    Vitafoam sustains 60-years ‘First Baby’ tradition

    Vitafoam Nigeria Plc has once again marked the new year with its long-standing “First Baby” tradition at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, celebrating six decades of supporting new beginnings.

    At exactly 2:45am, the first baby of 2026 was born, a baby girl weighing 2.1kg, signaling not only the arrival of a new life but the continuation of a 60-year corporate social responsibility initiative. Her parents, Clifford Afekhuai from Edo State and his wife, Fidelia from Delta State, received recognition and gifts from the foam manufacturing company.

    An emotional Afekhuai expressed his joy, describing himself as “the happiest person” and offering prayers for the hospital staff, wishing them wisdom, longevity, and continued success in caring for mothers and newborns.

    The second baby of the year followed at 4:25am. A healthy baby boy weighing 3.2kg was born to Oluwatoyin Salimon Oluwatunji and Oluwatoyin Kawthar from Kwara State. The father praised the hospital for the seamless delivery and warm treatment, describing the experience as excellent and stress-free.

    Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Vitafoam’s Commercial Director, Alhaji Dahiru Gambo, highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting that the company has consistently celebrated the first babies of the year for the past 60 years as part of its CSR efforts.

    The programme recognises the first three babies born at the hospital on January 1 each year, with donations that include mattresses, pillows, and bedding for both families and the hospital. Gambo explained that the partnership is designed to motivate healthcare providers and support improved service delivery, stressing that private sector collaboration is essential in strengthening public healthcare.

    The Medical Director and CEO of Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Dr. Taiwo Adeiyi, commended Vitafoam for its unwavering commitment, describing the initiative as a noble example of corporate giving. He encouraged other organisations, particularly manufacturers of maternal and child-care products, to emulate the gesture and support healthcare facilities.

    Also speaking, the Apex Nurse and Head of Nursing Services, Toyin Champion, praised Vitafoam as a dependable partner, while openly appealing for even greater support. She reaffirmed the hospital’s willingness to collaborate with more organisations dedicated to improving maternal and child healthcare.

    The annual celebration once again underscored Vitafoam’s enduring role in supporting families, healthcare workers, and communities at the very start of each new year.

    Nigeria’s leading foam manufacturing group, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc, finally shrugged off the leftovers of the foreign exchange (forex) headwinds with a 1,407 per cent growth in net profit in the immediate past year.

    Key extracts of the audited report and accounts of Vitafoam Nigeria for the year ended September 30, 2025 showed that profit before tax rose sharply by 1,751 per cent to N21.2 billion in 2025 as against N1.1 billion in comparable period of 2024. Profit after tax grew by 1,407 per cent from N952 million to N14.3 billion. With this, earnings per share leapt from 29 kobo to N10.67 .

    Group Managing Director, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc, said the remarkable performance demonstrated the group’s unwavering commitment to operational excellence, cost efficiency, and sustainable value creation for shareholders.

    He said: “We are delighted with our strong performance this year, particularly the significant growth in operating profit and the marked improvement in cost efficiency. These results reaffirm the success of our strategic initiatives centered on financial discipline, brand strength, and long-term value creation.

    “Our continued investments in operational efficiency, product innovation, and sustainable energy solutions position Vitafoam for sustained growth in the coming year”.

    Vitafoam had paid N1.31 billion as cash dividends for the 2024 business, representing a dividend per share of N1.05.

    Key extracts of the audited report and accounts for the year ended September 30, 2024 had shown that Vitafoam Nigeria’s turnover rose by 56 per cent from N52.9 billion in 2023 to N82.6 billion in 2024. But the impact of the top-line growth was moderated by foreign exchange loss.

    According to him, the campaign highlights how proper rest directly impacts success in all areas of life while reflecting the company’s unwavering commitment to delivering products that promote healthier lifestyles.

    Vitafoam Nigeria Plc doubled its pre-tax profit to N4.47 billion in the third quarter.

    Key extracts of the interim report and accounts of the company for the nine-month ended December 31, 2024 released at the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) showed group profit before tax rose by 100 per cent from N2.24 billion in December 2023 to N4.47 billion in December 2024. Net profit rose by 91 per cent to N2.980 billion from N1.562 billion, evidence of operational efficiency.

    With these, earnings per share (EPS) increased by 94 per cent from N1.14 in December 2023 to N2.21 in December 2024. The group’s total assets also rose to N58.173 billion from N51.348 billion, an increase of 13.29 per cent.

    Group Managing Director, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc, Mr. Taiwo Adeniyi, said the results demonstrated the group’s commitment to delivering value to stakeholders despite the economic headwinds.

    Vitafoam Nigeria Plc yesterday presented gifts to first babies of the year at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Lagos, as part of its corporate social responsibility.

     The company also reiterated its commitment towards mother and child healthcare.

     Its Commercial Director, Alhaji Dahiru Gambo, who led other senior members for the annual-baby-of-the–year ceremony, said Vitafoam remains committed to this gesture a way of giving back to society.

     “This is a form of CSR. It is our  way of giving back to the community and promoting our brand,” said Gambo.

     The Vitafoam boss, who said this CSR initiative has been running for five decades, reiterated the company’s commitment towards supporting healthcare through such gestures, advising parents of the babies to plan for the future and ensure they reach their full potential in life. Gambo, who presented some gift items including mattresses, baby cots, pillows and other items to the parents and hospitals, in company of the National Sales manager, Olujide Peters, Brand manager, Mrs. Kofoworola Giwa, and others, were received by staff and management of the maternity, led by Medical Director Dr. Olufemi Omololu, his deputy, Dr. Simon Bazauye, Apex Nurse, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Champion, Head of Admin and Human Resources, Mrs. Kudirat Saliu, and others.

      Mrs. Champion said “the first baby of the year, a male child, was delivered at 12.37 am, weighing 4.6kg.

    ‘‘He is an active baby doing well.” She hailed Vitafoam for its good gesture, calling it worthwhile.

     Echoing similar sentiments, Dr. Omololu, who expressed his gratitude to Vitafoam, said it was heartening to note: “Vitafoam usually comes to add colour to the first-baby-of-the-year-celebration.

     ‘‘We commend them for this CSR and will like to encourage the management and staff and everybody to have the spirit of giving because when we do that, things get better for us. We must help one another for continuous development.”

    Vitafoam’s shareholders approve N1.95b dividends

    Shareholders of Vitafoam Nigeria Plc yesterday approved the distribution of N1.95 billion as cash dividends for the 2023 business year.

    At the annual general meeting in Lagos, shareholders approved the payment of a dividend per share of N1.56 to all shareholders amidst commendations for the performance of the company during the period.

    Shareholders said the dividend payment and continuous growth in the operations of the company showed its resilience at a time several blue chip manufacturing companies were recording huge losses.

    Vitafoam Nigeria had recorded 14 per cent growth in turnover to N52.99 billion for the year ended September 30, 2023 as against N46.31 billion in 2022. The 2023 turnover was the highest in the last five years.

    President, Noble Shareholders’ Solidarity Association (NSSA), Mr. Mathew Akinlade said the overall performance of Vitafoam showed resilience.

    Vitafoam Nigeria Plc has welcomed the first three babies of 2024 with gifts at the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital.

      This initiative is part of Vitafoam’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), focusing on healthcare, education, and community development.

    Mrs. Praise Kelechi-Opara, the mother of the first baby, Adaeze, received a Storage Wooden Baby Cot, Baby Mattress, Nursing Pillow, Baby Comfy, and Breastfeeding Cover.

    Mrs. Sanni Suliat, mother of the second baby, received a Cottage Wooden Baby Cot, Baby Mattress, and Complete Baby Comfy.

    Mrs. Omotoyosi Sanni, mother of the third baby, received a Cottage Wooden Baby Cot and Baby Mattress.

     Vitafoam products were also donated to the hospital staff.

    Commenting on the gifts to the first three babies of the year 2024, Vitafoam’s Supply Chain Director, Mr. Ola Ogunfeyitimi, emphasised the strategic importance of healthcare, education, and community development to human capital development. He expressed delight that this year’s first three babies were born within 15 minutes.

    Omololu, who was represented by the Apex Nurse, Mrs Oluwatyoyin Champion, said it was  exciting witnessing yet another epoch- making event of the year at the hospital by Vitafoam.

    “We appreciate the Vitafoam team. It is their usual practice. Every year, they come and put smiles on the faces of our patients and I am sure this is something we always look forward to. They are doing wonderfully well and we pray that the Good Lord will continue to bless them and 2024 would be a very profitable year for them as a company,” Omololu said.

    Vitafoam Nigeria Plc in conjunction with the University of Lagos (Unilag) exposed undergraduate students of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering to the world of polyurethane evolutions with the company’s focus on giving back to the education sector. 

    The one-day seminar, held at the University campus, themed “ Polyurethane in Practice, the Science, and the Business”, witnessed the practical demonstration of  Polyurethane innovations.

    Addressing the participants, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Vitafoam Nigeria PLC,  Mr. Taiwo Adeniyi disclosed that the Company was an industry leader in Polyurethane applications in the West African sub-region.

    Adeniyi stated that the objective of the seminar, among others was to continually stimulate robust conversation about the innovations and development in Polyurethane applications towards industrial advancement.

    “I believe that fresh ideas from this conference will enrich the knowledge base of the students in Polyurethane formulation and applications towards sustainable industrial developments of our country and also serve as a catalyst for strengthening research activities.     Corroborating him, the Vice Chancellor, Unilag, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, who was represented  by the Deputy  Vice Chancellor, Academics and Research, Professor Bolanle Oboh stated that:  “For some of us that are not in the chemistry field, we have the knowledge and we know that chemistry is actually one of the basis of life. And therefore, we will be seeing today, that Polyurethane is involved in almost every household product that is being used today.”

    The Chief Executive Officer, Purcom Brazil, Gerson Silva, in his presentation, stated that Polyurethane was the next industry evolution and it would be challenging for everyone, most especially the students.  He urged the students to take advantage of the seminar to advance their career path.

    In her welcome address, the Chairman, Vitafoam Nigeria PLC, Professor  Rosemary Egonmwan said the one-day seminar aimed at demonstrating the company’s commitment to supporting education and other initiatives that expand the frontier of learning.

    Egonmwan noted that the seminar would provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge and insights into the practical application of Polyurethane in business.

    “Vitafoam Nigeria with its subsidiaries is the leading manufacturer of flexible and rigid fiber products in Nigeria and indeed West Africa. As a Professor, I am confident that this seminar will leave an enduring impact on each participant,” she said.

  • Vitafoam Nigeria grows Q1 profit by 123%

    Vitafoam Nigeria Plc started its new financial year on a stronger footing with considerable growth across key performance indices.

    Key extracts of the interim report and accounts of Vitafoam Nigeria for the three-month period ended December 31, 2018 showed that turnover rose by 26.3 per cent while profits before and after tax doubled by 98.48 per cent and 123.14 per cent respectively.

    Group turnover stood at N6.38 billion in December 2018 as against N5.05 billion recorded in comparable period of 2017. Profit before tax rose from N258.53 million to N513.12 million while profit after tax jumped from N162.17 million to N361.87 million. Earnings per share also increased from 13 kobo by December 2017 to 33 kobo in December 2018.

    Group Managing Director Vitafoam Nigeria Plc Mr Taiwo Adeniyi  said the company was poised to sustain its impressive growth in the years ahead.

    He said the first quarter results of the company showed that its growth trajectory, which recovered from a net loss of N127.69 million in 2017 to a net profit of N601.92 million in 2018, is sustainable.

    On the basis of the 2018 results, the board of Vitafoam Nigeria had recommended cash dividend of N260.51 million, representing a dividend per share of 25 kobo, in addition to bonus share of one new ordinary share of 50 kobo each for every five ordinary shares of 50 kobo each.

    Key extracts of the audited report and accounts for the year ended September 30, 2018 showed that Vitafoam Nigeria recorded impressive growth in sales and profitability. Group turnover rose from N17.69 billion in 2017 to N19.53 billion in 2018. Profit before tax jumped from N18.13 million in 2017 to N793.85 million in 2018. After taxes, the company reversed net loss of N127.69 million recorded in 2017 with a net profit of N601.92 million in 2018. Earnings per share thus improved from a loss of 15 kobo in 2017 to a gain of 57 kobo in 2018.

  • Vitafoam to support polyurethane SMEs

    Vitafoam Nigeria Plc has expressed its readiness to deploy its polyurethane business segment to create massive job opportunities for the youth.

    Vitafoam’s new job creation strategy is aimed at expanding the scope of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in line with the economic diversification programme and growth agenda of the Federal Government.

    The company organised a one-day Entrepreneurship Seminar for Undergraduates with the theme: Polyurethane application for small and medium enterprises at the University of Lagos.

    Polyurethane are materials, such as woods, fibers, plastics, clothing, footwear and household and industrial products, which can serve as raw material for the manufacturing of furniture parts, cooler, boxes, mattresses, garage doors, water heaters, fridges and others.

    Economic and Statistics Department, American Chemistry Council, stated that polyurethane industry operates in nearly 1000 locations in the United States, directly generating $28. 6 billion output and 48,800 jobs. The top end- use markets for polyurethane consumption are building and construction, transportation, furniture and bedding industry.

    Group Managing Director, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc, Mr Taiwo Adeniyi said economic transformation and diversification must be rooted in the development of strong SMEs.

    According to him, the core objective of the seminar was how to create sustainable jobs for the youths as a support for the Federal Government’s policy of youths empowerment.

    “Let people see why they do not need to line up and be seeking for employment. But, rather they can create jobs for themselves. They can be chief executives as soon as they finished their schooling and start their own businesses and help to develop this economy. Vitafoam has strong capacity to provide the required support structure for SMEs in the polyurethane industry,” Adeniyi said.

    He said there were a good number of expert, seasoned engineers and scientists in the company now that have been trained and prepared for the purpose of supporting the development of SMEs.

    “If someone starts a small scale polyurethane industry, we would be there to support in terms of knowledge base. We can guide you through so that the person can make a success from day one. In some cases, if one needs to buy some of those small equipment, we can make the contact and help to get them at affordable prices,” Adeniyi said.

    He listed some of the challenges facing SMEs in Nigeria as funding, lack of technical support, difficulty in access to raw materials and relatively high stock holding.

    In his presentation, the guest speaker, who runs the largest polyurethane company in Brazil and also a Non-Executive Director of Vitafoam, Mr. Gerson Silva spoke on “Discovery and Historical Progression of Polyurethane” and stated that a wide range of products and services are derivable from polyurethane, hence, the economic benefits of this technology can only continue to grow

    Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, Prof. T. Ogundipe, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics and Research, Prof. Oluwole Familoni commended Vitafoam Group for its continuous support for the institution especially, during the university’s yearly conference.

    He urged the students to take the training very seriously and exploit its benefits.

    Expressing gratitude to Vitafoam for the entrepreneurial training seminar for undergraduates, a final year student of the department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Olorunfemi Eniyadunmo, also commended Vitafoam for the initiative and urged other corporate organisations emulate Vitafoam.
