Valencia, Sociedad bicker over loan deal for Umar

Valencia has reopened negotiations with Real Sociedad in a bid to re-sign Umar Sadiq on loan for the 2025/26 La Liga season.

The Nigerian international, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Mestalla, scored six goals in 19 appearances and played a key role in helping Valencia avoid relegation.

According to transfer expert Matteo Moretto, Sadiq remains a priority on Valencia’s shortlist of attacking targets, alongside Cyle Larin (Mallorca) and Bojan Miovski (Girona).

Despite having alternative options, Valencia continues to push for Sadiq, submitting a formal proposal to Real Sociedad last week.

The offer includes a season-long loan deal with a set fee, full wage coverage, and bonuses linked to appearances and goals.

However, sources close to Real Sociedad reveal that the club has rejected the idea of another loan, instead demanding a permanent transfer.

Sadiq is considered surplus to requirements by head coach Imanol Alguacil, and the club is actively working to reduce its squad size and wage bill before the close of the transfer window.

Spanish outlet AS claimed  that La Real is prioritizing definitive sales over temporary moves, hoping for stronger offers from abroad—particularly from clubs in Qatar and Saudi Arabia—but such interest has yet to materialize.

Despite this firm stance, negotiations remain ongoing. Valencia, who remain keen on the player, are said to be preparing a revised offer, possibly increasing the financial incentives to sway the Basque club’s position.

The coming days could prove decisive. Valencia manager Carlos Corberán reportedly views Sadiq as the ideal fit for his attacking plans and has encouraged the club to wait patiently until the final two weeks of the window to strike a deal on more favourable terms.

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad is under internal pressure to offload players like Sadiq who are no longer in the club’s plans.

Still, they remain cautious, preferring to wait for a more financially secure option rather than rush into another loan.

Getafe set to sign ‘struggling’ Sadiq on loan

Ahead of next month’s transfer window, Getafe are on the front queue to sign Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq on loan from Real Sociedad.

This move aims to bolster their struggling attack as they fight to avoid relegation from La Liga.

Since Borja Mayoral’s injury in October, Getafe have lacked a reliable goal-scorer. With no clear return date for the former Real Madrid player, the club is actively seeking a replacement to spearhead their survival bid.

Meanwhile, Sadiq is seeking a fresh start after struggling to establish himself at Sociedad. The Nigerian international, who returned from an ACL injury, has failed to recapture his previous form.

Spanish media claimed  an official announcement of Sadiq’s loan move to Getafe could be imminent, potentially as early as the transfer window opens.

Sadiq has yet to score in 11 appearances for Imanol Alguacil’s side this season. He hopes to regain his confidence and rediscover his scoring touch at a club where he would be the primary striker.

Getafe, currently 17th in the league and just one point above the relegation zone, desperately need a goal scoring threat. They have the league’s lowest goal tally with only 11 goals in 18 games.

Sadiq joined Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022 for a €20 million transfer fee.
