Vee opens up on marital pressure ahead 30th birthday

Actress and singer, Vee Iye has spoken out about the marital pressures of approaching 30.

In a TikTok video, she shared a conversation with a married friend who asked about her marital status, stressing on the societal expectations women face.

Vee expressed frustration, noting her friend didn’t ask about her work or wellbeing, only about having a man in her life.

According to her: “Nobody ever mentally prepared me for the amount of conversations I would have as a woman turning 30 this year. One of my friends called me last week. I hadn’t spoken to her in months, maybe even a year. She’s married and relocated to another country with her family.”

Vee explained that after exchanging greetings, her friend said she had been praying and felt prompted to ask her a question. “The next thing she asked was, ‘When are you getting married?’ I am tired. She didn’t even ask me about work—the thing that is putting a roof over my head, the reason I can eat every single day. She cared about whether there is a man in my life.”

She referenced Nigeria’s economic challenges, saying questions about marriage feel out of touch.

“Let’s be honest with ourselves, the current climate right now is not looking great. I’m trying to focus on work and what’s next for me. That’s what’s running through my mind right now. Husband? Marriage? Children? I think not.”

She added, “It’s not like I don’t want these things in the future. I do. But I am not in control of the timeline.”

Vee: My life’s mission is to avoid getting pregnant by wrong man

Reality TV star and actress Vee has disclosed that her top priority in life is to avoid getting pregnant by the wrong man.

In a video message, she admitted that dating, especially in Lagos, comes with many challenges and stressed that she is determined to protect herself from unnecessary emotional pain.

Describing herself as stubborn and strong-willed, Vee explained that she focuses on self-preservation and making careful decisions in her relationships.

“It is my mission in life to avoid the wrong man getting me pregnant. And it’s not to say I’m better than the women who have been in that position,” she said.

“It’s simply because I know myself, I know what I’m like, and I try to avoid certain situations that would put me in a state of psychosis. I’m passionate about not getting f*cked over, and maybe that is what stops me from finding unapologetic love.

“I’m stubborn. I’m hard-headed. But I’m not stupid. I need to make sure that when it comes to choosing a life partner, I try my best to get it right. You can’t know someone 100 per cent, but you can try your best. People’s experience is the best teacher, not in my world. Especially when there’s the internet, where people are sharing their experiences. I don’t need to experience something to know that it’s not going to work for me”.

Sharing friends’ secrets with partners is betrayal – BBNaija’s Vee

Reality TV star and actress Vee has said that revealing a friend’s secret with a partner is a betrayal of trust and makes someone a “bad friend.”

In her view, certain information is shared confidentially and shouldn’t be disclosed further, even to loved ones.

“I tell my partner everything.” The most irritating type of friends to confide in”, she said.

This perspective contrasts with another viewpoint that emphasises transparency in romantic relationships.

Some people, like an X user who disagreed with Vee, think that keeping secrets from a partner can harm the relationship and that openness is essential for building trust.

Vee also confessed that accepting her own unique features wasn’t easy but has brought her peace and self-awareness.

“A lot of people hate the way they look, and they want to project that feeling onto you. Please don’t let them. I saw a post that Vicky James made on her Instagram. I need you to understand that there is nothing wrong with the way you look”, she said.

“We are in an era where people want to change everything about themselves just because they don’t like it. And I genuinely feel like that is not normal. You are free to change your appearance, but I feel like we need to start being honest about that kind of lifestyle. You can’t say you are confident and then change everything about yourself. The reality of those things is that age will always defeat you. It’s his common knowledge.

“Now, one thing I’ve always said about myself is that I have no interest in changing the way I look. I am a straight-bodied girl. I don’t have hips. I don’t have curves. I don’t have a big bum. My top half is bigger than my bottom half. And it’s something I have Learned to accept over time. Was it difficult? Yes. But I always say your self awareness is something that nobody can take away from you.

“I feel like I’m perfect the way I am. And I hope and pray there is someone that’s watching this and they believe they’re perfect the way they are, too…You’re perfect the way you are. Go outside without makeup. Take that filter off. At the end of the day when you step outside, we all gonna see how you look in real life. Sorry. So if you like, put the face app down. Put the face app down. Thank you,” she said.
