  • Buhari Leaves Daura for Abuja after APC congress

    President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday departed Daura in Katsina State for Abuja after participating in Saturday’s APC ward congress.

    The News men reports, the President voted at his Sarkin Yara `A’ ward, Daura.

    The news men reports that the president’s helicopter, marked NAF-540, took off from the Daura helipad at 9:25 am for Abuja.

    The president was seen off at the departure point by the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk, top party officials and several well-wishers.

    Unconfirmed sources however, the news men that president Buhari, was expected to make a stop-over in Katsina to commiserate with the family of the late Chief Imam of Katsina, Malam Muhammad Lawal, who died on Sunday at the age of 95.

  • Emir of Daura charges NIPSS participants to promote national unity

    The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk, on Friday enjoined participants of Course 40 of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) to shun divisive tendencies that would further polarise Nigeria.

    Farouk gave the charge when the course participants, who were on local study tour of Daura and its environs, paid him a homage.

    The emir described the institute as the melting pot of intellectualism and strategy where excellent and beneficial policy issues were worked out for the socio-economic benefits of the nation.

    He called on the participants to strive at putting national interests above every other consideration for the social, political and economic development of the nation.

    He said that the role of the institute in the promotion of peace and stability was important, adding that “we have for long been playing host to the participants of this great citadel of learning”.

    The monarch described tribalism, sectionalism and religious bigotry as the fault lines impeding Nigeria’s unity and urged participants that they must endeavour to “implement all that you learnt to tackle the problems facing the country.”

    He said the Federal Government would need the intellect, knowledge, experience and the wisdom of the products of the institute in dealing with the security problems facing some parts of the country.

    He described President Muhammadu Buhari as “a man of peace “who always wants the best for Nigeria right from his days in the military up-to the present time.”

    “ I urge you to shun greed and licentious lifestyle as we would all go back to God and account for our deeds.

    “We should focus on issues that would unite us than those that would divide us ” he said.

    The emir also urged the Federal Government to give the institute adequate funding and logistical supports that will enable it to continue to thrive.

    “Kuru is not for everybody, but only those who made marks in their choose career,” he stressed.

    Earlier, the Acting Director-General of the institute and leader of the team, Mr Jonathan Juma, Mni, said the participants were at the palace to seek for royal blessings and wisdom from the legendary Dunama Palace.

    He said the tour was aimed at interacting with traditional, religious and community leaders on how to strengthen community policing as well as fashion out modalities on how to achieve lasting peace and stability.

    Juma said that after the tour, the participants were expected to report back to Mr President about their findings and recommendations on strategy and policy development.

    Highlights of the tour were visit to the historical sites of the Daura Emirate like the Kusugu well and other places

  • Katsina State: Service begins sensitisation on fire control

    Federal Fire Service in Katsina State has commenced sensitisation visits to communities on proactive fire control measures to ensure reduction in outbreaks.

    Malam v, the Commanding Officer in charge of Katsina, disclosed this when his team visited the Emir of Daura,  Alhaji Umar Farouk, on Thursday.

    He said the sensitisation was on installation of first aid firefighting equipment like fire extinguisher and other relevant equipment.

    He solicited the cooperation and understanding of traditional, religious and community leaders for the success of the programme.

    Musa said that the programmed started simultaneously across the 34 local government areas of the state.

    He added that the team would visit schools, markets, motor parks, public buildings and residential houses for interactive sessions with the people.

    The Emir of Daura described the programme as timely and important, considering the instances of fire outbreaks being recorded in the state.

    Farouk commended the service for initiating the programme, adding that the emirate would support the initiative.

    Court remands carpenter over attempt to steal car

    A Sokoto Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 37-year-old carpenter, Murtala Saidu, over alleged attempt to steal a Honda Civic car.

    The Chief Magistrate, Abubakar Adamu, remanded Saidu after he pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and attempt to commit an offence to wit theft.

    Adamu adjourned the case till Aug. 20 for hearing.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Naallah Jibo, told the court that the accused, who resides in Mabera area in Sokoto, was caught while unlawfully disconnecting the wiring of the car with the intent to steal it.

    Jibo said that the Honda civic car, BC 987 DKA, belonging to Umar Farouk was parked in front of the complainant’s house

    He told the court that the complainant reported the incident at Ungwuan Rogo Police Station, Sokoto.

    The prosecutor said the offences contravened Section 95 of the Penal Code.

    Katsina: Emir tasks new Speaker on good governance

    The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk, has advised the new Speaker of Katsina State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Kusada to consolidate on the cordial working relationship between the legislature and the executive arm of government in the state.

    Farouk gave the advice in Daura on Tuesday when the Speaker paid him a courtersy visit at his palace.

    He said harmonious working relationship between the three arms of government – judiciary, executive and legislature – would bring about rapid socioeconomic development.

    “We expect continuation of good governance which is a catalyst for progress of our people,” Farouk said, adding that the cardinal principle of good governance is justice and fairness.

    He called on the Speaker to always put the interest of the state first and steer the assembly to enact laws that would accelarate the general development of the state.

    The Emir, reminded the Speaker that power comes from God and every person would account for his deeds on the Day of Judgement.

    He assured the new Speaker of the support of the Emirate Council in the task of placing the state on the path of progress and development.

    Earlier, Kusada had told the Emir that the visit was to seek for royal blessings and advice.

    He pledged to carry everbody along and uphold the provisions of the nation’s Constitution at all times.

    The Speaker described traditional rulers as custodians of peace and culture, stressing that he would always consult the Emir for guidance.

    He promised to consolidate on the existing cordial relationship between all arms of government in the interest of the state and its people.

    The Speaker was recently selected by the members after a vote of no confidence on the erstwhile speaker, Aliyu Muduru.

    Daura Emirate Council holds prayer for Buhari

    The Daura Emirate Council in Katsina State on Friday conducted a marathon prayer session invoking Allah’s protection and good health for President Muhammadu Buhari.

    The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk led the prayers at his palace in Daura, attended by thousands of residents.

    The President who hails from Daura is currently in London on medical vacation.

    The emir said that Buhari needs prayers not only for his health, but also divine guidance to lead Nigeria to greatness.

    “Mr. President is our son and he deserves much more than this,” the emir added.

    Farouk told the residents that there was no cause for alarm regarding the President’s health, assuring that “going by available contacts we have on daily basis, the President is in high spirit.”

    The emir stressed that leaders need constant prayers from their subjects, hence the decision by the emirate to organise the prayer session.

    He observed that the nation was undergoing positive reforms under the Buhari leadership, as such “needs our encouragement, support and prayers for him to succeed and build a better Nigeria.”

    Chief Imams of major Juma’at mosques in Daura, Mai’adua, Zango, Sandamu and Baure Local Government Areas under the emirate conducted the prayers, which included recitation of the complete Qur’an eleven times.
