Authorities of the University of Benin have queried a lecturer of the institution, Prof. Isaiah Ibeh for making public the discovery of a possible cure for HIV/AIDS virus without clearance.

It was gathered that the university management was amazed when they read about the discovery of the drug from Prof. Ibeh.

Prof. Ibeh, who is the Dean of Basic Medical Sciences, had told a reporter that he had discovered an oral drug made from plant extraction in Nigeria for the possible cure of HIV/AIDS.

Sources told The Nation that several international organisations and agencies bombarded the university management with calls to find out about the veracity of the drug.

When The Nation visited the university to get more comments from Prof. Ibeh, the Provost of the College of Medicine, Prof. Vincent Iyawe, said they don’t want Prof. Ibeh to make further comments on the findings because they were investigating the claims.

Prof. Iyawe said the university was not carried along during the research and that all procedures were not followed.
