said the Tanimu Turaki-led leadership of the party was reaching out to all stakeholders, including the governors.

He explained that while Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who dumped the party for Accord (A), was a victim of circumstance, his Rivers State counterpart was part of the problem that eventually led to his leaving the party.

He said: “In the circumstance that we are, you know that except for the legislature, where the law binds their hands, every executive has the capacity to do anything that would be legal, but immoral. So, we are not begging anybody, but we are reaching out.

“The Turaki-led administration is reaching out, the governors’ forum is reaching out. But you know there’s a thin line between what is illegal and what is immoral.”

Baring his mind on Governor Adeleke’s defection to Accord, Ememobong said the governor was “a victim of circumstance, which is vicarious …because every problem has a human cause and, therefore, should also have a human solution.

“At the level of the leadership, which he belonged to at the party, the party ought to have acted decisively.

“So, it’s vicarious in the sense that strong action by leadership ought to have been taken from 2023, immediately the decline started. But there were negotiations. I mean, you also cannot fully blame them because sometimes you think that with negotiations, when passions are calm, people could reconsider their position.

“But unfortunately, it didn’t until the convention took the decision it did in Ibadan. So, that’s the nature of what has happened. He’s become a victim of circumstances arising from vicarious liabilities which he cannot completely extricate himself from.”

Explaining why he was giving excuses about the Adeleke and Fubara issues, Ememobong said: “No, we’re not giving excuses. We’re saying that both are circumstantial, and even the victims of the circumstances themselves had a role to play in the conflict that eventually engulfed them. So, we’re not making excuses.

“But in the case of Fubara, you do know that Fubara voluntarily became a candidate of the party and you do know that the people who brought him have always said that there were agreements. We’re talking about agreements, and till today, he hasn’t said what the agreement was, but this political party stood by him.

“The point of our anger is really when he mentioned that he wasn’t secure in the platform. We all have great sympathies for Fubara, even as a person. Before becoming a Publicity Secretary, I had sympathies for him. He was a calm, gentle person who is pushed to the wall, who has no other direction to move than in the opposite direction.

“But to attempt to lay the blame other than where the blame ought to be… If you backtrack and look at the origin of the crisis, you know that the origin is between two people. You remember that people rose up at the beginning of this crisis and began to speak for him. After a while, he came out and said: ‘No, no, don’t worry; it’s a father-son matter.’ And after a while, a state of emergency was declared. People started advocating, and he went silent.

“I spoke to some governors, especially Governor Bala Mohammed, asking what happened. Governor Bala Mohammed said: ‘Look, we were ready and we have deployed at some points, but the governor would either remain incommunicado or will say, “Don’t worry, we would handle it.” So, volenti non fit injuria — you cannot do harm to a consenting person.

“So, while he has our sympathies, the attempt to shift blame is what we are very angry with. There’s no need shifting the blame. We know that this is a situation where Stockholm syndrome has happened, where a captive has fallen in love with the captor—we frown against that conscious amnesia where he picks and chooses where the blame should be. He knows where the origin of his problem is”.

Speaking further, the PDP Spokesman said “You do know that people do not enter a crisis until the parties themselves have declared war. So if people have agreements and the agreement is going fine and the state is not suffering, you have no business going into it because you wouldn’t even know there was an agreement.

“But it is when people begin to shout or things begin to happen to suggest that a crisis has occurred, that’s when third parties come in. In this circumstance, even when he went to the meeting with the President, did he consult the party? Did he consult the Governors’ Forum?

“Remember that even after his election as governor, it took a long while for him to even associate with the party. We quite understand that maybe his hands were tied. But immediately you feel the pinch, you begin to call for help.”

Our mission is to reclaim Nigeria from APC, says PDP National Chairman Turaki

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has said the party is on a mission to reclaim power and Nigeria from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

Turaki claimed that the APC destroyed the gains the PDP made during its 16 years in power, from 1999 to 2015.

The PDP national chairman stated that Nigerians have been clamouring for the party’s return to power.

Speaking at a meeting with state chairmen of the party from 29 states, he said the election and inauguration of his leadership marked the beginning of the process of reclaiming power from the ruling party.

Turaki said: “Today, the PDP is on a new mission, and this new mission is to reclaim Nigeria from the inept APC leadership, a leadership that, instead of taking Nigeria progressively forward, is taking us retrogressively backwards. Today, Nigerians are living witnesses that the achievements and progress made during the 16 PDP glorious years have either been destroyed, shattered, or reversed.

“That is why today, whenever Nigerians speak, they beg, they plead. If you can take us anywhere further, please take us back to where we were in 2015. I say to Nigerians out there that we have listened to you. We are not taking you back to 2015 when we left. We will take over power, by the special grace of God, in 2027.

“Thereafter, we will begin the journey to taking Nigeria and Nigerians to the Promised Land. It’s possible, it’s doable, we’ve done it before, and we’re going to do it again.”

He added: “For me, today is a day of fulfilment. Outside there, some people who claim to be members of our party but who indeed the whole world knows are not members of our party, they claim that they have what they call a faction.

“So, when you look at 29 state chairmen sitting with us, with apologies coming from two, then when you also take into account the fact that there were some certain chapters that were dissolved and so do not have leadership constituted presently, which we are planning to do in due course, then tell me, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, who is not here.

Read Also: ‘We have recorded 860 terrorism convictions since 2017,’ says AGF Fagbemi

“If all the state chairmen are here with us, then who is it that is not with us? If all the state chairmen are supporting us, then who, sincerely speaking, can be fighting us? So, this is something for the whole world to see.

“These are known faces, these are veterans in their right, and they are here physically, not virtually, and they are here in person, not via representation. As far as the PDP is concerned, it speaks for itself. People now know where the leadership of PDP is, and people know who the true leaders of the party are. Of course, we are the leaders, the genuine, bona fide leaders of the people.

“In Ibadan, immediately after our swearing-in, I made a promise on behalf of members of the NWC that we are taking this party back to the people, because we believe that what distinguishes the PDP from other political parties is that we allow our people to own the process.

“From the beginning, this is our desire: to take the party back to the people. Then, who are those who will be our better partners in achieving this desire than our state chairmen? The National Organisation Secretary described them as brigade commanders. What we have here is our General Officers Commanding. Under them, we have brigade commanders, the local government chairmen. Under them, we have battalion commanders, the ward chairmen. Under them, we have the platoon commanders, the leaders in the various units of this party.

“The PDP is the only party that has presence in every unit, in every ward, in every local government in this country, and this is verified.

“Now, let me start by thanking our Forum of State Chairmen most sincerely. But I cannot thank you enough on behalf of the members, your members of the NWC. First, you led your army of delegates to go to Ibadan. Number two, you led your army of delegates to believe in us. Then, you convinced your troops to vote for us. And immediately after our election, the first recognised, credible organisation or forum within PDP leadership that congratulated us openly was the Forum of State Chairmen.

“Let me say quite emphatically: your support, your comradeship, is something that we will never take for granted. So, this morning, we’ve invited you as the first group and organ within the PDP family that we’re having an interaction with. Please, therefore, understand the significance that this NWC has with you.

“We believe that the success of our work is contingent upon the amount of understanding and support we get from the Forum of State Chairmen. That is why, very early in the day, we’ve invited you to discuss with you, not only to discuss the handover note by the immediate past leadership of this party, but to lay before you our programme of action and then seek your guidance, seek your views, seek your comments, even your criticisms, because you are the ones that are in the field.

“You stand in a better position to advise us, to guide us on what the expectations of Nigerians are. You are in a better position to advise us on what the feelings and thoughts of Nigerians, especially members of our party, are. But as we begin to roll out what we think is the programme to rescue Nigeria, that will take into account the thinking and the expectations of Nigerians, especially the current members of our party, the PDP.

“This meeting today is not just a housekeeping meeting, but it’s an opportunity for us not only to interface again and to get first-hand report of the state of our party in your various states, but for us to know where we’ve been, where we’re having challenges, the nature and context of those challenges and for us to discuss and agree on what steps we need urgently to address those challenges.”

Those who want to kill PDP will fail, says Turaki

Immediate past chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Iliya Damagum, on Tuesday formally handed over the party’s affairs to the newly elected National Working Committee during the November 15–16 national convention in Ibadan.

At the handover ceremony, the new National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, said his leadership is committed to returning the PDP to the people. He described the party as “the party to beat” in Nigeria and acknowledged ongoing efforts by some to undermine it.

Recalling the commitment of the outgoing leadership, Turaki said, “Immediately after our election at the convention in Ibadan, you promised that you and members of the executive would prepare a comprehensive handover note to help us understand where you were coming from and where you were at the time of your departure, so we could navigate the affairs of this party. Today, as God would have it, that pledge has been fulfilled. We cannot thank you enough for what you have done for us.”

He assured the former leadership of their continued engagement, saying, “We are up to the task. We will continue to take inspiration, guidance, and advice from you. Though you are out, you are not gone. We will need your support and uncommon guidance, because, as the saying goes, the woman who first becomes a mother will certainly have more broken hopes than the one who comes after.”

Turaki emphasised that the outgoing leadership still has much to contribute toward elevating the PDP to the highest level it aspires to reach during the next four years.

“We are today at a crossroads, because we are in a situation where some believe that the PDP must be killed, the PDP must be destroyed, the PDP must be isolated because of the threat we pose to them. But the fact remains that in a democracy, you should live and let others live.

“We have promised since our assumption of office that we are taking this party back to the Nigerian people. This party is called the People’s Party, and if it is the People’s Party, we must take it back to the people. We said there would be no impunity, no injustice. There will be a level playing field, transparency, and, above all, fairness.

“I want to affirm, on behalf of the new members of the NWC, that we still stand by that pledge we made in Ibadan

“The handover report of your stewardship is in two volumes. This is Volume 1, and this is Volume 2. I assure you, Your Excellency, that we will sit down, examine the reports carefully, and take guidance from whatever is inside.

“Once again, I want to assure Nigerians that the PDP is on the rise again, and there is no stopping us. Thank you very much.”

In his brief remarks, Damagun said, “This handover for us is part of our responsibility to address this NWC. We ought to have done it immediately after we came out of the National Convention, but we have been trying to compile our handover note, realising time. There is no better time than now. It is better late than never.

“Today, I am presenting my stewardship so that it will serve as a guide as you navigate the leadership of this party. I know it is coming at a time when we are bedevilled by many challenges. The beauty of the PDP is its ability to surmount all obstacles we have faced and to continue to overcome every challenge by doing what is right.

“The PDP is still the party to beat in this country. That is why you see that they (the ruling APC) are losing sleep. Every day, we cross one hurdle; they place another before us, we cross it, and continue. All this happens by God’s blessing.

“The most important thing is that we are people of faith who believe God will always see us through. We are positive. In other words, God is a just God and does not support injustice. You may have temporary respite through your injustices, but when God’s justice descends on you, then you realise that He alone is absolute.

APC to Turaki: Your call for foreign invasion is reckless, unpatriotic

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the call for foreign invasion of Nigeria by the new factional Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki over insecurity in parts of the country.

Mr Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary condemned the call in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

Morka urged the international community to dismiss the call by Turaki.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Turaki while addressing newsmen over the crisis rocking the PDP, called on foreign powers to intervene in Nigeria to save it from alleged “Christian genocide”.

He also said the call had become necessary to protect the country’s democracy.

“Turaki’s call for foreign invasion of Nigeria was reckless and unpatriotic and should not be taken seriously.

“For a man declared national chairman barely 72 hours ago by a faction of his deeply fractured party, Turaki looked and sounded desperate, at his wit’s end,”he said.

The APC spokesman described Turaki as confused.

He said Nigerians expected that Turaki would set himself on an urgent peace-building mission to bring his party’s warring factions together in dialogue, towards finding possible pathways to peace and reconciliation.

He noted that instead, Turaki’s first official act as PDP’s factional chairman was to call for foreign invasion of Nigeria as a solution to the self-inflicted internal crisis of his PDP.

Morka said his call was a dangerous threat to national security and sovereignty, adding that it was a disgraceful and unpatriotic call.

He recalled that under the PDP’s 16 years in power, with its subversion of opposition parties, there was never a call for foreign invasion of Nigeria as a solution to crisis within opposition parties of that era.

“Turaki’s call is not only an admission of PDP’s incapacity to manage its internal contradictions, it must be taken as a final certification of its demise.

“We trust the international community to dismiss the PDP’s disgraceful and unpatriotic call as a pitiful distraction from the failure of its internal democracy and embarrassing disintegration.

“The heightened desperation of the PDP and other opposition leaders is now clear for all to see. Turaki’s call shows how far they are willing to go.

“Even to the extent of actively seeking destructive intervention of foreign powers on Nigerian soil in order to serve their sinister political agenda,” Morka said.

He urged Nigerians to stand firm in support of the APC, and the visionary leadership of President Bola Tinubu as he continued the task of building progress and prosperity in all areas of our national life.

Turaki seeks international intervention as factions clash at PDP national secretariat

A newly elected factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, on Tuesday called on the international community to intervene in what he described as a serious threat to democracy in Nigeria.

Speaking with journalists at the PDP National Secretariat, Turaki accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of leading thugs to seize control of the party headquarters.

He also alleged that police officers shot at their members and barred them from accessing the premises.

Turaki condemned the escalating crisis within the party, noting that members of his faction had earlier resolved to “lay down their lives” in defence of the PDP and the nation’s democracy.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who aligned with Turaki’s position, said the struggle had gone beyond party politics and had become a fight to rescue the country’s democratic institutions.

Amid the chaos, a cameraman with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) was assaulted by suspected thugs, sustaining a head injury while his camera was destroyed. The attack was halted following the intervention of Governor Bala Mohammed.

While the disorder persisted outside, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and his loyalists were reportedly holding a meeting inside the NEC hall, even as the FCT Minister remained in his vehicle, surrounded by heavily armed security personnel.
