Nigeria international Ejike Uzoenyi formalised his switch to Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday by appending his signature to a four – year contract.

It should be noted that the transfer window in South Africa is shut, therefore, the deal will start running this summer.

The signing ceremony, held at Royal Garden Hotel, Enugu had in attendance two representatives of the Brazilians and the agent of the Enugu Rangers ace.

Enugu Rangers General Manager, Paul Chibuzor has flatly denied reports that the exciting winger, who displayed his wares at the African Nations Championship, is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.

But this portal can exclusively reveal that the South African Premier Soccer League campaigners have been crediting Ejike Uzoenyi’s bank account with his wages since February when he reached an agreement in principle with the club.

On top of that,to lure the 26 – year – old to Pretoria, it is confirmed that Mamelodi Sundowns paid the CHAN Eagles star 150,000 Euros sign – on bonus. Apart from being on the radar of teams in South Africa, Ejike Uzoenyi was also wanted by clubs in Romania and France in the summer transfer market whichopens in the next two months.

African champions Nigeria will hope for more glory wearing the new World Cup kits, the Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi, has said.

The Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday unveiled the kits to be worn by the Eagles at Brazil 2014.

The home kit is in two refreshingly different shades of green from the current jersey, while the away kit is white with trimmings of green and red numbering.

“Our prayer is that the successes we have enjoyed so far continue with this new kit,” Amokachi told MTNFootball.com at the public presentation of the World Cup jersey in Abuja on Thursday.

“The jersey reminds us of the playing days of my boss “The Big Boss” in the 80’s.

“It has the shade of green they used back then and a touch of the green we used in Atlanta 96.”

CHAN MVP Ejike Uzoenyi was one of the first Eagles stars to model the new kits on Thursday.

“The jersey is great. It feels light on the skin and it’s top quality,” he praised.

“I like its texture and cannot wait to wear it for action next week.”

The Eagles will launch the jersey in a World Cup warm-up against Mexico on March 5 in United States.

Mpumalanga Black Aces, Ajax chase Uzoenyi

According to reports from South Africa, it is not only Orlando Pirates that are chasing Enugu Rangers star Ejike Uzoenyi.

Allnigeriasoccer.com has specially gathered that at least six other clubs have expressed interest in the signature of the Nigeria international who displayed his wares at the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The identities of the clubs the agent of Ejike Uzoenyi is negotiating with is a closely guarded secret.

But this portal understands that in the last few days, the Premier Soccer League’s Ajax Cape Town and Mpumalanga Black Aces have joined the list of suitors scrambling for the much coveted winger.

25 – year – old Uzoenyi, who is back in Nigeria, has mandated his agent to continue talks with the PSL teams.

Enugu Rangers and Nigeria winger Ejike Uzoenyi has returned to his country after he could not secure a contract at any club in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in South Africa.

Uzoenyi has been linked with SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns after he emerged as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa.

The former Enyimba man has told supersport.com that he is now back in Nigeria and will leave “negotiations with my manager to handle.”

“I’m back in Nigeria now after holding talks with a club in South Africa. Nothing has been agreed upon yet but my manager will continue to discuss with them,” Uzoenyi told supersport.com on Thursday but preferred to hold back the identity of the club he held talks with.

Reports emerged from South Africa this week claiming that Uzoenyi held talks with SuperSport United.

However, the interest from Matsatsantsa for the winger has been reportedly discontinued.

Also, details of the discussion between Uzoenyi’s representatives and the PSL club remain undisclosed.

Enugu Rangers spokesman Foster Chime confirmed to supersport.com that Uzoenyi has returned to Nigeria and is expected to join the club’s pre-season programme for the 2013/14 Glo Premier League season.

“He has called to say he’s back in the country and will report to the team’s camp. The team is currently in Nnewi, the ground of Gabros International camping. Right now we cannot make official comment on him until he returns and by then we would have discussed with him,” Chime explained.

Uzoenyi was Nigeria’s standout player at the 2014 CHAN after he scored three goals and won three man-of-the-match awards.

CHAN Most Valuable Player, Ejike Uzoenyi, is on his way to a top South African club believed to be Orlando Pirates.

Two other Nigeria players from the 2014 CHAN squad, Azubuike Egwuekwe and Solomon Kwambe, are also on the verge of securing deals with South Africa teams.

The trio did not return with the rest of the squad on Sunday night when they arrived in Lagos.

Warri Wolves skipper Egwuekwe’s likely destination is Bidvest Wits. The “Clever Boys” had been searching for a top-class centre back after releasing Musa Bilankulu and due to the fact that Matthew Booth is not getting any younger.

Giant Egwuekwe is the exact type of centre back that coach Gavin Hunt loves to work with – tall, good in the air, powerful and composed.

MTNFootball.com reports that the likely destination of Sunshine Stars right back Solomon Kwanbe is not known yet.

According to the former media officer of Warri Wolves, Timi Ebikagboro, Egwuekwe has undergone a medical in South Africa already.

“Super Eagles and Warri Wolves defender Azubuike Egwuekwe having done his medical and with Emmanuel Ibru on the ground in South Africa to finalise the deal will hopefully sign for Wits FC of South Africa, while Ejike Uzoenyi will likely sign for Orlando Pirates of South Africa,” MTNFootball.com quoted Ebikagboro as saying on his Facebook page.

South Africa CHAN 2014 Most Valuable Player (MVP), Chrisantus Ejike Uzoenyi, has attributed his feat to his strong belief in God, as well as the immense support of his teammates and family members.

He also promised to ginger his teammates to battle for shirts in the World Cup in Brazil, because he feels that many of them are equal if not better than those who ply their trade outside the shores of Nigeria. The Rangers International of Enugu ace promised that the win of the MVP will not get him distracted, because he wants to etch a name for himself on Nigeria’s football annals.

Interestingly, all of Uzoenyi’s 22 teammates agreed that he deserved the title, as many of them acknowledged the petit playmaker, when he was named the tournament’s best.

Ahead of today’s third-place match between Nigeria and Zimbabwe at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa , Super Eagles forward, Ejike Uzoenyi has taken to the social media to parade the three Man of the Match awards he has grabbed so far.

The Enugu Rangers petit wing wizard took to his official facebook account ‘Ejike Uzoenyi’ on Friday to post the silverwares along with a message to friends and followers.

“God can do it for U also my footballer friends. Just pray and is done,” he added.

Uzoenyi, it would be recalled won his “Man of the Match” award against Mozambique’s Mambas, South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and Morocco’s Atlas Lions helping the Stephen Keshi tutored-side reach the semi-final of the CHAN Championship.

    • Shuns interviews section with journalists

SportingLife has scooped that Super Eagles chief coach, Stephen Keshi had told strikers Ejike Uzoenyi and Barnabas Imenger that he is depending on them to run down the silky Zimbabweans in today’s match.

The coach sounded it to his boys that after being ousted by Ghana in the semi-finals, he is not expecting to lose the third place match to Zimbabwe because he sees winning the third place as a good compensation to the Nigerians.

Keshi had cleverly avoided any interviews with the journalists covering the Africa Nations Championship as he openly begged them to give him room to do his work as he targets the bronze medal of the tournament.

He told some of the journalists that besieged the evening training session held at one of the training pitches of the Cape Town Stadium where Zimbabwe were using the other end to train too.

“You guys need to excuse me to finish the training session because tomorrow’s (today’s) match is very important for us. So you guys just need to excuse us for now,” he begged.

The Media Officer of the team, Ben Alaiya promised the Nigerian journalists covering the tournament that he would ensure that the chief coach talks to them after the training session, but Keshi went straight into the waiting bus and was driven away with his players.

    • To play winners of Group B Saturday
    • Agbim puts up sterling display

Christantus Ejike Uzoenyi scored two goals as Nigeria smashed South Africa’s dreams of progressing beyond the group stages of the African Nations Championship on Sunday, beating the hosts 3-1 and ensuring Nigeria joined Group A winners Mali in the quarter finals.

Uzoenyi opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, before Ifeanyi Ede scored the second — from the penalty spot — eight minutes later, sending the visitors into the half-time break with a comfortable lead.

Ejike put the result beyond doubt on 64 minutes to complete his brace and sent the host nation crashing out of the tournament at the first hurdle, despite Bernard Parker pulling one back in the 80th from a penalty.

Nigeria will face the group B winners in the quarter-finals and will wait until this evening matches before they can know their next opponent.

Bafana coach Gordon Igesund made four changes from his team that drew 1-1 with Mali earlier in the week, most notably, Itumeleng Khune, who was ruled out due to injury and was replaced in goal by Moeneeb Josephs.

The hosts got off to a flying start and soon sent Parker through on goal, following a quick burst from Mbatha, who had the better of his man and sailed past the defence.

Parker cut back and hit his left-footed curled effort on target, but straight at goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim, who made a straightforward stop to deny Parker the opener, just five minutes into the group decider

Tshabalala was next to test Agbim minutes later, but the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder could not beat the shot-stopper, who made a second solid save, parrying away Tshabalala’s well-hit effort from the set-piece.

South Africa looked lively in the middle of the field and chances opened up for Matthew Pattison and Thabo Nthethe, who rose above the Nigerian defence on 20 minutes and headed a powerful attempt at goal, but was thwarted by Agbim, who made another simple stop.

Against the run of play, however, Nigeria broke the deadlock through Ejike, who powered home a cross from Ifeanyi Ede, handing the Nigerians the vital lead midway through the opening half.

Things went from bad to worse for the home side on the half-hour mark, when Josephs’ handling error led to him bringing down Ejike in the area, leaving referee Mohamed Benouza no choice but to award a penalty.

Ede stepped up confidently and belted the penalty into the bottom right of goal, with Josephs getting a hand onto it, but failing to keep the shot out, as the Super Eagles extended their advantage in front of a stunned home crowd.

After the interval, Bafana looked to make a bright start, but soon Ede forced Josephs into a superb save after being left as the last man.

South Africa replied with a chance for Parker after an hour, but the striker’s athletic attempt did little to trouble Agbim, after Parker had been put through on goal and should have passed across the face of goal for Bafana’s oncoming numbers.

Mashego came agonisingly close a minute later with a snapshot from the edge of the area, but Agbim’s fingertip save did enough to keep out the danger.

But like before, Nigeria soaked up the pressure and hit Bafana on the break, as Ejike emphatically netted his second of the night, leaving a dejected home side condemned to the worst.

With little to smile about for the home crowd, Solomon Kwambe’s dismissal for a second yellow card gave Bafana a glimmer of hope 15 minutes from the end.

  • CHAN 2014: Uzoenyi wants repeat of AFCON glory

CHAN 2014: Uzoenyi wants repeat of AFCON glory

Ejike Uzoenyi has said he hopes Nigeria repeats last year’s AFCON glory at CHAN, which gets underway also in South Africa today.

The diminutive left winger was on the squad as Nigeria won a third Africa Cup of Nations in February last year.

“I strongly believe that we have the capabilities of emerging champions of CHAN,” said the player nicknamed ‘Okodo-Igbo’.

“The coach has drilled us very well on what is expected of us at the championship and what is left is for us to deliver the goods on the pitch. I don’t think any of our group stage opponents can challenge us.

“I hope to be second time lucky in South Africa with the Super Eagles ‘B’ team to add to the Nations Cup, we won here last year.”

The Eagles ‘B’ team have been robbed of some quality following the departure overseas of players like Sunday Mba, Godfrey Oboabona and Gomo Onduku.

“Yes, we are going to miss the services of such players like Mba, Oboabona and so many others, but that does not mean that we don’t have capable replacements,” he said.

“We are going to surprise everybody at the championship. There is no cause for alarm. We will come back with the trophy.”

Uzoenyi is already a full international for Nigeria. He has 18 international caps even though he has yet to score for the country at this level.

“I am not really disturbed by my lack of goals yet for the senior side because, after every match, the coach finds time to praise me for my contribution. However, I hope to break that goals’ drought at the CHAN and open my goals account,” he said.

The petite, but wily Ejike cut his teeth with Enugu-based non-league Samba F.C under late coach Ugochukwu a.k.a, ‘Eze-Ndi-Igbo’. He then featured for the likes of Kogi United, Gateway FC of Abeokuta and Enyimba before he pitched tent with Enugu Rangers in the 2008/09 season.

Uzoenyi’s Rangers team mate Sunday Chinedu has told MTNFootball.com the dashing forward will play a major role at CHAN.

“He is a great motivator with bags of tricks on the pitch and I hope he will be very influential for the team in South Africa 2014,” remarked midfielder Chinedu.

“With his dribbling skills, I see him drawing defenders to himself thereby freeing other attackers to bang in the goals.”

“Ejike is a player for any team. He crosses the ball very well and dribbles very well. I really enjoyed our partnership in Rangers. I pray that he finds his form at the championship for the world to really appreciate his God given talent,” added former teammate Emeka Nwanna.

The winger has returned from a short loan deal at French club Rennes and he will now be looking to use the CHAN to play himself back into the World Cup-bound Super Eagles.

“The World Cup is still far away and I would rather focus on the task at hand, which is the 2014 CHAN. It is only after CHAN that it would be wise to say anything about the World Cup,” he insisted.
