    WAPTV was recently awarded the “Outstanding Indigenous TV Channel of the Decade” at the Marketing Edge Awards a few weeks back.

    The management of WAPTV joined other reputable media houses, corporate brands, advertising practitioners, and government MDAs as attendees and award recipients at Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja.

    The event, which was organised by Marketing Edge Magazine, selected wapTV to be honoured because not only is wapTV the very first TV Channel in Nigeria to have presenters speaking Pidgin English.

    Wale Adenuga’s WAPTV has launched its new mobile app after many months of planning.

    The unveiling of the mobile app is expected to give subscribers and viewers unlimited access to the channel’s contents that include Superstory, Akpan & Oduma, Papa Ajasco & Company Reloaded, Kookoorookoo, D’Beat Zone, and other wapTV original content.

    The user-friendly app, simply named “wapTV”, has features for streaming Live TV as well as watching Video-on-Demand.

    Speaking on the achievement, the Managing Director of wapTV, Wole Adenuga, said,“Since we launched wapTV as a satellite television network in 2012, we have always positioned ourselves to adapt and expand on different forms of New Media, as seen with our popular YouTube platform ‘waptvchannel’ which currently has over 650,000 active subscribers, while amassing over 200,000,000 views.     The awards ceremony, which was held at The Podium, Lekki, had several representatives of reputable corporate brands, advertising practitioners, government MDAs, and media houses as other award recipients.

    WapTV was awarded the honour for the channel’s consistency in airing the very best Nigerian movies (English, Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa), TV dramas, reality shows, comedy series & skits, music videos, events, educational content, celebrity interviews, cooking shows, sports, religious broadcasts, talk shows, entertainment news, documentaries, fitness shows, for 11 years without stop.

    This is cheering news for Wale Adenuga-owned WAPTV, as the TV station, which was established in 2012, has been rated the most-watched channel on STARTIMES, Nigeria’s foremost DTT cable platform.

    The ranking of this channel, noted for family entertainment, was done by MPS (Media Planning Services) Limited, in its January Media Diary. The platform is known to rank all TV channels across Nigeria, according to viewership and popularity.

    MPS is an independent organisation made up of professional media research consultants who provide reliable data, software and associated consultancy training for media planning, buying and control. It is the go-to source for all data, regarding Nigerian media audience, including newspaper houses, radio stations and both terrestrial and cable TV channels.

    Excited with the rating, Managing Director of WAPTV, Wole Adenuga, said, “We are always pleased whenever we hear good news about WAPTV.     WapTV, a 24-hour pidgin language TV channel, has become the first privately-owned Nigerian cable TV channel to have over 100,000 ‘Likes’ on the social network platform, Facebook.

    This also makes wapTV the fifth Nigerian TV channel overall (across Terrestrial and Cable Platforms) to cross the 100,000 ‘Likes’ mark via its Facebook page.

    Excited about the achievement, Wale Adenuga, Managing Director of wapTV, said: “We are excited at this milestone, as it is a clear testament that our viewers enjoy the channel’s contents, which we work very hard on. wapTV is less than two years old, but it has already received so much commendation from TV viewers and practitioners all over the world. We are grateful for this level of acceptance and we assure all our viewers that there is a lot more to come.”

    Adenuga expressed satisfaction at the fact that wapTV’s viewers regularly visit its Facebook page for updates on the “channel’s programme schedule, interactions with other viewers from all over the world, behind-the-scene pictures and videos, audition dates for chances to appear in wapTV programmes, opportunities to win fantastic prizes and lots more.”

    The TV station was established in 2012 by Wale Adenuga Productions Ltd., and is available to the Nigerian and African audience on Star Times, CONSAT and StarSat with ongoing plans to be available on even more cable TV platforms worldwide.

    After a season of tutorial kitchen experience with trendy local cook, Geena, host of wapTV cooking show and her celebrity guests, producers have announced readiness for another 13 weeks, with sponsorship coming from Flour Mills Nig. Plc., through the Golden Penny Pasta brand.

    Tagged ‘Pasta Parri’, the new season which premiered on June 28, featured guest appearances by several celebrities, while recipes and clips from the show is expected to elicit interactions from fans on www.foodiesandspice.blogspot.com and www.facebook.com/waptvs.

    The online forum is where fans of the programme around the world compare their creations, after following the recipes, and stand a chance of winning cartons of Golden Penny Pasta.

    “Lovers of tasty and healthy food are in for a joyous ride as Flour Mills Nig. Plc. has partnered with the show,” said Geena, who presents the programme in Pidgin English, adding fun to the art of cooking through her jokes, style and ever-smiling mien.

    KOOKOOROOKOO Morning Show, a breakfast TV show on the indigenous Cable TV Channel, wapTV, has expanded its presentations.

    Already, the programme, which is presented by Douglas, Veronica, Omonla and Mazi Ukpaka, reviews the daily newspapers, interviews guests, interacts with viewers via phone calls and social media, discusses a wide range of topics, presents a weather report and conducts a vox pop segment.

    However, producers of the show have now revealed a bouquet of new features. wapTV has also introduced additional entertaining skits and segments.

    According to the producers, the comedic skits and segments in wapTV’s Kookoorookoo Morning Show include Akpan and Oduma, People’s Court, Okafor, The Gate, Cartoon of the Day, Bingo, Joke of the Day, Omonla, Horoscope, Papa Ajasco & Company Skit, Humourous Quotes, Nnenna & Friends Skit, Magana Magana, Weather Forecast and LOL.

    The Wale Adenuga Productions-owned Cable TV Channel, wapTV, is rated as Nigeria’s first TV Channel, where pidgin is spoken 24 hours a day, thereby making it accessible to millions of viewers in Nigeria and several other African countries.

    wapTV wins TV Channel of the Year award

    WapTV, a newly licensed cable channel, has been awarded the ‘TV channel of the Year’. The feat, which got the members of staff and management of the company jubilating Sunday night, was the second award the company has got in the last one month.

    Owned by popular TV drama entrepreneur, Chief Wale Adenuga, the award was bestowed on the company by the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Award (NBMA) at a star-studded show at NECA House, Ikeja, Lagos.

    Only last month, the parent company, Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP), was awarded the ‘Top Business Partner’ by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) at the 2013 edition of the NTA Business Dinner/Award Night.

    According to the organizers, WAP was recognized for the huge patronage coming from programmes such as Superstory and ThisLife as well as wapTV cable channel.

    Receiving the new laurel, an elated Wole Adenuga, Managing Director of the station, said the award is the beginning of better things to come: “This award is dedicated to the entire wapTV team, all our content providers, esteemed advertisers and, of course, millions of viewers across Africa who tune in daily and interact with wapTV via phone calls and the social media. We assure you all that we are just getting started and the best is yet to come,” he said.

    He noted that since it began transmission on October 1, 2012, “wapTV has been enjoying massive viewership due to the channel’s strategic programming, which is made up of top-rated TV dramas, home videos, comedies, music, children’s programmes, lifestyle shows, ground-breaking skits, as well as a unique breakfast show, Kookoorookoo, which receives interactions from viewers all over Africa.”

    ONE year after it started showing, WapTV has announced that it is set for an official launch on Tuesday, September 24 at Banquet Hall, Sheraton, Lagos by 7pm. The family entertainment channel began transmission on October 1 last year, and since then the TV Channel has gained followership from diverse viewers because of the channel’s entertainment-filled programming.

    Managing Director of wapTV, Wale Adenuga, says: “It will be an unforgettable night of entertainment and enlightenment to let stakeholders know the journey so far, where we are right now and our next step. Indeed, after one year since we started redefining Nigerian Television Entertainment, we want you to know we are just getting started.”

    The Official Launch/First Anniversary is strictly by invitation and will air at a later date on wapTV, StarTimes across Nigeria and other African countries including Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Mozambique, Central Africa Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi and Guinea, Adenuga discloses.
