PDP will be vigilant as it reconciles, says Wike

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP)  will be vigilant as it reconciles members.

He spoke at an inter-denominational Thanksgiving Service to thank God for the Supreme Court’s resolution of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis.

The governor added that the Supreme Court judgment saved Nigeria.

Wike said: “While we are reconciling, we must be vigilant. Nobody will take me unawares. Satan will never sleep. Satan will always find ways to cause havoc.  Sheriff  is an agent of the APC.  Woe  betide any person who is a mole of the deadly party.”

He expressed gratitude  to God for giving PDP leaders the wisdom to identify that with the emergence  of Sheriff  the Party was headed for doom and  had to retrace its steps.

The governor  said Nigerians received the judgment with joy because the future of Nigeria  rests with  the PDP.

He said the ruling  All Progressives Congress (APC)  after winning elections have resorted to excuses and blame game instead of fulfilling  the promises they made  to Nigerians.

“Two years after the mandate what is the situation? Excuses and blames without delivery. Look at how individuals  took it upon themselves to destroy the party that gave them life.

“PDP is the only party that is a household  name in Nigeria.  There is no unit in the country without  a member of the PDP “.

Budget scam: Buhari must be vigilant, says Obasanjo

‘Let’s get men of integrity as lawmakers’

    Dogara’s camp, Jibrin trade accusations

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday spoke on the budget padding crisis rocking the House of Representatives, saying the accusations vindicated his position on the lawmakers’ conduct. He advised President Muhammadu Buhari to be vigilant.

The former President spoke to reporters at the Presidential Villa in Abuja during a visit to President Buhari.

He said: “Well, if you said that I have said it in the past and if there are people who didn’t believe what I said ýin the past then, you can now see that what has come out confirms what I said in the past. Then what I said in the past is what I will say now.”

On whether he would back an investigation into the allegations, Obasanjo said: “It is not a question of investigation; we should get men and women of integrity in the place (National Assembly) and the President should be very vigilant. Whatever should not pass should not pass.”

Obasanjo once claimed that the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly were filled with rogues. He was lashed for using a foul language and also encouraging corruption.

In January, he challenged Senate President Bukola Saraki and House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara to open the financial records of the National Assembly for public scrutiny.

As President, he also asked the lawmakers to tell Nigerians what they were earning.

Since his sack last week as Chairman of the Appropriation Committee of the House of Representatives for allegedly being implicated in budget padding, Hon. Abdumimin Jibrin has been hurling big allegations at the leadership of the House, claiming that Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Deputy Speaker Yusuff Lasun, Whip Ado Doguwa and House Minority Leader Leo Ogor supervised the insertion of N40billion into the budget at a secret location.

On his mission at the Villa, Obasanjo said: “Not too long ago, I was in Liberia and Gambia and I have messages these two countries will want me to deliver to the President.

“Also, only yesterday (Sunday) I came back from Seychelles Island where I attended this year’s Annual General meeting of Africa Export Development Bank. And there are aspects of the proceedings that I think I should update the President.”

On whether he enjoys travelling, Obasanjo said: “Travelling is a good education, what you will learn about a country by visiting that country for two or three days you won’t learn by reading through books.”

Asked further if he was considering slowing down, Obasanjo said: “May God never let you  slow down.”

  • FCT APC urges residents to be vigilant

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on residents to be vigilant and support the government in its fight against insurgency.

This call was made by the State Secretary of the party, Hon. Abdulahi Candido who condemned the bomb attack at Nyanya and Kuje area of the FCT in which over 15 people died and more than 40 injured.

Candido said there is need to forestall such attacks.

Candido who is also an aspirant for the chairmanship of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) said every resident should be vigilant and look out for any suspicious movements in their environments and report to the appropriate security agencies.

“The attacks at Nyanya and Kuje were unexpected, especially now that we were about celebrating  peace in the FCT. This is not good for our country and I will advise those behind this dastardly act to repent and embrace peace in this country. There is the need for all of us to live in peace and unity and move this country to greater height together.

“Those perpetrating this evil acts should know that killing of fellow human beings will never do any good to anyone. It is high time they embraced peace and accept that Nigerians want to live in peace as a united nation. President Muhammadu Buhari has the sincere desire to build this country and carry everyone along, so everyone should support him to do it.

“I want to advice every group or individual to condemn such dastardly acts whereby innocent lives are destroyed because of selfish interest. We all should be vigilant and know that security of lives and property should not be left for the government alone, we should try to do our best by ensuring that we always look out for suspicious movements and make reports where necessary.

“My prayer is that we should not witness such dastardly acts again in the FCT and entire Nigeria, that is why as Nigerians, we should always contribute our quota in assisting the government in the aspect of security. So, that the issue of insecurity will be a thing of the past,” he said.

Oke urges electorate to be vigilant

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Chief Olusola Oke, at the weekend promised to give a new lease of life to the people of the riverine communities in Ilaje and Ese -Odo, if given the mandate to rule the state.

Oke, who was given a rousing welcome in Ilaje Local Government, said he would use the fund meant for the State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC) to develop the area.

He said the Olokola Free Trade Zone and Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas (OKLNG), meant to provide jobs for the people of the state would come on stream if he is given the opportunity to rule.

According to him, the building of the Igbokoda/Ayetoro Road would be completed, while the construction of the road that linked the community to the site of the free trade zone would also be completed during his tenure.

Oke warned the people against selling their voter’s cards to politicians bent on manipulating the votes to get undue advantage during the poll.

He said although a lot of money would be given to them to buy their conscience during the election, it would not be in their interest to sell their votes and suffer in the next four years.

The PDP governorship standard bearer said his experience as a public office holder would be used to govern the state.

He said he would win the election because the people of the state knew him and his economic blueprint would earn him victory.

He said: “By the grace of God and the support of the people, I am the next governor of Ondo State. The indigenes and residents know me and my running mate, Saka Lawal.

“We have a unique economic agenda designed to provide solution to the economic problems confronting the state, caused by improper management of the resources. We must salvage this state together because of the coming generation.

“We are confident that our economic agenda will earn us the mandate of our people.”

Oke, the former National Legal Adviser of the PDP, said the youth must support the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the votes of the people count.

He said politicians must support any effort that would guarantee free and fair election, adding that this becomes imperative because of the moves of a particular party to rig the election.
