    Wamakko, two Reps members win at Sokoto Tribunal

    The Election Petition Tribunal in Sokoto state has validated the election of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko representing Sokoto North Senatorial District and dismissed the petition filed by the opposition PDP and its candidate, Muhammad Manir Dan Iya for lacking in merit.

    The Tribunal also awarded N250,000 cost to the respondent.

    The petitioners had challenged the respondent at the tribunal on the grounds of non-qualification, vote buying, and non-compliance with the electoral act.

    Delivering judgment, the three-man tribunal panel led by Justice Josephine Echesi said the petitioners failed to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt with evidence citing already decided cases.

    The Judge also awarded N250,000 cost to the respondent.

    Meanwhile, the tribunal has upheld the elections of two representative members, Hon. Bala Hassan Abubakar (APC) and Abdussamad Dasuki (PDP) dismissing the petition filed against the duo for lacking in merit.

    Hon. Abdullahi Abubakar (PDP) and Hon. Bala Kokani of the (APC) were challenging the elections of the two representing Sokoto North /Sokoto South and Tambuwal / Kebbe Federal Constituencies of Sokoto state at the tribunal on the 2023 polls.

    In its ruling, the tribunal led by Justice Echesi dismissed the petition on grounds that it lacked merit and could not evidently prove its case.

    It also awarded N250,000 cost to the respondent against Hon. Kokani.

  • Wamakko, NDE disburse N 15m to 1000 women

    The Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and the National Directorate of Employment ( NDE), have disbursed N 15 million to 1,000 small scale businesswomen in the state.

    The gesture by Wamakko was extended to the beneficiaries barely a few hours to the commencement of Ramadan.

    Each of the beneficiaries is into the business of making bean cake (Kosai), palp (Kunu) and Moulded rice ( Tuwon shinkafa ), were given N 15,000.

    Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District, said no fewer than one million unemployed women and youths had been empowered by the All Progressives Congress  (APC)-led administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, under the platforms of a myriad of people-oriented programmes.

    He said: “This is in demonstration of the APC-led the federal government to positively impact the lives of Nigerians, especially the less privileged, women, youths and other vulnerable groups.

    “These laudable programmes introduced and logically implemented included Tradermoni and N-Power, amongst others, targeted at empowering small scale business people.”

    Also speaking, the APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, who described the gesture as historic, maintained that it cannot come at a better time than now.

    He appealed to the beneficiaries to use the money wisely so as not to defeat the objectives of the gesture.

  • Elections petitions tribunal: Wamakko cautions APC supporters

    AMIDST speculations, anxiety and opinion being peddled on the elections petitions tribunal sitting in Sokoto, Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum and Coordinator,  North West,  Presidential Campaign Council,  Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko,  has cautioned supporters of the All Progressives Congress  ( APC ), against indiscriminate writings and postings on the social media on the pending cases at the 2019 Presidential, gubernatorial,  national and state assemblies Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Sokoto .

    Senator Wamakko,  who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District spoke on Thursday , in Sokoto , while addressing a mammoth crowd of supporters of the party , shortly after his return to Sokoto , from an official trip in Abuja.

    Wamakko added that, the judiciary is not an institution that should be toyed with or be jokingly  treated.

    He averred:  “The members and supporters of our great party should urgently heed to this clarion call and henceforth , immediately desist from such unsubstantiated writings and postings, including false and unverified audio , as well as video recordings .

    “ Such unguarded acts are as nefarious as they are illegal, destructive , prejudicial and extremely contemptuous.

    “ All true and well meaning members and supporters of the APC should therefore in the alternative sustain fervent prayers , for divine intervention .

    “ In sha Allahu,  victory for us is near . God gives and takes leadership .We solely rely on the Almighty Allah,  and we are optimistic He will not fail us .”

    Senator Wamakko , who also chairs the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education,  called in the party faithful to continue to be patient,  in the event of the current circumstances .

  • Polls: Wamakko urges APC faithful to remain peaceful, calm

    Following the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as winner of the Sokoto state governorship elections, Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum and Coordinator, North West, Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has urged the faithful of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ), in the state to remain peaceful , resolute and calm .

    This is contained in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, to Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Bashir Rabe Mani and issued to newsmen in Sokoto, on Sunday.

    Senator Wamakko was reacting to the outcome of the 2019 Gubernatorial elections in the state , which were capped by supplementary elections conducted on March 23,2019.

    The lawmaker said,” the party’s leadership, membership and the entire electorate in the State would not despair , in anyway .

    “We have jointly struggled, fought and won. We are never losers. All and sundry have done their possible best , by coming out en masse and massively cast their invaluable votes for our candidates, at all levels .

    ” In this direction, we are really appreciating and cherishing the immense sustained support of the members of the party to beat, the APC, as well as the electorate, in general.

    “These laudable gestures of the electorate were kick-started with the Presidential and National Assembly polls, then during the first Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections and climaxed with the supplementary polls on March 23 .”

    Wamakko who is a Member of the World Muslim League and represents Sokoto North Senatorial District noted that, the candidates of the party had recorded myriad of landslide victories during the 2019 general polls sequel to the unflinching loyalty and unshakeable devotion by its supporters and the electorate.

    The Marafan Hausasun further promised that, the APC and its leaders , at all levels, would remain religiously committed to the welfare, security and general comfort of Nigerians .

    These, he noted, form part of the cardinal ideals and objectives of the party , vowing that, Nigerians would never regret bestowing their mandates to the APC .

    ” Our Leader , President Muhammadu Buhari was just given a second term by Nigerians and he will surely take the entire country to the NEXT LEVEL.

    ” The leaders of the party , at all levels , most especially the ninth Senate , would relentlessly strive to fully complement the efforts of the President to better the lives of Nigerians, in all ramifications.

    ” The leadership and membership of the party, as well as entire Nigerians should continue to be peaceful and united .

  • Wamakko loses brother

    The seat of the caliphate, Sokoto, was thrown into mourning yesterday, following the demise of the 15th Baraden Wamakko, Alhaji Salihu Barade.

    He died at around 2.00am yesterday.

    Barade, who is the younger brother to Senator Aliyu Wamakko, died at the age of 64.

    He was buried in his hometown, Wamakko, headquarters of Wamakko Local Government in Sokoto State, yesterday morning, according to Islamic rites.

    According to a statement by Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Wamakko, Bashir Rabe Mani, the funeral prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Dankel, Alhaji Muhammadu Dangande.

    The prayer was attended by Senator Wamakko, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, his deputy, Alhaji Mannir Dan-Iya.

    The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, was represented by the Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu.

    Also in attendance were the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto;  his running mate,  Alhaji Faruku Malami Yabo; Chairman, APC Gubernatorial Campaign Council  Alhaji Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi,  Secretary to the Sokoto State Government Prof. Bashir Garba, State APC Chairman Alhaji Isa Sadiq Achida,  as well as various traditional and religious leaders, among thousands of other sympathisers.

    The late Baraden Wamakko is survived by two wives, eight children and several grandchildren.

    He was appointed and installed as the 15th Baraden Wamakko and a Senior Counsellor of the Sultanate Council in 2009.

  • Wamakko: APC to sustain good governance

    Northern Senators Forum Chairman Aliyu Magatakarda has said governments led by the All Progressives Congress (APC ), at all levels, will sustain attributes of fairness , justice, accountability and transparency for good governance.

    “ These invaluable and cherishable attributes would continue to be the cornerstone of APC-led administrations,  including the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

    “ The party also upholds the sanctity and dignity of human lives, as citizens, especially the less-privileged are the most invaluable treasures of the party and its leaders, at all levels,” Wamakko, coordinator of  North West Presidential Campaign Council,  added.

    Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North, spoke at his Gawon Nama,  Sokoto, home, when he received APC supporters from Yabo Local Government, led by a chieftain, Professor Musa Garba Maitafsir, and House of Representatives member-elect of Yabo and Shagari Federal Constituency Alhaji Abubakar Umar Danbukari.

    The senator hailed the electorate for their renewed confidence in the President,  himself and all candidates of APC.

    He said: ”President Muhammadu Buhari and all of us elected under the platform of the party, as well as governors and state Assemblymen to be elected, In Sha Allahu, will not betray the confidence reposed in us.

    “The re-election of the President is a testimony to his commitment to further move the nation to the Next Level.

    “We, at the Ninth Senate, would, in Sha Allahu, support the President in his determination to improve security, bolster the economy, and curb corruption.”

    On the govenorship and state legislture polls (INEC), on Saturday, Wamakko appealed to the people to vote candidates of APC.

    The Sarkin Yamman Sokoto, who chairs the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, urged party faithful not to be complacent in mobilising the electorate.

    Wamakko added: “We should come out and vote out fakes, deceptors and ingrates.

    “By doing so, the state will be brought back to the path of growth and development, as what obtained between 2007 and 2015.

    “Regrettably, the people of the state have been wallowing in underdevelopment and paucity of dividends of democracy, from 2015 to date.

    “This obnoxious deficit of developmental projects and people-oriented welfare schemes can only be redressed with the election of APC governorship candidate Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto and his running mate, Alhaji Faruk Malami Yabo,  as well as House of Assemby candidates.

    “While intensifying mobilisation of the electorate,  we should avoid violence, thuggery and acts inimical to peace and unity of the state and Nigeria.”

  • Wamakko: four Sokoto commissioners to quit PDP for APC

    LEADER of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State and Chairman of Northern Senators’ Forum (NSF), Aliyu Wamakko, has said at least four serving commissioners in the current Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration in the state will soon join APC.

    Wamakko spoke on Monday at the inauguration of the party’s campaign office at the Unguwar Filin ‘Yan Shanu, Sarkin Adar Ward, in Sokoto North Local Government Area.

    The senator said the names of the potential defectors would soon be unveiled to the people.

    “The hearty development has soared the love, respect and sustained support for the party and its candidates by all strata of people in the state,” he said.

    Wamakko also said Sokoto State residents were endeared to APC, adding: “They have been trooping into its fold, more especially from the PDP, whose fortunes are fast dwindling with attendant dearth of popularity.”

    On the governorship debate organised by the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the senator said: “It showed that our governorship candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, is not a greenhorn nor is he a politically immature person, as being peddled by some cynics and doubting Thomases.

    “He is fit and capable to hold the office and he will efficiently deliver the needed good governance and democracy dividends to the people of the state.

     

  • Bafarawa lashes Wamakko, others for snubbing Sultan

    FORMER Governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa on Thursday berated his successor, Senator Aliyu Wamakko and the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for not honouring a peace meeting summoned by Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad.

    Bafarawa spoke at the state PDP rally for the reelection of Governor Amninu Waziri Tambuwal in Wamakko town.

    According to the former governor, the revered leader organised to meet with all candidates and chieftains of political parties with a view to advise them to ensure peaceful political rallies and conduct of elections but the APC contingents snubbed the meeting.

    “I recall the Sultan called for a peace meeting to ensure violent- free polls in the state. The reason was that we are all indigenes and should be up to the task of achieving peace.

    “But to our dismay, the absence of the APC gubernatorial candidate only portrayed that he is working on the instructions of his boss (Wamakko).”

    Bafarawa noted the state needed peace not violence, pointing out “Everything has time. My time and Wamakko’s had passed and we ought to know that by coming together to build the state.”

    He assured the people of Wamakko town that Tambuwal’s government was set to bring succour to all in the state” he will do better the way I did in my days as governor.”

    The former governor assured that youths would be considered in the scheme of things if Tambuwal was reelected, saying “the youths need to be supported and empowered to lead.”

    He commended Tambuwal for the relative peace enjoyed in the state, noting the ban on youths bearing arms during political rallies was commendable.

    “Tambuwal will prioritise peace, security, employment and infrastructural development of the state,” he assured.

    Governor Tambuwal, who thanked supporters for consistently standing by him and the party, promised to reposition the state and reward all by ensuring the spread of dividends of democracy and good governance.

    LEADER of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has reassured the people that the party will dwell on issue-based campaigns to give the state the hope and opportunity to make the party’s candidates and the party their preferred choice at the polls.

    “Is the only and sure way to raise the consciousness of the electorate above trivial and cheap political recognition,” he said.

    Wamakko, who is the Chairman of Northern Senators’ Forum (NSF), spoke at the inauguration of the campaign committees for the Sokoto North Senatorial District and councils in the zone ahead of the kick-off of APC’s campaigns.

    According to him, the state will become better and experience good governance under the party with windows of opportunities for all to thrive and benefit from a people-oriented and implementable blueprint for sustainable development.

    He said: “We have a vision to transform and reposition the state on the path of prosperity through rejuvenating its potential for the benefit of people of the state.”

    The senator stressed that taking the state and its people to the “Next Level” remained key to the vision of the party to further institute and sustain the “Change” mantra.

    “We will not digress from the real and practical issues, which have not been addressed by the current Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government. The dearth of infrastructure, unemployment and absence of responsive policy thrust, which are key to sustainable economic and social transformation, have been visible in the last four years of the sitting government.

    “We will justify reasons for our call on Sokoto people to jettison the PDP and go with our party. The APC is the way out of the shackles.

    “The insensitivity of the current PDP government in the state to making infrastructure a cardinal priority is alarming and a drawback against the expectations of our people.

    “Such deficit is fast affecting the strength of the hope and confidence of our people in the government. This, the APC is set to reverse with vigour, if it secures the mandate of the electorate in the state,” Wamakko said.

    The former governor, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, noted that the future of the state lies with youths and women of voting age.

    He said this class of the residents must objectively compare notes to extend their mandate to the party’s candidates at all levels for rapid transformation of the state.

    “Such deficit is fast affecting the strength of hope and confidence of our people in the government which APC is set to reverse with vigour if it secures the mandate of electorates in the state”, he assured.

    The immediate past governor of the state who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, also observed that the future of the state lies with the youth and women of voting age who must see reasons with APC by objectively comparing notes to extend their mandates to the party’s candidates across all levels for rapid transformation of the state.

    “As we flag our campaigns across the state, we call on all and sundry especially our supporters to be law abiding and peaceful. It is a journey to success for the state and Nigeria by God’s willing. We are also seeing the signs with the impacting spade of defections from the PDP to APC and the growing support for our party in the state,” he envisaged.
