DJ CUPPY CONFIRMS SPLIT WITH EX, VICTOR ANICHEBE

AFTER months of fueling romance tales, celebrated Nigerian DJ, Florence Otedola, aka DJ Cuppy, has confirmed that she has split with her boyfriend, Victor Anichebe, Nigeria’s professional footballer and a striker for Beijing Enterprises.

Cuppy, who is also a music producer and the daughter of Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola, made this known in a recent interview.

She cited distance, time difference and tight schedule as the reasons for the breakup, maintaining that they still keep close ties as friends.

Cuppy recently moved back to Nigeria while Anichebe resides in faraway China where he is currently plying his trade.

“People saying ‘this DJ is so and so’s daughter’ it doesn’t bother me anymore as I love what I do. I only worry I am not going to make the impact I want to make,” she said as her gigs have included DJing at the inauguration of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari.

She adds that; “I am scared of always being his (Otedola’s) daughter and not getting past that. For me, that means not being successful enough. I am still masked by my dad’s success. If I didn’t try and make it outside Nigeria I would be unhappy.”

Cuppy is keen to be famous in her own right as a DJ and has been securing gigs around the world at venues including Privé, Jalouse, District and Funky Buddha.

While Cuppy admits her father’s fortune has opened doors and helped her network, she said she has to prove her talent behind the decks to secure more work.

Cuppy, who recently graduated from King’s College, University of London, with a degree in Business and French, said she wants to become renowned around the world as a DJ and make it into Forbes 30 under 30 Rich List.

Anichebe ‘undecided’ on Super Eagles’ return

Former Super Eagles striker, Victor Anichebe, has expressed his indecision over a possible return to the senior national team.

Anichebe, who announced his retirement from international football in 2012, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Wednesday that he was happy with the crop of young talented players in the team.

The premiership great, who sponsored a grassroots football competition in Anambra, said although there had been pressure on him to return to the Super Eagles, he considered himself too old for the team at 29 years of age.

“I had a few calls from Nigeria asking the possibility of me coming back to the team, but I just think now that we are at that stage where we have a lot of great young talent and coming through.

“We have Kelechi, we have even Odion, we have even Iwobi, and we have a bunch of really good young people playing in the team.

“I just think we are on a great journey now, I look at the Nigerian national team, so many faces I don’t even know but they are doing so well.

“So it just shows that we are nurturing more and more talents, therefore I consider myself an old man now, am 29.

“I don’t know whether I will be coming back.”

On the forthcoming world cup qualifier against South Africa, Anichebe urged the team to go all out and do the country proud.

“I just hope that they are victorious, first of all I hope that everyone stays injury-free.

“Obviously I hope that they win but football is crazy and sometimes you might not win, sometimes they might get a draw.

“And I know how expectant Nigerians are, they expect a lot from the team but I just hope they can go out and do the country proud,”  he said.

    Anichebe set for Sunderland return

Nigeria international Victor Anichebe could be back in the Sunderland squad ahead of schedule and help in their relegation fight according to his latest social media post.

The 28-year-old sustained a knee ligament damage in the Black Cats’ 2-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion in January.

Anichebe who has been initially ruled out for 10 weeks, is in contention for a return to David Moyes’ team after just seven weeks on the sideline.

The Nigerian has netted three times in 11 league games this season and indicated that he could be back in action sooner than expected for the Black Cats who have only secured a win in eight league outings.

“So I’m 7 weeks down and I’ve had a really productive week working with Bill Knowles @yscsports,” Anichebe wrote on Instagram.

“Here I’m using the @tocafootball machine which is a pretty cool piece of equipment. It’s the first time really touching the ball as I’m sure you can see from a couple of my touches but this is the 4th set (to my friends that will comment something stupid. I could probably name the culprits prior….don’t bother I already know…ok) Anyway…

“I’m getting the confidence back slowly but surely…thanks for the support and messages always.”

    Anichebe hails Iheanacho, Ighalo’s performance

West Bromwich Albion striker, Victor Anichebe, has hailed Manchester City starlet, Kelechi Iheanacho, after the teenager opened his account for the English Premier League side on Saturday.

The former Everton striker also had kind words for Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, whose 59th minute strike against Swansea City secured three points for Watford also on Saturday.

Compared to Iheanacho who scored his first goal in the EPL aged 18 years, 11 months and nine days, Anichebe remains the youngest Nigerian player to score in the top flight, scoring after 84 minutes in Everton’s 2 – 2 draw with his current club at the age of 18 years and 14 days in May 2006.

  • Anichebe scores in Baggies rout

    Anichebe scores in Baggies rout

Nigerian International Victor Anichebe was among  the goal scorers as his premier league club West Bromwich Albion ran riot at the Hawthorns against Gateshead in the FA Cup third round as they beat the Conference Premier side 7-0.

Gateshead plays in the fifth tier of English football and Albion fans won’t celebrate too hard but it was a fine winning debut for new manager Tony Pulis who was appointed after Alan Irvine was fired last Saturday.

England Under-21 International, Saido Berahino was the match-of-the-match after he registered four goals to confirm his quality as a special talent – the reason why top European sides are after his services.

However, the game was a one sided affair as the headlines suggest as Gateshead John Oster, Alex Rodman and Matty Pattison had opportunities to score for the away side in the first half but on each occasion wasted the chance to do so.

Victor Anchebe showed good strength on the stroke of halftime to score as he held off a challenge from a defender before gliding the ball past Adam Bartlett in goal for Gateshead to make it 2-0.

In the second half, Westbrom put the game beyond the visitors as they added five more strikes to end the game 7-0.

  • Ideye awaits work permit

    Ideye awaits work permit

West Bromwich Albion record signing, Brown Ideye, is still waiting for work permit to play in the English Premier League.

Ideye, who cost “The Baggies” 10 million pounds, was not picked for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, africanFootball.com reports.

But the former Dynamo Kiev striker is expected to get a work permit from the British Home Office as he is an established member of Super Eagles, winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations as well as featuring at last year’s FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.

The rule says an applicant for the work permit must have played at least 75 per cent of his country’s games in the last two years to qualify for a work permit in England.

Meanwhile, Ideye has been handed the number 9 shirt by WBA, while compatriot Victor Anichebe will wear the number 10 shirt after he donned the number 16 jersey last season.
