  • ‘Kwara ACN will win 2015 elections’

Stalwarts, loyalists and supporters of the Kwara State Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) at the weekend converged on Ajase-Ipo, Irepodun Local Government Area, with a resolve to oust the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in this year’s local government election and the 2015 general elections.

The party said its historical antecedents of “playing politics of programme, principle and commitment would work in its favour at the hustling.

The ACN stalwarts said: “We are members of the ACN on our way to a new party, called the All Progressives Congress (APC). We are also all from the Kwara South Senatorial District. We are currently not in power in the state but our aspiration is to win first in the 2013 local government election and finally root out the PDP from power in the 2015 general elections.”

Speakers after speakers at the event extolled the never-say-die spirit of progressive-minded politicians from the Kwara South Senatorial District.

In speech entitled: Enough is Enough, ACN Chairman in Kwara South Senatorial District, Alhaji Hassan Salami said: “We are in the tradition of our dead heroes like Chiefs J. S. Olawoyin, G. D. Ekunrin, Pa Ogunbiyi, J. T. Obayo, P. B. Olatunde who, with unparalleled devotion to the interest of our people, terminated the then loathsome emirate system evidenced by physical possession of our land.

“Today, we stand at the threshold of history to salute these heroes who still remain a source of inspiration to us in our bitter struggle to create essence for our people in a state still dominated by oppression and deprivation. We salute our past heroes in the politics of commitment, principle, programmes and total identification with the interests of our people.

“Since 2003, when the PDP has been in control of government, other brands of politicians have emerged in Kwara South Senatorial District. They represent the phases of oppression as they are lackeys and agents of oppressors. They erase the gains of the past and bring shame to the people of the district. Lacking in merit and totally disconnected from the people, they make themselves ready tools in the hands of those that are always happy to bring backwardness to our land.

“From 2003 till date, they have occupied undeserved political offices. The main feature of their leadership is being in office without being in power. They are not the authentic representatives of our people; their loyalty is to their leader, living or dead. They are equally disconnected from the people and, above all, they keep abiding faith with their stomachs.

“When political events of the last one decade will be written the part played by the estranged sons and daughters of the district will be well documented.”

Maigari: Eagles will win in Kenya

NFF president Maigari Nigeria FA boss Aminu Maigari has predicted the Super Eagles will get their 2014 World Cup quest back on track with a win in Kenya in June.

African champions Nigeria had to force the Harambee Stars of Kenya to a 1-1 draw at home last month to leave their qualifying campaign for Brazil 2014 on a shaky note.

They still lead Group F on five points from three matches, but are now hard pressed by Malawi, who also have five points. However, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Maigari exclusively told MTNFootball.com he was confident the Eagles will fly high in Nairobi on June 5 on their way to qualifying for next year’s World Cup.

“Yes, we were all disappointed we did not beat Kenya at home last month, but that’s part of the game. The players too were disappointed. Now we have to go and play better in Kenya and win,” Maigari said.

Incidentally, Nigeria had to beat Kenya 3-2 in Nairobi in November 2009 to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Nigeria have two away games, while closest rivals Malawi have two home games with a final clash between the two teams in September in Nigeria. But Maigari insisted there is no cause for alarm as the Eagles will advance from this stage on the way to featuring at Brazil 2014.

“I’m not bothered about whether a team is playing at home or away. The most important thing is to ensure that you are at your best always, whether at home or away. Nothing stops us from winning away from home. We will go to Kenya and win. God willing, we will be in Brazil for the World Cup,” he argued.

  • ACN will win in Imo in 2015, says Udenwa

A former Imo State Governor and chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Chief Achike Udenwa, has said the party would defeat the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2015 election.

He said the ACN would enthrone good governance and save Imo State from looming anarchy and endemic maladministration.

Udenwa spoke during ACN women’s conference in Owerri, the state capital.

The former governor said the party would deploy its resources in 2015 to take over power and redeeem the state from its current anomie.

He said: “ACN was instrumental to unseating the previous administration in the state. We will re-enact what we are known for in 2015, that is, good governance and empowerment of the people, especially the women.”

Udenwa urged the women to begin aggressive mobilisation to prepare the party for victory.

He noted that women and children are the most affected during misrule.

A former lawmaker and chairman of the occasion, Uche Onyeagocha, hailed the women for the initiative.

He said women have a strategic role to play in returning Imo State to the path of good governance and prosperity.

Onyeagocha said: “Imo State is gradually becoming a state where anything goes. But our party is interested in good governance. That is why we are here to brainstorm on how to takeover power in Imo to correct the ills of the present administration.”

The National Women’s Leader, Hafisat Baba Mohammed, called for stronger cooperation among the women.

She noted that they can decide the political fate of the state and country in 2015.

The state Women’s Leader, Mrs. Carol Amadi, said the conference was convened to awaken the women and prepare them for their strategic roles in the party and state.

She added that ACN is alive in Imo State.
