    How I suffered kidney disease for 12 years – Ufuoma McDermott’s

    Actress and producer Ufuoma McDermott has shed light on her gruelling 12-year battle with chronic kidney disease.

    She revealed the devastating consequences of unchecked chronic pain and medication overuse.

    In a conversation with Chude Jideonwo, McDermott shared how the loss of her younger brother to kidney disease sparked her own health struggles.

    She said despite initial Stage 3 diagnosis, delayed intervention escalated her condition to Stage 4.

    McDermott attributed her kidney disease to years of ingesting excessive painkillers.

    She said in part: “I had pushed my body and I was borderline stage 4. Last year was a very very trying time in my life where I thought I was gonna die. I have battled chronic kidney disease for about 12 years now.”

  • ‘Hear Word’ goes to Edinburgh

    Popular stage play, Hear Word!, tagged ‘Naija Woman Talk True’ which tell stories of domestic violence, overturning the status quo, abuse, disrespect, bravery, sisterhood and joy, will be staged at the Edinburgh International Festival holding from August 19 to August 25 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

    Hear Word! is Nigerian pidgin English for ‘Listen and Comply’. In this unflinchingly honest performance, ten of Nigeria’s biggest stars of theatre, film and television come together on stage to tell multi-generational stories of inequality and transformation.

    Hear Word! gives an intimate view into the obstacles that Nigerian women face. Stories of domestic violence, of women’s absence from positions of power, of resilience and resistance, of shattering the culture of silence, of overturning the status quo, of abuse, disrespect, bravery, sisterhood and joy.

    Some of the cast are already gearing up and have posted about the play.

  • Mo Abudu, Banky W, others attend ‘Up North’ premiere

    Inkblot Productions and Anakle Films held the premiere of Tope Oshin’s, ‘Up North’, recently at the IMAX Cinema, Lekki.

    The premiere which was tagged “The Grand Durbar” and the dress code themed “Show me your North” was attended by celebrities such as Mo Abudu, Ebuka Obi Uchendu, Noble Igwe, Lala Akindoju, Lota Chukwu, Ihuoma Linda Ejiofor, Jemima Osunde, Adeolu Adefarasin, Damilola Adegbite, Frank Donga, Ufuoma McDermott, Chioma Akpotha, Sharon Ooja, Mai Atafo, Meg Otanwa, Antolecky, Bisola Aiyeola and many others.

    Present at the premiere also  were cast members such as Banky W, Ibrahim Suleiman, Michelle Dede, Kanayo.O. Kanayo, Rekiya Attah,Rahama Sadau and many more. The premiere also saw important personalities and dignitaries such as  The Governor and Emir of Bauchi.

    Directed by Tope Oshin and written by Naz Onuzo and Bunmi Ajakaiye from an original story by Editi Effiong, the movie tells the story of love, family conflict, female empowerment as well as the rich northern culture and tourism. ‘Up North’ opens at  all cinemas from December 28, 2018.

  • Chioma Akpotha, Ufuoma McDermott return to school

    Two Nollywood actors – Chioma Akpotha and Ufuoma McDermott are currently taking a new course at one of Nigeria’s popular schools – Pan Atlantic University’s School of Media and Communication.

    McDermott who posted a picture of herself in a blue trouser suit at the entrance of the University’s building, revealed that the new course is in collaboration with FilmOneNg.

    “Having produced over 100hours of motion picture content, I’m here for the #BusinessInFilm at the @panatlanticuniversity: School of Media and Communication, in collaboration with @filmoneng,” she stated.

    Akpotha also penned this memo on her first day, saying; “Great day to start. Yes you can; my first day in school. Business in Film at the @panatlanticuniversity School of Media and communication in collaboration with @filmoneng.”

    Report says both are taking a short course on Executive Programme in Business of Film.
