    Zamfara Gov inspects seized arms cache, lauds DSS

    Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal on Tuesday night commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for sharing intelligence with the Nigerian Armed Forces which led to the seizure of a large cache of arms and ammunitions couriered from Niger Republic.

    The Governor’s commendation came after he inspected the seized cache of arms and ammunitions

     Lawal thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for greatly supporting the DSS and military to make Zamfara State and all of Nigeria safer. He assured that his government would continue to support the security agencies in Zamfara State to tackle terrorists and criminals.

    He applauded DSS officers and expressed confidence in the ability of the Service to guarantee the internal security of Nigeria.

    The  Department of State Services (DSS) seized the large cache of arms and ammunitions, which were suspected to be couriered from Niger Republic.

    The arms were traced to a notorious arms courier, Abubakar Umar aka Dangada, from Niger Republic.

    The arms were intercepted along Kaura Namoda-Zurmi road.

    It was gathered that the arms were to be delivered to some banditry kingpins, particularly Kachallah Atta, Alhaji Shinge, Alhaji Nashama and a certain Zaki. 

    It was a joint intelligence sharing between the DSS and Operation Fansan Yamma.

    Governor Dauda Lawal, who commended the breakthrough, inspected the arms and commended the DSS.

    One of the sources said: “The DSS operatives had in a joint  operation with troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, on Monday and Tuesday, successfully trailed a notorious arms courier, Abubakar Umar aka Dangada, from Niger Republic up to the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi Road. “DSS intelligence revealed that, Umar was billed to convey the munitions from Niger Republic to Birnin Magaji LGA for onward delivery to some banditry kingpins, particularly Kachallah Atta, Alhaji Shinge, Alhaji Nashama and a certain Zaki.

    “The arms were inside a red Abuja- registered Volkswagen Golf station wagon car (RBC 731 GU), which the arms couriers abandoned after fleeing with serious bullet wounds, were seven AK-47 rifles, two PKT GPMG and two AK-103 rifles.

    “Also recovered were 169 rounds of 7.62x39mm calibre of ammunition, 9 PKT rounds of ammunition, with one chain; and 13 empty magazines.”

    The Department of State Services (DSS) has intercepted a notorious arms smuggler, Abubakar Umar, also known as Dangada, and seized a large cache of weapons he was transporting from Niger Republic in Zamfara State

    The operation, carried out in collaboration with troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, took place between Monday and Tuesday along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi Road it was gathered on Wednesday.

    Acting on intelligence provided by the DSS, security operatives closely monitored Umar’s movements as he made his way from Niger Republic, where he had collected the weapons. 

    Sources revealed that Umar was tasked with delivering the munitions to Birnin Magaji Local Government Area (LGA) for distribution to key bandit leaders, including Kachallah Atta, Alhaji Shinge, Alhaji Nashama, and a certain Zaki.

    In a well-coordinated ambush, DSS operatives and military troops intercepted Umar along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi Road.

    On realizsing he had been trailed, the arms courier attempted to escape but was met with gunfire. 

    He sustained serious bullet wounds and abandoned his vehicle—a red Abuja-registered Volkswagen Golf station wagon (RBC 731 GU)—before fleeing into the bushes.

    Upon searching the abandoned vehicle, security operatives recovered a significant cache of weapons, including seven AK-47 rifles, two PKT General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), and two AK-103 rifles. 

    Also seized were 169 rounds of 7.62x39mm caliber ammunition, nine PKT rounds with an ammunition belt, and 13 empty magazines.

    Commending the successful operation, Zamfara Governor, Dauda Lawal, on Tuesday night inspected the seized arms in Gusau, the state capital, and praised the DSS for its intelligence-sharing efforts with the Nigerian Armed Forces.

    He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support in tackling insecurity and assured that his administration would remain committed to aiding security agencies in the fight against terrorism and crime.

    Governor Lawal further lauded the DSS for its dedication and reaffirmed his confidence in the service’s ability to safeguard Nigeria’s internal security.
