Ujah Hails Bayern Munich’s David Alaba

Cologne striker Anthony Ujah has spoken of his admiration for Bayern Munich wing-back David Alaba, saying the Austria international is in a league of his own.

Both players came face-to-face at the Allianz-Arena on Friday night, as Cologne lost 4-1 to the Bundesliga champions, and Ujah has admitted that he was left mesmerized by the skills of the 22-year-old.

”David Alaba is a very good player, and for his age he is perfect, fast and calculative, ” said Anthony Ujah to SL10.ng.

”I didn’t have the chance to talk with him because I was substituted before the end of the game.

”Neuer was the man of the day as he saved two important chances, but I think we gave a good account of ourselves knowing the calibre of players we came up against.

”We will take every game as it comes and hopefully we will collect more points as we can, ” the Cologne number 9 concluded.

Honoured to play for Nigeria — Ujah

Nigerian striker Anthony Ujah has only fantastic memories of the last six matches with the Super Eagles. The striker, who has just completed a transfer to FC Koln in Germany from Mainz, was happy that he featured in four of those six matches.

“I know that we got criticisms as strikers for chances missed at the Confederations Cup, but for me the honour of representing Nigeria in the World Cup qualifiers against Kenya and Namibia and then being involved in the tournament in Brazil will live with me forever”.

The former Warri Wolves and Lillestrom of Norway striker is a firm believer in his own ability “I have always wanted to play for Nigeria and so, when I was doing well in Norway but never got a call up, I refused to give up. “

He knows the expectations that come with playing for Nigeria “We have many good forwards available for selection for Nigeria, so when I got to camp I worked very hard in training and was determined to take my chance when called upon.”

Against Kenya in that must-win W/Cup Qualifier in Nairobi, as the Nigerian team chased the winner Keshi took a gamble by taking off Brown Ideye and brought on Ujah. His impact was immediate and had an attempt with a header that just narrowly cleared the bar. Unlike the willing Ideye, Ujah was far more central and offered the midfielders and wide men options in the box. “I was ready to get on and do my best for the country, we needed that win and thank God we got it.”

His cameo performance got him a starting place against Namibia a few days later in the next qualifier. He showed his all-round good game but was unlucky not to score against the southern Africa country. The Namibian keeper pulled off a brilliant stop in the first half. Ujah cannot think more highly of Coach Keshi even if he tried.

“The man is unbelievable. He is forever talking to you, encouraging you, telling you where and what to improve on your game.

“He wants each and everyone of us to be the best we can possibly be but somehow still manages to manage us as individuals”.

After the match against Haiti, Ujah sat out the Uruguay and Spain matches. “I did not feel low. The Big Boss was not even angry with me, still spoke with me in training encouraging me to watch what he wants from me when I get on and that made me feel so good”.

After the Confederations Cup, Ujah says he returned to Nigeria and had private “thanksgiving celebrations for the honour of playing for Nigeria” with friends and family. That is one footballer who understands the honour of playing for the fatherland. He will have one big party if he scores the goal that takes Nigeria to the 2014 World Cup, one is inclined to think.

    Ujah accepts fans’ criticisms

NIGERIA’S Anthony Ujah believes he performed below expectations in Monday’s 6-1 bashing of Tahiti at the ongoing FIFA Confederations Cup at Belo Herizonte, Brazil.

The former Warri Wolves ace, who spent last season with FC Cologne in Bundesliga 2 on loan from Mainz 05, told SportingLife that he totally accepts any condemnation of his performance during the encounter.

“I’m very glad that we emerged victorious. I must admit that this is not my best performance and truly deserves all the criticism from the fans at the stands.

“However, I will not fail to congratulate Oduamadi for emerging the Man of the Match,” noted Ujah who was replaced by Brown Ideye in the second half of the match.

    UJAH CELEBRATES 13TH BUNDESLIGA GOAL

SUPER EAGLES invitee, Anthony Ujah is excited after scoring his 13th goal for Bundesliga 2 campaigners, FC Cologne over the weekend.

The former Warri Wolves and FC Abuja ace took to the social media on Monday to fraternize with friends after the Billy Goats lost out to FC Kaiserslautern in the race for the promotion play-off spot despite the win in Ingolstadt. “Perfect way to end the season. 3:0 and scored my 13th goal of the season. Thank you Lord, Good victory. “Though we didn’t reach out target but it’s important to win today for the fans and our coach,” said Ujah who is on season-long loan from Mainz 05.

Meanwhile, Ujah’s manager at FC Cologne, Holger Stanislawski has announced that he will leave his post as head coach of Budesliga 2 outfit 1. The 43-year-old joined the club at the end of last term following their relegation from the Bundesliga but was unable to lead them back to the top flight this term.

“This wasn’t a decision I made easily,” said Stanislawski after communicating his desire to have his contract cancelled to the club’s board. “After a tough rebuilding process at the start of the season, we set ourselves the target of finishing in the top third of the table, to improve the perception of the club and to develop young players.

“After the winter break, it was my personal goal to finish in third place, but I wasn’t able to extract the maximum from the team in the games that mattered.”
