    Kaduna: Police nab 15 kidnap suspects

    Against the backdrop of incessant high profile kidnap cases in Kaduna State, the Kaduna State Police Command has nabbed 15 suspects, including those terrorising Kaduna-Abuja Express Way where three Pastors were recently kidnapped and an Army Colonel killed.

    The Police however rescued two kidnap victims, one Engr Mansur Musa and Elijah Afolabi from deadly kidnappers.

    The Police Commissioner, Umar Shehu while addressing Journalists shortly after parading the suspects said the gang included those who kidnapped Engr. Mansur Ahmed along Abuja/ Kaduna express way.

    According to the Commissioner, some of the suspects were in possession of foreign currencies and valuables suspected to have been snatched from their victims.

    Some of the suspects paraded before  newsmen confessed to be members of kidnapping gangs operating along Kaduna-Abuja express way.

    One of them told newsmen that he was among members of the gang that kidnapped a Pastor in Jere, Kaduna state.

    The Commissioner said the police were still investigating involvement of the suspects in alleged kidnapping of late Army Colonel Ismail Inusa, killed last week along the same road.

    According to him, “In two to three days all necessary information as regards to the suspects will be revealed as investigation is ongoing.”

    According to him, another suspects were arrested by the Anti-Crime Patrol team in Kabala West for threatening some prominent personalities from their village and demanding for Ransom.

    The Commissioner further reasured members of the public of police readiness to make Kaduna safe and habitable.

    He urged residents to assist the police with useful information to track down criminals in the state.

    The Nation recall that, three HEKAN Pastors were recently abducted at the site of their church permanent site along Kaduna-Abuja express way. While, Nigerian Army Colonel, Samaila Inusa was equally kidnapped at Kamazo area of Kaduna metropolis and killed along Kaduna-Abuja Road.

  • Illegal arm manufacturing factory discovered in Kaduna

    Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu, on Friday paraded Bulus Kinze and James Kinze both from Kogun village in Jema’a local government area of the state for allegedly using their residence for manufacturing of illegal arms and ammunitions and equally serving as main supplier of arms to armed bandits within the area.

    The police commissioner said when the suspects were arrested and their residence raided, several were recovered.

    They were – two locally made AK-47 rifles, one locally made SMG rifle and its magazine, two locally made pistols, two police coloured AK-47 magazines, one locally made AK-47‎ magazine, 20 live 0.36 special revolver ammunition, three live 7.62mm long lar ammunitions, 11 live 7.62mm short, AK-47 ammunition and three live cartridges.

    Others are – one live 5.5mm, T.6 ammunition, ‎14 empty shells of 7.62mm short, AK-47 ammunition, 17 empty shells of 0.36 special revolver pistols ammunition, one expanded cartridges, some parts of locally made AK-47 rifle and parts of other rifles, one drilling machine used in production of rifles, one hand driller, some instrument for fabrication of rifles and some assorted charms.

    Fulani, Southern Kaduna communities agree to end hostilities

    Fulani herdsmen and communities in southern Kaduna yesterday agreed to end hostilities.

    The resolution was reached at the end of a two-day meeting in Kaduna under the auspices of the Police Peace and Reconciliation Committee, headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operation, Michael Zuokumor.

    The two groups want those responsible for the killing of innocent persons in southern Kaduna arrested and prosecuted.

    The recommendation was signed by Ahmadu Suleiman (Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria), Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi (Miyyeti Allah Kautal Hore Socio-Cultural Association) and Ahmad Mairiga Yandeh (Mobgal Fulbe Development Association) for the Fulani.

    Dr. Ephraim Goje and Bitrus Gwadah signed for the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union and Musa Abu Sheyin for the southern Kaduna communities.

    It was also signed by Zuoikumor, Commissioner of Police Umar Shehu and DCP Sanusi Lemu from the Zone 7 headquarters, among other witnesses.

    The participants said: “The two associations concerned have resolved today to condemn this wanton destruction of lives and property and also declare a ceasefire.

    “This is to create an enabling environment for dialogue for the return of enduring peace and unity in the area.”

    They recommend the establishment of a peace and reconciliation commission by the government, while the movement of people should be closely monitored.

    “Government should make all efforts to reach out to nomadic pastoralists and other Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and give them some palliatives and encourage them to return to their original places of abode.

    “There is also need to return to the traditional intelligence gathering mechanisms.

    “Mobile police and military units should be established in Kafanchan and Birnin Gwari for quick response to security challenges.

    “Government at all levels should improve on security agencies capabilities of handing crisis by providing adequate logistics.

    “Proliferation of small and medium arms should be seriously checked. Creation of the ministry of Animal Resourcfes out of the present Ministry of Agriculture is highly recommended.

    “There is also the need to implement the recommendations of all previous committees established by Kaduna state government on peace and reconciliation.

    “The youths should be sensitized on the need for self-restraint and not to talk laws into their hands.

    “All outstanding issues with respect to boundary disputes with neighbouring states should be resolved by the relevant government agencies.”

    Ex-Yakowa’s aide held for posting attack pictures online

    The police in Kaduna State have arrested a former Senior Special Assistant to the late Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa on Media, Reuben Buhari, for posting pictures of the Kaura massacre online.

    He was invited for questioning on March 19 and detained for about six hours and made to write an undertaking not to post more pictures before he was released.

    Commissioner of Police Umar Shehu said yesterday Buhari would be transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

    In a text message to The Nation at 12.38 p.m., Buhari said: “I have been invited to the Force Headquarters again by the police commissioner. Right now on my way.”

    At 2:30 p.m., the police chief announced that he was taking Buhari to Abuja on the instructions of the inspector-general.

    Shehu said: “No one has the power to tell me to transfer a case to Abuja, except the inspector-general. I don’t know how the case got to Abuja. I cannot transfer a case to Force CID on my own.”

    Efforts by Celestine Anwe, who led other lawyers to the police headquarters, to stop the arrest, failed.

    Buhari said to the police commissioner: “Sir, I thank you for your kindness. This has nothing to do with you. This is politics. We know where this is coming from.

    “All I want is to take permission to give my wife something for her upkeep since she just put to bed on Monday and I just brought her back home this morning from the hospital.”

    His request was denied.
