    Tech outfit trains Ugandan football coaches

    Tech staffing company , Tunga , recently  organised  five-day course for Ugandan football coach educators with the sole objective  of  , training youth football players into becoming problem-solvers on and off the pitch.

    The course which was facilitated by the Federation of Ugandan Football Associations (FUFA) took place at  the federation’s  Technical Centre in Njeru in December  with over 38 coaches from seven regions  of the country in attendance.

    Tunga’s CEO, who is also a UEFA-B certified youth football coach, Ernesto Spruyt, brought a team of experts from the Netherlands to conduct the training course. Among them is Kevin Kanu of Kanu

    Experience, who is also a youth coach at Sparta Rotterdam.

    The training curriculum consisted of both theoretical and field training.

     Spruyt who spoke on problem-solving skills as an important phenomenon in any profession whether on the pitch or in tech, said the goal of training FUFA coaches was to integrate the art of problem-solving into the way they teach football.

     “You need to solve problems! Create a culture where they (youths) are allowed to make mistakes, where they are allowed to take risks. Create an environment where it’s safe to make mistakes, risk and penalty-avoiding behaviour limits learning,” he said.

    The Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA) chairman, Robert Kiwanuka expressed his gratitude for the  training,  saying it  was  a boost to the Ugandan football industry and it would help the coaches to meet foreign standards.

    FUFA Technical Director, Ali Mwebe, showed great delight and noted that most of the FUFA coaches need more resident educators who can provide them with quality training in their regions.

     “This course will give them a chance to have their abilities, qualities, and skills identified.We believe this is a wonderful development working with Uganda Youth Football Associations.”

    Speaking with one of the participants, the director of Kickit Soccer Academy in Uganda, Alex Kahlima said the course has changed his idea on what coaching is and how to improve his coaching career

     “The course has taught us as coaches to be more player-centred rather than being coach-centred because the player solves the problems on the field [in comparison with] always having the coaches conducting everything without the influence or involvement of the players.”

    Tunga, a technology staffing firm, has shown its commitment to Ugandan football by hosting a five-day training course for football coach educators in Uganda.

    The course, facilitated in collaboration with the Federations of Ugandan Football Associations (FUFA), took place from December 13th to 17th, 2023, at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Uganda.

    The training aimed to equip youth football players with problem-solving skills both on and off the pitch, benefiting over 38 coaches from seven regions.

    Ernesto Spruyt at the concluding stages of the training said: “Football is a creative channel to teach young people life skills such as the art of critical thinking and problem solving and the coaches are funnels to spread this knowledge amongst the youths in Uganda. We are positive that the coaches can influence their players by leveraging this knowledge, causing a ripple effect and making not just great football players but also better human beings.”

    The training ended on the 17th of December, 2023 with an awarding ceremony where each participant coach received a certificate.

    Ugandan Envoy applauds visiting Nigerian Golf and Tour Group

    The Uganda High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency, Amb Nelson Ocheger, has commended the Nigerian Golf and Tour Group that  recently  went  on a golfing tour of Uganda.

    He made this commendation during the prize presentation ceremony at the end of the group’s  two-day golf tournament that began at the Serena Golf Course and ended at the Ugandan Golf Club in Kampala- which was established in 1908.

    He stressed that the much desired integration of Africa can best be achieved through  interactions amongst Africans  even as he encouraged Nigerians as well as Ugandans to identify areas of possible investments in both countries and get involved in defining both country’s collective socio-economic prosperity.

    Leader of the Group, Air Vice Marshal Clement Aroriode (Rtd), was full of praises  to the government  and Ugandans as  well as  leadership of  Ugandan Golfing Union including captains and their members for hosting  the Golf & Tour Group Nigeria.

    He applauded the Ugandan golfing community for the warm reception accorded the Group, adding the Nigerian  contingent had an exciting and memorable time visiting and playing in three different golf courses in Uganda.

    The Group’s experiences in Uganda Golf Club, Kampala established in 1908, Serena Golf & Country Resort and the Entebbe Golf Course which was established in 1901 and the oldest in the East African sub-region which can better be imagined than overtly expressed.

    The Deputy Leader Rear Admiral Goddy Ayankpele (Rtd),  in a vote of thanks, thanked the Captain of the Uganda Golf Club, Kampala for availing the Group the facilities of the club to host it’s tournament. He appreciated the leadership of the Group including the Coordinator, Maj Gen David Ahamdu (Rtd). He commended specially the Group’s International Coordinator, Maj Gen Adamu Jidda (Rtd) for his dedication, commitment and tireless efforts put in to ensuring the smooth conduct of the maiden edition of the Group’s international tour.

    Some of the dignitaries that graced the occasion included Moses Matsiko-President Uganda Golf Union, Anthony Agaba-Hon Secretary, Uganda Golf Union, Anne Abeja-Immediate Past President Uganda Ladies Golf Union, Emmanuel Wamala-Captain Uganda Golf Club Kampala and Jovia N. Tugume-Lady Captain Entebbe Golf Club.

    Prizes were presented at the occasion to members of the Golf and Tour Group Nigeria including Dr Ademola Makinde who emerged the overall Champion, Maj. Gen OW Ali (Rtd) Runner up Net, Mr Hassaan Mundu, First Runner Up Net, Maj Gen Habila Vintenaba (Rtd) 2nd Runner Up Net and Brig Gen Mustapha Onoyiveta (Rtd), won the Tournament’s Best Gross Trophy. Maj Gen Chukwuemeka Abraham (Rtd) won the Closest to the Pin and Brig Gen David Lubo (Rtd) won the Longest Drive.

    In a related development, the Group also participated in the Stanbic Entebbe Open sponsored by Stanbic Bank, Uganda. The Tournament which was played over  four days saw the Golf & Tour Group members participating in the amateur category. One of the Group’s members Maj Gen Godwin Umelo (Rtd) was the winner of the Category C event.

    The Golf and Tour Group Nigeria which is a non-governmental organization, non-partisan and non-profit making golfing entity was established in 2021. The main objective of the Group is to foster golfing unity and advance the game of golf in Nigeria.

    The Group also embarked  on humanitarian activities by reaching out to orphanages in the host communities during their tours.

    Members of the Golf and Tour Group Nigeria were in Uganda  between  29th  October and  5th  November and  has since returned to Nigeria with sweet memories of Uganda.
