    Rohr invites Olympics stars, Osimhen for Tanzania clash

    Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr, has invited six players from the Dream Team VI campaigning in the ongoing Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for next month’s African Nations Cup (AFCON) qualifier against Tanzania.

    The Franco-German coach overlooked the Olympics team leading scorer, Oghenekaro Etebo, for the match slated for September 3 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

    Germany- based Victor Osimhen, who is expected to sign a professional contract with Wolfsburg in January, was handed a surprise call up by Rohr, africanFootball.com reports.

    Members of the U-23 team listed for the AFCON qualifier are – Emmanuel Daniel, William Troost-Ekong, Shehu Abdullahi, Kingsley Madu, Mikel Obi and Imoh Ezekiel.

    Porto FC defender, Chidozie Awaziem, was also invited after missing May’s friendlies against Mali and Luxembourg in Europe.

    Siasia drops Osimhen from Olympics squad

    Nigeria U-20 striker, Victor Osimhen, has been left out of a 35-man Olympics provisional squad submitted by Samson Siasia.

    “Osimhen is not on the provisional list,” an official told africanFootball.com.

    Osimhen, who was the goal king at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile,  was a last-minute replacement for Granada CF striker, Isaac Success, at last year’s African U-23 championship in Senegal.

    He also featured in March friendly against Olympics hosts Brazil.

    Ex- Golden Eaglets striker, Victor Osimhen has been included in the Flying Eagles squad for Saturday’s African Youth Cup (AYC) qualifier in Burundi.

    Osimhen, who is currently with German club Wolfsburg, injured his shoulder during a test game against the Nigeria Olympic team last week, africanFootball.com reports.

    Osimhen, Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze are among the 15 players picked from the Golden Eaglets team that won last year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile for the party to Burundi.

    Team Secretary, Aliyu Lawal Ibrahim, said the Nigeria delegation will fly out of Abuja aboard an Ethiopian Airline plane on Wednesday.

    Nigeria and Burundi will clash in a second round, first leg AYC qualifying tie at the Prince Louis Stadium, Bujumbura, on Saturday.

    Osimhen to conclude talks on Wolfsburg deal

    Bundesliga side Wolfsburg is on the brink of signing the much – coveted Nigeria youth international, Victor Osimhen.

    Osimhen travelled to Germany on Wednesday night from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to conclude negotiations with the Volkswagen Arena outfit, allnigeriasoccr.com reports.

    The 16 – year – old was accompanied on the trip by the coach of Ultimate Strikers, Chinedu Ogbenna, Shira Yussuf, his partner, Ariyo Igbayilola, the player’s eldest brother, Andrew Osimhen and 36 Lion chief executive, Liameed Olawale Gafar.

    Wolfsburg invited Osimhen and his representatives to Lower Saxony to see the club’s facilities before signing a preliminary contract that will be activated when he clocks 18 next year.

    Golden Eaglets’ star, Victor Osimhen, has jetted out to England, where he is expected to seal a deal with a top English Premier League side,  officials said.

    The youngster flew out to England from Dakar, Senegal, after he helped Nigeria win the U-23 African Nations Cup, africanFootball.com reports.

    Osimhen, who netted a record-breaking 10 goals as Nigeria won a fifth FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, has been linked with several top European clubs.

    Dream Team VI coach, Samson Siasia, has said what Victor Osimhen achieved at the recent FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile was not a fluke and the youngster deserves his place on his final squad for the U-23 championship.

    Osimhen scored a record-breaking 10 goals in Chile and was a late replacement for Granada of Spain striker, Isaac Success, africanFootball.com reports.

    “The young man (Victor) did not replace anybody or made this team on emotions, he earned his place as he showed maturity in training. Besides, don’t forget he scored 10 goals in Chile, and you don’t score such number of goals in such a competition in error

    “I brought him here to show the world that what he did in Chile was no fluke,” africanFootball.com quoted Siasia as saying at a pre-match press conference in Mbour, Senegal, on Saturday.

    A confident Siasia was bullish about his team’s chances in Senegal.

    “We were the last team to arrive Senegal and by extension we will be the last team to leave Senegal,” he said

    “For me my target is to play five matches here in Senegal, and with the team I have on ground here, that target is achievable,” the coach added.

    CAF tourney: Osimhen gets Dream Team’s no 9 shirt

    The FIFA U-17 World Cup hotshot, Victor Osimhen, will wear the Number 9 shirt for the Dream Team at the CAF U-23 championship starting in Senegal, Saturday.

    Osimhen, who is replacing Isaac Success in the Olympic Team, also wore the No 9 shirt for the Golden Eaglets at the U-17 World Cup in Chile, africanFootball.com reports.

    Skipper Azubuike Okechukwu, who is based in Turkey, will maintain his number 14, jersey,  while Taiwo Awoniyi keeps the No 18 shirt, which he worn for the Flying Eagles at the African Youth Championship in Senegal in March.

    Four members of the World Cup winning Golden Eaglets squad – Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Nwakali, John Lazarus and Udochukwu Anumudu have been called up by Samson Siasia to join the Nigeria U-23 team ahead of preparations for the 2015 African U-23 championship billed for Senegal.

    The quartet played key roles in the Golden Eaglet’s victory at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, Goal reports.

    Having secured the consent of the Nigeria Football Federation, Siasia said their invitation is a reward for hard work and a proof that they can progress to the senior cadre.

    “I have been monitoring the progress of these boys while the team was being built by my brother, Emmanuel Amuneke,” Siasia told Goal.

    “Don’t forget we were in the same hotel and used the same pitch to train and I have been impressed with what I saw them do in Chile, so I think what I just did was rewarding them for a job well done.

    “Their invitation is only to tell other players that they too can progress to the senior cadre if they are level headed and keep working on their game.

    “For me age is not a factor, if they can give me what I want, then they will be part of my team to Senegal. But they must justify their invitation for no player in my team has automatic shirt,” he concluded.

    The players will join the team in Gambia after staying with their families for a week.

    The Nigerian Golden Eaglets have emerged winner of the FIFA U17 World Championship in Chile. The Eaglets became winner for the fifth time after defeating Mali in an all-African final by 2 goals to nil. It would be recalled that until their defeat at the final against the Eaglets, the Malian team had won every match from the group stage. Meanwhile, Nigeria's Victor Osimhen put the Nigerian side ahead with a goal, few minutes into the second half before Bamgbose made it 2 goals for the Eaglets at the 62nd minute.

    Golden Eaglets striker, Victor Osimhen, is attracting huge interest from English clubs on the back of his impressive performance at the ongoing FIFA U- 17 World Cup in Chile.

    According to allnigeriasoccer.com, one of the top four clubs in the English Premier League is putting together a bid for the youngster.

    Osimhen will equal Frenchman Sinama Pongolle’s record of nine goals at the World Cup if he finds the net against Mexico on Thursday.
