Recently, at the closing ceremony of the Gateway Games, K1 was honoured to be invited by the state government to perform before a large audience. His performance was a highlight of the event, as he captivated attendees with a selection of his hit songs, showcasing not only his vocal prowess but also his impressive stage presence and musical versatility. During the performance, in a moment of sheer enthusiasm, he shed his jacket, revealing a licensed pistol securely holstered on his waist.

While many concert-goers observed this with surprise, those familiar with the artist understood the necessity of his precautions. The presence of a firearm, while alarming to some, is not uncommon for high-profile artists like K1, who often face vulnerabilities due to their fame and the nature of their music, which resonates with diverse audiences, sometimes including those with less savoury intentions.

Obanikoro finally joins APC, says ‘I’m on a mission’

A former Minister of State for Defence, Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, on Saturday in Lagos finally dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obanikoro’s defection at his Lagos Island constituency ended months of speculations about the status of his political allegiance.

There were earlier reports that he had settled his differences with the national leader of APC, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a step to joining the ruling party.

Though Obanikoro acknowledged reconciliation with Tinubu, he had neither denied nor confirmed plans to join his political mentor in APC.

He, however, finally gave the hint of his defection during a television interview on Thursday.

Obanikoro defected to the APC along with other PDP bigwigs in the state, including a former aide of former president Good luck Jonathan, Mrs Modupe Sasore.

Others are a national officer of the PDP, Mr Jide Damazio, and another PDP chieftain, Chief Kola Balogun.

They were received by chieftains of APC, including the state chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale; Alhaji Kashim Imam, Chief James Odunbaku as well as the Attorney General of Lagos State, Mr Adeniji Kazeem who represented Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode.

Past and serving members of the National Assembly including Sen. Ganiyu Solomon, Sen. Gbenga Ashafa and Rep. Jide Jimoh were among APC bigwigs present.

Presenting the APC flag to Obanikoro and others, Ajomale said the coming of the former minister and others meant the opposition was totally dead in the state.

He described Obanikoro as politically experienced and sagacious, and said his joining the party would no doubt add to the electoral fortune of the party in the state.

“We are happy to receive Obanikoro back in our fold. He was with us when we started the Alliance for Democracy (AD) but he decided to go the other way.

“Thank God he has realised his mistake and he is back. We are indeed happy to get back this big fish, along with others.

“Obanikoro is an asset and he will no doubt add value to our party,” he said.

Obanikoro, in his speech, said he was happy to return to the fold of his age-long political associates after his long sojourn in the PDP.

He said he defected because he couldn’t find fulfillment in the PDP and he joined the ruling party because he had a mission to render service on its platform.

The ex-minister said his former party could not offer him the platform for the kind of service he wanted to render.

“Today, I and others are not just joining the APC for joining sake, we are joining because we are on a mission.

“I had joined the PDP a few years ago with the hope that certain things would be done right to enable me make the desired impact. That did not happen.

“And now, Asiwaju Tinubu has taken leadership to another level, not only in the state, but at the national level.

“So, my joining the APC is not by accident. It is to return to my people and seek a platform on which I can render service to my people, because leadership is about service and co-ordination of talents to achieve results.

“We have looked everywhere, and the only party that offers that platform for service delivery is the APC.

“For me, this is not really a defection; it is a home-coming, because in a way, this is my root. I am happy to return to my people; no place like home,” he said.

Obanikoro praised the leadership style of Tinubu, which he said had ensured the development of the state.

He thanked Tinubu for being magnanimous to accept him back in the fold after years of altercations between them.

“I thank Tinubu for his magnanimity. I am here because he is generous and has a forgiving heart. If it were other leaders, they will say ‘God forbid’.

“He has accepted me back despite all the issues between us, I am grateful to him,” Obanikoro said.

The former minister said he we would do his best to add value to his new party.

Also, Sasore and Balogun took turns to thank the party for allowing them into the fold.

They said they could not find fulfillment in PDP hence, the decision to join APC.

The duo promised to do their best to ensure APC progresses in the state.

Imam, in his remark, said the party was happy to receive Obanikoro and others.

He said the defection meant the party was the only party in the state, as it marked the end of PDP.

The National Vice-Chairman of the APC (South West), Chief Puis Akinyelure, who represented Tinubu, said the party was glad with the home-coming of Obanikoro and others

He said the defection meant the PDP was dead as Obanikoro was one of its pillars in the state.

It was a carnival-like ceremony as party faithful danced and sang to receive Obanikoro and the others.

A popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, was on hand to thrill those present.

    K1 breaks tour for Osolo’s 10th anniversary

There are strong indications that Fuji music star, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, aka K1 The Ultimate, will rush back to Nigeria today, halting a pre-scheduled itinerary binding him to the Diaspora until November, for his usual world music tour.

According to information, the short return of the musician is in honour of the Osolo of Isolo, Oba Kabiru Agbabiaka, who will be celebrating his 10th coronation anniversary. He is billed to perform at the event.

This is not the first time the artiste will be making such return, as not too long ago, he extended the same courtesy for Lanre Akanni Mohammed, aka Lamex, who celebrated his 50th birthday.

After Oba Adelaja’s show, the musician will be going to the UK, for the second leg of the road-show tour that will take him to four continents.

Already, the musician and his group have covered North America and the Caribbean, and will proceed to Malaysia, Australia and South Africa after the UK shows.

  • I’ve always been in the background, says K1’s new manager

I’ve always been in the background, says K1’s new manager

SEQUEL to the news of separation between popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, and his manager of 17 years, Percy Ademokun, there has been curiosity over the identity of Ademokun’s successor, Adebayo Olasoju, whom many thought emerged from the blues.

But Olasoju said he had had a long-standing relationship with the musician, but had merely been handling political connections for the artiste.

“Actually, I have always been in the background, I was handling the political aspect of his connections and dealings,” said Olasoju who smiled, while flaunting his pedigree in the political circle.

He said: “I was a Special Adviser (Legislative) in my local government council. I have also been a Personal Assistant to a House of Assembly member. I was also a campaign manager for a House of Assembly member.”

It is not clear why the musician decided to replace Ademokun, but sources say the decision was mutual, as both parties still relate closely on personal grounds.

On why Olasoju thinks he would fit well into the position, he said: “For you to manage someone of K1’s status, two things must come to play, which is trust and confidence.” He said he did not lobby for the position, but instead, he was somewhat ordered to take it. “He (K1) just called me and said, ‘Bayo, those things you have been doing in the background, you would have to do them in the open now,’ and when I said, I would need some time to think about it, he said: ‘there is nothing to think about,’ and that he would talk to my wife about it, and that was it.”

On the prospect of his new position, he said: “What I know is that for you to manage K1, people see it as a juicy career because of who he (K1) is. My boss is the only one in the whole world who would never owe you.”

Expelled PDP members defect to ruling party

FOUR expelled stalwarts of the Osun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former PDP members were received into the APC by Governor Rauf Aregbesola at a campaign rally organised by the APC in Ilesa.

But popular Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1) was attacked by thugs after the rally.

As at the time of going to the press, the state of health of the musician and his band boys could not be ascertained.

The four defectors were among the six expelled on Monday for anti- party activities.

They are the former PDP State Secretary Chief Yinka Adeojo, former Chairman, Osogbo Local Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, former Personal Assistant to former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola Mr. Razaq Oyelami and a former Assistant State Secretary Alhaji Razaq Oyetunji.

Aregbesola  urged the people to pray fervently for a smooth election, saying the poll will determine the destiny of  the state in the next 20 years.

He said the people should  not be intimidated by the proposed deployment of soldiers and police during the August 9 governorship election.

He described the seven and a half years of the PDP in Osun State and 15 years at the centre as a waste.

Aregbesola urged the people not to fear soldiers and the police, saying they are constitutionally charged to protect the people.

He said: “All security agents, according to the constitution of Nigeria have the responsibility to protect the people. Therefore, police or soldiers cannot point his gun to any Nigerian who has committed no crime.

Also, Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun said the APC government had brought back the glorious era of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, to the Southwest.

Amosun described as ridiculous the opposition’s reduction of governance to “stomach infrastructure,” warning the people not to be deceived “by cash and carry politics.”

Speaking on behalf of the defectors after receiving the APC flag, Oyelami described PDP as a party that has nothing to offer the people.

He described the three and half years of Aregbesola in office as progressive, enterprising and growth-oriented, advising the people not to vote wrongly to a party of “buccaneers”.
