    ValueJet launches Lagos flights to Cotonou, Accra, Malabo in regional expansion

    ValueJet Airlines has announced plans to begin flight operations from its Lagos hub to Cotonou, Benin Republic; Accra, Ghana; and Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, as part of its regional growth strategy.

    The move comes less than three years after the carrier began scheduled flight operations and follows its entry into the regional market with the launch of direct flights from Lagos to Banjul, The Gambia, on May 15, 2025.

    The airline said its Lagos–Banjul route has been performing strongly, opening up the market and boosting travel opportunities for tourists, adventurers, and business travellers.

    Managing Director of ValueJet, Capt. Omololu Dapo Majekodunmi, said the new destinations reaffirm the airline’s commitment to connecting West Africa and fostering economic growth across the continent.

    He said, “Our goal is to make air connectivity on the West Coast and indeed Africa seamless, comfortable, affordable and a refreshing experience. We are ready to take up the challenge and kick off the second phase of our regional operations with the commencement of our Cotonou, Accra and Malabo services very soon.

    “We are expanding our West African presence to strategically connect key cities in the sub-region, ease connectivity for Africans and strengthen commercial ties between countries.

    “ValueJet is committed to easing the air transportation burden of Africans, and this will continue to drive our route expansion as well as fleet modernisation. We also recently received CRJ 1000 aircraft to further strengthen our domestic and regional operations”, he stated.

    The Managing Director of ValueJet Airlines, Capt Omololu Majekodunmi  has highlighted the economic benefits of the airline’s  recent inaugural flight to Banjul, The Gambian capital ,stressing that it  would further strengthen the trade relations between Nigeria and the West African country.

    Affirming the carrier’s commitment to safe and efficient operations, Majekodunmi said its  full  adherence  to all  prescribed regulations by authorities  on the route is guaranteed with the  deployment of its CRJ-900 aircraft.

    He said: “The launch of our Lagos to Banjul flight is yet another important milestone in ValueJets Airline’s vision to enhance regional connectivity and contribute to the economic growth of West Africa. Our commitment is to make travel within the continent more accessible and efficient with fares.”

    He further stated that the Lagos-Banjul connection is set to strengthen economic ties and foster tourism between Nigeria and The Gambia, two of West Africa’s most dynamic regions as the carrier is the only airline in West Africa that offers direct flight to Banjul.

    According to him, the route offers immense opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchange with The Gambia’s growing tourism sector and Nigeria’s bustling business landscape.

    The new service also supports businesses by providing quicker and more efficient travel options, bridging distances within the region.

    The carrier’s inaugural flight to Banjul on May 15, 2025, was marked with fanfare and the cutting of the ribbon in front of the check-in counters at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to signal the official opening of the route.

    The new route reflects ValueJet’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and expanding its footprint across West Africa.

    The airline commenced flights to link key cities across the continent and provide travellers with efficient travel options.

     In addition to the Lagos-Banjul flights, ValueJet will also connect travellers on its domestic network to Banjul, further broadening its services.

    The Gambian government expressed readiness to support the carrier and its passengers, acknowledging the airline’s plan to foster regional integration.

    ValueJet Airlines to resume Lagos-Jos flight operations April 2 

    In a move to expand its network and enhance regional connectivity, ValueJet Airlines has announced plans to commence flight services to Jos, the Plateau State capital, starting April 2, 2025.

    With the new route, passengers will have the option of direct flights into Jos, reducing the risks associated with road travel. 

    According to the airline, operations will begin with three flights per week, with the possibility of increasing to daily services as demand grows.

    This will not be ValueJet’s first venture into the Jos route. 

    The Nation reports that the airline initially launched its services to the Plateau State capital on October 10, 2022, and resumed flights in February 2023 after a brief pause.

    To ensure the sustainability of the Jos route, the Plateau State Government had earlier entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ValueJet. 

    The agreement aimed to guarantee continuous air services to the state, providing residents and travelers with a safer and faster alternative to road transport.

    The MoU was signed at ValueJet’s headquarters in Lagos, with the airline’s Managing Director, Omololu Majekodunmi, representing ValueJet, and Plateau State’s Commissioner of Transportation, Jatau Davou Gyang, signing on behalf of Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

    Speaking on the agreement, Gyang described the partnership as crucial for Plateau State’s economic development and in line with Governor Mutfwang’s policy to boost trade, tourism, and investment in the state.

    Majekodunmi emphasized that the air pact was essential to strengthening air transport between Lagos, Abuja, and Jos, particularly in light of the security concerns on the highways. 

    As the new flight services kick off, the airline aims to facilitate safer, faster, and more reliable travel for passengers in the region.

    His words, “The governor, since he was sworn in, he had driven to Abuja from Jos more than 25 times. This applies to all the commissioners. It is either you take a 35 minutes flight or you take a five-hour trip by road with hoodlums and insecurity on the roads.

    ValueJet Airlines to file N1 billion suit against media outlet over false report

    Solicitors for ValueJet Airlines, Idowu Sofola, and Co, have announced plans to file a N1 billion lawsuit against BusinessDay for what they described as a ‘malicious’ report claiming the carrier was blacklisted by international aircraft lessors for various contract breaches.

    According to the law firm, the report, published on July 17th and titled “13 Nigerian airlines blacklisted for contract breaches,” was false and baseless, and has significantly impacted their client’s business. 

    The newspaper had reported that at least 13 Nigerian airlines were blacklisted by international aircraft lessors for various contract breaches.

    The newspaper listed Aero, Air Peace, Azman, Dana, Green Africa, Ibom Air, Max Air, NG Eagle, Overland, Rano Oil, United Nigeria Airline and ValueJet.

    According to the Head of Idowu Sofola Chambers, A.T. Oloyede, “the article portrays our client as being unable to meet its financial and contractual obligations and unreliable to do business with by local and international corporations.

    He equally stated that the false publication has caused severe loss on the part of its client with the carrier’s board of directors overwhelmed with several phone calls by customers who are already panicking and threatening to withdraw their patronage and investments with their clients due to the false publication.

    The firm demanded the removal of the false publication and any other false news against ValueJet Airlines on any of its news platforms with immediate effect; a three-day consecutive news publication by BusinessDay and its subsidiary and tendering an intense apology to that effect; a retraction of the said false publication in three other widely read newspapers in Nigeria.

    The law firm is claiming damage in the sum of N1 billion for libel committed by the newspaper.
