    Tyla cancels world tour after undisclosed injury

    South Africa’s Grammy-winning singer, Tyla has called for the cancellation of her world tour due to an undisclosed injury.

    The rising music star, who gained international fame last year with hit single “Water” said she was heartbroken after doctors advised her against proceeding with the tour.

    Writing on Instagram, the 22-year-old said that for the past year she has been “silently suffering” with an unspecified injury that “has tragically worsened”.

    “I’ve seen doctors and specialists with high hopes but the pain has only become more agonising as has the severity of the situation,” Tyla said on Instagram.

    “Words cannot describe my frustration at this pivotal point in my career.

    “So please know that my team and I are working diligently on a spectacular show for you as soon as I am recovered and ready to return safely onstage”, she wrote.

    Grammy-winning South African singer, Tyla has opened up on her relationship status and preferred choice of man.

    Revealing in a recent interview with Power 96.5 FM, Miami, Tyla said she is single.

    According to her, she is single because she wants to focus on her music career in the meantime.

    Speaking of men, the ‘Water’ crooner said she prefers a man who plays video games over a man who is a habitual clubgoer.

    The host asked: “Would you rather have a boyfriend who plays video games a lot or a boyfriend who is always in the club?”

    Tyla replied, “Video games all day. A club guy? No! What the hell?

    “I would rather have a boyfriend who plays video games than a boyfriend who is at the club every weekend. At least, I know the guy who plays video games will always be home with me. I also love being at home.”

    On why she is single, she said: “Yes, I am single. I’m not playing with all of that right now. I am focusing on the prize.”

    Grammy-nominated singers Davido and Ayra Starr have sent congratulatory messages to their South African colleague Tyla for winning the Best African Music Performance category at the 2024 Grammys.

    The duo took to their individual X accounts to send in their well wishes.

    Davido wrote: “Congratulations on your win @Tyllaaaaaaa ! Big One for Africa! Keep soaring”.

    Ayra Starr posted: “Congratulations to my babessssss  @Tyllaaaaaaa”.

    The Nation had reported that the female rapper and singer won her first Grammy award by beating off the  competition from Nigerian acts like; David Adeleke, aka Davido; Ahmed Ololade, aka Asake; and Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy.

    Tyla’s ‘Water’ earned her a win on Sunday, February 4, 2024. 

    Nigerian songs in the same category as the South African are Davido’s ‘Unavailable,’ Asake’s ‘Amapiano,’ Burna Boy’s ‘City Boys,’ and Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush.’

    The song ‘Water’ made the top 10 across 16 countries including the UK and the US.

    The award was presented at the 66th Grammy Award Premiere Ceremony at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.

    South African artiste, Tyla, on Sunday, won the award for the Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys.

    The female sensation outshined Nigerian acts  Davido, Asake and Burna Boy in the same category.

    Tyla’s ‘Water’ saw off songs by Davido’s ‘Unavailable,’ Asake’s ‘Amapiano,’ Burna Boy’s ‘City Boys,’ and Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush.’

    I cried everyday to get my parents’ approval to do music – Tyla

    South African singer, Tyla Laura Seethal, popularly known as Tyla, has revealed how she cried everyday to convince her parents to allow her to pursue her dream in music. 

    She said it was tough convincing her parents as they didn’t consider music a job.

    The ‘Water’ singer said her parents eventually gave in after standing on her ground with tears overflowing every day.

    Speaking in a recent interview with Power 106 FM, Los Angeles, U.S.A, Tyla said: “My parents weren’t really strict on what I’m doing, but they were strict in terms of me going to the studio rather than getting a job. They were like, ‘Music is not a job. That it’s a hobby.’

    “So, I had to literally cry every day and tell them that I wanna do this. There’s nothing else I wanna do. It was difficult convincing them. It’s also because, in South Africa, it doesn’t happen to us. I’ve heard so many women who wanted to do music and didn’t end up the way they wanted to. So, my parents were just trying to protect me, which is fine, but I showed them that I want to do music by all means.”

    She said: “I heard the song ‘Water’ and I instantly fell in love. I finished it in Cape Town, South Africa. As soon as I finished recording, I was just playing it over and over again. It’s basically me telling a guy that stop being all-talk, I want you to show me what you got to offer. It’s kind of a naughty song but it’s the song of the summer.”

    Former Big Brother Naija housemate Groovy has called out South African singer, Tyla over alleged revamping of his song. 

    The reality star and model claimed that the snippet of Tyla’s upcoming song ‘Truth or Dare’ is an intellectual theft of his song, ‘On my way.’

    Groovy stated that the South African singer did not take permission from him before allegedly sampling his song.

    South African singer Tyla Laura Seethal aka Tyla has broken silence over rumoured romantic relationship with Nigerian star, Rema.

    Addressing the speculations in the latest episode of the ‘We Need To Talk’ podcast, the ‘Water’ crooner said Rema is just a “friend.”

    She clarified that the viral picture of them holding hands that sparked the dating rumours was taken after she attended one of the Afrobeats star’s concerts.

    “We are just friends. I went to his show and he happened to hold my hand. And obviously, people will always interpret it the way they do.
