    APC chieftain donates food items to orphanage

    A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Alimosho  Local Government and former Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Pharm (Mrs) Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf on Friday donated food items and groceries to the Little Saints Orphanage in the Ekoro area of Abule Egba, a Lagos suburb. 

     The donation was part of the activities planned for the celebration of the 50th birthday of Akinbile-Yussuf.

    The items donated include bags of rice, garri, beans, cartons of noodles, salt, biscuits, and packaged beverages among others.

    The former Commissioner, popularly called Moremi in the political circle was accompanied to the orphanage by her husband, Alhaji Adegboyega Olubodun Yussuf, children, and associates.

    While speaking at the orphanage, Akinbile-Yussuf noted that the best way to give back to society, especially the underprivileged, is by being in their presence for any celebration.

    She said: “I am very pleased to be here with you all. The last time I visited here (the orphanage) was when I was the commissioner in charge of the Youth and Social Development Ministry in the State, so it was important to celebrate my 50th birthday with you all. “

    Ex-commissioner clears medical bill of indigent patients at LASUTH

    The immediate past Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture in Lagos State, Pharm (Mrs) Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf on Thursday cleared the medical bills of no fewer than 20 indigent patients on admission at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital(LASUTH). 

    The beneficiaries were largely patients who had been discharged but had no money to pay for the hospital bill.

    Akinbile-Yussuf and her team were received by the Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, Prof.  Adetokunbo Fabamwo.

    The gesture according to the commissioner was part of the activities to mark her 50th birthday coming up next week.

    Medical consumables such as bandages, plasters, and disinfectants among others were also donated for the use of patients at the hospital.

    Fabamwo commended Akinbile-Yussuf for extending her gesture to LASUTH, praying that God grant her a long life as she marked her golden birthday.

    Speaking, Akinbile-Yussuf said: ”This is not the first time we are giving back to the society. We know that the government cannot do everything alone hence we have chosen LASUTH this time around.

    ‘’It is important that we give back to society starting with LASUTH because as a former member of the state cabinet, the Lagos State government has invested so much in this hospital. As a commissioner, there was a time I visited this hospital and I had to pay the bills of indigent patients, hence, I am here once again for the same purpose.”

    Two-term Lagos commissioner, Princess Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf is looking forward to her 50th birthday with so much excitement.

    According to those who should know, there will be a convergence of classy well-wishers including top politicians, cerebral business mo- guls, friends, and associates in May for the celebration of the milestone age.

    Already, Juju legend, King Sunny Ade is billed to thrill guests at the climax of the celebration scheduled for the Marriott Hotels, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

    Popularly called Moremi in the political space, the charming businesswoman cum politician served in four ministries as commissioner including Youth and Social Development, Home Affairs, Employ- ment and Wealth Creation and Tourism, Arts and Culture from 2015 to 2023.

    She recently dabbled into the hospitality business and erected several multi-purpose relaxation centres and grocery stores.

    Economic crisis: Support your husbands, ex-commissioner tells women

    The immediate past Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture in Lagos State, Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf has urged women to give unflinching support to their husbands, against the backdrop of the economic imbalance in the country.

    The former commissioner made the appeal at a Ramadan lecture she hosted a few days ago at her home in the Alimosho area of Lagos.

    The theme of the event was ‘’Role of Women in Nation Development during Economic Challenges.’’

    She said: ‘’’ Women should support their husbands and not because of their husbands alone but because of their children too. When women thrash their husband because of financial problems, their husbands would lose their self-esteem and it would not augur well for their homes.

    ‘’Yes, the country is witnessing economic challenges, yet, as women, we must support our husbands for a peaceful home.”

    She urged Nigerians to pray for the success of the current administration at the centre and Lagos State.

    ‘’Things are hard but let us continue to pray for the success of the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu and before too long the Nigerian economy will experience a rebound,’’ she added.

    Guest speaker, Sheik Abdulmuhmin Raji Okin, noted that women have a crucial role to play in the socio-economic development of the country as well as in the development of domestic and communal living.

    ‘’Therefore, women have to be involved in the economic development of the country, especially by rallying around their husbands to ease the tension on them,’’ he said.
