    • …urges president to name, shame sponsors

A former Bayelsa state gubernatorial candidate, Udengs Eradiri, has applauded steps taken so far by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to tackle insecurity in the country.

Eradiri particularly hailed the President for appointing the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa (retd), as the Minister of Defence.

He applauded the National Assembly for swiftly screening and confirming Musa, saying it signalled a new, determined era to confront banditry and terrorism.

Eradiri, a former Commissioner for Youths and later Environment in Bayelsa State, further commended the way and manner President Tinubu turned emerging aggression from the USA into collaborative diplomacy.

The Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) said President Tinubu intelligently converted the American aggression into a collaborative effort to find a permanent solution to insecurity in the country

He said, “I want to commend Mr President for some of the actions he has taken in recent times to address the security situation in the country.

“One of them is that he turned the aggression that was coming from America into diplomacy. Instead of guns blazing, it is now a collaborative effort to rid Nigeria of this cancer that is affecting us.

“I commend Mr President that despite the deteriorating level we got to, he was able to make certain vital decisions. One of them is the appointment of the recently retired Defence Chief as the Minister for Defence. The defence ministry cannot be run by people who have no business in security.

“The Nigerian system must be purged of moles. Nigerians are happy with the appointment of Gen Musa. You can feel the pulse because you know that the man is a round peg in a round hole.

Eradiri appealed to the President to evolve a system that would purge all the moles and saboteurs out of all public institutions, especially the security architecture.

Eradiri said, “The problem is actually the moles in government, the APC, the National Assembly, civil service, the army, and the national security architecture. That is where the fight must start.

“The President must begin to look inward to identify, name, and shame all the moles. The DSS recently purged itself of some persons. The President must look into the Ministry of Communication to stop the compromise of military signals.

“Some people are passing vital information to terrorists. The battle is about purging all the internal worms in the system. We must cleanse our system. Let us name and shame all the people on the wanted list”.

Eradiri observed that most of the governors for the first time in the country were presenting trillions as their budgets for the 2026 fiscal year, saying such liquidity in states was made possible by the economic reforms of President Tinubu.

He said, “We are only appealing to these governors to judiciously utilize these humongous resources and revenue accruing to them because of the economic intelligence displayed by the President Tinubu’s administration.

“This revenue must reflect in the standard of living of citizens in the various states. It is obvious that President Tinubu has been generating a lot of money for the governors. The governors must reciprocate by evolving people-oriented programmes and projects that will reduce the cost of living and increase the standard of living in their various states.”

Eradiri to Atiku: suspend your ambition to protect Niger Delta, preserve Nigeria’s unity

A former President of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Worldwide, Udengs Eradiri, has advised erstwhile Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to jettison his presidential ambition.

In a statement yesterday, Eradiri told Atiku that his serial failed bids to occupy the Aso Rock Villa had done untold damage to the development of the Niger Delta and destroyed the reputation of some of the respected leaders from the region.

Eradiri, who is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), argued that Atiku’s insensitive and desperate ambition to become President was threatening the peace of the country.

Eradiri, a former Commissioner for Youths and later Environment in Bayelsa State, also noted that a former Delta State Governor James Onanefe Ibori’s political alliance with Atiku was part of the reason he was thrown into jail.

The former Bayelsa State commissioner said Atiku demonstrated the highest level of desperation, unreasonableness and lack of patriotism in 2023 when he cornered the presidential ticket of the PDP to retain power in the North, even though former President Muhammadu Buhari had just ended eight years in office.

Eradiri said: “I want to call on Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to demonstrate statesmanship by jettisoning his ambition to be President of Nigeria. This call is not political. It is borne out of unbiased assessment of the damage his ambition has caused the people of the Niger Delta.

“The late Bayelsa State governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, suffered and died because of his association with Atiku. Former Delta State governor, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, went to jail because of his association with Atiku.

“Delta State is indebted financially because of Okowa’s association with Atiku’s ambition. Sim Fubara of Rivers State was deceived by assurances from Atiku and his men. The Nigerian political space in recent times has suffered untold damage because of Atiku.

“A period that should be the turn of the South after the North had done two terms, but you can see that Atiku is still insisting on becoming the President, and today, the opposition has been alienated because of Atiku.

“The PDP is in tatters today because of Atiku. Therefore, it is clear that Atiku’s ambition is bringing untold hardship, especially to us in the Niger Delta. It is creating the problem that is destabilising the Nigerian polity.”

“Every society needs a virile opposition for the ruling party to sit up. But Atiku’s ambition has dealt a deadly blow to the PDP, which many people relied upon to provide this opposition.”

Eradiri told Atiku that the country would be more peaceful and the rising tension would go down if he supported the South to complete its tenure.

…Tinubu behind all projects in my community, peace in Niger Delta – Eradiri

The immediate past governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Bayelsa State, Udengs Eradiri, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing his decision to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure development in his Agudiama/Ekpetiama community, Yenagoa Local Government Area.

Eradiri, who registered with the APC in Ward 10, Constituency 2, Yenagoa, highlighted projects initiated by the Tinubu administration through the Dr. Samuel Ogbuku-led Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), including potable water, shore protection, solar streetlights, and a one-kilometer road.

He noted that these interventions were not limited to his community but had also benefited many others in the Niger Delta, citing the region’s improved infrastructure and peace due to efforts by the NDDC and Tantita Security Services.

Additionally, Eradiri praised the federal government’s ongoing projects, including plans to remodel the local secondary school and build a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) lodge.

He also commended Tinubu for signing the Maritime University Bill into law and approving the University of Technology and Environment in Ogoni, which he believes will further stabilize the region.

The former Bayelsa Commissioner for Youths and later Environment lauded the Tinubu administration for appointing Bayelsa indigenes to key positions, such as the Head of Service, the Minister of State for Petroleum, and the Managing Director of the NDDC.

He also praised the government’s efforts to boost oil production and the accelerated construction of the East-West Road under Minister of Works, Dr. Dave Umahi.

He said with all the contributions of the President in his community and the Niger Delta through Tantita, the NDDC and the Ministry of Petroleum, it was only reasonable for him to join Tinubu and work with him in the APC to ensure the success of his Renewed Hope Agenda.

He insisted that President Tinubu meant well for the Niger Delta and the country and called on his teeming supporters and all stakeholders in the region to work with the President.

Udengs commended all APC faithful in Bayelsa for warmly receiving him in the party and vowed to work with all the party stakeholders to reposition the APC in the state and the country.

He said: “In my community we have water project done by the APC government: shore protection being done by the APC government, solar light and one kilometre road. The APC government has also  promised to carry out other projects like corners’ lodge and renovation of our secondary school.

“The best thing to do to thank such leadership is to join them and work for the success of the party. For me President Tinubu is one man I have admired since I was young and this will provide me the opportunity to learn from him and work with him to ensure that he succeeds.

“In 2006 when we attended the PRONACO meetings in Lagos he was one man who believed in a restructured Nigeria. I supported the PRONACO Movement and partook in it. I think that this is the best time to work with him. The Tinubu government gave us Head of Service, Ministry of Petroleum and the NDDC. His government has ensured the light up of the Niger Delta which has reduced crime to its barest minimum.

“Tinubu government is behind the Tantita project that has seen many young people in the Niger engaged because of the pipeline surveillance that has ensured the growth in the production of oil and reduction of crime in the Niger Delta. There is no other way to say thank you than to join the government that is doing well.

“The government is talking about tax reforms that will go a long way to bring about seriousness in governance and curb laziness. It will bring innovation and creativity as states and local government will begin to work harder and such will provide jobs for young people and engender  growth and development.

“I see that the government has a lot to offer Nigeria and I won’t be an onlooker. I want to participate and contribute to it. I want to be part of those that participated in the revival and reorganisation of the country”.

Ex-IYC boss seeks additional 10 LGAs for Bayelsa

A former President of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Worldwide, Udengs Eradiri, has called on the National Assembly and the Federal Government to create additional 10 local government areas for Bayelsa State.

Eradiri described the existing eight local government areas in the entire Bayelsa as abnormal, insisting that the state deserved more numbers.

Eradiri, a former Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Bayelsa, said the state where crude oil was first found in commercial quantity had been suffering injustice since it was created with only eight local government areas by the late former Head of State, Gen. Sanni Abacha.

He wondered why different administrations and various sessions of the National Assembly had carried on over the years as if all was well with Bayelsa’s constitutional composition in terms of the number of local government areas.

Eradiri, a former Commissioner for Youths and later Environment in Bayelsa, called on the National Assembly, especially the state’s caucus in the Assembly, to correct the abnormality by creating additional 10 local government areas for the state.

Eradiri in a statement in Port Harcourt,.Rivers State, on Friday, argued that the National Assembly could seize the window provided by the ongoing legislations for the creation of additional states in the country to increase the number of Bayelsa’s local government areas.

Eradiri noted that among all the states in the country, Bayelsa remained the only state with eight local government areas despite its landmass being greater than others like Lagos and Southeastern states that have more local government areas.

He said: “This issue has continued to agitate our minds and it is high time various authorities like the National Assembly and the Federal Government considered it as a matter of urgency.

Presidential aide urges former Bayelsa LP candidate to join APC

The special adviser to the president on ICT and digital innovation, Tokoni Peter Igoin, has appealed to the former Labour Party (LP) Governorship Candidate in Bayelsa State, Udengs Eradiri, to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Igoin visited Eradiri, a Fellow of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), at his country home in Azikoro Village, Yenagoa, on Wednesday, following Eradiri’s recent withdrawal from the LP.

While announcing his exit from the LP, Eradiri had expressed his intention to find a political platform that would enable him to better serve the people and advance the development of Bayelsa State.

During the visit, Igoin, accompanied by some aides and youths from his Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area, highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to transforming Nigeria.

He praised Tinubu’s bold economic reforms and vision in ICT, noting that these initiatives were already delivering positive results and would ease economic challenges over time.

Igoin emphasised the President’s focus on youth development and his preference for working with capable, intelligent individuals like Eradiri. He urged Eradiri to join forces with him in supporting the President, insisting that Tinubu had the best interests of the nation at heart.

He said: “I am not asking you to join the APC I am rather begging you to join our party to support our dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because he has shown the capacity to turn around the country. Our President values and empowers youths and it will be a plus if you join me in APC to support him”.

Igoin said Udengs had demonstrated capacity in various offices he occupied in the past adding that he made a difference as the Secretary-General of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), IYC’s President, commissioners for Youths, later Environment and Special Adviser to former Managing Director, NDDC.

He said: “I saw your withdrawal from the Labour Party. I hope we work together. I work with people. I am coming to pledge that I need people like you. I need you today, tomorrow, and all the time. I have a platform where I need people like you. 2027 is coming and questions will be asked. I am begging you to come and join the APC.”

In his response, Eradiri commended Tinubu for appointing someone from Bayelsa State to hold such a position in his government despite the ICT being dominated by the West.

He said Tinubu’s appointment of Igoin was a clear demonstration of his known leadership style of identifying and working with talents without ethnic and religious bias.

Eradiri said he had been an admirer of Tinubu’s leadership qualities right from the NADECO days adding that the President had continued to break the jinx of governance and to surmount all the challenges in Aso Rock villa with his bold reforms.

He, however, observed that if Tinubu were not surrounded by some selfish politicians, his reforms would have speedily tricked down to the grassroots.

He said: “I thank the President for identifying you and appointing you without bias. The problem he has is that people around him don’t share the same visions with him. Gradually we are beginning to see the positive impact of his reforms. We will do our best to give you the support”.

He advised Igoin to do his job and seek opportunities in his area of employment to help the President actualise his Renewed Hope Agenda.

Addressing Igoin, he said: “You have been given a very rare position. The West dominates the sector and for you to be given such an appointment, it means you are doing well in the ICT.  They have developed their own. Do your job and bring people with competence that can assist you”.

Eradiri advised governors in the Niger Delta to support presidential aides from the area without party considerations to enable them to succeed and help others from the region.

While pledging to work with Igoin to achieve the mandate of his office, Eradiri said he was still consulting on his next political platform and would consider his request to join the APC.

Be magnanimous in victory, Ex-LP candidate Eradiri tells Diri

A former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, Udengs Eradiri, has congratulated the state Governor, Douye Diri, on his victory at the Supreme Court.

Eradiri in a statement he sent from London, United Kingdom, asked Diri to be magnanimous in victory and avoid the temptation of sidelining his perceived enemies in distributing dividends of democracy in the state.

The former president of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Worldwide, said with the pronouncement of the Supreme Court on the outcome of Bayelsa’s election, all litigations had ended and called on all stakeholders to work with the governor to move the state forward.

Eradiri, who contested Diri’s victory up to the Appeal Court but decided against taking his matter to the Supreme Court assured the people of the state that he would only engage the governor and his government on constructive criticism.

He tasked the governor to approach the issues of development of the state with all seriousness and to formulate policies and programmes that would address the problems of the state.

He said: “All involved in the last election have fought a fine fight. All the litigations are now rested with the final judgement of the Supreme Court affirming the election of Governor Douye Diri. My team and I congratulate the governor of our state on his victory.

“It is now time for all the stakeholders in the state to come together and work with the governor to move the state forward. There should be no room for politics of bitterness as we also ask the governor to be magnanimous in victory.

“We call on Governor Douye Diri to unite the state and avoid the temptation of sidelining perceived enemies in the governance of the state. The governor must approach the issues of governance with the seriousness it requires.

“Bayelsa remains grossly underdeveloped despite our huge resources and we are asking the governor to judiciously utilize the enormous Commonwealth to address the elementary developmental challenges of Bayelsa.

“We will continue to engage the governor on his policies and programmes, actions and inactions and constructively criticise issues of development, growth, and progress of Bayelsa State. This is the only state we have and all of us must contribute our quotas to develop it.”

Eradiri urges military to isolate, deal with killers of soldiers

The Governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Bayelsa State, Engr. Udengs Eradiri, has appealed to the military to identify, arrest and deal decisively with only persons directly and remotely connected to the gruesome killings of military officers in Okuama community, Delta State.

Eradiri, a former President of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Worldwide, in a statement on Wednesday strongly condemned the incident describing it as a pogrom.

While further describing the killings as barbaric, heinous and unimaginable, Eradiri said no circumstances should have warranted such magnitude of wickedness against officials and personnel of a law enforcement agency.

Eradiri, who acknowledged the provocation of the military by the dastardly act, however, called for restraints in the way and manner it had chosen to address the issue.

He appealed to the military to adopt the best globally accepted cause of action in dealing with the unfortunate development by avoiding the temptation to vent its anger on innocent communities and civilians.

Eradiri asked the military to deploy high level intelligence gathering to identify, isolate, arrest and deal decisively with only those connected to the incident.

He urged the stakeholders of the community where the incident took place especially the traditional rulers, chiefs and responsible youth leadership to volunteer information that would facilitate the arrest of the culprits.

Eradiri said beyond dealing with the perpetrators, the military should also order full scale investigations into the circumstances that caused the killings to enable it redesign its operational strategies to avert recurrence.

He wondered why such incident was allowed to occur in the first place, saying it was a pointer to the collapse of the state and local government administrations, failures of traditional institutions and dearth of intelligence within the security network.

Eradiri called on the Federal Government to strengthen the capacity of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to join the police in handling communal issues insisting that the military had no business in handling any internal dispute.

He said: “What happened in Okuama is shocking, tragic and unimaginable. I strongly condemn the ambush and killings of military officials, who reportedly went for a peacekeeping mission in the area. Why and how did such barbarism take place?

“I sympathize with the military and condole with the families of the deceased. It is obvious that this bloodshed has provoked the military. But I call for restraint. The world is watching how the military will handle the incident and the military must show maturity by ensuring that only individuals connected directly or indirectly to the killings are affected by their actions.

“The military must resist the temptation of attacking innocent communities and killing people, who know nothing about the incident. This is time to deploy high level of intelligence in identifying, arresting and dealing with only the perpetrators. Nobody involved in this pogrom should be spared.

“While seeking justice for the deceased, I also call on the military to carry out a thorough and unbiased investigations into the circumstances that led to this dastardly act. This is to enable the military redesign its operational strategies to avoid a recurrence.

“I believe that this should not have happened in the first place if the state and local government administrations as well as the traditional institutions were active in their duties. Security agencies must make intelligence gathering a priority because with intelligence such incident should have been avoided”.

Bayelsa guber: LP candidate rejects poll result, alleges election fraud

The candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the just concluded governorship election in Bayelsa State, Udengs Eradiri, has rejected the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, November 13.

He claimed that the Saturday’s poll in the state, which threw up the incumbent Governor Douye Diri as the winner,  was marred by irregularities and massive vote buying.

INEC had declared the incumbent governor of the state and candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election, Senator Douye Diri, winner, having scored a total of 175,196 votes. Eradiri, who scored a total of 905 votes came a distant third.

Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday in Yenagoa, the state capital, Eradiri said the election was held against the cardinal principles, laid down procedures and ground rules that democratic elections to offices, especially that of the governor of a state, which stipulates free, fair, credible and peaceful poll.

He lamented that the state resources were used to intimidate the traumatized people during the election.

Eradiri said: “The election of Saturday, November 11, 2023 was marred by massive and mind-blowing vote buying. I consider vote buying a crime  against humanity. I cannot engage in vote buying because it is a demonstration of lack of performance, unpopularity, incompetence, leadership failure and cluelessness on the part of the buyer. How can you bribe people to serve them?

“I contested this election to prove a point that this incompetence in Bayelsa can be challenged, I contested this election to solve the problems of lack of potable water, dearth of infrastructures, ravaging poverty and rot in the education sector.

“I contested this election to take our girls and boys out of the streets, to reverse the poor economic indices that have made our rich-Bayelsa the second poorest state in multidimensional poverty. I contested because I have the capacity, the experience, ideas and the courage to deliver good governance to our people.

“I wept when I saw the condition of our people, the naked squalor they live amidst plenty as I campaigned round the communities and held town hall meetings to solicit their votes. I was touched by the spontaneous show of love they gave me at their homes and villages.

“The process adopt at the polling units encouraged buying and selling of votes, it made it difficult for voters to even collect their money and still vote their conscience.

“I call on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe all electoral officers that participated in the election, most of them are the reasons for rampant voters inducement in our country’s election. The commission should investigate the massive monetary inducements that occurred in the Bayelsa election.

“I want to assure our people that I won’t give up, I will continue to challenge this system until Bayelsa is rescued from poverty, underdevelopment, darkness and other leadership ills.”

Bayelsa’s poverty index, evidence of PDP’s failure, says LP candidate

The Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the forthcoming election in Bayelsa state, Udengs Eradiri, has described the ranking of the state as the second poorest state after Sokoto in the multidimensional poverty index as alarming and disastrous.

Eradiri, who spoke in Yenagoa on Thursday, November 2, said Bayelsa’s poor rankings in all economic and developmental indices remained an eloquent testimony that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Douye Diri have failed the state.

He said the PDP and Diri have nothing to campaign with, noting that he could not wrap his head around the stinking poverty in the state despite the small population of Bayelsa and huge revenue allocations from various sources.

The LP candidate attributed the woes of Bayelsa to many years of cluelessness, incompetence, avarice, profligacy and anti-people policies of the PDP insisting that the current administration had no idea of how to tackle the issues.

He said: “Why is Governor Douye Diri and the PDP still campaigning for a second term? Data technology company, StatiSense, recently unveiled the Multidimensional Poverty Index of 2022 report of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Read Also: Peter Obi expresses shock over 20 headless bodies, countless skeletons found in Abia

“That report exposed the number of people living in multidimensional poverty in the oil-rich Niger Delta states. That report is alarming, and distressing and goes to show the failure of the PDP leadership of Bayelsa since 1999. It shows that the PDP leadership and the current government of Douye Diri diverted and squandered all our commonwealth.

“Bayelsa has the red flag in all developmental indices. It will shock you to know that 2.61 million people out of the 2.9 million people are languishing in abject poverty. This is to say that 88 per cent of our population is extremely poor despite the humongous resources and revenue coming into this state.

“While Sokoto, a desert, occupies the first position, Bayelsa, an oil-rich state is coming second. What other proof do we need to know that the PDP has remained the whirlwind that will not blow this state and our people any good?

“What other evidence do we need as a people to know that this forthcoming election affords us the people an opportunity to kick out Diri and his party? They mean no good for our state and should be given a red card.”

Eradiri also said that Bayelsa ranked as the third state with the worst unemployment rate in the country was proof that Diri and his party had no business seeking any reelection.

He called on the people to massively vote for the credible alternative offered by the LP saying that with his People, Education, Agriculture, Power (PEAP) agenda he would give the state a solid fresh beginning.

  • Bayelsa to host town hall meetings on peaceful poll

Bayelsa State Government has initiated town hall meetings in all communities across the state to ensure peace in the state before, during and after the forthcoming general elections.

The state’s Commissioner for Youth Development, Udengs Eradiri, spoke on the plans for the town hall meetings when he visited the Commander of the 16th Brigade, Brig.Gen, Kelvin Aligbe in Yenagoa, the state capital.

Eradiri, who was accompanied by the Executive Chairperson, African Youth Union Commission (AYUC), Mr. Karl Oshodi, told the commander and officers of the brigade that his boss, Governor Seriake Dickson, was desirous of maintaining the existing peace in the state.

He said his ministry would drive the town hall meetings since the initiative was designed to reach all the youths in various parts of the state.

He said through the town hall meetings, the government would showcase its achievements to the youths and make them understand the relationship between peace and development.

He said such engagements would further help to develop programmes to keep the youths busy and address pockets of criminalities in communities.

The commissioner said the government was also interested in eliminating idleness among the youths through training and skill acquisition programmes.

“The government views the town hall meeting as very important. We will tour all the communities to sensitize the people on the need to maintain the peace before, during and after the election.

He said: “The Restoration Government of Governor Seriake Dickson has worked hard to enthrone peace in the state and we will not allow agents of destabilization to rubbish the efforts of this government. We want the people to have the government’s disposition that election is not war to enable them resist agents of violence”.

Eradiri called for collaboration between the government and the brigade to combat crimes especially at the electioneering period.

In his remarks, Aligbe said the brigade as part of its corporate responsibility to its host communities donated sporting and instructional materials to Elebele Secondary School.

He said if well-utilized, the materials would help to build the students’ physical and mental growth adding that the command detailed some officers to the school to instruct the students.

He appealed to persons in positions of authority to ameliorate the suffering of the masses noting that crises in most communities were caused by unfair distribution of resources.

“I am looking for a day when the visit to the creeks by security agents will not be for combating insecurity and destruction of oil facilities but for fun fare such as picnic and other merry-making programmes.

He commended the governor for proactively suspending all youth elections in the state until after the 2019 general elections.
