BRAWL AT THE BRIDGE!  West Ham star is sent off for grabbing Pedro by the THROAT in stoppage time

There were extraordinary scenes at the end of Chelsea’s thrilling comeback win over West Ham, with Adama Traore on the rampage, handbags galore and a red card for a throat-grab.

Chelsea had just knocked the stuffing out of the Hammers by completing a stoppage time comeback from 2-0 down to lead 3-2.

And then chaos was ignited when Traore lost his cool and threw Cucurella to the ground by the scruff of his neck like a ragdoll.

That sent the home fans into a furious frenzy and their team followed suit, piling in. Pedro tried to confront Traore who bull-rushed him and the Brazilian quickly retreated.

Jean-Clair Todibo then came steaming forwards, grabbing Pedro by the throat and pulling their faces close together before his grip was wrestled loose.

At the same time, there was a melee involving seven players shoving each other in close proximity.

When the camera panned back to a furious looking Todibo, Gary Neville on commentary said: ‘The eyes have gone. You’d better stay away from him in the tunnel as well if you’ve got a blue shirt on. He’s not calmed down yet. His head has gone.’

There was also a smaller incident involving Cole Palmer and Konstantinos Mavropanos, who gave the Chelsea star a faint slap but avoided being sent off, unlike Todibo, who was given his marching orders by Anthony Taylor following a VAR check.

When Neville watched the replay again he said: ‘At one point he’s got hold of his neck and looks like he’s trying to eat him!’

Pedro received yellow cards for his part in the incident but it will matter little to him.

He scored the first goal in the comeback and later laid on the assist for Enzo Fernandez to snatch the three points.

After play finally resumed, Chelsea had to defend a corner from the nine men and did so successfully before Taylor had seen enough and blew the final whistle.

Replays would suggest a number of players were lucky to escape without further sanction from the fracas before full-time.

Traore in particular, only picked up a yellow card for his WWE-style wrestling move on Cucurella, who was flung to the turf having wound up the Spaniard with some gamesmanship.

EPL: Chelsea fight back from two goals down to beat West Ham 3-2

Champions League‑chasing Chelsea fought back from two goals down to win in stoppage time against West Ham in a dramatic London derby at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Fernandez’s 92nd-minute winner sparked wild scenes at Stamford Bridge to snatch victory having been 2-0 down through goals from Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville.

New manager Liam Rosenior’s substitutes had hauled Chelsea back into the game as half-time introductions Joao Pedro and Marc Cucurella both scored to level the match.

It was a blow for West Ham who dominated the first half. Bowen’s in‑swinging cross beat Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who was unable to claim the ball as Pablo threatened to get a touch on its way through to open the scoring.

That seventh‑minute strike came either side of two shots on target from new striker Taty Castellanos, while Summerville curled home a second goal from inside the box after a move down the right involving Bowen and Aaron Wan‑Bissaka.

Cole Palmer’s 30-yard free-kick was Chelsea’s only shot on target in a dismal first half.

The hosts were booed off at half-time and Rosenior made three changes. He removed the struggling left‑side trio of Jorrel Hato, Benoit Badiashile and Alejandro Garnacho – at fault for both first-half goals – bringing on Joao Pedro, Cucurella and Wesley Fofana.

After West Ham efforts from Matheus Fernandes and Bowen were saved early in the second half, Chelsea began to dominate.

Pressure built as Liam Delap went close and a long‑range Moises Caicedo long-range strike was pushed away, before Fofana’s deep cross was headed in by Joao Pedro to pull a goal back in the 57th minute.

Thirteen minutes later, Cucurella – one of Rosenior’s changes – produced a diving header to equalise after Malo Gusto’s header across goal caused a goalmouth scramble.

With the crowd now behind them Chelsea pushed for a third, and while West Ham’s Jean-Clair Todibo hit the post in the 86th minute, Fernandez pounced to finish Joao Pedro’s cross from close range for the winner.

Konstantinos Mavropanos was sent off for his part in a melee at the end of the match after a lengthy video assistant referee (VAR) check, as emotional scenes boiled over.

The result lifts Chelsea above Manchester United into fourth place in the Premier League, while West Ham remain five points below Nottingham Forest. United and Forest play tomorrow and both have a game in hand.

EPL: Wolves get first win of season after beating West Ham

Wolves finally secured a first Premier League win of the season at the 20th attempt as they made light work of fellow strugglers West Ham at Molineux.

This was Rob Edwards’ first win as Wolves head coach and the team’s first league victory since beating Leicester City on April 26, 2025.

At a stroke, the league’s bottom side doubled their points tally for the season to six, thanks to first-half goals from Jhon Arias, Hwang Hee-chan and Mateus Mane.

A sorry West Ham side failed to muster a response after the break and remain 18th with 14 points – four fewer than Nottingham Forest above them.

With two of the league’s worst defences in action, goals were always likely and it only took the hosts four minutes to make a breakthrough.

Hwang darted into the box and glided past Konstantinos Mavropanos before cutting back for an unmarked Arias to tap home from six yards – the Colombian’s first goal in a Wolves shirt.

The early breakthrough injected belief into the home side, who were awarded a penalty when Mane was clattered by the high boot of Soungoutou Magassa.

Hwang sent the spot-kick straight down the middle to make it 2-0 in the 31st minute before Mane added a third 10 minutes later.

With no Hammers defender closing him down, the 18-year-old Mane sent a powerful low drive from outside the box that beat Alphonse Areola at the near post, giving the youngster a first goal of his senior career.

The second half was more evenly contested but the early damage was beyond repair for West Ham, whose winless run has now reached nine matches.

EPL: Palace beat West Ham as pressure mounts on Potter

Crystal Palace beat West Ham to pile the pressure on Hammers boss Graham Potter amid fan protests before and during the match at London Stadium.

Jean-Philippe Mateta pounced to nod in the rebound after goalkeeper Alphonse Areola had pushed Marc Guehi’s header on to the crossbar as the visitors took a 37th-minute lead.

Jarrod Bowen equalised early in the second half when he pulled away from his marker to head into the net following El Hadji Malick Diouf’s corner.

The home fans responded as their side enjoyed a bright spell, but Lucas Paqueta had an effort cleared off the line by Chris Richards, with Kyle Walker-Peters also unable to convert two opportunities.

West Ham’s failure to grab a second goal proved costly as Tyrick Mitchell was afforded too much space in the penalty area and controlled a superb volley into the net for what proved to be the winner.

Earlier on Saturday, about 3,000 Hammers fans protested before the match, with angry supporters holding flags and banners and chanting about chairman David Sullivan and vice-chair Karren Brady.

The unhappiness continued during the game as there were more “sack the board” chants from the home supporters when the match was goalless, with the hosts booed off at half-time when they were trailing and again at the final whistle.

West Ham’s miserable day continued as Palace fans chanted “you’re getting sacked in the morning” at Potter, with some of the home supporters joining in.

Potter has now only won six of his 23 league games and picked up 23 points since replacing Julen Lopetegui in January. The Spaniard also collected 23 points from his spell at the London Stadium, but did so in three fewer games.

West Ham agree fee of more than £40m for Fernandes

West Ham have agreed a deal in excess of £40m to sign Southampton midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

The 21-year-old has been granted permission to travel for a medical in London.

Fernandes would become West Ham’s third-biggest signing, behind Sebastien Haller (£45m) and Lucas Paqueta (£51m).

The move will be a boost for under-pressure Hammers manager Graham Potter, whose side have lost their first three matches of the season in all competitions.

EPL: Sunderland beat West Ham on Premier League return

Sunderland made a winning start to their first Premier League campaign since 2016-17 as they deservedly beat West Ham at a raucous Stadium of Light.

Eliezer Mayenda, who scored in the Championship play-off final in May, nodded substitute Omar Alderete’s delivery into the corner shortly after the hour mark to spark wild scenes of jubilation among the home supporters.

It was another play-off hero who doubled Sunderland’s lead as Dan Ballard – who rescued Regis le Bris’ team in the semi-final first leg against Coventry – guided his header into the corner.

And Wilson Isidor put the icing on the cake in added time, beating Hermansen with a well-placed shot into the far corner.

The two teams were welcomed by a cauldron of noise before Sunderland’s first top-flight game in eight years, and fans had plenty to shout about after kick-off as both teams went close in a lively opening.

Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs did well to save West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen’s shot from a tight angle, while Mads Hermansen deflected a fierce Habib Diarra drive over the crossbar at the other end not long afterwards.

The Hammers sought to turn the screw as the first half progressed and were denied an opener when Ballard produced a magnificent sliding clearance from El Hadji Malick Diouf’s goal-bound shot.

The early stages of the second half were more subdued, but with the Hammers struggling to pose a threat in the final third, the hosts began to grow in confidence and the lively Diarra sent a powerful shot over the bar from just outside the area.

It was a warning West Ham failed to heed, as Mayenda steered a well-placed header past Hammers debutant Hermansen to open the scoring, before Ballard and Isidor added gloss to the scoreline on a memorable afternoon for Le Bris and his players.

West Ham deal Arsenal huge blow in title race

Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge suffered a huge blow as West Ham inflicted Mikel Arteta’s side their first home defeat of the season with a shock 1-0 victory at the Emirates.

Jarrod Bowen’s dividing header on the stroke of half-time secured West Ham a second consecutive away victory over the Gunners, with Arsenal struggling to create any meaningful chances in the absence of injured forwards Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Makeshift striker Mikel Merino was unable to repeat the impact of his decisive double at Leicester last weekend, with Bowen instead pouncing on the counter-attack to head in Aaaron Wan-Bissaka’s cross in front of a stunned Emirates crowd.

Arsenal were blunt ahead the break and they faced an uphill task to avoid defeat when Myles Lewis-Skelly was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity. The left back dragged Mohammed Kudus down on the halfway line as the forward was through on goal.

It means Arsenal miss the opportunity to cut Liverpool’s lead in the title race, and the Reds remain eight points clear ahead of their trip to Manchester City tomorrow. Arsenal visit Nottingham Forest in midweek, with Liverpool hosting Newcastle.

West Ham have sacked manager Julen Lopetegui after just six months in charge.

Former Wolves boss Lopetegui, 58, was appointed in May following the departure of David Moyes but officially took charge on 1 July.

The Hammers won just six Premier League games during the Spaniard’s tenure.

Saturday’s 4-1 defeat by Manchester City was a ninth loss in 20 league games this season and left the club 14th – seven points above the relegation zone.

West Ham say striker Michail Antonio is in a stable condition and “conscious and communicating” after a road traffic accident.

In a statement, West Ham said Antonio is “currently under close supervision at a central London hospital”.

The Premier League club added: “At this difficult time, we kindly ask everyone to respect the privacy of Michail and his family.

“The club will make no further comment this evening, but will issue a further update in due course.”

Antonio’s road accident happened on Saturday afternoon in the Essex area.

In an earlier statement, West Ham said their “thoughts and prayers” were “with Michail, his family and friends”.

Antonio, 34, joined West Ham from Nottingham Forest in 2015 and has since scored 68 goals in 268 league appearances for the club.

  • EPL: VAR misread West Ham penalty against Man Utd – Webb

EPL: VAR misread West Ham penalty against Man Utd – Webb

Referees’ chief Howard Webb says West Ham should not have been awarded a penalty during Erik ten Hag’s final game in charge of Manchester United on 27 October.

The Hammers were given the decision on the recommendation of video assistant referee Michael Oliver following Matthijs de Ligt’s challenge on Danny Ings.

David Coote, the on-field referee, had waved play on following the incident but awarded a penalty after reviewing the incident on the pitch-side monitor.

Jarrod Bowen scored the penalty, sealing a 2-1 win for West Ham. Ten Hag was sacked less than 24 hours later.

“I thought it was a misread by the VAR,” Webb told Sky Sports’ Mic’d Up programme.

“A VAR that’s normally really talented and reliable, but gets uber-focused in this situation on De Ligt’s leg. His leg coming through on to Danny Ings, not making any contact with the ball. The ball’s already past De Ligt as he as he makes contact with Danny Ings.

“And the VAR sees that as a clear foul. I think he was too focused on that aspect. I don’t think he should have got involved.

“I think this is a situation where we’d leave the on-field decision as it is, probably whichever way it’s called. On balance, I don’t think it’s a penalty kick.”

On-field referees are not required to follow the recommendations of the VAR official.

“They are told that they are absolutely within their rights to keep their decision when they go to the screen,” said Webb.

Webb, who is chief of refereeing body PGMOL, was speaking publicly for the first time since Coote was suspended with immediate effect after he appeared to make derogatory comments about Liverpool and their former manager Jurgen Klopp in a video that circulated online.

“We became aware of a video that was being circulated on social media that we are taking very seriously,” said Webb.

“We’ve instigated a full investigation. One of our referees, David Coote, has been suspended with immediate effect pending the outcome of that investigation.

“There’s not much more I can say at this stage until we’ve worked through that investigation.”
