CVR: 66,951 voters registered in one week in Oyo

As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) begins the first phase of the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise, no fewer than 66,951 persons have registered with the commission in one week.

This is as the Commission said it has launched a multi-faceted sensitisation campaign to boost voter registration in the state, saying the campaign aims to widely publicise the commencement, timeline, and process of the CVR exercise across all 33 INEC Local Government Area Offices.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), INEC Oyo State, Adeniran Rahmon Tella, disclosed this on Tuesday during a media briefing to flag off the sensitisation activities for the CVR.

Describing the turnout from the Oyo residents as impressive, the Oyo REC said the response shows a clear indication that Nigerians, particularly those in Oyo state, remain eager to participate in the democratic process.

He stressed that the CVR exercise is not merely a ceremony but a clarion call to action, saying it is the starting point for a marathon of civic engagement designed to empower every eligible citizen of Oyo State.

He added that the mission is simple yet profound to ensure that no one is left behind in the democratic process, noting that the campaign will provide clear, simple, and accurate information on the requirements, steps for registration, transfer, and PVC collection.

The Commission, according to the Oyo REC, will adopt a multi-channel and grassroots-oriented approach to reach out to eligible voters, which will include engaging directly with community leaders, youth groups, women’s associations, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across all 33 INEC LGAs.

Dr Tella said, “The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) initiative is a fundamental pillar of any inclusive democracy. The Commission resumed online registration last Monday, the 18th August 2025, with close to 66,951 (4.85%) Nigerians completing online pre-registration within the first week of resumption in Oyo State.

“This impressive response shows a clear indication that Nigerians remain eager to participate in democratic process. The citizens of Oyo State are, of course, inclusive in this regard.

“Today’s official flag-off of a state-wide sensitization campaign has moved into its physical phase since Monday, the 25th August 2026, as citizens who just turned 18 years that pre-registered online as well as those that are yet to register before will be able to complete the process at INEC State Office or in any of the 33 INEC local government area offices of the State.

“It is important that new registrants’ biometrics (fingerprints and facial) will have to be captured in this regard. It is, however, important to also note that already registered voters need not visit either State Office or INEC LGA Offices if they have lost their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), if the PVC is defaced, or if they want to transfer their PVC from one LGA, Ward or State, as the case may be.

“In other words, the above could be done online through our website https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/Public/getStarted. The essence is to decongest our Registration Centres at the State and in all the 33 INEC LGA Offices. Online new registrants can also avail themselves of the above-mentioned website to get registered accordingly.

“If peradventure, citizens could not do the above-mentioned processes online, the Commission’s offices at both State and LGA Offices are widely open from 9 am to 3 pm daily, excluding weekends and National Public Holidays.

“Two of our INEC Voter Enrolment Device (IVED) Machines have therefore been placed either at the State Office or in all our 33 INEC LGA Offices for seamless registration of the citizens of the State. It is of note to mention that the CVR exercise will last for a year and will be suspended as from 30th August 2026.”
