Movie review: Fast and furious 8
Shot in exotic locations like Cuba, Moscow and New York, the eighth instalment of the Fast and Furious renamed the Fate of the Furious is definitely an exciting blockbuster to be viewed more than just once. The movie which begins with a drag race in Cuba, where Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) emerges winner in other to save his mechanic cousin is more than enough thriller in the opening scene to sustain interest for regular on-screen action movie lover. The movie, which has grossed over a billion dollars in other territories for a worldwide total of $1.231 billion, against a production budget of $250 million ($350 million, including marketing costs) is Universal Pictures’ most ambitious worldwide distribution release in the studio’s history.Packed with action in every scene, the Fate of the Furious is action-gripping as it is expected to make any audience jolt in their seats with new stunts, replacing the main action of cars jumping out of planes in Fast Seven.Based on two major plots of both family and betrayal, the movie gets a much bigger twist when Dominic Toretto is recruited by Charlize Theron (Cipher) to turn his back on his most loved asset, his family and save his unknown son conceived out of unknown circumstances. This is when the movie moves from the usual car heists to spy capers, fist fights, heavy rapid gunfire cum explosion of submarines. The duo team up of rival enemies to becoming friends (Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson) orchestrated perfectly by Mr Nobody and his little protégé wasn’t more of a shocker than it would already be with Vin Diesel’s new team-up with movie villain and widely respected hacker, Charlize Theron.Even though Game of Thrones is expected to premiere mid-July, the captivating appearance of Nathalie Emmanuel returning as computer whiz Ramsey, and her “Game of Thrones” co-star, Kristofer Hivju (Rhodes) joining the cast as Cipher’s enforcer, served as a welcome surprise. The Movie which is without Paul Walker or a replacement of his character by his brother came with its own share of obvious disappointments too.The Fast 8 is filled with only fast paced action and watery dialogue without any worthy conversation attached to the hype. Not to mention the linear plot attached to the movie. It isn’t episodic; it is just plain and strategic from one action to the next: Cipher recruits Dom, Dom turns on his family and family takes him back. Not much intriguing action for an average movie lover. Most principal characters’ roles only revolve majorly in creating action buildups rather than actually passing a perfectly orchestrated thematic message. Fast 8 refuses to live up to its billion dollar revenue Return on Investment by creating little or no suspense as we already know what is going to happen in the end.Fast and Furious 8 is no different from a casual family betrayal plot and reunion come back; the only difference, in this case, was lacing the action with the advancement of technology (God’s eye) and nuclear nukes, one technique that has now become an overused cliché in movies emanating from the United States.Present day American movies aren’t without the villain attempting to steal nukes these days. And that is exactly where the Fate of the Furious fell short of its billion dollar gross. Hence, making each action very predictable.Like every tragicomedy would end; the Fate of the Furious which initially hung in the balance closes with a reunion after the death of Elena Neves, who looked even more beautiful as she was gunned down to death by Cipher’s right hand man, Rhodes. -

Vin Diesel names daughter after Paul Walker
It was an emotional moment for the cast and crew of Fast and Furious serial, as lead character, Vin Diesel named his newly born daughter after Paul Walker, another hero of the film who died on November 30, 2013.
It was Diesel’s third child, as he welcomed his new daughter with his girlfriend and Mexican model, Paloma Jimenez, earlier this month. The actor, on Monday, revealed on The Today Show, the special name he gave his baby girl.
“While I was in the hospital, the name that I will give you, is, I named her Pauline,” Diesel, 47, told Natalie Morales. Diesel and Jimenez are already proud parents to daughter Hania, 6, and son Vincent, 4.
“There’s no other person that I was thinking about as I was cutting this umbilical cord. I just thought I knew he was there. And it felt like, you know, a way to keep his memory a part of my family and a part of my world.”
Diesel’s news comes just weeks before the highly anticipated release of Furious 7, Walker’s last film. Walker’s brothers, Caleb and Cody, filmed the remaining scenes of Furious 7 following the tragedy.

Furious 7’s Abu Dhabi premiere cancelled for Vin Diesel
Furious 7 star, Vin Diesel’s daddy duties have put the brakes on a planned Abu Dhabi premiere for the next instalment in the popular street-racing action franchise.
Diesel and his partner, Paloma Jimenez, are expecting their third child, and so could not leave that to chance.
The notoriously private actor, 47, already has daughter Hania and son Vincent, but has never publicly announced that he and Jimenez are expecting another child.
The new baby likely will arrive around the same time that Diesel’s next film, Furious 7, hits theatres April 3. But the news has forced Universal to cancel a splashy world premiere March 10 at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, one of the film’s locations, because Diesel (also a producer on the pic) is opting not to go.
“He wants to be with his family at the birth; it’s a beautiful thing,” says a source. “What human being wouldn’t?”
A rep for Diesel couldn’t be reached, but a source adds that the premiere now will be April 1 in Los Angeles. According to a studio source, Universal is “happy to premiere the film in L.A., birthplace of the franchise, where a core fan base exists.”
Diesel is known to keep details of his personal life closely guarded. He never made a formal birth announcement for either of his children. On Aug. 26, 2013, he made the only public appearance with his partner and their kids, stepping out to receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Diesel is very much the face of the Fast & Furious franchise, which centre son his character, Dominic Toretto, and Paul Walker’s cop-turned-street racer Brian O’Conner. Walker’s tragic death in a car crash in November 2013 delayed production on Furious 7 and pushed the release date from July 2014 to April 2015. Furious 7 also stars Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibsonand Ludacris.
The Fast & Furious franchise has earned a stellar $2.38 billion worldwide since launching with the first film in 2001. The most recent instalment, Fast & Furious 6, earned $788.7 million worldwide.

November date for Fast & Furious 7 trailer
Fast and Furious, will have a glimpse on the trailer of the seventh installment next month, Distribution Company, Universal Pictures has announced, saying that Walker and trailer will shock the world.
After the sudden death of the series’ key actor, Paul Walker, in a car accident, last year, fans of the movie series have been more interested in watching the Fast and Furious 7, which was ongoing before the actor’s demise.
Expectedly, to see Walker again, for the last time, in a big screen is surely an effective marketing strategy for the movie because many have been waiting for this.
Walker’s co-star Vin Diesel, reportedly felt “emotional and bittersweet” after watching the movie’s trailer. “We all went above and beyond to make Pablo proud, but man, I wish he could see what we have created and just how far we have come,” he said in an interview.
Tyrese Gibson, a singer and an actor, is one of the first who confirmed the release of the movie’s trailer on social media. In a report, Gibson, like Diesel, has been emotional after watching the new trailer.
“Fast & Furious fans worldwide… The new Fast7 trailer is gonna drop Nov. 1. We did this in Paul’s honor,” Gibson posted in his face book account. He also said that the most anticipated movie will surely shock the world.
Reports say to be able to finish the movie, franchise producers asked Paul Walker’s brother, Caleb and Cody Walker, who share the same look as Paul, to stand for their brother in the unfinished scenes. Keen eyes will surely notice the difference between the Walkers even with the aid of computer technology.
Aside from Paul Walker, his brother who stood as his double, and Vin Diesel, Fast and Furious 7 will include the majority of the series’ cast. On the other hand, the movie has a new director – James Wan. It was Justin Lin who was credited for the Fast and Furious’ precious success but it was Wan who was responsible for the movie’s seventh installment.
Reports say there is high hope for Universal Pictures, the movie’s distributor, to be able to regain its big investments on the franchise, because according to sources, projecting the potential gross of films these days is rather difficult, especially for major sequels.
