Governor Uba Sani mobilises clerics, media on peace drive ahead of Ramadan

Governor Uba Sani has mobilized Islamic clerics, media organizations, and digital platforms to deploy the coming Ramadan as a force for peace, tolerance, and national cohesion.

Governor Uba Sani, represented by the Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Dr. Mu’azu Meyare, at the 2026 Annual Pre-Ramadan Meeting organised by Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) at its National Headquarters in Kaduna, stressed that Nigeria’s prevailing economic, security and social challenges have heightened the responsibility of religious leaders and the media to guide public discourse with wisdom, restraint, and compassion.

The Governor urged Ulamas to ensure that Tafsir sessions and other Ramadan enlightenment programmes consistently promote unity, peaceful coexistence, social justice, and care for the vulnerable.

He noted that Ramadan, a sacred month of mercy, discipline, and renewal, offers a unique platform to reinforce values of sadaqa, patriotism, and prayers for the nation and its leaders, adding that sincere supplication during the holy month remains vital to national healing.

The Governor further appealed to radio, television, and social media platforms to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the transmission of Tafsir and religious content, cautioning against messages capable of inciting tension or division. He reminded participants that service to humanity remains one of the highest forms of worship in Islam.

Highlighting Kaduna State’s commitment to inclusive governance, the Governor said the administration’s interfaith framework has helped sustain relative peace and understanding among people of different religious beliefs.

He reaffirmed government support for religious education and dialogue and pledged continued partnership with JNI and other faith-based institutions.

The Kaduna State Government reiterated its readiness to work closely with religious leaders and the media to deepen tolerance, strengthen unity, and ensure a peaceful, spiritually enriching Ramadan season.

The meeting was chaired by His Highness, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Abba Kiyari El-Kanemi, who led deliberations focused on responsible preaching, religious harmony, and the preservation of peace during and beyond Ramadan.

The JNI Pre-Ramadan Meeting drew eminent personalities from across the country, including traditional rulers, respected Islamic scholars, and community leaders, underscoring the national significance of the forum in shaping religious discourse ahead of Ramadan.

Reforms necessary to achieve positive results — Uba Sani

Governor Uba Sani has said that his administration has pursued difficult but necessary reforms to stabilise public finance, improve governance and create a predictable business environment in Kaduna State.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner of Business Innovation and Technology, Mrs Patience Fakai at the opening ceremony of 47th Kaduna International Trade fair on Saturday, said that the reforms are now yielding results.

‘’Kaduna State has consistently ranked first in Nigeria’s Subnational Fiscal Transparency Index for two consecutive years, reflecting our commitment to openness, accountability, and prudent public financial management,’’ he recalled.

The Governor noted that the theme of the trade fair, ‘’From Reforms to Results: Economic Transformation through Sustainable Local Content Development,’’ is apt.

He recalled that last Monday, the Kaduna State Fiscal Responsibility Commission organised a capacity strengthening workshop for ‘’public fund managers on the prudent, transparent, and accountable use of public resources.’’

According to Governor Uba Sani, the workshop was necessary because ‘’investors go where governance is clear, rules are predictable, and public finance is credible.’’

‘’Evidence shows that subnational governments with higher fiscal transparency attract more private investment and enjoy stronger investor confidence due to reduced information asymmetry and governance risk.

‘’Kaduna State’s performance, therefore, directly enhances trade, lowers the cost of doing business, and positions the state as a reliable destination for both domestic and international investors,’’ he added.

Governor Uba Sani pointed out that this year’s edition of Kaduna International Trade Fair provides a platform to translate that confidence into partnerships.

According to him, the focus of Kaduna State on local content development is intentional because ‘’industrialisation must be rooted in local enterprise, local skills, and strong local value chains.’’

‘’ From agribusiness and solid minerals to manufacturing, ICT, and services, Kaduna State remains committed to policies that support indigenous businesses while remaining open to global capital and expertise,’’ he maintained.

In a keynote address, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Nura Abba Rimi, disclosed that the Nigeria Trade Policy is now at the execution state.

According to the permanent secretary, ‘’our success is measured by the new factories and exports crossing our ports, benefiting local traders and innovators.’’

Alhaji Nura disclosed that ‘’the term “local content” is evolving — it is no longer just about oil; it is becoming central to our wealth and industrial growth.’’

‘’By prioritizing Nigerian-made goods, we keep wealth within the country and support a circular economy. We have created digital platforms to track trade, encourage local sourcing among major investors, and streamline trade processes by eliminating bureaucratic hurdles. This is enabling faster market access for Nigerian exporters,’’ he said.

He further said that Federal Government is addressing infrastructure deficits and improving access to finance for businesses that are sourcing locally, challenging exhibitors to prioritize local suppliers because it strengthens our economy.

In his welcome address, the President of KADCIMA, Alhaji Farouk Suleiman noted that although Nigeria has entered a season of necessary reforms, but reforms do not create prosperity.

According to him, ‘’only production creates prosperity. Only skills create jobs.Only enterprise creates wealth. And that is where Chambers of Commerce must lead.’’

The President said that the new leadership of KADCCIMA is embarking on a deliberate institutional turnaround agenda to serve not merely as an event organizer, but as a policy advocate; a business accelerator; a skills development platform; and a year-round engine of economic growth.

He said that youth and women skills development remain KADCCIMA’s top priority, adding that they are its greatest resource.

‘’Under our new direction, KADCCIMA will champion vocational and technical skills acquisition, digital and ICT training, agro-processing and light manufacturing skills, entrepreneurship incubation, mentorship and market access, and affordable financing linkages,’’ he added.

Alhaji Farouk promised to work with government, development partners, and the private sector to establish Skills Acquisition and Enterprise Development Centres that empower our youth and women not to search for jobs, but to create jobs.

All 183 rescued Kurmin Wali worshippers back from captivity

•We refused to politicise their pain, focused on bringing everyone back, says governor
•Victims: we trekked for six days, tortured, fed with corn

All the 183 worshippers have been rescued from captivity, the Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani said yesterday.

They were abducted during a church service at Kurmin Wali in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State on January 18.

At the emotional reception, held in Kaduna Government House, which brought together top security chiefs, government officials and community leaders, the freed victims were reunited with state authorities.

Visibly relieved, the governor described the moment as “a day of joy for Kaduna State,” declaring that the safe return of the abducted worshippers vindicated the quiet but relentless efforts of the government and security agencies.

He said the incident came as a shock, especially after what he described as over two years of sustained collaboration between the state government and security agencies to safeguard lives and property.

According to him, once the abduction occurred, the state mobilised all relevant security formations and stakeholders with an objective – to ensure that every single victim returned safely.

Sani said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu followed developments from day one, calling repeatedly to express concern and provide leadership support.

He commended the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for working with the state to coordinate the rescue.

The governor praised the Director-General of Department of State Services (DSS), Mr Oluwatosin Ajayi, Nigerian Army, Police, and other security formations for what he called exceptional collaboration throughout the operation.

“For us in Kaduna, even one person abducted is unacceptable. That is why we refused to join issues or politicise the situation. Our focus was to bring everyone back alive,” he said.

Providing a breakdown, he said 183 persons were initially abducted, 11 were released earlier and hospitalised, 83 regained freedom days ago, while the remaining 89 were rescued on Wednesday.

“Today, we would not be sitting here if even one person was still missing. I can say without contradiction that all those abducted have returned,” he declared.

He said he had requested the establishment of a military base around the Kajuru–Kachia axis, particularly around the Rijana general area on the Kaduna-Abuja corridor.

He said the President had given assurances that the request would be granted to strengthen security presence in the flashpoint.

Sani added that the government had started the construction of a road linking Kurmin Wali to the main road, alongside plans to build a hospital and a skills acquisition centre for the community.

He stressed that the victims would undergo medical examinations and psychosocial care in Kaduna before reunification with their families.

The governor urged citizens to support security agencies, noting that the personnel risk their lives daily to protect communities across the state.

He assured that the state government would continue to work with grassroots leaders, religious leaders and security agencies to prevent a recurrence.

Chairman, the state Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Caleb Maaji, said: “We are grateful because not some of them returned, but all of them returned. We thank God and appreciate the government and security agencies.’’

Some of the rescued worshippers narrated their ordeal to reporters, saying that they were forced to trek for six days into the forest to the kidnappers’ camp, tortured and survived mainly on corn and pap.

The reception ended with prayers, relief and emotional scenes as the freed worshippers prepared to begin medical and psychological recovery under government care.

  • Uba Sani commissions Kauru road, ends 45 years of neglect

Uba Sani commissions Kauru road, ends 45 years of neglect

Relief has finally come to communities along the Pambeguwa–Kahutu–Kauru axis as Governor Uba Sani on Tuesday commissioned the 22-kilometre asphalt road linking Kubau and Kauru local government areas, ending decades of difficult travel and isolation.

The project, which includes a span bridge connecting the two councils, is seen by residents as the first real answer to a road need that had lingered for close to 50 years without resolution.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Sani recalled that when he visited the area on August 27, 2024, to flag off the project, the journey from Pambeguwa to Kauru took nearly one hour due to the deplorable state of the road.

He noted with satisfaction that the same trip took less than 12 minutes on Tuesday, attributing the dramatic improvement to the completion of the road project.

According to him, Kauru was among 12 local governments in Kaduna State that had not benefited from any road project in the last 12 years, despite the strategic importance of the route to surrounding communities.

He said previous administrations had recognised the importance of the road and made attempts to fix it, but “for various reasons, the project remained incomplete.”

“When we broke ground for this road on 27th August 2024, we made a solemn commitment to the people of these communities. Today, we return not with explanations or excuses, but with a completed project that speaks for itself,” the governor said.

He stressed that the commissioning underscored a defining principle of his administration that promises made to the people must be kept through visible and measurable delivery.

Governor Sani assured residents that the government would not stop at the highway but would also construct township roads and address the nearly 20-year electricity blackout affecting Kauru town.

He recalled that since assuming office, his administration had embarked on what he described as an ambitious but deliberate programme of infrastructure renewal across the state.

“We have initiated the construction of 140 roads spanning over 1,335 kilometres across Kaduna State’s three senatorial zones, guided by data, equity and a firm resolve to correct years of imbalance in access and opportunity,” he said.

The governor added that the newly completed road is deliberately routed through agriculturally productive communities to ease the movement of farm produce to aggregation centres, processing facilities and markets, thereby reducing travel time, lowering transport costs and improving economic opportunities for farmers, traders, students and emergency services.

Uba Sani pledges world-class upgrade for Ahmadu Bello Stadium

Governor Uba Sani has promised that Ahmadu Bello Stadium will be transformed to a FIFA-standard sports facility capable of  hosting international competitions.

He noted that the stadium was built in 1965 so it has to be completely remodelled to meet the needs of modern times.

Sani disclosed that the stadium will be transformed to a 32, 000 seating capacity when the remodelling is completed, which will double its current capacity.

The Governor  made this known when the National Institute for Sports, led by its Director General, Comrade Phillip Shuaibu, paid him a courtesy visit at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House on Tuesday.

He pledged that the upgraded Ahmadu Bello Stadium will be the second most spacious after the national stadium in Abuja.

He described the DG of NIS  as versatile, adding that before Shuaibu came on board, the Institute was moribund but he has as started turning it around.

Recalling that he and the DG were in the trenches together for the restoration of democracy in 1999, he said that  Shuaibu performed well as Edo State Deputy Governor.

Speaking earlier, Shuaibu said that the mandate of NIS is to develop manpower for the sports ecosystem, including the training of coaches and paramedics.

According to  Shuaibu , he took steps to reposition the Institute when he assumed office, by constituting a 32-member star-studded team that came up with a 10-year work plan, conducted trainings and created six zonal offices for proper coordination.

He said that the North west zonal office will be located in Kaduna while Yola and Jos will host the zonal offices of the North East and North Central geopolitical zones respectively.

According to him, the South-South zonal office will be located at Benin and  the South East as well as South West offices will be at Enugu and Abeokuta towns respectively.

Comrade Shuaibu thanked Governor Sani for promising to provide a fully furnished office for the take-off of the North West zonal office.

  • Kaduna: Uba Sani commissions the longest road in 20 years

Kaduna: Uba Sani commissions the longest road in 20 years

Governor Uba Sani has commissioned the longest road that has been constructed in the last two decades, cutting across three local governments and linking more than 76 farming communities in Kaduna State.

He said that the road, which stretches from Igabi to Kajuru and Chikun local governments, includes a 130-metre bridge over the River Kaduna, which serves several rural communities.

The Governor said that the 35-kilometre asphaltic road linking Gadan Gayan through Gwaraji to Kujama Junction will transform mobility, agriculture, and rural economies in those communities.

Speaking at the commissioning on Monday, he described the project as a historic milestone in the state’s infrastructure development, adding that it reflects his administration’s inclusive and people-centred development model.

Governor Uba Sani recalled that when the project was flagged off in January 2024, his administration had pledged to deliver a durable and efficient transport corridor.

The governor maintained that ‘’through disciplined planning, professional execution, and collective commitment, that promise has been fulfilled.’’

He explained that the road provides an alternative route that reduces reliance on the often-congested Kaduna metropolis, thereby cutting travel time and transportation costs for commuters and traders.

“Emergency services will be able to respond faster, schoolchildren will reach their classrooms with greater ease, and families will enjoy improved access to healthcare, markets, and social services,” he noted.

The Governor also emphasized the road’s agricultural importance, stressing that agriculture remains the leading contributor to Kaduna State’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth.

“By traversing agriculturally productive rural communities across three local government areas, this road directly links farms to markets, aggregation centres, processing facilities, and urban consumption hubs,” he said, adding that it   would reduce post-harvest losses and strengthen agricultural value chains.”

Governor Uba Sani said early signs of economic revival are already visible along the corridor, with new filling stations, markets, and small businesses emerging. “This is the quiet but powerful multiplier effect of well-planned infrastructure,” he remarked.

The Governor said the project also addresses long-standing inequities in public investment, especially in Kajuru Local Government Area, one of the 12 Area Councils that had not benefited from a road project for more than 12 years.

“This prolonged neglect constrained economic activity, and that reality was unacceptable,” he said, pledging that his administration is ‘’reversing decades of under-investment.’’

The Governor explained that the commissioned road is part of a broader programme that includes 140 road projects, covering 1,335 kilometres across Kaduna State.

Governor Uba Sani said that 66 of the roads that his administration initiated have already been completed, while others are between 60 and 75 per cent completed.

We’re partners in progress, Kaduna Governor Sani tells Reps Speaker Abbas

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has said the rapport between the House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and the Kaduna State government exemplifies cooperative governance at its best.

The governor also said the partnership is “built on mutual respect, shared vision, and an unyielding commitment to the welfare of our people”.

He added: “Together, we are demonstrating that when leaders work in harmony, development accelerates and trust in public institutions is strengthened>”

Governor Sani said this at a special constituency empowerment programme organised by Speaker Abbas at the Nuhu Babajo Stadium, Zaria, on Sunday.

Abbas distributed 850 motorcycles and 30 vehicles, as well as inaugurated sports centres across Zaria Federal Constituency as part of his empowerment programme.

Teachers, religious leaders, polling unit heads, community support groups and security operatives, including Old CPC Support Group for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Uba Sani benefitted.

Governor Sani noted that the empowerment programme “reflects the Speaker’s unwavering belief that public office must translate into visible improvement in the lives of the people, and that democracy finds its truest meaning when it delivers dignity, opportunity, and hope”.

The governor also said the empowerment programme “underscores a development philosophy anchored on productivity, inclusion, and human wellbeing”.

He said: “This empowerment programme, which began days ago and now reaches its crescendo, is a powerful reminder of what purposeful leadership can achieve.”

Abbas recalled that on Friday, the empowerment programmed had “focused on economic empowerment through training opportunities and financial grants for women and young people”.

The Speaker said: “Today, we advance this commitment by investing in mobility, organisational, and community infrastructure.

“Together, these interventions form an integrated approach to building capacity, improving service delivery, and strengthening the systems that sustain education, security, political participation, and youth development across Zaria Federal Constituency and Kaduna State in general.”

He said Sunday’s empowerment “is about rewarding service and reinforcing grassroots structures”.

Abbas added: “It is about equipping those who hold communities together with tools that make their work more effective and their impact more isible.

“For this reason, we are distributing 850 motorcycles to primary and secondary school teachers, Imams, polling unit heads, support groups, and security personnel. Improved mobility reduces daily hardship and increases efficiency.

“Teachers can reach classrooms more consistently. Religious leaders can engage wider communities. Grassroots organisers can operate effectively across all wards, and security personnel can respond faster and maintain a stronger presence.

“When mobility improves, service improves, and when service improves, communities grow stronger.”

The Speaker also presented 30 vehicles to the Old CPC Support Group for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Uba Sani Continuity 2027 in recognition of loyalty, sacrifice, and enduring commitment.

“Politics is sustained by structure, discipline, and organisation. The Old CPC tradition in Kaduna State and across the North helped lay the foundation of the political movement that produced the APC and delivered national leadership.

“This presentation reflects appreciation and reinforces readiness. Strong structures remain essential to political stability, mobilisation and governance,” he said.

Justifying the inauguration of sports centres across Zaria Federal Constituency, Abbas said sports play a vital role in community development, adding that “it promotes discipline, teamwork and confidence”.

Governor Sani had inaugurated a 100-kilowatt solar mini-grid at Damau, in the Kubau Local Government Area.

Underscoring the significance of the mini-grid, the governor announced that “for more than a decade, the people of Damau lived without access to electricity”.

He added: “Daily life was shaped by limitation. Markets closed early, small businesses struggled to grow, healthcare delivery was constrained, and children relied on candlelight to study.”

Governor Sani stressed that “such conditions diminish productivity and weaken social progress”.

The governor described the project as a “partnership between the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria, the National Assembly, and the Kaduna State Government”.

He hailed Abbas, whose “leadership and sustained commitment to development have helped to unlock opportunities that directly benefit communities such as Damau”.

Governor Abbas also acknowledged the efforts of the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Mr. Abba Aliyu, for believing in our vision and the commendable work he is doing.

The governor also praised the House member who represents Kubau/Ikara Federal Constituency, Aliyu Mustapha Abdullahi, “whose advocacy ensured that this community remained firmly on the agenda of rural electrification”.

He added: “That project demonstrates what is possible when the Executive and the Legislature work in concert, guided by a shared sense of responsibility to the people they serve.”
