    Police confirms fresh suicide attack in Maiduguri 

    The Police Command in Born State have confirmed another fresh suicide attacks at the outskirt of Maiduguri killing two suicide bombers and a teenage boy.

    Four others persons were seriously injured in the attack.

    Saturday’s attack is coming after series of suicide bomb attacks in the state particularly the one in  a mosque at Muna Garage IDP community which claimed the lives of  20 people with 29 others injured.

    Confirming the attack, Born State  Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Isuku, in a Press statement said, “In the wee hours of today 18/11/2017, two female suicide bombers detonated their IED vest in the outskirt of Alakaramti village in Jere LGA, killing themselves alone.

    “Then at about 0650hrs, two other teenage female suicide bombers infiltrated Alakaramti village. One of them hurriedly detonated her IED vest killing herself, her partner and an innocent boy.

    “While four others, including the mother of the innocent boy, sustained injuries. The corpses and the injured have been evacuated to University of Maiduguri teaching hospital”.

    DSP Isuku also informed that, “The police Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) team promptly rendered safe the unexploded Improvised Explosive Devices, IED vests and sanitized the area. Normalcy has since been restored to the area,” Isuku stated.

    The Police in, Maiduguri, Borno on Wednesday said 18 persons were killed in multiple suicide bomb attacks at Muna Gari community of Konduga Local Government Area.

    Mr Victor Isuku, the Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO ), confirmed the attack in a statement issued in Maiduguri.

    Isuku said that the incident occurred at about 18:13p.m. when four suicide bombers detonated Improvised Explosives Devices ( IEDs ) strapped to their bodies.

    He disclosed that first explosion hit a congregation at a prayer ground while other explosives were also detonated at different locations in the area.

    Isuku explained that 18 persons including the four bombers were killed while 29 other persons sustained various degrees of injuries in the attack.

    “Today 15/11/2017; at about 18:13 hours, four suicide bombers, two male and two female, infiltrated Muna Gari community in konduga Local Government Area, and detonated IED strapped to their bodies at different locations.

    “The first explosion occurred at a prayer ground, while the other explosions occurred thereafter, all within the community.

    “A total of eighteen persons including the four suicide bombers, died in the multiple explosions, while twenty-nine others sustained various degrees of injuries”.

    Isuku said that the victims were taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital ( UMTH ) and State Specialist Hospital for treatment.

    He added that police patrol and EOD teams were deployed to sanitize and render the area safe, noting that normalcy has been restored to the area.

    The Police in Borno on Sunday said two female suicide bombers were killed while trying to sneak into Maiduguri metropolis.

    Mr Victor Isuku, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview.

    Isuku said that the incident occurred on Sunday evening along Maiduguri-Gamboru highway.

    He said that one of the suicide bombers detonated an Improvised Explosive Device ( IEDs ) strapped to her body and killed herself, while the other bomber was gunned down by security operatives before she detonated the bomb concealed to her body.

    Isuku explained that the incident occurred at the outskirt of Maiduguri, adding that there were no casualties recorded in the incident.

    “Preliminary information available to me indicates that two female suicide bombers tried to sneak into Maiduguri, one of them detonated the IED on her body and killed herself while the other one was gunned down.

    “Police EOD teams have been deployed to the scene to sanitize the area,” he added.

    Two insurgents killed in failed attack on IDPs camp in Borno – Police

    The Police in Borno on Monday said two Boko Haram suicide bombers were killed in a failed attempt to attack displaced persons camps and University of Maiduguri.

    A statement signed by DSP Victor Isuku, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said the suicide bombers were killed by security operatives before they hit their targets.

    “On Sunday at about 2115hrs, a suspected female Boko Haram terrorist, took advantage of the darkness of night and attempted to gain access into Dalori 2 IDPs camp through the rear perimeter fence.

    “Fortunately, she was sighted by vigilant security personnel on duty and chased.

    “In an attempt to escape arrest, she hurriedly detonated the IED strapped to her body, killing herself alone.

    “The impact of the explosion destroyed a portion of the IDP camp fence.

    “In the early hours of today (Monday) at about 0400hrs, a male suicide bomber attempted to gain entry into the premises of University of Maiduguri.

    “On sighting the presence of security personnel deployed to the University on duty, he hurriedly detonated his IED, killing himself alone near the BOT building,” Isuku said in the statement.

    The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), had earlier confirmed that two suicide bombers attacked Dalori 1 and 2 IDPs camps in Maiduguri.

    In a statement issued to newsmen, the agency said four displaced persons were killed and 15 others wounded in the attack.

    It said that a male suicide bomber infiltrated into Dalori 1 camp and detonated the explosive strapped to his body and killed four persons.

    “Two persons died on the spot while two others died at the hospital,” it said, adding that 15 others sustained injuries in the attack.

    The statement added that a female suicide bomber was shot by security men when she attempted to cross the perimeter fence at Dalori 2 camp.

    “A female suicide bomber was spotted by security agents while trying to cross the fence.

    “They shot her and the explosive device strapped to her body detonated, and blew the woman into pieces,” the statement said.

    It said that another female suicide bomber was intercepted and killed by vigilance group at Gate 3, University of Maiduguri.

    A member if the Civilian Joint Task Force  (CJTF), Abdullahi Muhammad, said the woman detonated the explosive when she was stopped by their men on duty at about 7:45 AM.

    He said that the woman killed herself and one member of the vigilance group sustained injuries in the attack.

    The injured victims were referred to Special Hospital, Maiduguri for treatment.

    At least 17 persons were killed after five suspected female suicide bombers attacked Kofa Community near Dalori in Borno.

    “As we were preparing to rescue the victims of the first blast, we heard another explosion close by.

    “It was really terrifying; many people died and many others were injured

    “The third explosion occurred after a short while.

    “Eventually, we evacuated eight bodies in the night, to the hospital, while 25 others were injured,” recounted Malam Ibrahim Kolo, member of a vigilante group.

    Mr Victor Isuku, spokesman of Borno Police Command, confirmed the incident, saying 17 persons were killed during the attacks.

    “On Sunday , at about 2030hrs, five suspected female suicide bombers detonated explosives strapped to their bodies in Kofa community, which is about 8km from Maiduguri, and situated along Maiduguri to Konduga road.

    “The first suicide bomber detonated near a mosque, killing seven persons.

    “The second detonated in a house killing five persons, while two other suicide bombers detonated within the same vicinity, killing themselves only”.

    “A total of 17 persons, including the five suicide bombers died, while 11 persons sustained injuries and were rushed to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

    “Police anti explosive team were mobilized to the scene and normalcy has since been restored,” he said.

    However, spokesperson of the North East Zonal office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said in a statement in Maiduguri that 16 people were killed.

    “At about 8.45 pm, two female suicide bombers were intercepted when they tried to gain access into Dalori 2 IDP camp.

    “Two other female suicide bombers also detonated their explosives at the adjoining Dalori kofa village at about 8.10 pm, where they killed 16 people,” Ibrahim said.

    “A total of four suicide bombers were involved in the incident. Injured victims have been administered with first aid and transported to hospitals within Maiduguri for treatment,” said Ibrahim.

    The Borno State police command on Wednesday confirmed the killing of three suspected female suicide bombers in a failed attack near Maiduguri, the state capital.

    He said police officers from the Explosive Ordinance Department were promptly drafted to the scene of the incident to restore normalcy.

    Police had confirmed the killing of three suspected suicide bombers in a failed attack at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) female hostel on May 19.

    One suicide bomber was also killed in similar situation at UNIMAID Secondary School last Saturday.

  • Suicide bomber killed in failed Borno attack

    The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a suspected suicide bomber after a failed attack at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) on Saturday.

    The spokesman of the command, Mr. Victor Isuku, disclosed this in a statement in Maiduguri.

    He said, “Today at about 10:00hours, a lone male suicide bomber detonated explosive strapped to his body.

    “The bomber had taken cover in a ditch within the neighbourhood of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) Children Secondary School, at the eastern end of the campus.

    “The bomber sighted security personnel coming towards the direction of his hiding place and hurriedly detonated his explosive, killing him only.”

    He said police had already cordoned off the place and rendered it safe.

    “Police anti bomb team were promptly dispatched to the scene to sanitize and render the area safe. Normalcy has since been restored to the area,” the police spokesman added.

    Three suspected suicide-bombers died in a failed attack at the university female hostel on Thursday night.

    The Borno State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the killing of five persons in a suicide attack in Konduga local government area of the state.

    The Spokesman of the command, Mr. Victor Isuku, disclosed this in a statement in Maiduguri.

    He said, “Information received from Konduga has it that at about 2130 hours on Monday, three Female suicide bombers detonated explosives strapped on their bodies at Shuwa settlement of Mandarari Ward Konduga, killing themselves and two others.

    “While six persons sustained injuries, Normalcy has been restored in the area.”

    The Borno State Police Command on Friday confirmed that multiple blasts rock Maiduguri, the state capital, after suspected suicide bombers attacked some areas in the city.

    The command’s spokesman, Victor Isuku, confirmed the blasts.

    “Our men are still working at the scene,” Isuku said and promised to supply details later.

    At least seven people were reportedly killed in Sunday night’s suicide bomb attacks on the outskirt of Maiduguri, Borno State.

    A security source said three of the dead victims are the suicide bombers, all females, while an operative of the Civilian joint task force also died in the blasts.

    More than two loud bangs were heard at 10:30 p.m., sending residents to scamper for safety.

    Another security source said the multiple explosions occurred at  Kaleri village  on the outskirt of the state capital.

    Both scenes have been reportedly swept and rendered safe for public access by police.

    The state police public relations officer, Victor Isuku, who confirmed the incidents,  said two separate attacks were recorded on Sunday night and were both orchestrated by Boko Haram suicide bombers in their attempts to infiltrate Maiduguri.

    The PPRO said, “At about 2020hrs on Sunday,08/01/2017, three male suicide bombers shot sporadically and attempted to infiltrate Maiduguri via Garki Muna village close to a military checkpoint. The IED strapped to their bodies exploded killing all of them, and a civilian JTF. Two Ak47 rifles were recovered, while one was completely destroyed as a result of the explosion.

    “Then about 2230hrs same date, there were two suicide bomb attacks at Kaleri area of Gwange. Four persons including two female suicide bombers died in the explosion. Both scenes were swept and rendered safe for public access by personnel from EOD, FSARS and patrol teams of the command at the wee hours of today (Monday). Normalcy has since returned to these areas.”
